Saving Template doesn't update pages

I just made changes to my template, saved it, and the connected pages are not updating. The FAQ say's to select the 'Update' button, which I can't seem to find.
Any suggestions?

File extension is .dwt
Not exactly sure of your 2nd question. I only have one web site I work with. I’m quite the novice. But I think the answer to your question is yes.
The .dwt file is located within my Templates folder of the site
Thanks,
Stacy

  • Dreamweaver CS6-updating template doesn't update pages, update screen hangs

I'm working with a dwt file provided with shopping cart software which I purchased from a third party developer. I've made changes on the main.dwt provided to personalize it for my business. To begin with, everything seemed to be going smoothly, but then at some point, updating the template stopped updating the pages dependent on it, unless the pages are actually open in Dreamweaver. Even when the pages are open, however, the "Update files dependent on" box seems to hang. If I click "close" it asks if I want to stop updating the site. It's very cumbersome to have to open every page in the site in order to get the changes in the template to propagate to the pages. I'm running CS6 on Windows 7 Home Premium. My site is not yet published, so I can't provide a link to it. It's still on the drawing board.

Is the .dwt template file still within the Dreamweaver generated Templates folder in your site root?
    index.html <--your site's home page
Templates <-- the Templates folder on same level as site home page
         yourtemplate.dwt <-- your .dwt file
If it's not, that can cause all kinds of problems in DW.

  • Template doesn't update properly

Last July, we converted our website from GoLive to
Dreamweaver. Now, for the first time since our conversion, I had to
make some changes on the template and there's a problem on the
    updated pages.
The problem is that the navigation is not working properly on
many (not all) pages updated with the template. The nav works fine
on the template itself. The template ("template.dwt") is in the
    Templates folder.
The specific nav problem is that on rollover, the white
subheadings do not show. Only an image icon shows. This problem
occurs with the files located in a folder WITHIN a folder.
    For example:
    VSSC/contact.html: nav works fine
    VSSC/News/books.html: doesn't work (white subheadings don't
    show)
I see the code pointing to the image is the same for both of
these pages even though one is a folder within a folder:
    VSSC/contact.html:
    '../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
    VSSC/News/books.html:
    '../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
The code before I updated with the template was:
    VSSC/contact.html:
    '../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
    VSSC/News/books.html:
    '../../images/navigation/espanol_topics/libroso.gif'
Is this making any sense? Is there a quick fix to this? In
other words, a preference setting to check before updating the
    Template?
    Thanks for your help,
    Nancy

  • Placeholder text won't disappear + template doesn't update

    Hi,
I'm using the latest iBook author version (2.2) on Yosemite.
I selected a text as a placeholder, but when I type my new text, it doesn't disappear. I've already created many sections using this template and I don't want to recreate them all over...
Also, it seems like the modifications I have made in my template, even though I save them, don't apply, like the template is not updated. I tried to right-click on the template to select "reapply to layout section" but I don't have access to it.
    Thanks a lot!

Have you tried to give it a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys for about 20 seconds. When you see the silver apple, let go and let it reboot and see if the badge is still there.

  • Template doesn't update

I tried getting an answer to this question a while ago, but I
guess my question got lost in the shuffle. So here it is again:
Last July, we converted our website from GoLive to
Dreamweaver. Now, for the first time since our conversion, I had to
make some changes on the template and there's a problem on the
    updated pages.

The specific nav problem is that on rollover, the white
subheadings do not show. Only an image icon shows. This problem
occurs with the files located in a folder WITHIN a folder.
For example: here's a page updated from the template:
    http://www.vedanta.org/vssc/news/fire1.html.
This page is in a folder WITHIN a folder and as you can see, there
is a problem with the main navigation at the top. On rollover of
the subtopics, the orange buttons should appear white, and they
    don't.
    The template nav works fine:

That would be it, Nate. DW cannot manage links embedded in

  • Template doesn't update nav buttons

Hi, Having a problem getting my template to update the spry menubar links. Spent a lot of time on the template to get it right. The banner and navigation buttons are part of the template. So here's what I did....after creating and saving the page as a .dwt file I then created a page from template, the update links box was checked. Once opened I save it as index.html added my content, saved, published and continued the same way for the other pages. The pages look fine but none of the nav buttons work.  Don't know what to do.  Any suggestions. Using Dreamweaver CS4

  • Template does not update pages

When I change a menu item in a template (located in the Template folder), and attempt to save it, DW asks if I want to update all pages created w/this template.  When I hit OK, all seems well.  The log shows all pages have been updated.  When I preview, the browser displays a message that xxx.html cannot be found in the Templates folder.
When I restored the entire site from a Time Machine backup, the problem persisted.
Any help would be most appreciated.

Not a templates user, but I am asking why your page is looking for a file with an HTM extension in the Templates folder. As I understand it, only template file(s) with the dwt extension should reside in the Templates folder.
Can we see your code to determine what is calling for that HTM file?

  • Updated Template does not update pages

When I update and save a template it does not ask if I want to update the pages that use that template. I recently down loaded and reinstalled all my Adobe applications. Is there a parameter that has to be tuirned on to fore pages to be updated when the templete is changed?
    I am using CS 6.

    Have a look here http://forums.adobe.com/thread/953304

  • Template is not updating the rest of the pages

This is odd. I have a template, from which I created all child pages in this website and now want to change the navigation to add a new drop-down menu structure under "cases."
    Here's the website: http://ghostsofnewengland.org/
    Here's the template: http://ghostsofnewengland.org/Templates/goners.dwt
From the template, you'll see that I have changed some commented-out sections in the code. Then I saved the .dwt file, it did not ask and did not update the rest of the pages in the website.
Normally, I work with templates as a fast way to handle just about any change to navigation and other commonly-available sections on a website. This is the first time I've seen Dreamweaver simply fail to update pages (or even ask) after a template change.
Anyone have a quick way to get Dreamweaver to wake up here?
    -Mark Hollis

My advice is to exit DW, reboot, open only your template and make a minor change (add a comment someplace) save and update child pages. If that doesn't work, then give Adobe a call because something isn't right.

  • Any way to turn off errors when updating pages from the template?

I'm using Dreamweaver MX. My site is huge. It's an intranet
spanning dozens of departments. Some of those departments have
subsites that don't fall under the intranet's control, although
they are embedded within our site's folder structure. When I make a
change to the template and update pages, every time I hit one of
those subsites I get tons of errors, from "template not found" to
"unmatched body tag". The errors that pop up each have to be
clicked on before the updating can continue. I get hundreds of
    these.
Is there any way to make errors not pop up while updating
pages from the template? Or even to exclude certain folders from
being checked? (Cloaking doesn't do it.)

    > I'm using Dreamweaver MX. My site is huge.
Both of these are problems, I'm afraid. Combining that with
    templates is
    really trouble.
    > "unmatched body tag".
Errors such as this are definitely caused by errors in your
    page itself.
Can you show me a page where you would get this?
    > Is there any way to make errors not pop up while
    updating pages from the

Valid code will not produce these errors. Unfortunately, the
    only way to
avoid them is to remove any validation hiccups from your
    pages.

  • Template not updating pages upon save

I'm having an issue with DW CC where I make changes to a template and save it but it doesn't update any pages. What is even stranger is if I open the pages and I save the template it will update the opened pages but not any closed ones. Anybody else run into this problem?

I filled out the form that somebody linked to aboe and I actually got a response from Adobe recognizing this as a BUG. Now if they would just fix it. Response from Adobe is below.
    Hi Patrick,
Thanks for writing to us with your concern.
We would like to let you know that we are working on this so that Dreamweaver CC users can “Open” and/or “Save” ASP/CFM files.
We have already logged an internal bug # 3609524 for the same. We solicit your patience in this regard.
Please check this help document for opening Cold Fusion documents in Dreamweaver CC: http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/open-coldfusion-dreamweaver-cc.html

  • Template not updating pages in MAC CS4

I have Dreamweaver CS4 on a iMAC (latest computer) w/ Lion (recently upgraded).  I had been using Dreamweaver 8 on a PC but moved everything a few months ago.
I updated the template.  When I saved it, Dreamweaver was supposed to ask to update all related pages, but it didn't ask that.  When I open a page and apply the template, the change shows up.  But I have too many pages to do that.  I tried going to Modify> Template> Update pages.  I turned the LOG on and it said the pages were updated.  I did a Review at the top level and the pages showed up and I moved them to the server.  I don't know why the changes aren't showing up on the server.  I refreshed the page on the server and the change still didn't show up.
    Trudy

The next thing to try would be this -
    1. In DW's Site manager, export the site definition (make sure you note where you export it so you can find it again - also make sure you export the FULL site definition).
    2.  With the site still selected in Site manager, REMOVE it.
    3.  Now IMPORT the site definition you just exported.
That can also fix this troublesome problem.

  • Lost prompt to update pages that use template..

Yes I know I should not use templates but I do on very small sites with under 10 pages. When making adjustments to the templates I used to get a prompt asking me if I want to update pages that use that template, but I no longer get that. I must have changed something but I am wondering how I can change it back. I can manually update but I always forget and I do not wantto go that route....anyone know how I can get that prompt back to update pages that use template? Thanks much!

Well you have suggested SSI's before instead Murray....
No, I've suggested SSI's instead of Library items, or a combination of SSI's and a template instead of nested templates, but I've never suggested using SSI's instead of templates, although it is a workable solution.
I dont think it matters what I have in the code. It used to prompt me whenever I changed ANYTHING and had to save.
I do.  However, try this simple test -
    1.  Create a new, blank HTML file.
    2.  Save it with FILE | Save as Template... (verify that the page is saved in the "Templates" folder)
    3.  Spawn a new child page from this template with FILE | New > Page from Template.
    4.  Save this page with any name you prefer.
    5.  Return to the template page and change the title from Untitled document to "Whatever".  Save it.  Are you prompted?  You should be.
If you are not prompted then there is something systemically wrong with your DW installation.

  • Template will not update in pages

I've changed the template and saved. The other pages will not
    update to show
this change. I try to manually do it through
    >File>Templates>update current
page. It displays a message saying ".....contains an invalid
    path." Then
another window that says "Error accessing file .......bad
    file path (error
    code 3).
I just downloaded this whole website from where it was
    hosted, made some
changes and then I am going to upload changes. The only thing
    I can't get to
work is updating pages from the template. Any help would
    greatly be
    appreciated.

    > The "template.dwt" is in the Templates folder as it

Is the Templates folder in the root level of the site?
Nothing in that template looks out of place or improper.

  • Error when updating pages from template

When updating pages from a template I have been occasionally
    getting this error message:
While executing onLoad in Swap Image.htm, the following
    JavaScript error(s) occured:
At line 325 of the file "Hard Drive: Applications: Macromedia

    I am on a Mac running 10.3.9, Dreamweaver 8.02.2809
Any ideas on how to fix this?
    Thanks,
