Saving text in PDF on iPad

Hi, I am opening a PDF document on my iPad using the Adobe Reader app which is allowing me to fill in text, add notes, draw signatures etc, however when I email the document to myself (so I can save on my pc) it does not transfer across the text however it DOES transfer signatures, notes, underlining, highlighting etc. How can I get the text I type to save in the PDF when emailing? I have tried opening in Adobe Reader on the other end however text is still not appearing. Can someone please give me instructions on how to get this form to work - it is useless for me unless I can email and save to pc with text filled in. Regards, Amanda

I'm having a similar problem. I created a form from a PDF that we wanted our clients to fill out, sign, and then send back to us. We are able to open the PDF in Adobe Reader on iPad, fill out the information, and save it. When we choose to email the file, all of the information disappears and we are left with the original document. Strangely enough, I can still go back to the Adobe Reader for iPad and see the information there.
I have saved the file from Acrobat XI in the following manner:
>File >Save As Other... >Reader Extended PDF >Enable More Tools.
None of my form fields are locked, the security settings all allow for form field editing...not sure what else to do.
I just spent time on Adobe chat, and they were quick to end the conversation as soon as I told them I was asking about Adobe Reader app for iOS and had followed all of their instructions on setting up the PDF correctly (which I had been doing all along). I was told that not all the features work on Adobe Reader for iPad. Then why are the features available in the app?!? I'm hoping the forums are more helpful...

How to put text in pdf on ipad?

The only text you can attach to a PDF in the current Adobe Reader is a "note" comment. If you tap the comments button (the cartoon cloud with pencil) and choose the "note" comment (the cartoon cloud) you can add a note.

  • Can only download preview of some pdfs on iPad / iPhone

    Hello,
I have a strange problem with some pdf download links on my iPad and iPhone
and hope that somebody here has gone through that before and give me a hint.
    Problem description:
I have a problem when I try to dowload a pdf. If the pdf is linked with a normal
http-link, I have no problem opening it, it is shown in an extra tab in safari and
I can save it in iBooks. So far so good.
But: If the dowload is initiated with a command-button, then I only see a 1-page
preview of the pdf as an image. The image shows the first page of the pdf correctly
but I can find no way to download or save the complete pdf. If I save the preview
as an image, I see no content in this image afterwards, just a small text saying
    "pdf".
What I can do, is download this pdf with Safari on OS X 10.10 and on Windows
with any Internet Browser. Android is also no problem.
So I did a lot of research and testing:
    - I googled a lot and followed all related instrunctions I could find: no success.
    - I saved the pdf on my Mac, mailed it to myself and opened it on the iPhone or iPad.
No problem to view the pdf, it just wouldn't download.
    - So I enabled and disabled restrictions on all devices, with no success. I also added
the website to the trusted websites when enabling restrictions, no success.
    - I fiddled around with all safari-options, enabled and disabled cookies, switched
between "open in background"/"open in new tab" and tested all other options,
even those who shouldn't have any influence on this problem. No success.
    - Next I installed other apps capable of viewing PDFs since I thought them registering
as PDF-viewers could change this behavior. Again no success. (I tested Acrobat
    Reader and Amazon Kindle)
    - After that I installed Google Chrome: Only a slight change happend, now I saw
one and a half pages (instead of one) of the pdf as a preview.
    - Next I updated my iPhone 5 from iOS7 to iOS8.1.: No success.
    - I was so desperate after that, that I even resetted my iPhone to factory-defaults,
completly erasing all content and settings. Again no success.
    - After that I was running out of ideas.
    Technical background:
    - The pdf I'm trying to download contains confidental content so I unfortunately
cannot provide a link to it. But I know it's a dynamically created pdf, hence the
command-button instead of a normal link.
    - The pdf contains no forms and other fancy stuff, just plain (ok, formatted) text
    and some small icons.
    - I can easily download and view other (static) pdfs from the same website.
    - I have this problem on my iPhone 5 with iOS7 (latest version and iOS8.1 and
on my iPad2 with iOS7 (latest version).
    - It works well on my MacBook with OS X 10.10. and on Windows and Android.
    - I can view the pdf on iOS if I send it via Mail and open it locally, I just can't download it.
    - I think while searching for a solution I found a document saying something about
possible problems on iOS when providing download-links within html frames.
Unfortunately I could't find this document again but I checked and the download-
button indeed is embedded in a html frame (for what it's worth).
Any hints would be greatly appreciated!
    Thanks in advance,
    Wolfram

It looks as if your server does not support 'byte-range requests'. This facility is necessary for iOS devices (it involves calling for part of a file at a time rather than the whole file) so you will need to take this up with the people running your server. Note that this applies to the media files, not the feed.

  • Hyperlinks not saved correctly in PDF and Excel

    Hi,
I have a few reports with hyperlinks to other reports that contain multiple input parameters, which makes the links very long. ( greater than 400 characters )
When the reports are saved as excel, I am unable to invoke the child report on clicking the link as the link is not saved entirely ( can see that when i try to edit the hyperlink in excel ).  Therefore the child report opens but prompts for inputs as not all the inputs are passed
When saved as pdf, the link is not saved correctly and i cannot invoke the child report at all
Please can you suggest a solution/workaround? Alternately is it possible to disable the hyperlinks when saved as excel/pdf?
    Regards
    Sameer

    Hello,
I think this is a limitation in Excel where URL syntax has to be 255 characters or less
In order to prove that it's coming from excel and not BO, try in excel to create a false hyperlink which contains more than 255 characters.
A workaround might be to modify the cell as text and will not be recognized as a URL. So you should get it entirely.
Please let me know if it helps you
    Regards,
    Philippe

  • Can a JPEG be 'saved as' a PDF (or other file type)?

Can a JPEG file be saved as a PDF file?
Also, can it be saved in a file format that will allow the image to be inserted into, e.g., a WORD document? (Or can a JPEG itself simply be inserted into a WORD doc 'as is'?)
    Thanks.

You can reformat a .jpg to PDF.
No, it doesn't reformat it. The .jpg is simply embedded into the PDF file. As BDAqua noted, if it's a high resolution image, OS X's built in PDF creation module will knock it down to screen resolution.
For some reason, I was sent a chart (with numbers) as a jpeg file. Converting it to, and then printing it as, a PDF leaves the data in too small a font size.
What size is the .jpg before you place it into a PDF? Open it in Preview and press Command+I. What is the image size in pixels and image DPI (resolution)?
Is there any way to enlarge the text (via iPhoto, Preview, or some other Mac utility)?
72 dpi is low, screen resolution. 300 dpi is standard high, print resolution. So if the original is already a low res file, then there's little to nothing you can do to improve the text on a printed piece.

  • Why can't I "Save as Text" a pdf file received as an email attachment?

I can "Save as text" a pdf file which I have created in my own computer (that is, it goes into MS notebook that I then can Copy and Save as an MS Word file) but not when I receive a pdf as an email attachment. (The file is saved, but it is empty.) Why would I want to convert my own pdf back to text? Well, in case I no longer have the original Word document I suppose, but the thing is "Save as text" works with my pdf, but not with those I recieve from others. How come? Thanks!

Is this a scanned PDF? If so, it must first be OCR'd.

  • Copying text from PDF created using print to PDF function in OS X

I use a MacBook Pro with Mac OS X Lion, and Microsoft Word 2008 for Mac and Adobe Acrobat Pro.
For some reason when I use the Print to PDF function to export a PDF of a Word document, then open it with Acrobat Reader or Acrobat Pro 9 and try to select text and copy it then paste it into a word processor (include Word 2008) the resulting text is gibberish. It looks like some sort of encoding issue, but I can't understand that, since it's all happening on the same Mac! I have also tried to do this with Preview as the PDF reader but I still get gibberish.
The issue first started occuring with Snow Leopard, and all software is patched, but no dice.
I've attempted to work around this by using all of the different PDF options under the print dialog, and by saving the doc as a PDF, but I still get the same thing.
I've also tried copying and pasting the text int Pages, then saving it as PDF and trying to ready it .. again, no luck.  I was able to output the file directly from Pages to Preview and save it from there, but it really doesn't seem like this should be necessary, given that the functionality is build into the OS.
Anybody else have experience with this? I have just one user that needs to copy and paste text from the doc, so it's a real pain to have to maintain separate PDF and Word versions.
    Thanks!
    D

    Rishi,
    Welcome to Apple Discussions.
After reading your post, I tried to duplicate this problem. I opened a PDF, selected a sentence, then copied it to the clipboard. I then opened Pages, selected the blank template, then pasted in the text. It pasted perfectly.
Does this problem happen with all text in a PDF? With different PDFs?

  • Disappearing text in pdf form

    Hello,
we have an application using pdf forms. The reader 9..1.0 reads some data and forms are filled out.
there are 3 pages datas an 10 pages  for entering text. Each page contains automatically name and birth date of a patient, on the 10 pages the result of treatment is documented.
Now, sometimes, after opening the text again and changing the text ( e.g. the patient goes home after a week and something has to be entered) the saved text is gone, instead the old text is there though it was said "save". Also some pages are missing ( of the old text )
Furthermore, today I saw that there is a lot of text at the end of the form. Means, there are 10 pages text, let´s say 6 are filled, all have name and date filled out by our program but enough space to write on page 7. There is a button "reorganize text" and after that there is a message saying that the text is too large for the 10 pages and that the text is hidden. Indeed, all the text on page 7,8,9 and 10 is doubled from the beginning. when I tried to delete some text, there is again text and text and coming into the form and after an hour I could´n delete all the text which is "behind" the real text.
my first thought was that somebody didn´t insert a text block for lets say 30 lines but copied the whole text several times. But the people working there are much experienced.
So does anybode has a good inea? I know this is rather complicated but because these text are report of medical treament is is important that nothing is lost and that the text is okay. BTW it worked all the years starting with approval 5.0  over adobe 8 and now 9.
    thanks Joachim

Export the form data from Menu > View > Tools > Forms > More Form Options > Manage Form Data and save (it will save as a pdf). Then import the form data again from the saved file.

  • Copy paste text from pdf exported from Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control with Czech specific characters produced box charactex or ?.

Used Visual studio 2012. In our project there is used the Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control. In the report handled by the control are TextBoxs with a text with Czech specific characters e.g. (ř, ě, ...) . When exporting the report to pdf,
characters are displayed correctly. However when the text with czech characters in the pdf if copied and  placed into the seach box in the pdf document only box characters are displayed. The TextBox in the report use the default font Arial. When the report
is exported to Word, and then the Word document is saved as a pdf document, its ok. Coping a text with Czech charactes in the result pdf document and pasting into the search box displays again Czech characters not box characters.
Also when in the report handled by the ReportViewer control are several Tex Boxes and some of the boxes contains Czech characters and some not, after exporting to a pdf document there is problem with text selection. When in the pdf document I'm trying to
select several paragraphs, some with Czech characters and some without them, selection behaves strangely and jumps from one paragraph to another unexpectedly.

    Hi,
did you managed to avoid those squares?
BTW: if any such char. is encountered in a line, the entire line of text is grabbled.
I've tried even the ReportViewer from MSSQL 2014, but got the same problem. When I've tried IL Spy, I found a code, where it is checked if the PDFFont is composite - depending on that a glyph is created. But that still only a guess.
I've tried Telerik's reporting, they have similar problem (beside other), but not with the special characters. They produced scuares for some sequences like: ft, fi, tí.
Please give any info you got.
Until then my advices for you:
    a) try JasperReports (seems theyre most advanced, although it is java)
    b) Developer express has quiet quality reports - and it seems they got those special chars. right :D
    c) I created a ticket and waiting for Telerik's response (but if I had to choose reporting, I vould stick with a) or b)

  • Need to edit text in pdf file created in Illustrator CS6

I need for someone else to be able to edit text in a pdf I created from Illustrator. They have full acrobat and should be able to edit it. I have tried it myself to test before sending it but it's not working. The original file was created in Illustrator CS6 and saved as a pdf (text has not been created outlines). I opened the file in acrobat and saved it out as an extended file to be able to edit the text but no luck. Need to be able to highlight existing text and change it. I have tried edit text tool but instead of a selection box around each line of text, it puts a selection box around all of the text. I can highlight the text and delete it but am unable to change it. Each individual text line needs to be editable. Is there something I need to do differently in Illustrator to get it to work correctly in Acrobat?
If it helps- the file is a calendar and they need to be able to change the dates and events that are already there.

This really isn't a suitable use of Acrobat. You should all be using the same editing tool (i.e. Illustrator).
Extending files reduces the amount of editing Acrobat can do, it does not increase it.
The tool to edit text from Illustrator would be Edit Document Text. There is no guarantee it will break up nicely into lines, it's trying to help by making paragraph text.
Conceivably you could use a form for this (fill in the blank for dates) but really, you should be using the same tool. Not necessarily Illustrator, more Excel or specialist Calendar software.

  • How to detect alterations to a JPG image that has been saved as a PDF

I have received a file containing a cancelled bank check that was downloaded from a bank website and saved as a PDF of the screenshot. Upon opening the PDF, it appears that some of the original hand-written text in the image has been altered. I believe this PDfFwas originally saved as a JPG, then altered, then saved as a PDF. Is there any way to determine if indeed the text has been altered in the file? Thanks!

Not easily.  The bank's original version may have been a JPEG, then a screenshot was taken of that and saved as a PDF with unknown compression.  (really, who saves a screenshot as a PDF?)
You can examine the PDF in a text editor to see what created it.  You can open it in Illustrator to see the layer data (which might show tampering).
Beyond that you'd need an imaging forensics expert to look for tampering with the JPEG compressed image data (was it compressed more than once, was something significantly altered)?

  • All text in PDF iphoto books displays 1 or more inches lower than it should

    Hi all
Im having a bit of trouble with my iPhoto books. Regardless of the theme when I turn the book into a pdf the text displays at least 1 inch lower that it should. It looks ok in iPhoto but is rendered incorrectly when saved as a pdf. Which means i can not get them printed.
I presume some setting is wrong but I cant work out what it is.
    thanks
    Steve

    1) it depends on what kind of placeholder it is, title or body.
    2) incorrect. You can make your slide master and then save as a theme.
3)incorrect. You may need to make the item a placeholder in the document tab of the inspector.
    4) it is easier and if you're coming from PPT it taks a little getting used to. The only thing i prefer PPT to Keynote for is the master slides (in PPT 2007).
    5) If I'm reading this right there is an option to make "default" for master. Sorry I can't check i don't have my Mac with me.

  • Remove one logo & some text in pdf page

Hi, i want to remove one logo & some text in pdf page, so i have used stamp tool & done it. my problem is after saving output pdf file size is very high. so pls tell me after editing how to save in pdf format & less file size.(without loosing image quality). my pdf page i have upload to bellow link (520 kb). thanks....
    https://app.box.com/s/kn0g6kfs1pz4sjzfgmna

You can't. PS will always rasterize a PDF and as a result when saving you effectively save a pixel image that will almost always be larger than the original.

  • Send a pdf to ipad

how do you send a pdf to ipad.  In Lion I just saved it to the cloud but that doesn't work in Mountain Lion or am I doing something wrong?

I assume that you have a PDF reading App on the iPad so you can use file sharing or you can drag the PDF into the books library in iTunes and if you have iBooks on the iPad - then sync the iPad and the PDF should be in iBooks.
This explains how to use file sharing.
