Saving to SVG

I'm trying to output files at 24px by 24px from an art board to svg format. When the file saves to my desktop and I reopen the artboard is then 800px by 800px. Is this only because I'm opening in illustrator? Will the fill work correct at the desired size when I insert into the product I'm working on? Also, this wasn't a problem until I updated to the newest version of CC....
Thanks!

I have an artboard approx: 612px by 390px.  I save file as svg (w response off) and no artboards chosen (or with 1 artboard chosen). I close the file and then I open it again. The artboard is now letter size and the artwork is the same.
But now what is happening is the artboard remains the same size but the artwork is offset below (negative y) and looks like a second artboard, but it isn't. I can correct this by going to objects> artboards> fit to selected art, but it still won't save (hold the correction). I have hundreds of files to save, so fixing manually even if I could, is not an option.
Thinking these 2 problems are related?

  • Saving as SVG (w/out AI editability) changes artboard size ...why?

Saving as SVG (w/out AI editability) changes artboard size ...why? ai saves the artboard dimensions as the frame, unless it decides to expand the frame to accommodate extraneous material. what is weird and disappointing is that ai does not read these frame values back in to recreate the artboard; you have to use preserve ai capability which attaches huge code. How to get it to retain the chosen artboard size?  Thanks, Rich.

I have the same problem. When I save as AI and reopen it the graphics are crisp and align to the pixel grid. When I save as SVG and reopen it the graphics are no longer crisp and no longer align to the pixel grid. It looks like the artboard shifts .5 pixels right and down. That's just odd.
    Here's the screenshots (sorry 144dpi).
    AI File:
SVG file: (do you see the .5 pixel shift?)
This really concerned me because I am designing SVG's for the web - so they would look crisp on the pixel grid. I tested the SVG in html and it looked crisp on 72dpi and 144dpi displays. So the problem is only how Illustrator imports the SVG, which is very weird. Any thoughts why this happens?
    Also, i'm using Illustrator CS6.

  • Saving an SVG with Illustrator CC Not Working

I am attempting to save an SVG with the new version of Illustrator (Creative Cloud) and it's not working. It seems the code that's output is quite different than that of the old version.
Just to give you a bit of a background on my project, I'm adding a new icon to an existing AI sprite file.
I hacked a solution to the problem by pasting the new bit of code for the new icon from the creative cloud-generated svg into the old CS6 file, and added fill color code to three different places in the new icon code to set the icon color - it was showing up as black and should have been white (it is white in the AI file).
I tried saving the SVG many different ways to no avail - how I can properly save the svg file directly from Illustrator CC? Why isn't it working the same way it did in the previous version?
    Any advice is appreciated! Thanks!

Another thing to note - I was advised previously to check the "Preserve Illustrator Editing Capabilities" checkbox, but that did not work for me. I have tried a number of different SVG settings and nothing seems to work.

  • Help: artboard resizes when saving to svg in illustrator cc

I am on a pc (windows 8) using illustrator cc and trying to save from an .ai file to an .svg file. I've also taken a previously saved svg and manually fixed the artboard, then saved. Still resizes the artboard. I've done this multiple times with sucess, but after updating the software last week, the artboard is expanding when I save. I thought I must have changed a setting, but don't think so. I've read lots of posts and tried all kinds of settings but here doesn't seem to be a solution out there. Wish I could go back to the older version!

  • Saving as SVG issues...

Hello fellow AI world. I design templates in Illustrator CS3 that I then upload to our design online website. The format must be SVG so I save as SVG before I do any uploading. This has been an ongoing trend for over a year with no major issues. Now I have ONE MAJOR ISSUE. My computer got a nasty virus and died. I had to re-install my programs on my new system, including the Adobe Suite (inluding Illustrator CS3). Everything seemed to be working just how it did. The first time I saved my file as an SVG, I tried to upload it to my website and got an error. Note: when searching my computer for said SVG file, the thumbnail next to it looks like the symbol for a corrupted file, as opposed to the usual IE icon an SVG usually has. The twist is that if I upload the very same SVG file from another computer (also running AI CS3) the template uploads beautifully with no error (and also has the correct SVG icon next to the file). What the ???? I have made sure all the SVG settings are the same. The two versions of AI CS3, however, are slightly different. Mine is a 13.0.0 and the other is 13.0.1 - does anyone know if this would make a difference? Or what other issues could be causing this?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions/advice.....

Thanks for the info. I don't use an FTP client to upload these files. I log into the admin side of the website so I upload directly to it. I aplogize as I am not the programmer (obviously). I was using AI 13.0.0 for the past year with no issues but I took your advice and applied the update. After doing this, I rebuilt another template and saved it as an SVG. This is what my SVG icons are STILL looking like:
Needless to say, I got the same error. When I used the other AI running computer to upload the same file, it worked fine. Grrr....

  • Art board dimension changes on saving a SVG/SVGZ

When I save an SVG, AI seems to move the art board dimensions - I have tried various things mentioned in other forums:
Object -> Artboard -> Fit to Artboard bounds
and on save using the artboard but nothing changes, on save my art board is cropped around my image - on re-open my image is now at the bottom of an oversized artboard!
    Before Save: http://prntscr.com/5c2c1f
    Save Settings: http://prntscr.com/5c2cc8
    After Save: http://prntscr.com/5c2bux
Another forum post suggested removing Responsive as an option (which actually I need although I figured what the hey, I'll give anything a bash), this gave me http://prntscr.com/5c2cjy
Its driving me nuts - does anyone have any suggestions?
    Thanks in advance
    Kieran

    Hello Chandra,
There are two separate issues in your post.
    1. Format of the header line ( yellow color).
    2. Excel sheet is in a different format.
    1. Looks to be more like an excel integration issue. Does this happen to all new dimensions being created? Can you try creating a dimension of type U in the AppShell and check the behaviour?
    2. This is a very common message that occurs when you have other non BPC excel workbooks open. This is more of an irritant rather than an problem. You should not be seeing this error, if all other excel workbooks are closed.
    Hope this helps.

  • Saving an SVG with opacity

I'm surprised I can't seem to find more people asking about this, maybe I've missed it:
Is there no way to export semi-transparent shapes as SVG without rasterizing them in Illustrator? The SVG format includes both opacity, fill-opacity and stroke-opacity attributes, but a simple vector shape set to, say, 50% opacity always gives me a "Transparent artwork is rasterized" message when trying to save as SVG. This basically exports the shape as a base64 bitmap within the SVG file, rather than simply giving it opacity="0.5".
Am I missing something? Anyone have a clever workaround for it? It seems bizarre that such a basic attribute can't be exported directly.

Ah, I appear to have worked it out – decided to have another go at it since clearly it was something at my end. It doesn't rasterize transparent shapes if I save as SVG 1.1 rather than 1.2 Tiny. I thought I had already tried 1.1, but I must have clicked the wrong option by accident.
Still, according to this 1.2 Tiny should also support opacity:
Rendering Model – SVG Tiny 1.2
I guess it was only ever a W3C recommendation, but still seems weird not to support opacity. But for most of my purposes it doesn't matter if I save as 1.1 so at least it's solved the issue for now.
    Thanks for your input!

  • Saving an ID document into SVG

I've had a special client request to save/convert a mult-page (around 20 pages) Indesign document to SVG format.
I know there was an option to save in SVG in ID CS3 but this seems to be no longer available in CS4.
What's the best way to save a multipage ID document into SVG these days?
    Any help much appreciated.

Thanks for the very helpful feedback.
As Michael suggested I opened the ID created PDF in illustrator and saved as svg. I have to save each page individually but it works. Took a bit of trial and error as font display got messed up until I set the fonts/type in the 'save as' panel to 'convert to outline'. But it works - hurrah!!
Also seems to work if I save the ID file to eps files, open those in Illustrator and then save as svg (again with font set to outline).

  • Saving SVGs on Mac produces ns_extend error but reads on other computers

I've had some experience with SVG files already, and was the primary svg converter until my computer (a pc) crashed. I'm now running on an iMac (with the latest Yosemite OS), and the same settings I'd use to export files give me an error along the lines of
"This page contains the following errors:
error on line 3 at column 36: Entity 'ns_extend' not defined
Below is a rendering of the page up to the first error."
(and the space below is blank)
I've tried saving files that have saved properly from windows, and i still get that same error. I've even played around with the save/export options.
    But here's the clincher:
When I take those failed files to a pc to open, they open fine, with no errors, in any application.
I've also viewed previously created svg files on this Mac with no problem.
Any SVG I save/create from this Mac computer gives me an ns_extend error, on this computer only.
I really hope someone can give me some insight, help, or suggestions with this.
    Thanks for your time!

  • Illustrator saving .svg/svg code incorrectly

    Hi all,
Ive recently encountered an issue when saving/export SVGs from illustrator.
Illustrator is altering type and transforming paths upon saving/exporting... for example, I have type the "entworth" in the design... but when saving to SVG it replaces "entworth" > "ent-" and changes its position ... it has also been translating various shapes (rectangles, circles etc.)?!?!
I know this isn't a disaster as Im able to alter the SVG code manual... but its a PAIN!! and I need a solution! Please!
Has anyone else experienced this issue?
    Am I being a fool?
    Im running:
    Illustrator CC 2014
    OSX 10.10
    Cheers
    James

Alas no, this is not an image-specific thing. Illustrator pulls in the vectors correctly, recognises the included effect, applies it as a live effect (in appearance) ...all well and good. Then draws it ugly This is easily confirmed by copying out the SVG filter code, starting a new document, drawing something (a circle is good, to really show the alpha smoothing going wrong), applying SVG Filter and then pasting the code back in.
That example file is here: http://www.w3.org/TR/SVG11/images/filters/filters00.svg

  • SVG image does not appear in mobile version but does in desktop version

    Hi,
I am new to using Muse and have created only one site before in Muse. I have taken screenshots to show the problem I am having.
I have used Illustrator to create the following logo image that I save out as an SVG file:
As you've probably guessed, I have used clipping mask to insert the marbly purple image into the shapes and text (this may be relevant to the problem, I don't know).
I then save it out as an SVG with the following details as advised by Adobe:
Then moving into Muse, I File > Place the SVG file. 'Unable to generate thumbnail' comes up in both desktop and phone versions:
Regardless, I uploaded to FTP post to my website. While the SVG appears perfectly on my desktop browser, it does not show at all on my phone browser:
This is not only happening on my phone, I have visited the same website on multiple phone devices and still the SVG image does not appear. Any ideas why this is happening?
Have I totally missed something about file formats for mobile browser versions in Muse?
Also- in illustrator, I saved the SVG logo for the mobile version as a SMALLER SVG than the one I saved for the desktop version.
    Thanks

Use a PNG file. I see nothing in your logo that would warrant using anything else. You're not scaling it, there is no interaction and all you are doing is masking out some data that is pixels already. Pardon me, but using an SVG makes no sense at all. Beyond that one would need to see the file, but my guess would be that the "responsive" setting once again embeds some garbage data. Wouldn't be the first time...

  • Issues with converted Inkscape SVG files

I've been downloading a lot of SVG files, most of which were created with Inkscape, from openclipart.org recently. I've had to open them in Illustrator and save them in .ai format before placing them in an InDesign document as InDesign doesn't accept SVG files as a link.
My problem is that some of these SVG files that I've converted to .ai don't display properly when I place them into InDesign. I can see the bounding box of the linked files, but nothing inside. I'm pretty sure this has only happened with files that I have edited a little after bringing them into Illustrator. The edits haven't been anything major - just changing colours and adding transparency masks here and there as sometimes some of the SVG gradients and mask/transparency effects are lost when I open them with Illustrator.
I've tried re-saving the SVG files from openclipart.org and doing a save as in Illustrator to force it to reconstruct the file, but with no luck. Here is an example of one of the troublesome SVGs: http://openclipart.org/people/Gerald_G/Gerald_G_Lemon_Variations_2.svg
Does anyone know why this is happening?

It seems like restarting InDesign has fixed the issue. Still, I have one particular file which does this every time I try to place it, even after restarting InDesign.

  • Indesign CS4 and SVG export (or lack of)

I normally do documents in Indesign and then export to pdf (for web and print). I've had a special client request to convert a few of those Indesign document to SVG format.
This was an option in CS3 that has been taken off CS4.
What's the best way to produce this? Is there a quick option to do this? The only option I can see is by exporting the Indesign file into eps, opening that into Ilustrator and then saving as SVG. The file could potentially have a lot of pages - so it could be pretty time consuming opening each eps file produced into Illustrator and then saving as individual SVG files. Maybe I can't see the wood for the trees?
Any help on a better and more efficient way of doing this would be brill.
Is there a plug in/extension available that makes up for this now redundant option in Indesign CS4?
    Moll O' Moon

    Hi MoMo,
I noticed this issue right now too. At work I have IDCS3 and here at home CS4. Damn...what a crap! I'd bet that this is just a (stupid) product-strategical decision to take all options fromthe user so that he must chose between Adobe's proprietary Formats and "everything" stays within the Adobe ecosystem. However, thanks to Inkscape I finally got it done.

  • Has anyone got embedded fonts in SVG to work on Mac OS X Lion?

I have used CS3, CS4 suite versions of illustrator on Snow leopard, and embedding fonts worked correctly,
but on several computers at work here, none of the CS5 or CS5.5 suite versions of illustrator embed fonts in SVG format on Lion.
I have also tried CS4 on Lion and still does not work...
Saving as SVG without fonts works fine,
Saving with fonts shows error message and no fonts are ever brought over.
This shows brand new ai file with a text box and three letters in standard font:
This shows saving as SVG to documents folder  (does not matter where saving to, issue still exists):
This shows the SVG options (Note font is SVG, subsetting is common english and glyphs used.)
    Error message:
Does not matter how many fonts are attempted to be embedded, no fonts (with glyphs translation) ever show up on the svg file.
    Any suggestions?
    Other than
reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5 then CS5.5(DONE, does not work)
reinstall lion completely, then reinstall CS5.5 only(DONE, does not work)

This is what i currently have to do:
Currently i use a secondary PPC computer with leopard 10.5 and Illustrator CS3 on it, and save the file as svg using those settings (fonts).
Open the CS3 svg in text edit
Copy fonts created in CS3 and then paste in CS5 svg file which i created on the intel computer with lion (mac 10.7)
Also tested this in mountain lion 10.8, still same error, have to do this stupid workaround for now....

  • Illustrator CS6 producing corrupt SVG files

I have had Illustrator for a few months, and I haven't had any problems with saving files as SVGs until a couple of weeks ago. One day, I was able to save them with no problem,  and the files could be opened in all other SVG viewing/editing programs, then, the next day, the files I saved as SVGs could not be opened in Silhouette Studio (The file is corrupt) or Illustrator (The file is corrupt, please verify). I can open these SVGs in Inkscape and resave them there. Then, the files will open in AI and Silhouette Studio without a problem. I've done everything I can think of, from simply restarting my computer to uninstalling and reinstalling AI. But, the problem continues. What could have gone wrong or changed to make Illustrator suddenly start to product corrupt SVGs? I would really like to find a way to resolve this problem so I can cut the extra stepp of opening and saving in Inkscape out of my to do list. Illustrator is too much of an investment for it not to be working properly. Any help you can give me would be so appreciated.

    l,
The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file (you may have tried/done some of them already); 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to 3 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible);
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall, run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.
