Saving tunes on my ipod

I am downloading a great number of CDs to my ipod Classic.
When I am about a quarter of the way through recording this pile my computer says its free space is limited
How do I keep the tunes recorded on the ipod when I clear the used space and create more space. Have tried it once and destroyed all that I had transferred on the ipod but I did release space on my computer
Help please

Hello Nanyuki,
And welcome to Apple Discussions!
I am downloading a great number of CDs to my ipod Classic.
If that is the case, you should have posted this in the *iPod Classic forum*, which can be found through this link.

To answer your question...
In order to make this possible you have to set your iPod Classic up to "manually manage music" by enabling this option from under your iPod's Summary tab in iTunes while it's plugged in. For more information regarding setting this up and how to sync your music manually, see page 26 of your iPod's manual.
http://manuals.info.apple.com/enUS/iPod_classic_160GB_UserGuide.pdf
However, if something happens to your iPod, you will lose everything on it for good, including iTunes purchased tracks (if you have any), which cannot be re-downloaded. If you are wanting to delete tracks on your computer to save space, I would look into investing in an external hard drive to store your iTunes library on instead.

This information is correct for Word, Excel and PowerPoint documents.
It's also correct for Outlook if the Outlook Calendars where exported in the ics format.

  • I have just opened a new account for my Ipod Nano. My husband and daughter both have accounts on the same computer. I have registered and have downloaded a song, however it the Ipod has synchronised and also downloaded all my daughters tunes fron her Ipod

I have just opened a new account with my new I pod Nano. I have registered,my husband and daughter have an Itunes account on the same computer. I have bought one song but the Ipod has synvhronised also downloading my daughters tunes from her Ipod.
How do I delete all these songs and prevent this from happening again.?

Installing iTunes does not cause content to magically appear on the computer.
Your media is only where you put it.
iOS devices are not backup devices.
Copy the media from the old computer to the new computer.

I have just purchased a new Mac and want to sync my ipod - previous computer was PC - can I recover tunes from the ipod to the Mac?

    1) authorize iTunes on the new machine for your iTunes store account(s)
    2) connect your device and right-click or control-click it in the iTunes Source list, then choose transfer purchases from the shortcut menu that appears.
    3) sync the device
iTunes will wipe the iPod but, since you transferred your purchases in the previous step, your content will be in your library and you can re-populate the iPod with it.
above covers purchases from the iTunes store. for everything else, check out this post by Zevoneer.

  • TRANSFERING TUNES FROM ANOTHER IPOD TO YOUR OWN IPOD

HOW DO YOU TRANSFER TUNES FROM ANOTHER IPOD TO YOUR OWN IPOD?

Unless the music was put on the iPod in Disk Mode -- a la This Link -- you are not supposed to.
If you want the same music files on multiple iPods, you connect the iPods to the computer that has the songs on it.

  • Getting tunes of your ipod and into itunes

HI please can someone help me?
I had my ipod set up with my PC, that then died and I now have a laptop. I need to get my tunes off my ipod and into my itunes on my laptop without having to dowload them all again? Can anyone help? I also already have songs in I tunes that aren't on my ipod?
    Thanks

iTunes has an option to copy your iTunes Store purchases directly from an iPod to the computer, you'll find details in this article: Copying iTunes Store purchases from your iPod or iPhone to a computer
One other thing, if your iPod is set to sync automatically you need to take care connecting to an iTunes that doesn't have the same content. Open iTunes first and go to Edit>Preferences>Devices and check the box "Prevent iPods and iPhones from syncing automatically" and choose Ok before connecting your device. Don't sync the iPod with iTunes until you have recovered everything you need from it.

  • I have downloaded some new tunes onto my ipod but now find some of my already purchased items have disappeared.WHY?

Can anyone help??? I have downloaded some new tunes onto my ipod but somehow some purchased items have vanished from my Library & have been wipoed off my ipod. Help

You can only synce an iPod to one iTunes Library/one computer.  However, you can manage music among different computer . see:
Using iPhone, iPad, or iPod with multiple computers
If you want to transfer non-iTunes purchased music from an iPod to a computer other than the one you synced the music from you need to use a third-party program like one of those discussed here:

  • How do I recover tunes from my iPod after a hard disk crash?

I've just received my PowerMac back after a hard disk crash and am having to reinstall all software etc.
My iPod obviously contains all the music I'd downloaded from the iTunes music store and all the CD's I'd loaded manually into iTunes.
I can't see any way of copying the tunes on my iPod back into my iTunes library...
    Can anyone help?
I had to use a data recovery tool to recover data from my disk after the crash and it's going to be a really long job to sort out what's what...

You can't sync or drag your music back from an iPod to iTunes, the transfer of music is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve the files from your iPod, this is just a selection. Have a look at the web pages and documentation for these, they are generally quite straightforward. I use Senuti but check the others out and choose whichever you prefer.

  • I cannot transfer my tunes from my ipod to my mac

I have had to reload my mac operating system, in so doing I have deleted all my tunes, although they are backed up on my Ipod touch.  When I tried to sync the two the message said that this was not possible due to the fact that their was another Library. This of course does not exist now. Can anybody help me get my tunes off my ipod and on to my macbook?

Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not a backup device and media transfer was planned with you maintaining a master copy of your media on a computer which is itself properly backed up against loss. Syncing is one way, computer to device, updating the device content to the content on the computer, not updating or restoring content on a computer. The exception is iTunes Store purchases which can be transferred to a computer.

For transferring other items from an i-device to a computer you will have to use third party commercial software. Examples (check the web for others; this is not an exhaustive listing, nor do I have any idea if they are any good):

  • How do I get saved photos from my iPod touch to my computer?

Just as the subject says, I don't know how to get saved photos from my iPod touch to my computer. Does anyone have an idea of how to do this? My iPod is currently the latest version.

When you sync your iPod touch it should do all of this automatically. If not, when your iPod touch appears in the iTunes control bar click it and check the settings as it should always take a complete back up. I back mine up to a mac, and when I do it automatically launches iphoto to transfer any images on there. I’m pretty sure that gallery in windows does the same, although you may have to manually transfer them.Or you can consider some iPod transfer softwares. But there are many softwares.I think you may need a transfer software review.I hope it can help you~
