Saving vector data from Photoshop?

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone could help me out here: I've created a Photoshop document with some stylized text (gradient overlays), and I need for this to be transparent. If I save it as a PSD file it retains the transparency when I add it to InDesign. However, I'd like to keep the text as vector if possible (I have not rasterized it). I know I'd have to use a Photoshop PDF for that, but I can't figure out how to make a PDF transparent. Should I be trying to go through Illustrator somehow? Or stick with the rasterized type? Hope that makes sense.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, Phyllis

I checked that (and set it to transparent), but it still makes it white. I guess it flattens the Photoshop document which makes it no longer transparent? My original document was just on a transparent background in Photoshop. I tried a clipping path just now, but there's no option to save that into the PDF (as far as I can tell). I'm guessing I need to switch to Illustrator if I need transparency on a vector?
Thanks, Phyllis

  • Import data from photoshop album 4.0

I have purchased a new computer (windows 8) and installed photoshop elements 11. My problem: I used to work with photoshop album 4.0 (on my old pc) and have thousands of pictures mapped to varios tags (person, locations, events, etc.). How can I now import this information from photoshop album into the organizer of photoshop elements 11?

Thanks - this helped a lot!

  • Access vector data from AI or EPS

    Hi!
Does anyone know if we can access vector data from AI or EPS files, to be used with an effect plugin? Shachar may be?
I've looked at Streams and DynamicStreams, but couldn't find anything...
    Thanx,
    François

again, i find myself the bearer of bad news...
AE deson't offer any in-depth access of the format parsers. you can only ask AE to fetch you a rendered image via it's parsers. (i.e. IO and FBIO plug-ins)
but since you can find the path to the origin file using AE's suites, you can parse it yourself. (NOT going to be easy)
from what i gathered, Ghostscript is the API to go with.

  • Photoshop EPS not saving vector data?

I have a Photoshop CS3 file with 2 layers that use vector masks. I saved the file as an .eps and checked "Include Vector Data." I placed the .eps in an InDesign document. On screen everything looks fine, but if I print to PDF the vector mask layers are missing; likewise if I open/rasterize the .eps file in Photoshop the vector mask layers are gone. It prints fine if I place the original .psd file in the InDesign doc. Any ideas why .eps doesn't appear to save the vector data? Thanks...

I understand that eps doesn't support layers, and that vector data will be rasterized if I open the eps in photoshop. That's not the issue; the issue is the vector layer data is being *discarded* and is not making it through the workflow: eps placed into an InDesign document and distilled to PDF.
Update: I merged all layers in the psd file except for 1 vector layer & saved as an eps. When I reopened the eps in photoshop, it tells me it's rasterizing eps data, but when the file opens the imagery from the vector layer is missing. Likewise, if I place the eps in InDesign and distill a pdf, the imagery from the vector layer is missing, even though it appears in the onscreen preview in InDesign. Maybe something is screwy with that mask?

  • Newbie Importing Vector work from photoshop

A friend of mine asked me to make a design that will be cut out by a laser cutter.
I work faster in Photoshop than Illustrator, so I made the design in photoshop using all vector elements (text and pen tool). From photoshop, I did "save as" and selected .eps and preserve vector data. The eps files look ok when I open them in Illustrator, but the laser cutter store says they are not vector data and they can't use them to cut.
Is there any way to get a usable eps or ai file from my psd files? I would love some help

Just to update the topic. Beth sent me a file.
    You were there Beth
You had it, but just weren't sure what to look for. After releasing the clipping masks there were 3 or 4 of them right around the edge of the artboard. Often when opening a Photoshop-generated PDF these full page masks exist. Because they overlapped each other, after releasing them you only saw the black rectangle. If you had deleted all of those you would have only seen vector paths in Outline Mode and that black rectangle would have been gone.
After that, it was merely a matter of selecting all, fill with black. Then go through the circles you had and make those compound paths by selecting the inner and outer circle, choose Object > Compound Path > Make and finally changing their color.
That's all there was to it.

  • Saving array data from a waveform chart

I am using a CRIO 9004 and a 9237 bridge module to measure some strains from strain gauges. I've got one timed loop that reads the DMA FIFO and puts the arrays of values (16 data points, 4 per channel) into a queue. In the consumer timed  loop a For loop scales the binary data, auto indexes it into arrays, then the arrays are merged into a 2D array for the four channels  displayed on a waveform chart . Everytime the consumer loop runs it indexes 4 data points (per channel) yet the waveform chart plots them in a consecutive manner and doesn't overwrite the previous four. If I convert the arrays to waveform arrays I don't see anything on the waveform chart.
If I pass the 2D array of data to a array indicator inside or outside the consumer loop I get only 16 data points. I want to save the information that appears on the waveform chart  after the consumer loop but because I'm not using waveform data type I can't use the write waveforms to file vi. The waveform chart history buffer has been set to 195360.
Idealy we will run the four channels for 120 seconds charting the data and saving the data. The minimum data rate is 1613kS/s (403 per channel) The data can be saved after the loops have finished gathering and processing or while they are running. I noticed when I tried to write to TDMS it slowed the consumer down. Same thing if I use a shift register with the volume of data.
I suspect I'm not sending data to the chart in the correct manner ( usualy takes two attempts to "clear chart" using shortcut menu).  I'm not too familiar with timed loops /producer consumer loops  and just tried to put something together based on examples.
I've attached my host vi and front panel screenshot.

Hope they appear attached this time.

  • Converting Vector shapes from Photoshop to Indesign

I am trying to convert a Photoshop document to an Indesign document. I have vector shapes that I want to transfer to the new INDD document. However, I cannot seem to find a workaround that maintains the ability to edit the vector shapes once placed in the INDD document.
Is there a way to transfer the vector graphics from PSD to INDD so they will maintain their editing capabilities? So far, my work around has been to recreate the vector shapes in Illustrator and copy and paste them into the INDD document. However, this is very tedious. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

    Jambo,
You could try to save the file as pdf if you want to take the whole content as one from AI and open the same in Photoshop.
Or save the file as Photoshop and while making the files make sure you put the content in different layers while creating in Ai and then save as PSD (Photoshop Document)
While save make sure you have write layers option selected when you save as PSD in advance options

    node = document->find_from_name( name = 'attr' ).
    attr = node->get_value( ).
attr is the attribute name of some node named node_info.
When i use this code it fetched only the first line of the table i.e only the first value.
How will i fetch the values for rest of the rows. Can u please guide me on this

  • Saving the data from two info path forms in to a single list in share point 2010

    Hi ,
I have two  info path forms are in share point page FM 1 and FM 2.
In FM 1 I am getting data from lists by using drop down and casket drop down  and FM 2 i need to enter manually after entering
i want to save both forms information(FM 1 & FM 2 ) in to a single list of  share point 2010
If any knows the solution please reply me
    Thanking You,
    Arun Darly

    Hi,
Based on your description, my understanding is that you want to save the data from two info path forms in to a single list in share point 2010.
We can't save the data from two info path forms in to a single list, but we can
save the data from two info path forms in to a single library.
Open the  FM 1 and FM 2 in Infopath(you have save it Locally once).
Publish the FM 1 and FM 2 as content types named FM 1 and FM 2.
Add the content types FM 1 and FM 2 into a document library, Then you can save the data
from two info path forms in to a single library.

  • Saving or Saving As Directly from Photoshop to disk AND into Lightroom catalog?

If I create a file in Photoshop without coming from Lightroom or duplicate a file in Photoshop that I opened from Lightroom, is there a way to save the new file from Photoshop to the desired directory on my local hard drive and simultaneously have it added to my Lightroom catalog? Or do I need to save the file then import the file into the catalog? I'm working with CS6.

W-W, just a slight addendum to your reply. You CAN use "Save As" from within PS after an "Edit In", and even change the file-type AND the destination folder, and the file WILL be returned to LR. The caveat is that the file-type has to be either Tiff or PSD (it doesn't have to be the same as what's set in the External Editing tab of the Preferences), it just can't be a Jpeg, and using a different folder will lose the stacking. In fact you can make multiple "save as" commands, and they'll all appear back in Lightroom provided they are Tiff or PSD (though you'll need to use a different file-name for the second or more derivatives of the same file-type if you want them all in the same folder and thus stacked with the original).
That's on Windows using LR4.3 and CS5....but I think it works that way on other versions as well. One further caveat, however, is that where an ACR mis-match occurs (as in my current setup) when using the Edit-In operation, the option to "Open Anyway" would have to be used to make use of this option....if you use "Render Using Lightroom" the Tiff/PSD is created in Lightroom and subsequent "save as" files are NOT brought back into LR.
Apologies for the complicated post, but thought it important to clarify that "Save As" can work.

  • Saving vector data

A client wants to place an Illustrator file within Photoshop and save as PDF. Readers will view the PDF on screen at increased magnifications. I know that people will say, work the whole lot in Illustrator - but they don't want to do that at this stage.
Text will stay vector no matter what magnification - but the map looks pixellated.
By keeping info as smart object doesn't work.
    Any suggestions please.

That's because things other than type and a few other things possibly in ai files (depending on how the file was saved and/or file type saved as or exported as)  get rasterized when opened in photoshop,
Why won't they just save a pdf from illustrator and avoid all that?

  • Saving ResultSet Data From JTable

Hi! I need help! I am using a JTable to display resultsets from an oracle database. I am retrieving the columns and rows from the DB and putting them into vectors. Then I return the table and display it in a JScrollpane. I have a button which searches the db table for my query and fills the JTable with the results. Now, I am trying to save that result using a JFileChooser or some form of saving method. Does anyone have any idea how I could do this? Thanks.

The JFileChooser will only give you a dialog that asks the user for a filename, it doesn't do the saving for you.
Your question belongs into the swing or general programming category, since the database portion is all working, but here's a hint:
You are trying to pull the data out of the table and save it to the file. Create a FileOutputStream for the filename the user choses in the file-choser, then iterate the rows and columns of the table (or the table's model (look at the JTable.getModel() method) and write the values to the file, maybe separated by commas and each row terminated by a carriage-return/linefeed combination.
This should give you a nice CSV file (that can be read by Excel) containing the data that is in your table.

  • Saving the data from the spool

Looks like SAP has a limit to 10 Pages. But, this can be modified. SP01>Execute with your selection, then Menu>Goto--> Display requests > Settings> you see the option to increase the page count.
The above change depends on memories. Hope this helps.

  • Saving edited photos from photoshop

If I open up photoshop elements 4, then edit my pic, I can't seem to save it to iphoto. In fact, it says saved, but I can't locate it! I hesitate to ask for help because this seems so stupid. I know it's a simple answer, but I'm so frustrated and elements is just sitting here unused because I don't know how to save my work! help!

    terrabear:
Using 2 Image Editors in iPhoto
If you want to use both iPhoto's editing mode and a 3rd party editor without having to go back and forth to the Preference pane, once you've selected the 3rd party editor as your editor of choice, reset the Preferences back to "Open in main window". Then when you Control-click on an image, you can select "Edit in external editor" in the Contextual menu to edit in your selected editor.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application, iPhoto dB file backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar

  • Text is getting cut off when saving a PDF from Photoshop CS 6

I've begun to run into an issue quite frequently that I just cannot find a work around for. The first image shows what it looks like in Photoshop:
Then this is what it looks like in Adobe Acrobat after it's saved from PS:

    Please help.

I've played around with the PDF settings, and nothing seems to work. Here's what I'm using now:
As for the font properties, this is what Acrobat shows after I open the file in there:
