What is best way to save Imovie files imported for future) ( use to use in future Project..)
Should I drag files into toast ?
Im thinking of beginning a major project ( 1 hr. movie for DVD )
Need to save various files to use in special themed areas . .
Can i burn on a CD ?

..... you ask for the best way, there are two: as David mentioned, allways use you tape as starting point for any project...
second best: harddrive... 1h dv is ~12Gb... so, CD/DVD makes no sense
any conversion to make it fit onto such media results in a dramatic loss of pic quality because of compression (e.g. mpeg2 as on video dvd). and very less convenient, because you have twice the computation process...
built a second drive in your tower or get a firewire connected, Mac hfs+ formated external drive.......

Trouble saving video files in premiere 13

Hello!
I recently started recording gameplay with Nvidia Shadowplay at 1920x1080 with 30 and sometimes 60 fps.
I import them into Adobe Premiere 13 as mp4 files, and after cutting them and adding music, I get some issues saving them.
When I try to save them as MPEG files at 1920x1080 with 30 fps, I can only hear the music but not see the video itself when I try to watch it with windows media player.
But when i try to save them as Windows Media files at 720x480 with 30 fps, I can see the video and hear the audio, but the video quality looks like 360p and looks really bad.
Am I doing something wrong? How do I save the video at 1920x1080 with 30 fps? :O Please help!

What is your computer operating system? If Windows 8 or 8.1 64 bit, there have been known Microsoft issues related to the Windows Media Player and video with MPEG2 video compression. Are the 720 x 480 files also MPEG2?
Please download and install the VLC Player, and determine if you have the same playback problems or export your Timeline as AVCHD.mp4. (See Publish+Share/Computer/AVCHD and Presets = MP4 - H.264 1920 x 1080p30.

Saving video files in iMovie'11 and iMovie'06

Hi gang! I have a question about iMovie.
When I bought an iMac in 2006 it came with iLife06 preinstalled. Ever since then I have been using iMovie 06 to make movies. In the fall of 2007 I bought a video camera and I started filming my floorball team's games. If you want to find out more about floorball, check out this link:

Anyway... Since then I have been making little clips and posted them on Youtube, much to te enjoyment of the players. I have also burned every single game I've filmed on a DVD. What I have done also is save certain clips, highlights, i.e. goals and saves and such. I have on iMovie project save for each season since then. 2007/08, 2008/09, 2009/10 and about half of the 2010/11 season. We're talking of about 800-900 clips.
Now...
About two weeks ago the harddrive on my trusted old iMac died on me. Fortunately I had the material backed up on an external harddrive. I bought a new computer, a Mac Mini. Luckily I had iMovie 06 on the external drive so I could still use it, should I want to (I preferred its interface to that of iMovie 08).
However, I edited the film from our last game in iMovie'11, and I am smitten. Which leads me to my question.
How do I continue to save my highlight clips? The goals and the saves and whatnot? Should I save them in Events or in Projects?

The keyword feature sounds very handy. In the old iMovie 06 I gave each clip I save a number/name. four digits depending which season it was (0809 for the 2008/09 season for example) - then three digits (001 for the first one, 002 for the second one, 003 for the third one etc.) and then I enter the name of the person who scored the goal or made the save. 1011-091 Oskar Andersson, 1011-135 Bobby Ehnberg, for example. If I can tag the new clips with keywords in the same manner that will be very useful later, if I should happen to make a film with only goals that Bobby has scored for example.
I'm amazed how smooth iMovie'11 is, once you get a hang of how to edit your films. And it's so easy to make cool clips.

I had all of my video files that I work on in iMovie saved to an external hard drive exclusively to save space on my Macbook. I had just finalized a project, went to work on another one and files couldn't be found, were not deleted how do I find them?

The other day I had just finalized a project and went to work on another one and when I opened the project I could see what should have been there, but scrolling over the entire clip I would only see black and that the file was missing. I did not drag anything on the hard drive to the trash or move anything. How can I get those files? These are videos of my kids and I am devastated and willing to try anything!

Control click does not work - no option to find files. I have no idea what to do. When I look at the usage of the external drive the space is being used, but I cannot find the files. I am going to try MacKeeper's Undelete and see if I can make any progress with it.

After saving project upon reopening one of my video files and it's corresponding audio is red (both are offline). Attempts at relink result in a warning that the audio will be deleted (which is does when tested).
This project is based on a multicam sequence (2 video files) and using Pro CC (latest Cloud build).

First off, some bookkeeping & jargon matters:

.mts files are Sony AVCHD files. filmed with Sony NXCAM NXU5 camera.

My bad - I exported/encoded the sequence to a new output clip.
Now back to our regularly scheduled troubleshooting. Three questions:
did you start this project in CC7.1 and then update to 7.2/7.2.1 along the way?

I gather that you created the multicam sequence via the new workflow in the Project panel: select the clips, right-click>CreateMulticamSourceSequence. Am I right?
Correct
If so, please create a new sequence, set the timeline to insert sequences as individual clips (via the left-most button under the timecode control), add the multicam sequence to the new sequence, and post a screenshot of the timeline.
Now all of a sudden I am able to open my project file(s) as before with no problems.... very curious.
I did this and then could not find my multicam sequence.... so no screen shot... BUT what happened?

Saving movie files for video I Pod

I hope you can help me with an issues of trying to save a home movie into the right format so that I can transfer the movie to my new I pod video. I have been trying to use Final Cut Pro Express HD to save the movie file. I saved the file as m4v file. Was able to drag it into the I tunes library but I was not able to drag the file from the library and into the I Pod.
Can I use Final Cut Pro Express to save the right format? How do I get it into my I Pod?

I was finally able to save a movie in FCE and get it in 5g I Pod. I frist saved the file in FCE as a I pod file an m4v. "Export" and then "Video for iPod".
The video is not only exported as a .m4v file
but is also sized correctly for playback on the the iPod (320x240).
Drag the file into the i Tunes library. After dragging the video file to the iTunes library you have to add it to an existing playlist or create a new playlist for it, the same way you do for music. Create a new playlist file, video,and drag it in.
The last step was the part i was missing.
If you manually manage your audio files, you must manually manage your videos. If your iPod automatically updates your audio files, you must choose one of the two automatic update options for video or choose not to update videos.
Open iTunes 6 and drag your new movie file icon to the iTunes library in the Source list. To learn how to browse and view videos in iTunes, click here. Note: iTunes won't let you drag the movie to the Video playlist, but once you drag it to the Library, it will automatically appear in the Video playlist. You can also drag the video file to a playlist you create. I was not able to drag the file from the library to my I Pod which I have heard more than once that you can. So try that.

Saving Video from a Sony Handycam HDD - I'm stuck in iMovie ****!

We foolishly bought a Sony Handycam HDD video camera last year, thinking we could save our movies to DVD using the computer.
I can do it using the laptop we got my daughter for Christmas, but this isn't really feasible. My G4 has iMovie 3.0.3. and even though I recently upgraded to a 2Ghz processor, I still can't install the iMovie I bought with iLife '08 2 years ago.
I need to be able to save files from my Sony handycam to my computer and burn DVDs. Or even if I could just burn them without saving, that would be fine.
I have heard that I need StreamClip from Apple and I see that I need to buy Apple MPEG-2 converter first and then I see in the feedback category for that product, everyone who gave it bad marks was trying to do what I'm trying to do. Then I read somebody recommended Quicktime Pro...
I'm completely confused..and frustrated!!!!
Is there a version of iMovie that will work for me even though I just have a plain old 2Ghz processor?
Would Quicktime Pro or some other software do it for me? I don't mind paying $30 for some software that I'm only going to use for saving movies from camera to DVD, but I'd rather upgrade iMovie if that was possible.

Hey. This is a really good question because I too have run into video problems with mine. After a couple of years I couldn't stand it anymore so I sprung for a MacBook Pro for myself this past Christmas. When I say video problems I mean I can't watch a DVD, a video on the net, etc. It's a pain.
But I still haven't given up on it. Currently it's just used for storage. Did that processor upgrade make any difference for you? I've been looking into that upgrade along with an upgrade to Leopard on the Quicksilver to see if it can handle the video.
We bought a Panasonic video recorder and have a G5 (pardon me but I don't know the processor speed). Even that computer wouldn't recognize the video files stored on the recorder and refused to import them. I called Panasonic and they explained I needed iLife '09. (Currently on the G5 there is '08 and it is running Tiger.)
What you might want to do is a couple of simple upgrades. First the OS to Leopard and then upgrade your iLife to '09. I can say that the camcorder works like it should with iMovie '09 just like the rep at Panasonic said it would.

How do I repeat loop a video file from iPod Touch to Apple TV ?

I have an iPod Touch that is a few years old but running the latest software update. I want to loop a video to then play through Apple TV onto 2 panels at the front of our shop. I have saved the file as a video and Music Video (using Get Info etc) but neither version in the iPod touch will supply the repeat function - it works fine from my MacBook Pro but I cannot leave this in the shop overnight. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated - evern if a third party app that actually works. Thanks in advance, Shaun.

Lost video file from a flash drive using iMac

I played a video file that was saved on a flash drive on my iMac. After the video played, it was automatically deleted from the flash drive. I did not physically delete the file. When I closed the file, it simply vanished. Is there anyway to recover the file?

Thanks for your response. I didn't notice the file in the trash after this occurred. If it was there, it is long gone by now anyway since I've emptied the trash several times since the incident (unless someone has an answer for recovering files that have been deleted from trash?). If it happens again, I'll pay closer attention to what is in the trash and see if this works. Thanks again.

How to take a picture from a video file

Is there a way to take a picture of video clip from the web? I am trying to pull a pic of a video file, a single frame. Is there an app, or a really easy way to crop and save a photo to my library?

Pause the video where you want the clip then use shift+command+4 to get a cross hair selector and drag that across the part of the screen you want to capture, it will be saved as Screenshot_date_time to your Desktop

Does anyone know how I can copy photo and video files from the Photo's app on my Macbook, to a USB stick or other external back-up?

I've updated the software on my Macbook to the most recent version; regretting it now; and iPhoto has now become the Photo's app.
The problem is I can no longer back up my photo and video files taken on my phone, saved to my mac, by copying them and saving them on a USB stick or other external hard drive.
I could easily do this with iPhoto, but now Photos app does not let me copy the files when I select them.
Does anyone know if there's a way to save, copy or back-up my photo's and video files: prefreably one that doesn't involve iCloud, as I don't feel like paying for more storage; there must be some way to access those photos/videos from my iPhone to save on another source?

Select the photos and videos in Photos and use the command "File > Export" and select a folder on your USB stick to save the photos to.

Hi. I’ve set up a web form that uses html and javascript. This particular form lets you upload files. I also have another page that lets you play videos. I was wondering if anyone knows how to make the inner html of for example the upload file form field equal the file that is played by the video player on the other page.
Basically on youtube when you upload a video it automatically makes another page with the video file you uploaded assigned to the video player on that page. I want to know how to go about doing that. So people can upload videos and then be able to watch them instantly without me manually having to create the page an assigning the right file to the page.
Even just knowing how to create a different page each time the form is submitted would be helpful. Thanks.

This is more complex than you realize and JavaScript alone can't do it. You'll need a server-side script like PHP to authenticate and sanitize file uploads to prevent malicious scripts or malware from ever getting to your server. Then, your script will have to process the uploaded file by saving it to a folder or database, give it a unique ID and then redirect users to a new page that pulls the file into an HTML5 or similar player. How good are you with server-side programming?

I'm not sure if the culprit is today's update, but I am having problems importing video files in Kdenlive and OpenShot. When I try to import .MTS / .MKV / .MP4 video files, both programs immediately cease to work.
