Saving your website in iWeb before moving to new project

Hi there!
I have a questions and was wondering if anyone can help me. I've created a website in iWeb, which I've loaded to .Mac. Now I need to start another project and I fear that the new 1.1 update may cause some errors etc with my new project which may influance the already created/ exsisting website that I have in iWeb. My question is this, can I save my work somewhere, somehow so that in anything happens I can always retreave it?
Now, I do know of an option to Publish to Folder, but I don't think there is any way I can take my work from that Folder back to the iWeb to edit it. Or Can I?
Please help.
PowerMac G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Look inside your home folder/Library/Application Support/
You will see a file called Domain. This is the file in which iWeb saves all information. This is the file you need to make a backup of in case anything happens. If you ever want to move your iWeb project to another computer, this is the file that you need to copy over into the same directory.
Might want to make a copy of the iWeb 1.0.1 application itself as well to go along with the 1.0.1 Domain file.

ive followed all the hints on your website i still cannot save any new bookmarks, i have a new mac book pro, worked fine no doesnt save bookmarks, verrrrrry annoying!

    Hi eddpie,
    Welcome to the Support Communities!
I personally would suggest the option to save your iTunes library to an external drive -- because it creates an important backup, and copies the library to your new computer.
iTunes: How to move your music to a new computer
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4527?viewlocale=en_US
    External drive
This option requires more work than Home Sharing, but it creates a backup of your iTunes library on the external drive in addition to moving your content.
Windows operating systems don't recognize Mac OS-formatted disks (HFS or HFS Plus formats). Because of this, you can't use a Mac-formatted iPod or external drive to move your music to a Windows PC.
Mac OS X can read Windows-formatted iPods and drives. This means there are many ways to migrate your information from your old Windows-based PC to your new Mac.
Mac OS X: To be sure external drives appear on your desktop, choose Preferences from the Finder menu. Be sure the options for "External disks" and "Hard disks" are enabled.
Part 1: Locating and consolidating the iTunes Media folder
Part 2: Copy iTunes folder from the old computer:
Part 3: Get iTunes ready on your new computer
Part 4: Back up any music that's already on your new computer
Part 5: Copy music to your new computer
Part 6: Add preexisting music that was on the new computer back into the library
I hope this information helps ....

  • 2 music media folders containing songs, want to combine into one before moving to new Mac.

Hi, I've 2 music folders on my account containing music media, one named iTunes Music, the other Music. One is @ user/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/iTunes Music, the other is @ user/Public/iTunes Music/Music. This is on a g4 fp iMac using os 10.5.8 leopard, and iTunes 10.6.3.. I remember moving the folder iTunes Music/Music to the public folder many years back so as to be available for other accounts. I don't remember how that went except that it must have worked at the time, and probably wasn't used much by other accounts if at all, but has worked fine for me through the years, and now I've this to clean up before moving all the music media, and play lists to the new (to me) iMac, as I want to leave years of hoarded items/clutter behind so I'll be able to function more efficiently.
I'd like to combine all songs into one folder and eliminate any duplicates before moving the music files, and play lists to the newer iMac core 2 duo 2.66 GHz with iTunes 12.0.1.26.. If anyone would be willing to guide me on how to do this, I would be most grateful. What I've been reading on this subject of transferring the media, and play lists to another mac looks to be pretty straight forward. If it wasn't for the two separate folders containing music files I don't think I'd have much of a problem, but I'm unsure of how to proceed, and avoid losing any content other than duplicates.
    Thank you,
    ez

Would manually dragging and dropping files from the folder Music to the folder iTunes Music, but not any duplicate files, be the way to start or is there a simpler way to combine the two? My library isn't large but it would still take some time, and I'm unsure of what would be the result.

  • OS X Creative Suite 6 deactivation issue before moving to new system (motherboard crashed)

    Hi,
I'm running Creative Suite 6 on Mac OSX
Motherboard crashed, bought a new system
I have de-activation to my previous disk ("T"arget mode) from new, but cannot de-activate licensed products before installing on new
How de-activate Creative Suite applications from previous system/disk ?

First, you get two activations. If the second has not been used you are good to go. You can contact technical support and ask to have you activations reset. However, Adobe support may not be available this week. If so, run the software on your new system in trial mode until Adobe support re-opens.

  • Open a saved website on iWeb

    Hello,
I am a total novice with iWeb. I created two websites and saved them under the following directory myname/sites/websites. I would like to go back and forth and be able to edit both websites. But, the last website that I edit always opens up and I can't figure out how to open the first website that I created and saved.
I would appreciate any assistance that anyone can offer.
    Thank You Very Much!

    Edwin,
    There is a difference between:
saving your work in iWeb (File>Save) which saves to the domain.sties file
    and
Publishing to a folder. (File>Publish to a Folder). which publishes an index.html file and a folder with all the html and related files.
When you talk about "saving" a site, it sounds to me like you really mean that you published your site.
(You may have figured this out already, but it sounds like there has been some confusion over these two terms)
Just so we are all on the same page, let me ask you this question. After you created your first site and published it, did you delete all the pages from the iWeb organizer and start over again for the second site?
If so, I'm afraid you are going to have to rebuild the "missing" site. iWeb is not able to read or import the html files it publishes.
iWeb is really designed for you to keep all your sites in one domain file, that is all of them visible in iWeb all the time. So deleting a published site's information from iWeb's main window means you have lost the ability to edit it unless you rebuild it from scratch.
There are ways to keep the data for each site in separate domain files, either "by hand" or using iWebsites. Unfortunately, iWebsites cannot help you if you only have the published pages for one or more of your sites.
Sorry to be the bearer of (potentially) bad news.

  • TS1760 How can I find my back up for my website on iWeb on Time Machine or on G Drive/Slim?

I am on a mid 2007 iMac with OS X 10.6.8. My Time Machine is external as is my G Drive Slim.
I can find my documents and photos in iPhoto on Time Machine, but NOT my website on iWeb.
ALSO, my new G Drive Slim does NOT show ANY of my photos in iPhoto and it only shows the first version of my website...not the current one.
I bought the G Drive specifically because there have been thefts of computers in the neighborhood and I want to have back up of the 5,000 plus photos and data on my iMac. I hide the G Drive after I have finished a back up. But if I cannot find my photos on iPhoto then it doesn't do me much good.....I have to assume if someone steals my conputer they will take the external Time Machine with it. Is the only solution to hide BOTH Time Machine and G Drive?
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, did you backup your last iWeb site before Apple killed iWeb hosting?
As far as finding things on Time Machine...

I created a website with iWeb but use GoDady for hosting it rather than MobileMe. The images on my Gallery page do not show at all on the external domain but they DO show when seen on MobileMe. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Many thanks!

Just create a new page (or use the existing photo page) on your external site and use html to add an iframe sized to the page and link it to the mobilme gallery page. Works for me just fine when showing my gallery from a yahoo site.
    like this
    <iframe scrolling="off" allowTransparency="true" frameborder="0" scrolling="yes" style="width:100%;height:100%;border:none" src="http://gallery.me.com/your_account_name"></iframe>

  • Moved iWeb before MobileMe shut down but need new host, please help

    Hello all,
I successfully moved my iWeb site to a new host before MobileMe shut down and I remember a discussion offering lots of hosting sites that were good and free and some for pay.  I cannot find that discussion or the sites, although I thought I bookmarked them, there was one I even called and they were great but I can't find that bookmark UGHHHH.
So can you all please recommend me your faves and how good their customer service it.  I am using NYPWH.com and have been for years for a site I never changed and now that I have to do some stuff to the new iWeb site, I find they are a little impatient with me, especially as technically challenged as I am.
Thanks so much for the help.
    Gina

Each of the web hosting companies that were mentioned, are unique in their own ways. I just wanted to clear up a couple of things to hopefully give you a better idea of which host might suit you best.
First, godaddy is a powerhouse in the domain registration and hosting department, but what I've noticed over the last little while is a large increase in price. I used to recommend GoDaddy to users who are price senstitive but now I advise against.
The other thing that concerns me about some of the other hosts is that they often offer introductory rates to entice their buyers. Once a user signs up and uses their services for 3 months, 6 months, 1 year, 2 years, 3 years, whatever it may be, the user will often have to pay a much higher rate when that introductory term is over. This is something I personally do not like, and as a consumer, I don't think it's a very fair way to get people to use a service. And the most important thing for an iWeb user, is that these big companies don't really know iWeb very well.
MacMate is more of a MobileMe replacement, and a better option for iWeb users who will want to take advantage of customer support geared towards an iWeb user. I like that they saw a need for a MobileMe replacement and are delivering. Their price is a bit high though, but still in line with the second-term prices of some of the other companies.
Rage software does offer all of the services of an ordinary host. So I think there was some mininformation there. The things I like about Rage is they've been a pretty big part of the iWeb community for many years, so their support team knows iWeb in and out. A quick look at their price shows that they are actually one of the cheaper hosts ($5/month on the 3 year term, no introductory rate or more expensive rate upon renewal). They also provide their well known iWeb SEO Tool software for free to their hosting customers, which is a pretty big bonus in my opnion. Also, take a look at all their videos showing tips and tricks for iWeb users http://youtube.com/ragesw
So to summarize, I'm not really fond of those bigger companies that offer the introductory rates and then jack the prices when the user needs to renew. I like the idea of MacMate, and it seems like a good alternative solution to MobileMe to users who don't mind paying a bit extra to receive similar services to MobileMe. I like Rage because of price, iWeb support, and the free software, so they would be my recommendation. Use Rage software and dropbox if you're a user looking to replace iDisk. It's free, fast, syncs with all your computers, iPads, iPhones, etc.
I hope this was helpful and gives users a better idea about the hosting companies that are out there.

  • HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

HOW TO PUBLISH YOUR WEBSITE ..FROM IWEB ..WHEN I USE TO USE MOBILE ME .. BUT NOW THERE IS NO MOBILE ME BECAUSE OF ICLOUD, AND ICLOUD DOESN'T SUPPORT IWEB PUBLISHING?

When MobileMe goes down the drain, you will need to move your website to standard hosting. Depending on your site size, I recommend A Small Orange, as the Tiny hosting plan they have is big enough for most iWeb sites and much cheaper then shelling out $6 a month for most of the other big names, and if you check out their forum, several of the members have coupon codes in thier signatures. Also, their customer service is great and very fast in getting back to you.
To upload, I publish the iWeb site to a folder, then using Cyberduck upload it to the host. Cyberduck beats iWeb's FTP uploader because Cyberduck only replaces updated pages, instead of uploading the entire site.
    I hope this helps!

    Hi Ralphael,
I was thinking of buying the WD MyCloud box and your words of wisedom inspired me to take a risk, getting one of these for myself. It's always a gamble buying new technology bits and hoping it will do, what you expect it to do.
First thing I did was connect the WD MyCloud to my network (entrirely 1 Gb network capable ports - including router).I updated the firmware to the latest via the network connection, which was reasonably quick to update.
Everything worked perfectly, straight from go,  the 3 Tb of data I had on my former Seagate GoFlex (manually connected to a SATA port on my P.C) only took a few hours to completely copy across.  I tried transferring the wholelot across via the Seagate GoFlex 100mB/s ethernet port, but that was horrendously slow.
I loved the way I could get access to this device, via the internet, (wd2go.com) to the files stored on my WD MyCloud (at home). It indeed acted as a "Cloud" device for me as I could map the connection to a network drive on my P.C and then
copy files across to my P.C (wherever I am) - Just drag and drop from explorer and it's pretty quick to transfer across as well.
I just wanted to say this box is fanatastic and I am very happy with it. I know there have been a few critics out therewho haven't had good things to say, but I think they need to make sure everything fits the criteria for successful results,
which this device is well capable of producing. I had the experience of using a Seagate GoFlex device and that took a while before I got things working reasonably
well for me. It's good to have a device that now well exceeds the capability of this former device.
Very happy with this WD MyCloud and my experiences with it.
    Added Kudos for your article.
    Cheers

  • Lets see your website created on Iweb.

    Hi
I thought that I would start a thread so that you can show people here your website to help inspire them with their own creations.
Here is mine which maybe not the best website in the world, but I have kept it very simple to work mostly as an online portfolio so clients can get an idea of what I do as a photographer.

hello Mireille, thanks a lot for the feedback. I actually tweaked a few things after I read what you wrote. I added easier navigation to the pages, and im still brainstorming the Welcome page but I made it a bit tighter so it can be appealing. i was gonna ask you how are the Film links running. i know on some computers they run a bit slow (maybe just the browser). i still got a lot of work to do on it and things to learn. i hope you enjoy the videos if you get to see them.
    anyways, about your site.
i really like it and im actually surprised you can make a pro-like website like that on iweb. makes me want to step my game up with mine. i love the whole concept and how informative it is, im most likely going to view it for some french lessons one of these days. my only critique would be that it was a bit easy to get lost sometimes, especially if youre trying to explore all your content. also there is a part in your page that has all the words and things in a big mess. i believe it's this link: http://www.mireillegreen.com/French_resources/Vocabulaire.html and then when you click on the grammaire link in that inside box you can see the problem. other than that minor thing, i think its great. thanks a lot and i hope we can keep giving each other feedback.

  • Movement of green circle at the left corner is anti clockwise on connecting any website before moving to clockwise.

Whenever ,i try to connect to a website using Firefox, the Green circle at the left corner of the screen, moves anti clockwise before moving clockwise, which is normal. Thus it takes longer to load a page. Please advive

That is the way that loading indicator is designed to work, it's not slowing anything down. Anti-clockwise indicates it's looking for the web page, and clockwise indicates the connection was mad and downloading the page contents has started.
