Says i downloaded OS X Mavericks but cant install it

So i downloaded os x mavericks but something went wrong so i turned off my computer. i come back the next day to download it again but it wouldnt let me. then when i pressed the free upgrade icon in the app store it pops up as install but when i press it. it doesnt do anything. im really not even sure if i downloaded it to be honest but in my app store purchases it says i downloaded it. please help thanks

If it successfully downloaded, it'll be in your Applications folder.

I just downloaded the new update (which due to my slow internet took about 3 hours). I had my iphone unplugged in as it was downloading. When it finished I plugged it back in, then it started another update download from the beginning.

Note that this issue is usually caused by Firefox not being installed properly, so if it happens again the make sure that Firefox gets installed properly.

ps when syncing it jumps through steps 1 - 4 real fast, i seem to remeber iphone showing the number of tracks transferring and names, but i see nothing? then it sits on 5 saying "waiting for changes to be applied"

Can't believe no one tried to help you. If it is saying it's installed, have you tried to reboot while holding CMD and R together? it'll take you to the partition of Lion that has the install information, try re installing your os after verifying the disk in disk utility (also available after hitting cmd R). Instead of a disk, Lion makes a partition in your main HDD/SSD. The idea is you'll never have to boot from your original CD again.

I downloaded mavericks but the install failed. The message stated there was an error with the disk which required repairing.

Using disk utility repair disk is not available ( greyed out) and verify disk stops and says disc requires repairing. So the online support page suggests I erase the disc and reinstall then back up from time machine ( I have a recent backup). But when I try to erase the Macintosh HD I get the message volume erase failed with the error couldn't unmount disk.
I'd be very grateful for any help anyone can give me.
I have a macbook pro 17" mid 2009- running on snow leopard 10.6.8 ... I lost the snow leopard disk so I don't know what to do from there ... I tried restarting by clicking SHIFT (safe mode) after the chime comes up, but It doesnt seem to make any difference ... please help !!

Whenever you install a new version of OS X being installed, the disk is checked just as if you were using Disk Utility checks the disk to see if the disk is damaged. And,, from what you report, your disk is damaged and needs to be replaced. This isn't a fault with Mavericks - your disk may have been failing for years.
It's a very good thing that you've a recent backup as you're going to need it. I would suggest that you evaluate what functionality that you need in a new disk and go shopping at OWC for a new drive - HGST (or any Hitachi), Seagate SSHDs or Toshiba drives are all good. Be sure that you buy an enclosure for the 'new' drive so that you can format it using Disk Utility before installing it into your machine - you can get one of those from OWC as well.

Why does syncing iCal need Safari Safe Browsing Data? How can I turn this off?

"Safari Downloading Safe Browsing Data" is just some data that is synce with the computer. To turn off on the Mac go to System Preferencs>iCloud and turn off Safari

I've paid $ 3,99 for Xcode for Snow Leopard 12 days ago. After installing Lion I saw there is a new FREE Xcode for it, so I downloaded the new one but after installing automatically Xcode for Lion the Developer folder contained the old one. I deleted the old Xcode but the App Store says "Installed" and don't allow me re-download Xcode.
How can I proceed? I'm guessing whether this problem will occur each time I buy an application from App Store.

Yes, that's righ, Xcode installer was in the Apps folder. I assumed it had been automatically installed and the installer deleted after installation (the same way as Lion is installed).
I tried also the procedure for redownloding applications, and MAS showed both Xcodes (Lion and Snow Leopard) and OS X Lion. We see that buttons for Lion and Xcode for Snow Leopard say 'Install' but Xcode for Lion says 'installed' because there is an Install Scode in the Apps folder.

Is your iPad connected to power ? I think that if you are running on battery and the charge level is below a particular level (maybe 50%, I'm not sure) then it may prevent you installing the update as a precaution so that it doesn't potentially go empty during the install.

When I click on More Details on the pop-up box with the software update, it says that iTunes is downloaded but not installed. How should I resolve this issue? Thank you.
