Says ipod is too old

someone wanted to download my songs on their ipod so we hooked up his ipod and it said to download version 6.0 which we then did. We successfully did this. Then i wanted to to make sure i still have my songs or hatever ao i hooked up my ipod and a message popped up saying that a few of my songs are unable to be updated on your ipod, you need to install version 3.1. So we did. it still said this after everything i did. i was wondering if there was anyway to fix this? Is it that my ipod is different then his (which it is) and if it is fixable. Please tell me how. I am desperate.

Assuming the songs are copyright material, you never know …
If the songs were purchased from the iTunes store, then they have Digital Rights Management protection, and this might be the reason.
However, I think we need more information because it is not quite clear what the problem is.
Are the songs located in your iTunes library on your hard drive, kelsey1?
Can you play the songs in iTunes?
Is your computer authorized to play songs you have previously bought at the iTunes music store? This also may be your problem, that your iPod is not authorized to play purchased music.
Do you need to update your user account information at the iTunes Music Store, if your details have changed since you last purchased music from there?
By all means, update your iTunes and iPod software. This should not render your music files useless.
If you are still having problems with your iPod after exploring these issues, then I suggest trying the 5 Rs which you can find at:
http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
If you openly admit to giving away your music, chances are, someone will probably chastise you for being trading pirated material and will not want to help you.
However, I give you the benefit of the doubt, and I am open to the notion that these may well be tracks you have written and recorded, and that you own the copyright, and that the transfer of files is legal. But tread carefully, my friend.

  • Can't move purchased TV shows to iPod- says software is too old

I purchased some TV shows off iTunes yesterday and it won't let me put them onto my iPod, manually or automatically. It tells me that my iPod software is too old and I should click "update" on the summary window. However, that same summary window is telling me that my iPod IS up to date already, and the update button is shaded and won't let me click it. I've looked for support articles, I've reset it, I don't know what else to do.

I had my iTunes set to manually update instead of automatically update. I decided to try changing it to set it to automatically sync. Nothing amazing happened then, but the next time that I plugged my iPod into my computer, it started syncing, then a box came up that said "a new version of iPod software 1.2.2 (or something like that)". I said YES, download and install! And VOILA! It works! Huzzah! Tell all your friends!
The bad thing of course is that by automatically updating, I lost some of my songs from my old hard drive, but it was worth it.
    Good luck.

  • 2nd gen. iPod -software too old but will not update or restore  HELP!!

Please Help! I've followed all update protocol and itunes 7 is installed, up and running etc, but..
I hook up the ipod and this message appears:
Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "Kit-Ying's iPod" because your iPod software is too old.
I go to the summary tab in iPod preferences and click Update to get the latest iPod software update.
I'm looking in the summary and it says 'your iPod is up to date' (so the update button cannot be highlighted)
The only other option is to click on the "restore" button, which I've done
over and over again... Only to get:
'contacting the iPod software update server'
    And nothing happens.
I cancel and then get this message:
"there was a problem downloading the iPod software for the iPod "Kit-Ying's iPod". The requested resource was not found.
Tried manually restoring the thing and as soon as I hook it up again the
same message appears (software too old etc)
Am I missing something here as I feel I'm going round and round in circles!!
    PLEASE help me!!!

Some of the items in the iTunes library were not copied to the iPod "Kit-Ying's iPod" because your iPod software is too old.
in your "Summary" page, is itunes displaying the correct icon for your ipod?
is a Movies or Photos tab appearing there?

  • HT202879 since updating pages 8 to pages 9 it won't let me open saved files saying they are too old ?

I updated pages 08 to pages 09 but now if i have saved a document and try to open it it tells me the file can't be opened as it is too old. Does anyone know how to fix this ?

You have tried to open a Pages 09 document in Pages 08. You have to be particular about which app you use for which document. Pages 09 will always try to be tha app to open all your Pages documents. The Pages icocn looks the same for both apps.

  • Firefox won't update - tho I have OSX 10.5.8 it keeps saying I have too old an OS. The auto-update for Firefox is greyed out. How can I update?

I have a Mac Powerbook G4, running OS X 10.5.8. I'm getting messages from Google that Firefox is an old version and needs updating - so I went to the Firefox website and the message said that "Unfortunately the latest version of Firefox isn't compatible with your computer's operating system. Learn more." When I click Learn More, it says that Firefox only works with OS X 10.5 and 10.6...The auto-update box for Firefox is greyed out and un-clickable in Firefox preferences, there's no manual download that I can find - how can I make Firefox recognize my OS and allow me to upgrade? Many thanks.

PPC Macs aren't compatible with Firefox 4.0 and later versions.
    For older Macs that aren't supported in Firefox 4 / 5 / 6, try TenFourFox for PowerPC's running Mac 10.4.11 & 10.5.8 . <br />

  • My ipod is too old to download a lot of the apps I want is it possible to upgrade it?

I have an 2008 Ipod touch, but whenever I try to download an app it says that I need the iOS 5 and mine is only a iOS 2 is there anyway to upgrade the tecnology on my ipod? or would I have to buy a more recent one in order to get the more advanced apps?

I wrote an app just for your type of problem,
    Vintapps info/support:  https://www.facebook.com/VintApps313
For a web based method see,
    https://sites.google.com/site/appleclubfhs/support/advice-and-articles/finding-a pps-for-older-devices
Although I wrote my 99 cent app specifically to help solve this problem, I need to add that "I may receive some form of compensation, financial or otherwise, from my recommendation or link."
Once you update your device to the maximum, ios 3.1.3, you will have thousands of apps to choose from.  They will definitively not be the latest greatest though.
Updating the device and passing the older model to another is still the best choice.

  • Itunes says sofware too old on Ipod, will not sync perchased music or video

    Hello
Well after battling this issue for two years since I purchased my 5th gen ipod here is where I stand. MY ipod does have ver 1.2.1 software installed on the unit. this was done on a friends computer with no problem, in fact my ipod seems to be working just fine, just not with my computer in the studio. I have the latest itunes update in stalled on the computer 7.2, But everytime I try and sync My ipod the message appears that "some file were not transferred because the software on my ipod is too old" SO does anyone out there have any suggestions on how to solve this problem that appears to be computer related? My ipod appears to work properly in all other matters: it shows up on the desktop, in itunes, I can drag files to and it will synce any music in itune that was taken from a CD originally. My system is 10.3.9, 1.5 gig ram, G4 dual processor 1.25 Mhz, dual boot with 9.2.2 and the OS 10.3.9.
I have tried trashing itunes and reinstalling itunes but not change has occured. Any one have a more complete way of getting rid of every ipod and itunes related file and drivers?
    thanks

I appreciate the suggestion but these efforts I have done over and over again and there is no change in the behavior between My ipod and my computer. My ipod will function just fine on a neighboors machine; so I am leaning towards trying to resolve the software issue on my MAC g4 itself.
    thanks

  • Latest Software is "Too Old"?

Hi, I recently downloaded a bunch of songs from the iTunes music store, and attempted to copy them to my iPod. My computer informed me that my software was too old and directed me to where I could get the updater.
Now my iPod's software is the most recent available, and my computer still says it's "Too old."
This only effects music store purchases, both old and new, not anything else.
Anyone know how to fix this?

Hi, I have the same exact problem. I have a post on
the other board and the user gave me this site.
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater2006
    0628forwindows.html
I have not tried it because i have not had time. But
you guys can post back and tell me how it goes. I
have a hp ipod 20gb if that makes a difference. This
software is for windows so if you have a mac use this
    link:
    http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/ipodupdater2006
    0628formac.html
I thought it was odd that it told me it was old and
then under the summary tab the update button is not
availible and it says it is up to date.
This appears to be just a link to the most recent iPod updater. If your computer is telling you your iPod is up to date, you probably already have it installed.

  • HT201269 it says that my ipod 4 is too old and wont let it me transfer it

-I just got the 5, and it says my 4 is too old, and wont transfer

    What happens when you try?
If the 4G has iOS 6.1.3 yu will first have to update the 5G to 6.1.3 in order to restore the 5G from the backup of the 4G.

  • I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?

I have a 16GB iPhone 3GS. Tried synching my phone through iTunes (11.0.1 I think... on a 2009 Macbook Pro). Now when I connect to iTunes, it says it does not recognise the content on my phone. Is this because my phone (and laptop) are too old?
Also, when I tried to Restore the settings, an Error Message pops up that says " The iPhone software update server could not be contacted. The requested resource was not found.
I'm trying to free up space on my phone by removing [literally] thousands of old photos which were originally synched to the phone, because I had forgotten to uncheck the photos button when I synched it ages ago.
I have also tried synching it on my 24" iMac (running OSX Snow Leopard). But again, when I try restoring the phone through itunes, it says the file is corrupted. It sggests unplugging the device, and then plugging it in again. I have done this numerous times with no success.
I'm guessing it must be because my phone (and versions of iTunes, and OSX) are all too old.
    Please can anybody help.
    Cheers,
    Dan_nz.

There are multiple reasons that lead to issue. You should read the troubleshooting guide to get the right solution to solve the issue: iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch not recognized in iTunes for Windows - Apple Support

  • Old issue re-emerges: "iPod Software is too old" - but update not available

I found this issue discussed in October 2005, but the suggested fix then doesn't seem to work now.
Today, for the first time, I got an error when syncing my iPod, stating that some music could not be synced because my iPod software is too old. Of course, when I click the update button, it says I have the most recent version. If I try syncing again, I get the same error.
    I have iTunes 7.1.1, and iPod software v. 3.1.1
I've even tried restoring the iPod, but when I try that it says that my iPod cannot be found... which of course is nonsense because iTunes was just syncing with it and it's visible in the Devices list.
    Any suggestions?

Some more info on the problem --
Possibly related, possibly not -- the iPod has also been freezing periodically. Usually it happens while starting up or shortly after. If I put the iPod up to my ear, I can hear the drive whir then click and stop, and repeat. I've found that hitting the iPod can sometimes change the sound the drive makes, but I don't think it ever brought the drive back to life. Getting it back from being frozen seems random but does happen. Usually it was by restoring (before this "iPod Software is too old" problem began). This morning, when I plugged it in to check to make sure it saw the model correctly, it took 3 tries to start up (the first two times it brought up the unhappy iPod image, but then immediately went back to the apple and tried again).
I purchased the iPod refurbished from the apple site a little less than a year ago. It's a Click Wheel, B/W screen... I think that's a 4th generation, but I don't want to misrepresent it.
Should I just take it in to the nearest Apple Store and get their genius bar to look at it? Frankly, I'm stumped.
