Says Java must be updated, when i run software update, no updates

a few programs say that i must update my java to 1.6 from my current 1.5. when i try to run software update, it checks for new updates and says that my computer is up to date. i need to get java 1.6 so please help me out!

Hi vdubin_allday, and a warm welcome to the forums!
Java numbers can be confusing, but Java 1.6 is for Leoprad 10.5.4 or more.
Now there is a Mac OS X 10.4, Release 6 for J2SE 5.0 and Java 1.4 on Mac OS X 10.4.10 and later. This release updates J2SE 5.0 to version 1.5.0_13 and Java 1.4 to version 1.4.2_16.

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Snow Leopard is a paid upgrade, so you can't get it in Software Update.
First, check if your Mac is supported > http://support.apple.com/kb/sp575 Then, buy Snow Leopard > http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
After that, make a Time Machine backup and/or a clone with Carbon Copy Cloner, insert the DVD and upgrade. The disc will upgrade OS X to 10.6.3, so open  > Software Update and install the most recent version

iPhoto just stopped working. It loads pictures, but then goes into rainbow wheel forever. Then I try to force quit it, and then the whole Mac hangs up (had to power cycle it to get it back). I am using OS 10.5.8, and when I run software update, it assures me I have up to date software. I have not added any photos since the last time I used it, probably less than a month ago. What gives?

Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 6* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Roll Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

I keep getting a Networking Error: when i run Software update. i have 10.5.8 and want to upgrade to at least 10.6 or later. i know the network is working perfectly.

Snow Leopard OS 10.6 is not available via Software Update, it is paid upgrade.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:
Requirements for OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard'
    http://support.apple.com/kb/SP575
OS 10.6 Snow Leopard is available for $19.99 from the Apple Store:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
    and in the UK:
    http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
but nobody knows for how long it will be available.
When you have installed it, run Software Update to download and install the latest updates for Snow Leopard.
To use iCloud you have to upgrade at least to Lion, but some functions are only available in Mountain Lion:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759
You can also purchase the code to use to download Lion (Lion requires an Intel-based Mac with a Core 2 Duo, i3, i5, i7 or Xeon processor and 2GB of RAM, running the latest version of Snow Leopard), or you can purchase Mountain Lion from the App Store - if you can run that:

  • HT1338 Receiving Error when I run Software Update in Mountain Lion.

I am receiving the following error when I run software update in OS-X Mountain Lion. The operation couldn’t be completed. (NSURLErrorDomain error -1100.)
Is this a problem with my MBP or is there an issue with the AppStore servers? Is there an alternate way in Mountain Lion to look for updates if the problem is with the AppStore app itself?
    Thank you,

Apparently a server overload > NSURLErrorDomain error -1100
    Try again later.

Why does the App store say 'download' to OSX Mavericks when i have already downloaded the update, and restarted the computer?
I can't find Mavericks icon on the dashboard or launchpad either! Help!

It sounds like you've installed Mavericks.  You can confirm this by clicking on the Apple located at the top left of the screen and choosing "About This Mac" from the menu.  You should see a window appear with the text "Version 10.9.1" near the middle.
If it says "Version 10.9.1", then you've installed Mavericks.  It still says "Download" in the App Store because you can still download the operating system after installing it.  This is useful if you want to download it for a friend, or create a USB boot drive.

  • TS4209 Is there a way to make certain that I have this update? I run software update, and nothing is available, yet the problem persists.

Is there a way to make certain that I have this update? I run software update, and nothing is available, yet the problem persists.

I added this post in response to this parent post: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS4209?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
The parent posts mentions the solution to my problem is the update available when you run software update. However my system is up to date, and I still have the problem.
    Further information:
When I return home from work, and wake my computer, the Wi-Fi indicator shows that it is trying to connect. It fails, and the signal bars show zero connectivity. If I click on the Wi-Fi indicator, the computer then searches for nearby networks, and I am able to select mine. Then it connects.
It seems very clear that the problem is my iMac tries to connect before looking for networks.

  • Software Update no longer runs or lists installed updates :-(

On a 20" and a 24" iMac (both in different locations and with Leopard installed from different discs) Software Update has not run (set to check daily and download updates in the background) since February.
Also on both Macs SU does not list installed updates.
On the 20" iMac I also got an error about no such files or directories when trying to download the new Airport patch. But Airport Utility was able to download and apply it just fine.
SU is very badly broken and as is usual the AppleCare techs have no idea how buggy Leopard is in the real world.
    Regards,
    Jamie Kahn Genet

Reset Ignored Updates is on the Software Update menu i.e. just right of the  Apple Menu.
Again if you don't have any joy then I suggest using Pacifist and your OS X install disc to re-install just Software Update.
As SU seems to be having issues then replacing it should be the easy answer.
    kind regards

  • Can't update to IOS 5.1, says IOS 5.0.1 is the latest software, Can't update to IOS 5.1, says IOS 5.0.1 is the latest software

Since a few hours ago, IOS 5.1 has been released but on both my iPad and my iPhone, it still says that my software is up to date though I have IOS 5.0.1. Both my parents have been able to update, and most of my friends are updating right now. Any help?
I do not use itunes to update, I want to update directly from my iDevice as they are not synced to my computer and everything will be erased.

I don't know if this will be any help to you...we posted the same problem and while I'm searching for answers, I ended up here.  Can't update either, says my 5.0.1 is up to date software (which obviously we know is not anymore).
Tried to turning off, reset settings, wait it out... nothing, nada... I hope some apple genius guy can help us here cuz personally, I would love to download the iPhoto and i'd like to update my iMovie and Pages which i currently can't cuz it needs 5.1.

  • Updates when application is launched V.S. updates in "Software Update"

I'm unsure if the following dialog box I'm getting when updating an application after it's launched is legit or not:
Note: The variables in the image have my actual name.
When I cancel this dialog and then search for updates manually through Software Update, the application doesn't show as needing an update. Does this look/sound normal?
Thanks in advance for any help!

Thank you. I tried that and even gave it a few days to do its thing, but I still get the same results. Remote Desktop, HP Printer, Digital Camera all still appear in "Available Updates", but the same versions appear under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 Days". BTW, I had to manually install the Safari 8.0.4 update because it also wasn't updating.

  • When I click on retrieve update, It continues running and never retreives update, why?

I have never been able to update firefox, because it can't. retrieve the update. When the box appears and click on update, It runs and runs without succeeding. When I have tried to get help with this problem before, there was no response from firefox. What to do????

If there are problems with updating or with the permissions then easiest is to download the full version and trash the currently installed version to do a clean install of the new version.
Download a new copy of the Firefox program and save the disk image (dmg) file to the desktop
    * Firefox 6.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Trash the current Firefox application to do a clean (re-)install
    * Install the new version that you have downloaded
Your profile data is stored elsewhere in the Firefox Profile Folder, so you won't lose your bookmarks and other personal data.

  • Withholding taxes not updated when program run in background

    Hi,
    in a z1 report i do:
      SUBMIT z2
      VIA JOB lc_jobname
       NUMBER v_jobcount
         WITH p_fecha  = p_fecha
         WITH p_file   = v_file_in
         WITH p_e_file = p_efile
         WITH p_client = p_client
         WITH p_test   = p_test
          AND RETURN.
within this z2 report i do:
              PERFORM mrm_invoice_create_call(saplmrm_bapi)     USING     s_rbkpv
                                                           tab_frseg[]
                                                           tab_co[]
                                                           tab_ma[]
                                                           c_rbstat_posted
                                                           space
                                                 CHANGING  invoicedocnumber
                                                           fiscalyear
                                                           return[]
                                                           f_subrc.
              IF test IS INITIAL.
                COMMIT WORK AND WAIT.
              ELSE.
                ROLLBACK WORK.
              ENDIF.
the question is that if i run z1 report online there is no problem but if
i run z1 report in background, withholding taxes are not calculated.
After debugging this is what i´ve found out:
1.- in PERFORM mrm_invoice_create_call(saplmrm_bapi) there is a call to fm FI_WT_POST IN UPDATE TASK
    2.- in FI_WT_POST table WITH_ITEM is updated
i guess this could be due to a delay in updating the table so i´m considering doing a WAIT UP TO X SECONDS.
why is it working in online mode but not in background mode?
    any idea?
    Best regards.

    Hi,
in case someone is interested this is how i solved the question:
    i had badi MRM_WT_SPLIT_UPDAT implemented.
in this badi implementation i had this code (among other checks too):
    CHECK sy-tcode = 'MIR4' OR sy-tcode = 'MIR7'.
this code avoided the background job case.
It seems that In a background job sy-tcode is empty.
so i just needed to add this:
    CHECK sy-tcode = 'MIR4' OR sy-tcode = 'MIR7' OR  sy-batch = 'X'.
and then withholding taxes reappeared again.
(so sad, so true... one day of debugging,  sigh)
    Best regards.

  • Thunderbird updates when i don't want to update?

I have a workstation running XP (a perfectly good O/S - regardless of what Microsoft says) and on which I installed Thunderbird (v2.0.0.24)
For some reason, despite selecting to NOT have automatic updates, Thunderbird keeps automatically upgrading to the latest version (currently 24.4)
I have been using Firefox since the second public offering of v1, and been using Thunderbird since about 5 days after public release. When V3 of Thunderbird was released, i found it caused problems and could not forward or re-send emails in which someone had included emoticons (I don't use them myself, but some friends do). If your forums go back far enough, you may find my complaints I raised at the time. (the problem occurred on every computer I tried it on, so it wasn't that 'my' computer, O/s or whatever was the problem)
Unable to get anyone at Mozilla to address the actual issue, I reverted to using v2.0.0.24, and to the best of my knowledge, the issue is still a problem on new versions. Sometime since then, the whole look of Thunderbird has been changed from the nice 'clean' look of V2, to its current look, which I believe is an absolute mess. Tabs are a great idea on Firefox, but on Thunderbird they are as useful as Microsoft's idea of 'grouping' toolbar icons. It might make it look pretty, but it's bloody annoying for those of us who actually need to do work.
On at least 12 occasions, I have deleted the 'latest' version from my computer and reinstalled v2.0.0.24. Every time, I carefully ensure that automatic updates are disabled. Then, as if by magic, and usually within a week or two, I open Thunderbird to find the latest version staring back at me.
Folks, I am a great fan of Mozilla, and over the years, have encouraged probably hundreds of people to use Mozilla software over the pap offered by Microsoft. Unwanted updates on my computer ranks up there with unwanted bloatware, unwanted spyware and unwanted viruses.
Can anyone offer a solution to this problem? If I am unable to resolve it once and for all, I'll be 'firing' Thunderbird from my life.

    check this:
    * Tools > Options > Advanced > Update tab
    * Automatically check for updates to:
    * remove/deselect Thunderbird
    * When updates to Thunderbird are found options will become greyed out.
    * click on OK to save changes.
