Says "no music" on 8GB ipod

I'm not sure the model I have, it just says 8GB. is a little over 2x3 inch in size, green front and chrome on back. I have an older ipod also.
I did a sync after adding music to my itunes library. Neither of them worked after that. I got the older model to work after a Restore operation but the smaller 8GB one will not recoginize music no matter how many times I restore and try different combonations of checked boxes on the summary screen.
computer is osx 10.4. 11 The ipods have been updated and I am suspecting that the ipod update is not compatable with the older osx I have.
I would not mind , if this is the case, going back to previous ipod version.
The music is there when I do the sync, and is there while connected. if I uncheck the "disc access" box before sync then music is grey, if checked then black and I can play music from it before I unplug it from the computer, but when unplugged the ipod says "no music" and Finder sees nothing but the remaining blank memory. When plugged back to computer itunes sees there is something (in orange on the summary screen) but does not see it as music like it did before the eject operation.
I also tried dragging a song from the itunes music library to the ipod. it worked fine while plugged in but after eject same story as above.
I tried dragging from library to the ipod through the Finder also in both the "recordings" folder and the same folder the folders are in...- nothing.
Any ideas how I can make it work?

  • Itunes says my music files are 6gb, my user/itunes music folder says its 23gb. I am trying to move it from old/new mac with 8gb ipod

I am trying to move my sons  library to his new mac using his 8 gb i pod as a hard drive.....
itunes 9.0.1  says his music files is only  6gb.  But when I go to transfer his itunes folder it says his music folder is 23gb.  I know I can home share transfer but his wireless is down.  Either way I am wondering
    1)  why is Music folder so large compared to my music library?
2.) Can I simply move the 6gb of music and the playlist info etc....using his 8gb ipod?
3.) Can I delete his previous library files ?

No, I have the music I want to move from the laptop to the phone selected. Then I go under file, devices, and try to click sync but it is not available to click.

  • In itunes, when i plug my 16gb iphone in, it says i have 5.8gb of "other" filled on my phone, what is "other" and how do i delete it so i can put more music on

In itunes, when i plug my 16gb iphone in, it says i have 5.8gb of "other" filled on my phone, what is "other" and how do i delete it so i can put more music on

I know by the date of this thread that I'm probably too late to help you but I had the same problem and just figured out what the "other" really was. It is application archives.
I'll explain it if you're curious, if not just skip to the next paragraph. When you sync your device and it is trying to update apps it doesn't want to lose the old app while its doing that. So it uploads an "application archive" zip file. Those files normally get deleted once the sync is over, but If that sync gets interupted you have all those zip files there taking up space.
You don't have to restore your iOS device and lose all your contacts, messages, app data. All you have to do is use a iOS device file browser and delete some old partial apps from incompleted syncs.
I use "DiskAid" or "iFunBox" but you can use any app that can change the files on your device. I'm going to tell you how to do it using DiskAid.
         First download and install DiskAid
Once it's installled open it and plug in your device.
Click on your iPhone/iPod/iPad then on:
              Storage, then
              Media, then
              Application Archives,
Then just delete all thos zip files! (they will usually have weird name such as "com.NameOfTheCompanyWhoMadeTheApp.NameOfTheApp.zip" (Except it would have the name of the company and the app instead.
It won't change anything else on your device. It's perfectly safe.
I hope this helps you as much as it helped me!

  • Why does my 8gb iPod Touch say it is over capacity when transferring songs from my 4gb iPod?, Why does my 8gb iPod Touch say it is over capacity when transferring songs from my 4gb iPod?

Okay So my little sister got a new 8Gb iPod Touch and it says that there is a little over 6Gb of space on it. I guess a little must be used up for formating or the operating system of the device. So that is normal I'd assume. Then she starts to sync her music library to the divice, all of the music that she had on her old 4Gb iPod.During the process it says that she is over capacity by .22Gb? How is that possible? How is it that her entire music library from Itunes and her CDs, a grand total of 700 songs, were able to fit on the 4Gb iPod but makes the 8Gb with 6Gb of usable space (said to be able to hold like 2,000 or more songs) over capacity?! could someone run me through a process to get all the music together so that we can get it set up right. I really have a feeling that somewhere we must have screwed up.
Thank you in advance for any help you can give.

This is really a guess but perhaps it's the factory-installed apps.
You might want to try a system reset.  It cures many ills and it's quick, easy and harmless...
Hold down the on/off switch and the Home button simultaneously until the screen blacks out or you see the Apple logo.  Ignore the "Slide to power off" text if it appears.  You will not lose any apps, data, music, movies, settings, etc.

  • I am trying to put the music from my ipod onto my new computer. After installing itunes and connecting my ipod touch a message comes up saying that my ipod is already synced with another library. What can I do to sync it with a new library?

I recently got a new computer and got rid of my old one. I am trying to put the music from my ipod touch onto my new computer but keep getting a message saying that my ipod is already synced with a library and cannot be synced with more than one. How do I access that library on my new computer and if I can't are their other ways for me to put the music on my ipod into my new computer?

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your iPod manually before syncing, you can restore your device from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your iPod to your new computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your iPod for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.
Music is one way only, from the computer to your device, unless you bought the songs in itunes and transferred your purchases.
There is 3rd party software out there, but not supported by Apple, see this thread:http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2013615&tstart=0

If you have not taken the iPod apart, Apple will exchange it for a refurbished one for $99. You can do it an an Apple store
    - Make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

    Or sent it to Apple

  • HT1349 i have a new pc and when i plug in my ipod it says it must erase all data to sync.  How can i get my music from the ipod to the new computer?

I have a new pc windows 7 and when i plug in my ipod it says it must erase all the data to sync.  How do i get the music from my ipod to my new computer.  The old computer is trashed and files are not available, songs are only on ipod.

One of the reasons why including your iTunes library with your computer's backup is a good idea. Use this link for future reference in this regard.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1751
iTunes includes an option to transfer iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store from an iPod, iPad, and iPhone, but this is for iTunes content that was purchased/downloaded from the iTunes store only.
First you need to authorize your new computer with your iTunes account with iTunes if you haven't already done so.
With your iPhone connected and without syncing, at the iTunes menu bar go to File and select Transfer Purchases From - the name of your iPhone.

Do a reset of everything on your ipod. Then reconnect it and it should work.

  • My ipod says i have no music on it, but when i plug it into itunes, and look under music on my ipod, its all there. NEED HELP ASAP!!!!! all the music came from a computer which i no longer have, so my ipod is the only place where that music is.

This morning, i downloaded about 16 songs to put on my ipod, and i manually dragged them over to my ipod to sync that way (like i always do because the music on my ipod came from a different computer which I no longer have) and on my way to work, i realized my ipod says "no content" under Music. However, when I plug my ipod into itunes and click on the music tab under my ipod name, all of my music is there. What happened and how do i get that music back on my ipod? I need help asap.

You had a glitch and the music files got corrupted. I know of no way to uncorrupt them.
You can try using a computer app like iFunbox
    http://dl.i-funbox.com/
to see if yo can get them from the iPod in a usable file.
Otherwise you will have to re import them to your computer and sync
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • My 40gb can be played but Itunes says it is corrupt.  I want to get the music off the Ipod onto my new computer, old computer died which had all the data on it (crap on my behalf I know)  Anyone know how to do this?

My hard drive is corrupt even though I can listen to the music on the Ipod.  Itunes says it is corrupt so obviously cannot read it properly.  You can hear the disk reader resetting every few seconds preventing the data recovery.
We can see the track listings and playlists which we used for our wedding in 2005 and desperately want them back.
Sadly we lost the hard drive that had Itunes on it with all our music which we dont have a back up of.
Is there anyway it can be repaired and then we get the music off the Ipod and get it back on a new pc....and back it up of course?!!!

From the OP: "My old computer got a virus and when that happened all my music was lost. "
They don't have the music on their computer so they cannot transfer the iTunes folder, from the computer to their iPod and then to the new computer. And if they try to enable disk use on the iPod it will erase all the music that is on it. The method you cited is moving the files in a data format using the iPod as a flash drive. It doesn't work if they are in music format. That is why I suggested Yamipod.

  • My 3rd gen ipod nano is not being read by itunes when I plug it into my mac laptop.  It says "no name" on the mac screen, I lost all my music on the ipod itself.

My 3rd gen iPod nano is not being read by my iTunes on my mac.  When going to sync, the mac screen says "no name". Also I believe I lost all the music on the iPod.  When turned on it says "Welcome" as if it is new.  I tried to copy all my music into the "no name" folder and then sync.  The iPod said it was "syncing".

So does iTunes see the iPod or not?  I couldn't quite understand from your post as you said it wasn't, but then said that the iPod was syncing...

Sync problem - earlier today I updated both iTunes and my iPod Touch. Since then, I have tried syncing the two. The iPod Touch claims that there is no music on the iPod, however, when I connect it to my computer it says my full library is on there. At present, I am unable to listen to songs on the iPod when not connected to the computer. What can I do to fix this?
    Thanks for any help!

    - Have you reset your iPod:
Press and hold the On/Off Sleep/Wake button and the Home
button at the same time for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Next would be to backup your iPod and then restore you iPod from backup via iTunes.

You can only sync everything with your one syncing computer/iTunes library. Yu can:
    - Make this your syncing computer by:
Syncing to a "New" Computer or replacing a "crashed" Hard Drive: Apple Support Communities
    - Use the manual method to copy music and videos from any computer/iTunes library to the iPod. See the manual method included here:
