SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Norton UnEr

Hi all...
I have built a new computer with the following specs:
ASUS P5WD2 motherboard
Pentium 4 650 processor
GB memory
2 300GB Seagate SATA dri'ves
MSI ATI RX800XL PCI-E video card
SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum
WinXP SP2, fully updated
I have installed Norton SystemWorks 2006 and SoundBlaster software. Unfortunately, they are not playing nice with each other.
First, I discovered that the SoundBlaster software affected Norton AV Auto-Protect, as stated here elsewhere on the forum. For my system, I corrected this problem by finding two settings that were turned off after installing the SoundBlaster software. Clicking Options on the main SystemWorks screen, then Norton AntiVirus, you get a screen with numerous checkboxes. Under Auto-Protect, Advanced there is a checkbox for Load Auto-Protect when Windows starts that (again on my system) became unchecked all by itself. I checked this and also checked start auto-protect on the main options menu. All of this seemed to fix the problem.
Second, I cannot use Norton UnErase when two SoundBlaster files are loaded at boot: RcMan.exe and SBDrvDet.exe. With these two files loaded, Norton UnErase is not usable at all. Without these loaded, all is well.
These two files are for the remote control and for the dri've bay controller that attaches to the sound card.
Has anyone experienced this? Anyone know a workaround? Anyone know how I can load these two files and not have issues?
Thanks to all...
George

George,
Try uninstalling all your Norton applications and follow by cleansweep your sound card software/driver. The steps to cleansweep your sound card can be found with this Knowledgebase article SID72. After you have done both, install the sound card driver/application first using the installation CD. Ensure that the sound card is function fine. After which, install your Norton software.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Stereo PCM

#Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Stereo PCM? Hi,
Have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum here and I'm having issues with having no audio when inputting Stereo PCM over Optical Toslink. I tried using both default and internal decoder, but no audio at all. It only works when using passthru/bypass mode. Tried a bunch of stereo inputs and had no audio at all. Is Stereo PCM not supported or what here? The test input streams were PCM two channel 48khz 6bit and 20bit. And Dolby Pro Logic is listed in the decoder tab with Auto, On, or Off. But maybe that isn't the same as Dolby Pro Logic II and that is why there is no audio. Only seems to work with Passthru mode only.

• Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Acid Pr

Hello. I am using an Emachines with 3.3GHz Celeron and .5G RAM and Windows XP SP2. I am trying to record with Acid Pro 6 at 24bit and 44.khz (seems to work with the default audio device - Microsoft Sound Mapper or something like that) but I do not get the I/O options that I have with?the Audigy. I went to Options - Preferences then clicked on the Audio device tab and I tried to switch the audio device?to Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS and I get a message saying that this device does not support that bitrate or sample rate. The only time it will let me switch to Soundblaster Audigy is if I first change to 24bit and 96khz. The problem with this rate is that?it consumes hard dri've space rapidly. Can the Audigy 2 ZS support a 24/44. rate? I am still trying all kinds of troubleshooting. I'm also researching on the Acid Pro forum for info. Any feedback will be appreciated. Thank you. Jeremiah

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Windows 7 problems

Hi there,
Recently upgraded to a new PC and Windows 7, and am gutted that the audio/interface card no longer seems to work. I mean, it works for simple listening duties, but the Line In/Mic, "What You Hear" etc., are all registered as "currently unavailable". I home record a radio show, so I'm in a panic to get the card working properly. I'd have to downgrade to XP.
The current drivers available are listed as working for Windows 7 on the Creative site, not sure they should be up when they don't.
Any sign of a resolution for this, or ideas what I could do?

/ Came up with something of a partial fix for this.
Right click the driver installation file, go to properties, find the compatibility bit and change it to XP, then install.
Most things stayed not working, but the one I really need "Line in 2/Mic 2" now works, thankfully.
Be nice to get all the functionality back though!

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and Ventrilo - Mic / Microphone Prob

Hello,
So I am using Ventrilo and everything is working fine.
I have set up Ventrilo to automatically detect when I am speaking.
It actually has a nice way of doing this, it has a monitor button which shows you numbers relating to how load you are talking into the mic.
This is useful as you can then see what background noise levels are, and set the voice detection above that.
And now we come to my problem:
The levels keep changing. Say in the morning, background levels might be 2 and when I speak it goes up to like 5, so I can set it at three and all is good.
Then for no reason nobody can hear me later that day, so I click monitor and background levels are like and when I speak it goes to about 40.
And this keeps changing throughout the day.
When I open up the Creative volume controls (or "Surround Mixer" ), the record settings on the right hand side are greyed out and I can't adjust it.
If I click the "default button" it stops being greyed out, but the "microphone option" isn't there.
If I use the windows volume controls, I can adjust the microphone levels however.
What I notice is that the windows microphone volume corresponds to the "hardware volume" control within Ventrilo Setup.
The other thing I notice, is when I click "Setup" within Ventrilo, then the recording control on the right hand side of the "Creative Surround Mixer" becomes greyed out again.
Any ideas? I can post Screenshots if needed...
Thanks in advance

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Incompatibility with Norton Anti-Virus Prog

After successfully installing the hardware and software for Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, my Norton Anti-Virus Program quite working (it is part of 2004 System Works). I tried all suggested fixes recommended in the Norton Knowledge Base for this problem but nothing works. There is nothing in the Audigy 2 literature or on the box that says Audigy 2 ZS Platinum is not compatible with Norton but obviously Norton knows there is an issue. What can I do to fix this problem.

Hi all.
Normally I tend to help, but this time the tables have turned and I am looking for help.
My lovely Audigy 2 ZS Platinum PRO sound card was working lovley, no hickups or problems until I upgraded my monitor yesterday.
I have upgraded to a lovely CTX Triniton USB CRT monitor (to replace my old generic 7" monitor).
For some unknown reason EAX console nolonger works. It crashes with an error report.
"AppName: eax.exe AppVer: 2..8.0 ModName: unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset: 0082ce85"
Surround Mixer no longer works either, in fact NONE of the Creative applications work, however the card works in games and music applications.
I am completely at my wits end. I uninstalled ALL of the drivers/applications and deleted the Creative directory. I am using the stock drivers and applications off the CD, but even THEY do NOT work!!!
HELP!!!
I reverted back to my old generic 7" monitor, but the problems still persisted!!
What is going on?
I did a full virus and spyware scan and that found NOTHING!!
Any help and advice would be appreciated.
PS I cannot reformat because I am using a RAID0 array which has important data on it.
Thanks
CTX Triniton USB CRT --> does USB mean, there are USB hub/controller(s) 'onboard' --> how many USB controllers more can be seen on device manager? Some of these may share IRQ with Audigy or its 'add-ons'.
Try to disable all those new USB controllers 'comes with monitor' or turn them OFF (from monitor panel) if it's possible. You can then later apply them easily.
Also, did you install some software bundled with monitor. Thse may have changed some files to newer or older versions. Try re-installing SP2/directX/patches for OS.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum + SPDIF out + GTA San Andr

Hi,
I've recently bought an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and I must say I'm very pleased with it.
I'm using an external audio receiver on witch I can only connect coaxial or optical. I've read the thread about digital connections and I know that its impossible to get surround sound with SPDIF in a game because it doesn't use an audio player (I have an ac3 encoder).
The problem is that GTA San Andreas (witch worked perfectly with my older sound cart (stereo)) plays his sounds as surround sound EAX, witch you all know is useless with SPDIF. The result is surround sound out of my front speakers only. So I'm missing about 70% of all the sounds (No voices, engine sounds, etc)
When I looked in the audio settings in the game I noticed that its impossible to change any settings at all (stereo/surround, EAX, Dolby, etc)...
I've tried many things, like setting my computer to stereo (sound and audio devices). I have even tried to use the analogue socket (only the stereo connection) but nothing seems to work...
Btw, I noticed another weird thing, in the THX console I can't select what speaker settings I have witch I could on an previous install (I had some di'ver probs.) In the console for the speaker settings the same problem but there I can select the option: "synchronise with configuration screen". But when I change the speaker settings there it changes back to 5. at start up....
Who knows a solution to this problem?
Thanks in advance, Thomas Voortman (Netherlands)

You did not install yout drivers correctly.
. Download the latest drivers from the Audigy 4 Pro section.
2. Right click on the downloaded file and select to extract it somewhere.
3. Go within the Folder, and find Drivers subfolder.
4. There should be an executable there. Run it.
5. Select to uninstall your current drivers, and make sure the option "Remove Creative shared files ..." is selected.
6. Restart and install the new driver using the same executable, while also checking the "Overwrite shared files" is selected!
Now you shouldn't have problems with the THX Console. I also had the smae problems and the Enviroments were also missing form the EAX Console. It was because I didn't select that overwrite option.

• Audigy 2 ZS vs Audigy 2 ZS Platinum PCI Card

Is there any differnce between the PCI cards for these two versions of the Audigy 2 ZS product? I have the Audigy 2 zs Platinum and I think my PCI card failed. I want to know if the Audigy 2 ZS PCI card will work as a replacement.

Standard Audigy 2 ZS and the platinum edition have exactly the same PCB,so you can use the standard PCI card as a replacement.
Only the platinum PRO has different PCB.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Front panel issues

Hello there,
I originally had the Creative Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and all was fine. It all worked and the world was happy. I then (won't go into details) managed to damage the card and whilst I still got sound, the front panel and the joystick port would not work. As it was only the card that was broken, I purchased a new Audigy 2 ZS card assuming I would be able to just stick the front panel connector back on and all would be hunky-dory.
As you probably guessed, I am here, so all is not well. Whilst the game port now works, the front panel still does not respond to anything and I am at a loss. Is there some kind of jumper I need to switch or something? What have I done wrong.
All input is more that welcome, thanks...

i am having front panel issues. i think the damage to the card is a potential problem, but i don't think it's the cause for the panel not working. i think something is just seriously wrong with creative hardware. i really don't think pre-sales testing was performed extensi'vely enough. i have had more problems with my audigy 2 platinum in the 2.5 yrs i've had it than a new born baby. to make a long story short, i did a complete upgrade of my system, the only thing i kept was my case and audigy 2 and front dri've bay. i did nothing different than i had before, re-installed windows and everything. everything EXCEPT the front dri've bay works. i do get the red light from the optical out though, so there is power. i don't know what's wrong with this thing. all i can say is: creative you need to get your s**t together, you have as many issues with your sound blaster cards as microsoft has with windows. tech support: you need to do something for once and answer posts that people ask. i posted my question about this problem 7 months ago when it happened, guess how many repsonses i have. ZERO, NONE, NADA, NOT ONE RESPONSE. i don't blame forum users, not everyone knows, i blame tech support b/c you don't respond. i have no clue why, but do something, please.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Channel 3 to 7 resett

I have a Audigy 2 ZS Platinum, and everytime I change the volume through the Creative Volume Control and the remote, my speaker settings channel 0 to 7 will reset to 0, which will kill off my surround sound. It's been happening ever since I downloaded the beta driver (note: I also reinstalled mediasource at this same time because I wanted to get rid of some of the useless plugins I downloaded) but it thought it would be fixed after the official version come out. And I have the newest driver now.
So how do I make it stop resetting channels 0 to 7? It also sets channel 8 at max.

• Audigy 2 ZS Platinum - Weird Crash

Hi everyone,
I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and I am getting a crash in most of my games. The strange thing is I hear sounds repeating when the crash happens. Joint operations doesn't crash the system but the sound freaks out and I am able to select a different sound format from the menu and keep playing.
I am thinking the memory on the sound board may be bad. Is there a utility to test them memory?
The computer does pass all of the direct x tests and for the most part it works. The system will work from min to several hours before a crash will happen. Here are my system specs if you need them...
P4 3.2 Intel
.5GB Ram
Asus P4C-800 Motherboard
EVGA Nvidia 6800 Ultra Video Card
550 Watt power supply

Hi guys
If your computer has any VIA chipset, and if your computer has any of the following problems, then you might need this driver.
The computer stops ("freezes", "hangs", "locks up"), or makes unusual noises when playing sounds.
The computer stops, or files are corrupted, when copying to or from an IDE DVD, CDROM, or CDRW dri've.
Sounds played by the computer are distorted or have a "crackling" noise.
The computer stops when playing 3D graphics or games, especially on an ATI Radeon series video card

There is a patch for VIA chipset and the patch WORKS for me! Try them at - http://www.georgebreese.com/net/software/ Look under "PCI Latency" patch for VIA chipsets. If you do not have a VIA chipset, you could also try the Turbo patch mention at that website.

• Audigy 2 ZS Pl and BF2. Arr

I have an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum and have been having a lot of problems with sound in BF2.
It started a couple weeks ago, my sound would crackle and pop a lot. Then it started making really loud screeching noises. After playing for a few hours the sound in the game would start to lag along with the game a little after.
I was told that these new drivers came out, so decided to try them out.
I uninstalled all my old stuff and ran driver cleaner pro.
Installed the new drivers having high hopes. Everything seemed fine and voice is being heard using the mic.
I start up BF2 and all seems ok. I go in to check my volume in the audio options and IT DOESN'T WORK! I press the start tests and nothing is coming through! I play with all the settings, turning off EAX, using software instead of hardware, minimize the game and check the audio options, Nothing fixes it! I go into the BF2 folder and run the VOIP setup test and that works fine. I tried reinstalling the drivers, and that did nothing.
Also, whenever I enter a server, i get this loud sort of pop/crackle noise right before I start playing.
This is the only thing I have done to change the computer and it was working before. So this has to be the problem.
I tried doing what some wrote on here about replacing the file and that has not done anything.
Anyone else having the same problems and getting tired of this not working?Message Edited by Pennybags on 02-0-2006 0:53 AM

Yes, I had this squealing start after I updated from the drivers from 2003 including on my CD that I got in my Audigy 2 platinum I got around December, the squealing was not so common and only happened occasionally, I thought my speakers were dying or my sound card, I ignored it. Then today I installed the 'brand new' drivers, and the squealing/crashing/losing gunfire sounds (etc.) happens WHENEVER more than 4 or 5 noises are played at once, I figured out what causes it for me. When you throw a grenade it's supposed to deafen you with a high pitched sound, but with the new drivers it doesn't deafen you with that sound it merely stops making the noises it was supposed to deafen (gunshots from your gun). Try it and let me know if you notice the same. I find this problem mostly unrelated to the squealing/screeching, and a new problem with the new drivers. I emailed creative about this today and I hope they fix it NOW.
IT'S SO ANNOYING TO HAVE SPENT MONEY ON A 200$ CARD (00$ REBATE, no wonder why!), and have it not work for the very game it's official partner created. Do any of these companies actually work together or is it just a marketing scam, it was the same for everquest 2 and nvidia, they were the worst pair. What's with this?
I guess next I'll try to install it with the 2003 drivers maybe it'll be less frequent a problem, or I'll switch to onboard sound.
This is the letter I sent to creative BTW:
Purchase Date: 2-20-2005
AMD 64bit 3500+ (Winchester Core)
2.20ghz
024mb Corsair XMS Low Latency PC3200 in 52mb x2
05.005 ASUS
ASUS A8N Sli-Deluxe (nvidia nforce 4)
I upgraded the drivers on my software to your most recent driver for the SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (SBAX_WEBUP_LB_2_08_0004.exe) from your website, released January of 2006. After installing it I had a massi've amount of problem with intensi've applications such as games. For Example: In Battlefield 2, a game made "supposedly" with the collaboration of Creative has massi've crashes and audio scrambling (high pitched SCREECHING sounds, cracking, crackling, whirring, and all manner of garbled and insane sounds), this did not happen frequently with any of the previous drivers (but it did happen month after getting the product).
I am concerned that either your drivers are faulty (which is odd because you are a partner of DICE, the company who produced Battlefield 2 and supposed to Explicitly support that game), or my hardware is faulty/defecti've. Your website does not list previous driver revisions and gives no solution for this problem.
What I have tried to remedy the problem:
. Uninstalled and reinstalled various programs that were having problems (battlefield 2, etc.)
(Problem Persisted)
2. Uninstalled the Drivers and Audigy 2 card and reinstalled the newest drivers availible on your site. (Problem Persisted)
3. Tested my onboard sound card with the problem programs, and my ONBOARD SOUND CARD Works FINE with those programs. Turned off my onboard sound and tried my Creative Audigy z2 platinum card. (Problem Persisted!!!)
Please assist me in this problem, I am dissapointed that my free onboard sound device works better than a 200$ soundcard I bought from your company with programs that your company Creative is officially partnered with, and since it is not the programs causing the problem explicitly for all sound cards, it must be your card.

• Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem confl

I have had modem connection problems so I reformatted the hard dri've and reloaded the OS to get a clean start. Now, I have a conflict with the Audigy Platinum and 56K PCI modem. The sound card works great until I dial-out on the modem - at that point there is either no sound or a high-pitched tone is heard when a sound is played. Also, if I am activly connected to the internet and play a sound, the connection will drop and the modem will refuse to reconnect with various errors (no dial tone or port already open). The only way to reset the sound card and modem is to reboot. If I disable the Audigy card under device manager, the modem works great - connects and reconnects fine. BTW, this is the third PCI modem I have tried, all by different manufactures and chipsets, so I don't think it is a modem problem.
Some system specs:XP Home SP 2Audigy Platinum with the latest production drivers availableUS Robotics 56K PCI modem model #5660AAsus A7N8X deluxe motherboard with on-board sound disabled
The Audigy card is installed in a PCI slot that is not shared, also the Audigy card is using IRQ 5 and the modem is on IRQ using COMM port 3. Everything looks fine under Device Manager (no unknown devices or devices with errors). MSINFO32 shows no device conflicts.
Has anyone seen this before? Any workarounds? Any idea why the Audigy card would conflict with the modem like this?
Thanks,Terry C.

I updated the BIOS to the latest ASUS release, 008, and it seemed to resolve the problem.
