SB Audigy2 ZS Line-in -- -6

Hi,
Is it normal that the line-inputs 2 and 3, limits the signal to -6 db. There's no problem with the Line /Mic-input because I can adjust the recordvolume by the separate knob.
Why are the line 2 and 3-inputs limited to -6 db? Or must there something wrong on my computer?
Thx,
Danny.

Fixed; For some reason, only a reboot was needed..

  • MediaSource Max Bitrate at 100% VBR? Record Sync from Line-

Try as I may I cannot find the max bitrate used by MediaSource (v2.02.06)
in 00% quality variable bitrate mode. The average seems to be about 90kbs
for my recordings (calculated by file size, and displayed by several mp3 players).
The question boils down to this: Will this encoder bump up to 96kbs (or higher)
if called for by the content?
Also, I was trying to use the "Record Sync" function to switch back and forth
between line-in and the encoded stream to compare the sound in real time.
I can only get Record Sync to work from a file loaded into the player.
I'm not ripping CD's or duping MP3's. I'd like to compare the analog
line-in sound to what I'm encoding (almost) on the fly. Can MediaSource
    do this.
    Thank you.

I wonder if one of the Creative Labs folks here could comment on the
capabilities of the MediaSource variable bitrate encoder?
(Or request this info from the developers)
I ran three more tests, and each produced a file with an average bitrate
below 90kbs using Variable Bitrate at 00% quality:
) Ripped CD to wav; played and recorded wave with MediaSource player
    2) CD player lineout to Audigy2 NX Line-In; recorded with MediaSource
    3) Constant amplitide white noise into Audigy2 NX Line-In; recorded with MediaSource
The mp3 files produced by tests 2 and 3 were noticibly lower quality than
the same tests recorded at 320kbs Constant Bitrate.
Am I missing something or is the MediaSource variable bitrate encoder
max out in the low 00kbs range?
Anyone have better experiences with VBR and MediaSource?
    Thanks

there are new non beta drivers out today for the audigy2 zs line.
    does anyone know why/if...
. they don't include the EAX 4.0 ADVANCED HD Driver Update (SBA2_EAX4DRV_0303.exe Released on 9 Nov 2003), thats still a seperate download...
    2. they are "newer" than the beta driver released on april 5th? i know they are newer being that they were just released today, but are they the beta's updated to non beta status or an updated older driver?

so this new package (may 2th 2005) contains the july 29th 2004 update that was a repack of the march 29th 2004 and november 9th 2003 updates, but lists as a requirement the november 9th 2003 update?

  • New 64bit audio console works in 32bit windows

ok, if anyone else is like me, they don't care much for the additional applications from the install cd.
today, new drivers for 64bit and 32bit windows and the audigy2 zs line are out.
i tried, for fun, to install the 64bit audio console and it works fine in 32bit windows. finally a very nice and easy way to set things without the excessi've applications.
now, anyone know if the 32bit drivers released today are newer or older than the beta's released a few weeks ago?

Regarding the "new" drivers, it's not:
"This web download combines the fixes and enhancements from previous driver updates for your Creative Sound Blaster Audigy?2 and Audigy?2 ZS series internal audio device."

Oh, they don't work on the Audigy 2 Value.

  • Line Input Question Audigy2 NX w/ 7.1 Surro

trying to run my 2 channel mixer, which only has RCA (L+R) output, through the "LINE IN". when going from RCA's to Stereo Mini Plug, i only can get one or maybe two of the speakers to work + subwoofer. maybe i need some other type of adapter to get from RCA(L+R) to the LINE IN? cant find any setting on the software that can cure the problem. thanks.

    Hi Jansi.
    Thanks. But still no luck.
    - Service runs under Domain-Account
    - We are not asked for credentials if we connect -> we are coming from localhost
Also in the meantime we updated our database library (lib_dbsl_166-10006351.sar) and Kernel (150 for Basis 7.01).
Just been thinking this could may be a 32-Bit problem -> Server is running Windows 2003 32 Bit.
    Cheers, Tobias

  • SB Audigy2 Value Card and Line

I recently installed this card in a radio studio computer which line-outs to the mixer board and has a line-in feed from the mixer's monitor.
The problem is in the Windows mixer. Turning on the line-in for recording does not receive any input. I have to turn on the line-in from the playback mixer, not the recording mixer. The end result is total feedback when the acti've line (ie: cd player) is brought up to 0db on the mixer board.
Any way so that the line-in is acti've from the record mixer in Windows XP? or do I have to install the extra sound blaster software to make it happy?

If I understand correctly, you're saying that because you have to un-mute Line-in playback, the Line-in is passing through to the Line-outs. If that's the problem you're describing, then my Audigy 2 ZS acts that way too. But in the Creative mixer, if I choose Line-in (included in "Analog mix" for the ZS), the red "+" above REC gives the option to "Record without monitoring," so that the input sound is not passed through to the Line-outs (e.g., speakers). For my A2ZS, the option also is available in the Windows Volume recording controls for Line-in on the Advanced button. See if you have an option like that (it might be worded differently), and if not, you might want to install the Creative applets if you haven't already and see if the mixer offers that option.Message Edited by Katman on 03-09-200605:58 PM

  • MSI K8N Neo2 Plat. + Audigy2 woes

    Hi.
I'm getting the dreaded Machine Check Exception(0000009c) on my rig and it seems no amount of tinkering can get this combo to play nicely, and as I know there are quite a few more of you with the same problem out there(and a lot who DON'T have this problem) I thought it could be interesting to find out a bit more about this.
    My box:
    A64 3500+(newcastle)
    MSI K8N Neo2 Platinum
2x512Mb (Kingston HyperX PC3000...old stuff from my KT333-mobo)
    Audigy 2 (SB0240)
    HIS 9800Pro Ice-Q
+other stuff that  doesn't affect the problem
    Running WindowsXP SP2
I've tried diff bioses (1.2,1.3,1.4b1), I've tried tweaking the pci-latency of the audigy(raising from 32 in steps of 8 to 96) with powerstrip. Tried moving the card to all available pci-slots(the audigy is the ONLY pci-card in my rig, its just the audigy and my 9800 in its agp-slot).
Tried all different driver revs for the audigy, from the one on the included cd up to the latest. Tried changing that pci-clock setting in the bios(hidden setting), to no avail.
I've run memtest86+,windows memory diagnostics and prime95 as well as a few other diagnostic tools from the UBCD for hours on end without any problems whatsoever.(at first I was inclined to believe that the psu might have something to do with this, but I don't believe that anymore, the problem seems to happen to people no matter WHAT psu they use.)
    Facts:
    1. With the audigy2 in place my machine WILL freeze with the 0000009c-error sooner or later(might take hours, might happen in 5 minutes). It does however seem to be related to using the soundcard(just sitting in windows without using the soundcard for ANY sounds keeps the box alive a lot longer than playing BF1942 and using teamspeak)
    2. When I remove the Audigy2 from my system and use the on-board sound the lock-ups stop, no more machine check exceptions.(this isn't a solution, its a workaround)
    3. Some people have the same problem while other people seem to be able to use audigys in their machines.
My guess is that it might be related to what model/version of audigy one has, that earlier audigy/audigy2-cards wont work properly...
So, those of you that have the problem, what model/ver of audigy/audigy2 do you have?
    Mine is a SB0240.(random 0000009C-errors)

    Same card here Audigy2 (SB0240).
I don't remember the error message I got but it was something about a conflict with the nVidia RAID controller. It was right after updating the Creative drivers so I immediatly removed ALL Creative startup programs and services with msconfig. No more problems. It runs great. There is the occassional rare "burp" through the speakers but its no problem.
In "msconfig" uncheck the following under the "Startup" tab.
    CTCMSgo
    CTDVDDet
    CTHelper
    CTsysVol
    SBDrvDet
regsvr32 (no problem so far with unchecking this one. I noticed there's a copy of it in one of the Creative folders. regsvr32.exe is a command line program used to register and unregister object linking and embedding (OLE) controls such as dynamic-link library (DLL) or ActiveX Controls (OCX) files that are self-registerable. This may be necessary to troubleshoot some issues with Windows, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or other programs.
Attention the same filename is used by some spyware programs.)
In fact the only startups I've left running in msconfig are...
    nvraidservice
    NvCpl
    zlclient  (ZoneAlarm)
Next click the "Services" tab in msconfig - check "Hide All Microsoft Services" and uncheck "Creative Service for CD-Rom access".
I guess it should also be added that a couple of days ago my system became extremely sluggish and had difficulty starting up. There were a couple of BSOD's. Pressing on the back of the case near the PCI slots caused the lights to flicker. Uh-Oh! Apparently the Audigy2 card was a little loose in its slot. Reseating the card seems to have solved that problem.

  • Problem connecting external sound device to the line

When I connect my Roland Sound Canvas (external MIDI module connected to the Game/MIDI port) to the line in on the sound card (Audigy2 ZS) but I don't get any sound from the speakers when playing a MIDI file or when recording. When I use sound recorder I can only hear what was recorded during playback. What do I have to do to hear the MIDI audio playing while I'm recording it's
I didn't have a problem doing this with a SoundBlaster Li've Value card.

Any standard mini-stereo jack, like on the end of headphones, should go in all the way. That port is meant for use with headphones, and powered speakers that have the same connector. It is not designed for a special short connector. If your mini-stereo to RCA adapter's plug is the same length as the plug on iPod earbuds, it needs to be inserted all the way.
As a test of the iMac's port, try using a standard set of headphones (or iPod-style earbuds) to see if you get proper sound.

  • Volume level on line-in at 100% but still low sound level when I rec

For many years and hundreds of times I have successfully recorded wave files using a wave editor (Goldwave). I have transferred albums, tapes, and now satellite radio by running stereo cables from my receiver into my line-in on my sound card (using a stereo-to-mono adapter). The volume level on the line-in was always too loud on my old sound card, so I always turned the volume of the line-in down to about 20% and it worked just fine.
Two weeks ago my old sound card fried (don't know the brand - got it from a friend, and I've already thrown it out). I replaced it with a Sound Blaster Li've! 24-Bit. However, using the same configuration (receiver into line-in on card), when I record now the volume level that it records at is way too low. Even when I set the line-in level at 00% the volume that it records at is not even half the level it was with my old sound card set at 20%. Basically, when I record now at 00% on the line-in, the volume level it records at is too low. I have no problem with the line-out level - when I play mp3's or anything else on my hard dri've the volume is crisp, clear, and plenty loud at 40%.
But what is the deal with the low volume recording level? Is there another setting I need to change? Or do I not have the right sound card to do this with? Please let me know if it is a setting issue, or if I just need a different sound card to do this. Thanks.

I've had an Audigy2-nx for a week and have struggled with low
    recording levels as well.
Have you tried selecting "what you hear" instead of "Line-In"?
This gives me about 20% higher input levels.
I gave up on MedeaSource for variable bitrate recordings and
moved to dbPowerAmp. (direct recording to lame-mp3)
Others here mention good VBR recordings with MedeaSource, but
it won't exceed 90kbs (average) on my system.
I'm finally getting decent recordings from line-in.

  • Insipre 5700 Audigy2

Hi there. I've been having a strange occurance with my Audigy 2 and Inspire 5700 5.1 Digital speakers since the last driver patch. When I try to play a DVD my system sound ceases The only way to restore sound at all, is to set the Inspire to "Analog" settings (where I can get 4 channel sound). The strange part is that after the system has been shut down for several hours, and rebooted, the Dgital line will (occasionally) work fine until a DVD Video is tried again. I have:
removed the IntervideoDVD player I was using (thinking it was a corrupted Codec).
Uninstalled the Audigy2 and reinstalled in a different PCI slot.
re-dowloaded the driver package and reinstalled
Tested the SPDIF input of the Inspire 5700 against a Live! 5.1 SPDIF output (with the same patch cord) and found it working.
ensured all connections are correct and snug.
Win XP Pro OS with all SP/Udpates installed.
I still find I'm losing Digital output. Audigy 2 Driver version: 5.2.4.96 Date: /08/2006 Any suggestions would be appreciated. Is there any simple?way to test the Digital DIN output of the Audigy2 itself? Thanks!

Hi Pandur2000 (sorry for my english, i am spanish)
I have 5700 and with my old live 5.1 spontaneously mini din don't work and next day works fine ?
I think is problem with cable and digital din input in decoder, try to clean connectors

  • Creative On-Line Registrat

I have an issue with Creative's on-line registration process. I can't seem to get the applet off my computer without impacting my sound drivers/settings.
Here is some background information. Got a new PC for the holidays that came with a Creative modem. Next I added an Audigy2 ZS and Zen Micro. I registered all the product on-line.
When I removed the shortcut for Creative registration from my desktop, it appears that some of my sound drivers were removed and my EAS was disabled (missing drivers).
I reinstalled the drivers, but of course, the on-line registration shortcut is back.
I find this rather intrusi've......how can I get rid of my Creative registration files without impacting my sound drivers and settings?
    LuvMusic

The link for the Creative registration that's on your desktop doesn't tie into the soundcard drivers in any way. It sounds more like a coincidence, unless you deleted other files aswell.
Deleting the shortcut doesn't delete the registration files, it'll only delete that shortcut, but it doesn't affect any other files.

WDM (and ASIO) driver is allways installed by the Creative driver installer. You may end up to some troubles by 'trying to remove'/'removing' it (eg. WDM drivers) from the system. WDM driver present has normally no affect in software like Cubase SX.
Are you sure you understand what 'are you doing' / 'you need to do' to get Cubase working with your card/drivers? Just install your old/previous drivers using ctzapxx.exe (search this file from installation package). You can remove the present drivers before reinstallation process if old setup does not install over the newer ones.
BTW: Cubase SX/Audigy2 works best with Creative ASIO drivers. So, why not use them?

  • Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 and Audigy2 NX

    Hello everybody!!!!
This is my first post and I would thank if someone could help me. I don't know what is the best way to connect in my laptop in order to enjoy the best sound with dvds and mp3s. The first item (dvds) is ok because I have a RCA cable connection from my Cambridge Soundworks DTT2500 to my Audigy2 NX and I enjoy the DolbyDigital sound this way but with this connection I hear the mp3s in my laptop in a 2 way-speakers, what can I do to hear my mp3s in 5.1 (if there is a better connection among my devices, please let me know)? Thank you very much!

I own those speakers and as someone else pointed out they're not true 5. speakers, they are only true for movies, not for games, even with the adapter, the center channel will not pick it up. I opted for another manufacturer speakers. When that came out, it was top of the line, high tech etc. But only really for movies, I have it hooked up to my DVD player now and that's all it's good for. And when I had it hooked up to my computer all I was ever able to get out of it was 4. with the spdf adapter and connection.
