SB Live! 24-bit External (USB): "Snap, crackle, p

Hi everyone.
I bought SoundBlaster Li've! 24bit External (USB) soundcard for my laptop (HP Omnibook 500) for better sound quality. However, it's only been worse than the internal sound card: whether I'm recording or playing back stuff, I get crackling sounds and especially when recording stuff, the song skips randomly!
I've tried lowering the sound acceleration setting as well as the display card acceleration. No effect. I've also tried disabling other USB devices, I've disabled the internal sound card (from Windows XP).. but nothing that I've done so far has removed these problems. There is nothing wrong with my audio setup (soundcard is connected to a professional mixer that works, so the output devices are not the problem). And I have also tried installing the latest drivers.
Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Hi
This seems to be a common problem with this?box if you look at this forum. I have the same problem with my Acer Aspire laptop and this device. Having had nothing but good experiences with?SoundBlaster products in the past, like?you, I am somewhat dissapointed with their new range.
There seems to be problem with both recording and playback via the USB. I have noticed that the there seems to be an intermittant?drop-out problem during recording, which is them made worse by drop-outs every fer seconds?during playback. Seems like a lot of users have dumped the device as incompatible.
I am still looking at possible tweaks on the USB management as I suspect the recording drop out is down to a bus watchdog interrupting the data stream, but I am not very hopeful of finding a cure. The only good news I can offer is that if you burn to CD, and put the CD in another player it seems to be OK except?for?the original recording glitches.
Good Luck!

;SB Li've ! 24 bit external USB and windows seven blue screen+ hi! i have installed windows seven 64 bit build 7600 RTM on my PC and i wanted to install also my USB sound card which is SB Li've ! 24 bit and i downloaded the beta drivers from creative. instalation was really fast and smooth but at the end i've got a message that the program has stopped to response and i have closed it. i did a system reboot and i have seen that the sound card has been installes succesfull and also the control panel. Sound was clear and really nice, all worked fine but sometimes im getting a blue screen on my windows with a code STOP 0x000000E and then a file named usbuhc.sys was the problem. i think that the sound card is the thing that is doing the blue screen becouse i have only a keyboard, mouse and the sound card SB Li've ! installed as USB.
Is it normal that i have those troubles on my PC ? is it my sound card my windows seven problem ? what should i do now ?
at the moment i have turned off the sound card so i will see if i get a blue screen or not.
    thanks for any reply

How to produce 5.1 sound with logitech z5500 running on iMac 10.5.8 with sound blaster live 24 bit external.

First off your operating system version is obsolete and not being updated for security issues from Apple.
OS X 10.4/10.5 need to upgrade, 10.6.8 ok still
So at least you need to upgrade to 10.6.8, and that will make your machine secure again.
However if you decide to upgrade further to 10.7 or 10.8, be forewarned your PPC based software of old is not going to work any longer. and your machine may require more RAM.
Check here to see and download the free MacTracker to see your machines true RAM potential and specs. There are videos online at YouTube, it's really easy to install yourself.
    http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
I checked out the z-5500, apprantly the optical out shouldn't be a problem, however the surround sound decoding is a problem as the Mac doesn't do it, just passes it through for decoding on a receiver via the optical out port if your Mac has one.
Use the free MacTracker to find out or when you upgrade OS X, there is a option in the System Preferences > Sound.
    https://logitech-en-ap.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9693/section/trouble shoot/crid/409/lt_product_id/224/tabs/1,3,2,4,5/cl/sg,en
The Sound Blaster Live 24 bit doesn't do Dolby 5.1 according to Wikipedia. More info on it is here.
    http://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=1&prodID=10702&pr odName=Live!%2024-bit%20External&CatName=Sound+Blaster
If it's able to accept optical toslink cable from the Mac's toslink stereo mini port (if it has optical output) and then send that to the z-5500 via the analog speakers, then you should be fine.
I'm afraid you'll have to do some more digging to get it to work.
The only surround sound your going to get is by playing DVD movies that have it, then it can't have Dolby 5.1 as the Live 24 bit can't decode it.
So do your research on what surround sound formats the Live 24 can decode, then compare your DVD collection for those movies that have it, then get it all connected and enable it on the movie preferences at the menu.
    Good Luck

  • Traktor 3.3 & SB Live 24-bit External in Windows Vista, Problem sol

Hi!, I'm from Mexico, I'm a dj, ok, few hours ago, I solved the poblem with my SB Li've External in Traktor 3.3 of NI, I use Windows vista in my tablet PC, and when I boutght it, Traktor never show me the 5. channels... I think the problem is with the driver for windows vista, one week ago I recovered my tablet and I install Windows XP, but my AMD Turion 64X2 runs bad the traktor 3.3, today I decided to install my SB Li've in W. Vista, again, And?I decided USE THE XP DRIVER CD, I had't installed any software of music in my PC, only the traktor 3.3, when I?trying to set the Audio COnfiguration in traktor I find one?option in Audio Device: ASIO4ALL v2,?and others options.the most unusual is that de option ASIO4ALL had't show me before. ok but this option allows us to use 8 outs of the SB Li've , & 2 for?front, ....etc. the last 2 outs (7 and 8), I thing that?are for the Digital Output(please confirm me it). I don't know how my?PC detected that option in traktor, I had another SB Li've External, & make the same steps & never show me that. my?NEW SB Li've Ext. I boutght it'stoday, I don't see any?unlike. Fortunately for me?traktor & SB LIVE Ext. runs great in Windows Vista. . maybe the XP Driver CD is new, I don't know! (for these news steps I never install the VISTS Driver CD).
When you configure Ur traktor Outputs, select ASIO4ALL and push the Control Panel button, Traktor will run another windows with many options.
I use this options in my PC (if U recommend me other please tell me):
    Audio Device: ASIO4ALL
    Sample Rate: 4400 hz
Audio Latency: 23.ms (configured in ASIO4ALL control panel)
    ------in ASIO4ALL control panel:
.-Select SB LIVE 24-bit Ext. and clic on enable button. if there are other please disable it.
2.- mark Always Resample at 44. Khz <-> 48 Khz, and force WDM Driver to 6 bit (optional)
    ?clic on exit.
go to output routing, and U will find the 8 outputs.
Note: in ASIO4ALL control panel I see a web page for support, cheak it: www.asio4all.com, maybe U will find more options.
    I hope this hel
    ps.
with my first SB LIve I visit this forum and many people have the same problem. . good Luck! and happy Mixes.

    www.trancemx.com
And Sorry for my bad english jaja. BYE!

ok, in output routing you will find all options to configure your outputs, for the cue?monitors select 2 outputs of the SB Li've, in my setup I have?3 &?4 outputs (C/Sub estereo output), for master I have & 2 (Front), & for Booth 5 & 6 (Rear). maybe your problem is that you have not?deactivated your old sound card, and haven't enable the SB Li've, U can use both at the same time, and get more outputs . U can configure Ur outputs?as U Like, if U use a external Mixer with 2 or 4 channels, select in output routing - mixer mode "External" and send the channels A, B, C & D in a specific?output. good Luck

You should probably just download the trial version of pse 12 and see if you can live with it.
Download a free trial or buy Adobe products | Adobe downloads
That being said, have you tried to install pse 1 on your computer?
How much free space is on your hard drive?
Do you have Internet Explorer 10 or 11?
Pse 1 can run on windows 7 x64, provided certain conditions are met.

  • Sound Blaster live 24-bit external hardward possible quick

i have a?Sound Blaster li've 24-bit external, it worked without any problems, accept slowing my computer down, but i only have 256 Ram and .4 GHZ CPU, so it wasn't a surprise. But then, the clips that hold the USB port in place came loose. They didn't break. They just came loose. The result being that?the port is back inside the card itself. Everything still looks just fine, but i can't get the?USB port to stay still so i can plug the cord into it. So I'm wondering if using a little glue,?or some kind of torch, might harm the device. Because I'm fairly certain the warranty is voided(cause it looks a little ruffed up), and i don't feel like paying shipping, repair, and all that, so i don't want to send it back, but there is a chance that it hasn't. Any advice is welcome. Oh and if any CL people are?reading this, the sound card was magical before the clips came loose, you guys rock!

that problem got fixed, but now there's another. every time i plug it into my computer, it says that 'there has been a power surge on USB hub' and then i have to reset the port and remove the cable. i tried looking on the database, anybody got any ideas?

  • Installation CD for Creative Sound Blaster Live 24-bit External SB0490

    Hi,
I've bought this old external soundcard without the original installation CD, because I thought I can download all needed software here on the creative site. But no, only the drivers and some simple program updates are available :-(. With the creative drivers installed, I only get hacked sound on the digital coax output, SPDIF is also not working correctly. I suppose I have to do some configuration in the creative suite software, but this suite can only be installed from the original installation CD...
Is here somebody who can tell me where I can download an ISO of this CD or perhaps make an upload of it?
    Kind Regards
    Steven

HRe: Sound Blaster Li've! 24-bit External (SB0490) choppy background sound? I've been having the same problem with mine. ?At first, all it would take is unplug the laptop end of the USB, wait a second, then plug it back in. ?A sound (incoming mail, reminder, general Windows sound) had to initiate the sound. ?It's almost like a CD skipping, but the sound played has no bearing on the popping sound. ?It's always the same pitch, timing, etc. no matter the sound that caused it.
I've blue screened a couple of times too over the past couple of weeks. ?I've only been able to catch 'USB' during the blue screen before it reboots, so I don't have a code number to chase down.
I'm using Windows Vista Premium Edition on a Gateway laptop that's about two years old. ?I'm being lazy, and not looking, but I'm pretty sure it's got a .6GHz DualCore proc, I upped the RAM to 2GB, I had to replace the HDD and I honestly don't recall the brand.
It's gotten to the point now that even unplugging and then replugging doesn't really affect it anymore. ?I know that I've updated the driver a couple of times. ?The first time Vista whined about it. ?Going to see if there's a more current version, but I don't really have any further help or suggestions.
    Hopefully something will come up.

  • 5.1 support through SPDIF on SB Live 24 bit extern

Is it possible to get 5. surround out of movies with this adapter?
Do I need an appropriate driver (other than what comes in the box)?
Do I need a particular software DVD player?
    Thanks.

Win2003 is a better WinXP with Server- features and very expensi've. So u will be able to use WinXP drivers on your maybe "illegal" copy of?Win2003. ? You must enable hardware- acceleration in windows audio- configuration tab (even if your soundcards doenst support it) In Win2003 it is disabled by default. Because win2003 is not a toy. HF

  • Sound Blaster Live! 24-Bit External crac

Creative Labs Sound Blaster? Li've!? 24-Bit External USB . (SB0490)?
I've seen plenty of popping/crackling posts and information, but never any pertaining specifically to this card.
I'm posting this for my girlfriend who just recently bought this card. The internal sound card in her laptop was beginning to go out, and soon she plans to build a new computer, so we thought getting her an external sound card would be a good choice as she could easily switch it between her?laptop and computer?once it's built.
Anyway, she recieves a strange anamoly I can only call a pop/crackle particularly while using the input functions of the card. More like what it is though, is it will frequently cut out, then it sounds almost like it's speeding back up to catch up with itself. When hearing her voice come through the input on a program such as Ventrillo, it cuts out frequently, occasionally makes some strange cracking sounds, and then often it will come back through and her voice will come through really fast.
According to her, the problem happens in output as well. I've not heard that myself yet, so I can't describe what that's like. It's very annoying however, is there anything we can do?
The laptop she's using is a Dell Inspiron 900 with nothing extra about it, nothing but the sound card plugged into it's many USB ports.

  • P67A-GD65 (B3) will not boot with external USB DVD connected.

Damnedest thing... just put the build together last night and this was the biggest issue. If I connect my external Samsung USB DVD RW the system stops booting and only displays (B3) in the bottom right corner of my display. If I remove the USB plug the system boots and operates normally. If I connect it to the USB port after boot the system recognizes it and it works fine. The same issue occurs no matter which USB2/3 port I plug it into. I've banged around the BIOS and cannot see any issues in the boot sequence that would indicate an issue. Anyone else in das same boot?

I just came to the forum for the same reason. I'm glad you had a thread already going. Mine is a Seagate 1.5T USB 2.0 hard drive and the screen reads 98 in the lower right corner. Hopefully MSI will get this fixed soon. Other than that the new system is running great.
They are working on it. They sent me a BETA BIOS to try out. The BIOS v1.10B3 was dated 3-17-2011 and it nearly bricked my system though.  Here is the response I sent to them the other night after a few hours with a massive headache trying to bring my system back up:
    Quote
Tried the new BIOS. While it did indeed fix the USB DVD boot issue and let me boot into windows it created a few new issues. After flashing the new BIOS would not recognize my old overclocking profiles from the v1.8 BIOS.. "hole" error. So I manually adjusted all the settings and saved the new settings. I copied them EXACTLY from my previous settings.. I had screenshots which I had printed out as a fool-proof guide. After rebooting I could no longer get into windows. BSOD. If I tried entering the BIOS by tapping the DEL button while booting the system would freeze at the "entering setup...." screen and never progress into the actual BIOS. I unplugged the power, waited a few minutes and held the clear CMOS button on the back panel down for a few seconds. After rebooting I no longer had video output. After much trial and error I ended up having to also unplug my LCD and cycle power on it as well to get video back. But could still bot get into the BIOS by tapping the DEL key during boot. Luckily I have a laptop with all the files on it and I was able to finally re-flash back to the v1.8 BIOS from a USB drive. I'm not sure what exactly you changed.. but I don't think this new BIOS version should leave BETA status.
To their credit they promptly responded the next AM:
    Quote
There were some changes to the CPU voltage, so your overclock settings may not work properly. We are still working on a 1.A release version. It will be updated to our website soon. http://www.msi.com/product/mb/P67A-GD65--B3-.html#/?div=BIOS
I only wish they had informed me of the changes to the CPU voltage up front or included a change log so I could have made an informed decision as to whether or not I wanted to try the BETA BIOS. I was under the impression (mistakenly) that it simply addressed the USB DVD issue. I'll wait for the new release BIOS. I can live without the external USB DVD being plugged in at boot. Bricking my MOBO and having to RMA would be a far less desirable outcome. :p That said.. I'd still recommend this MOBO. It has relatively few issues and MSI support is responsive so far.

  • Sound blaster 24 bit external (cracking)

Hey guys, i've recently reinstalled my 24 bit sound blaster as i noticed there was an update to make it compatible with windows 7. It's kinda working fine but my front left speaker is cracking/sometimes not playing at all. Any suggestions?
Also when i do the surround test my front left speaker is VERY quiet compared to the rest. Thanks

    Hi.
Creative as an Audio Center to download for sb live 24 external soundcard, and they say this application restores the Line in monitoring function (that's what you want).
    But it doesn't work!!!
I had the same issues and here is Creatives support team reply to my emails:
"Our Advance Support Group has confirmed that the Line in Monitoring
feature isn't supported under Vista with Live 24 Bit External.
    Sorry for the inconvenience caused."
So my solution was to give up Windows Vista and install Windows XP on my laptop.

  • New computer, files are on old, external USB HD, can't get LR2 to recognize them

Installed LR2 on my first iMac 2 years ago and set it up so all my photos live on my external, USB drive.  Bought my new computer, re-installed LR2, plugged in my original USB HD and I can't get LR2 to look at the files.
I looked around in the help and deleted my library file from the new computer's HD.  Now when I start up, it asks me
All my photos are on my USB HD (I can see them in Finder) but I really don't want to have to re-import them to LR2 again.
    thanks!
    OS 10.6.7
    Intel i7 iMac

You have to find the catalog that LR worked with before you switched computers.
You see, LR cannot "see" image-files that are on a hard drive unless it has the catalog to go with these images.
For LR to work, you always need two things: the image-files and the catalog (and your previews).
So, where is the catalog? Best way to go about it would be:
Attach the external hard drive to your old computer and open LR. Go to Edit > Catalog Settings > General Tab. Select "Every time LR exits".
Close LR and the backup dialog will come up that lets you choose a back-up location. Select your external hard drive as the location.
When LR has finished the backup, connect the external drive to your new computer. In your OS navigate to the location of the backup and double-click the file with the ending "lrcat".
LR will open with this catalog, and if you haven't changed the location and/or the names of your image-files or image folders it will find the images.
    WW
PS: Make sure that the external hard drive on the new computer has the same drive-letter as it had on the old computer. If it doesn't do the followin:
In the Libarary Module you should see question marks besides your folders. Right-click the folder that is top-most in the hierarchy and point LR to the location of this folder on your hard drive.

  • 24-bit External - Audio glitches in Win 7 x64, Perfect sound in Vista

    I have a Li've! 24-bit external usb soundblaster.
It worked flawlessly with Vista x64 on my HP laptop with AMD chipset.
I only use SPDIF optical out in my setup.
I recently installed Windows 7? x64 on the same machine.Digital passthrough (AC3 or DTS) still works flawlessly. However I now hear regular glitches in my audio on all other audio.By no means unlistenable, but annoying. Much worse when mutitaskin, ie listening to music while browsing the internet.
I have installed the latest Win 7 driver for the card.
Does anyone have any idea how to get around this? It is puzzling, as the hardware and BIOS setup was identical with Vista x64 and I had NO issues.
Any help would be hugely appreciated...thanks!

Jthe answer is: your sampling bit rate needs to be adjusted. increase it until the 'white noise' is totally gone. then your ancient sound card will rock right true. your playback is failing you at the level of replication and is complicated by latency issues too.
I am trying to get this to work with my ableton software and I can't seem to find the updated drivers. now,,,,wherethehell are all the updated drivers for this interface/soundcard?

  • SB Live! 24-bit external: Crackling sound at the start of au

I installed the SB Li've! 24-bit External audio device using the instructions provided, and I ran the automatic update program after installation had finished.
Then I connected my Creative Megaworks THX 2. 250D speaker system to the S/PDIF connector at the back of the SB Li've!.
Now the problem is that when ever any audio playback starts, regardless of the source(games, music, windows media player, youtube), I hear a crackling/popping sound at the start of the playback. The playback it self is clean and sounds very good, but as soon as it ends and I start another audio playback I hear that crackling/popping sound again at the start of the playback.
    What's wrong ?

    Hi Jupiter,
unfortunately we saw this message only today.
The crackles you are getting happen because the original library was developed by Project SAM using a set of samples, and then at the last minute they swapped the sample files with a different set of files without updating the instruments for the changed files.
There are several commercial libraries that unfortunately have this problem, and Project SAM is a known one.
Normally you do not see this problem in Logic, as Logic can see and fix the problem itself silently without teling you anything. When you relink your library with ExsManager, however, Logic thinks the instrument is already ok and will not fix the problem itself.
ExsManager by default will not fix this problem either, because we want the user to be in charge of what is done to his library (i.e. we do not want "magic" to be performed).
It's not a big problem anyway, and you can use ExsManager to fix this:
    -start ExsManager
    -switch to the advanced mode
-click the "Reset settings" button to start from safe settings
-set SampleDir and InstDir as you you need for your library (should already be set as last time you used it)
-switch to the "Options>References page and enable the "Check and fix sample format inconsistencies in instruments" and "Force refresh for all references"
    -click "Analyze"
    -click "Process"
    ... and that's it.
You do not have to do this every time: once the instruments are fixed you can relink as usual.
