SB Live 5.1 to Audigy 2

Currently I've got the SB Li've 5. card, and I just recently bought the Logitech? Z-5300 speakers. Now I'm wondering will there be a noticeable difference if I were to upgrade to the audigy 2 ZS?
Any information would be appreciated.

The SNR on the Audigy 2 ZS is better so you will notice an improvement in sound quality. You'll also have support for more EAX options, and features like DVD audio playback.
What do you use the PC (or sound on the PC specifically) for?

  • Will the live drive from an Audigy work with the Live MP3+ 5.1

i have a li've MP3+ 5., and borrowed a friends audigy plat, but seeing as he will want the card back soon, i was wondering if i could install my MP3+, and connect his li've dri've to it, so when he wants the card back, i just have to remove the li've dri've, will this work ?

i've looked at the card, and it does have the same connection on it for the ide-type ribbon cable as the audigy does.. even has the 2 missing pins on it to make the connector split in 2 ...

  • Using Live! Card with Audigy control head

)I have Audigy 2ZS and Sounblaster Li've ! cards that I bought new, and I have all the Creative OEM software for both.
I have an Audigy control head that came from a used PC that I picked up.
Can the Audigy control head be used with the Li've! card ? If so, which software do I use ?
The input/output pins seem to match, and I have the correct ribbon cable.
    Anyone know about this ?
    Thanks,

    David,
If you go into the surround mixer or Windows mixer do you see a listing for the front panel inputs (line in2/mic in2, Aux 2, etc)? If so, are any of them muted? If you go to start/programs/Creative/SB Audigy/Audio HQ/Device Settings, do you show a headphone tab? If so what options are enabled in there?
Double check your ribbon cable connection and maybe even swap sides of the cable.

  • Creative Live Drive 2 with Audigy 2 C

I bought my Audigy 2 card with some dismay at not being able to afford the platinum edition with its Li've Dri've. Well 2 yeas later Im proud to say I found for ?30 a Li've Dri've 2 bay, that can be used with my card. I eagerly installed the dri've in and booted up. Then i realised that I had no drivers for it. "No matter" I thought "Ill find them on the web". Well 3 days later I have not found them and my ?30 is going to waste and is sitting there doing nothing. I have downloaded the Li'veDrvUniPack and that opens and then says it finds no such creative device and promptly closes. I know this wont fall on deaf ears (eyes?) so thank you for your help.

You need an Audigy 2 or 2 Zs Dri've, but I presume that's just a semantic matter.
I'd suggest contacting CL Customer Support about getting the Software CD for the A2 Platinum as a replacement part.

  • I think I found my problem...SB Audigy

    Hi all
I have been having problems with my system when I enter one of my games...
It runs ok for a while and then suddenly locks up with reboot the only way out.
Previously when running 3D mark the sound would cut in and out on the sound test section and even occasionally it would lock up on the 24bit sound test but my scores were still around 5400 when it completed.
I unistalled the card and reinstalled the drivers numerous times but always the same results. I reset the bios to the defaults and only reset needed things like SATA RAID0 and boot order.
Temps are all good....I ran memtest 86 this morning with no errors at all.
So this morning I decided to disable the SB Audigy and install the drivers for the onboard sound....
I also removed the drivers for my graphics card (9800 pro) and reinstalled them.
Again with all default settings in the bios (1.8) I fired up the system with the onboard sound installed and I could instantly tell the the system had a fast crisp feel to it...
I ran 3d mark and not one problem while it ran...score come up with 5880 that is the performance I thought I should be at.
I re ran the 3dmark 3x and got almost the same score every time.
I then removed the onboard sound and reinstalled the SB Audigy.
Again with default setting in the bios I ran 3dmark....The sound did not cut out but the score was only at 5322 and it froze on one of the tries.
So I believe my system is being happered by the sound card...
anyone have a suggestion for this?
I would like to use a sound card because the onboard sound does not seem to give me 4 speaker outputs...only 2 speaker.
I do have a Turtle beach Santa-Cruz sound card that I could use but before I tried that I thought I would see what all of you think.
Thank you for your input in advance....

    Description:
This patch will try to solve problems with Creative Labs sound cards.
Some recent Creative Labs sound card drivers feature a "turbo mode", which is usually enabled by default. Disabling "turbo mode" will stop the sound cards from making "hissing" or "crackling" noises, but Creative Labs does not provide a way to disable it. This patch program will disable "turbo mode" and thus stop the cards from making noises.
    Before you begin:
The sound card drivers supplied with Windows do not feature "turbo mode", and this patch will not work. You must install drivers from a newer Creative-supplied CD, or download new drivers from http://www.creative.com.
The only cards supported by this patch program are the SoundBlaster Live series and the Audigy series.
    Examples of supported cards:
    SoundBlaster Live! Value
    SoundBlaster Live 5.1
    Audigy MP3+
    Audigy Gamer
    Examples of unsupported cards:
    SoundBlaster 16
    SoundBlaster 16 PCI
    SoundBlaster AWE32
    SoundBlaster AWE64
    SoundBlaster PCI128
Any motherboard or sound card containing Creative chips with part number CT5880
    Instructions for use:
Run the patch program by double-clicking on it. The patch program will look for the Creative Labs sound card's driver information. The program will display one of the following messages.
Cannot find a registry key to be patched. Either the right sound card isn't installed, or the driver doesn't support "turbo mode". The program will stop at this point.
Ready to apply patch. Apply patch now? Answer "Yes" to apply the patch, or No to end the program without patching. If you answer "Yes", the patch will be installed, and you will need to restart Windows in order for the patch to take effect.
Ready to remove patch. Remove patch now? Answer "Yes" to remove the patch, or No to end the program without removing the patch. If you answer "Yes", the patch will be removed, and you will need to restart Windows in order for the patch to take effect.
    Release Notes:
This is the first public version of the patch, version 0.10. It has not been tested on all versions of Windows. It might not work on Windows versions older than Windows 2000, such as Windows 95, 98, ME, and NT 4.0. If it does not work, then the most likely reason will be that Creative Labs is not supporting "turbo mode" in its drivers on these versions of Windows.
If the "turbo mode" setting has already been disabled by a user or another program, this version of the patch will still offer to "apply" the patch.
There is currently no way to save the program's log to a file. This may be addressed in a future version of the patch program.

  • Soundblaster Audigy on MSI K8N Diamond Plus, Sound Linked? vs Audigy2 ZS?

Had a couple of quick questions regarding the Soundblaster Audigy onboard chip on my MSI K8N Diamond Plus.  I have the audio connected to a front panel, and when I try and change the Right or Left speaker volume balance in Windows (by going to volume control and dragging the balance slider right or left), the volume slider goes down and the balance slider snaps back to center.  As in my previous post, I had some damage to my front panel connector pins and wanted to make sure this wasn't a hardware issue requiring a replacement of the board.
Also, I have a Soundblaster Audigy2 ZS card from my previous system, and I was wondering if it added anything the onboard Soundblaster chip doesn't provide.  I was thinking of installing it, but if the onboard audio does everything the card would, I'd rather just use the onboard solution.
    Thanks.

  • New Creative Audigy cards

Has anyone tried the new Creative Audigy cards, the specs on the PlatinumXL look good for the price, I really like the idea of the breakout box.
Any input would be apreciated, the review I read did not say anything about W2K drivers or compatibility.
    Thanx

    alleycat:
    quote:
So you can make noise I can't hear? And that you can't record to any media available on the market today? Okay ... so what is your point? If you get near one, make it.
If you are that deaf, then obviously I can't convince you. But plenty of us around here aren't. And you can record 24/96 on Tascam DA45HR's, Mackie HDR 24/96,
any PC equipped with the right soundcard, DVD recorders (yes, they are available and this may be the cheapest option), and there are probably a few more as well.
    quote:
And since the Audigy does 96K 32bit internal processing, I'm still waiting for a point. The internal bandwidth for specialized effects processing is there.
I was talking about the computer's internal 32 bit processing. Many soundcards handle 32 bit bitstreams, which prevents the need for bit unpacking, but the 32 bit floating point processing wouldn't be handled in the card anyway. Most people use FX processing in software, because this is far more flexible than anything on a soundcard, especially for multitrack recording, unless it has oodles of DSP available, as some do (
    not Creative Labs...).
    quote:
And then you compress it down to 16bit for actual recording...
Well. it's downsampled, and the 32 bit float is outputted as 16 bit if you want to write to a CD, but not everybody wants to do that.
    quote:
Making statements about the unit doesn't define a problem with it. Real problems are defined by things that limit real musicians or engineers, not by the lack of some extra bits which aren't usable or audible to humans.
    Look, just because
you can't hear the difference doesn't mean that others can't. And as a bald statement of fact, for
recording, this card is NOT a 'significant' improvement over the Live!. It's a 16 bit 48K card with slightly more attention paid to the analog front end, which was certainly a problem with the original Live!. Oh, yes, 16 bit audio. It has been established for a long time that if you are going to output stuff at 16 bit 44.1K, then you should ideally digitise at a greater bit depth, especially if you intend to manipulate the data. This has even more significance when the A/D converter is on a soundcard in an electrically noisy environment, as you are unlikely to even reach your 16 bit resolution because of the noise. That's certainly the case with the Live! and the Audigy. The reviews claim that the Audigy will average about 90dB SNR when recording, which
at best means that you will only manage to make a 15 bit original. If you lose it at this stage, you'll never get it back. Even most 18 bit cards have trouble with this, and the difference is clearly audible in the end results.
As far as vinyl and recording goes, there seems to be a consensus view amongst the people that do a lot of it that there is significant detail at low levels on a lot of records, and on a higher bit rate and bit depth system, you will be able to capture this with suitable equipment. The argument is that it is then possible to make the best correctly dithered 16 bit recording possible, and still be able to audibly recover the low level signals. I'm not sure how far I personally agree with the dither argument, but if it is true, then you certainly need to be able to digitise at greater than 16 bit depth.
    quote:
Oh my god, a point. Too bad it has no relevance. Show me a single sound card with -90db noise level and clean recordings of high db music in both highs and lows (much more relevant to actual production work) _WITH_ an external patch bay that I can purchase for less than $210 (what I paid for the Platinum EX)
Midiman Delta 44, if you shop around. It's a 24/96 card with a breakout box. Not only that, but you can upgrade the breakout box to an Omni I/O if you want. The spec beats the Audigy hands down for music apps, but not for games, I suspect. I'm sorry, I can't find one as bad as your SNR spec...
    quote:
Yes -- there are a LOT of much better cards, with more inputs, cleaner audio and better noise control. Last I checked they start at $650 and go up from there. Since the only point you even attempted to make was 'value' ... what are you trying to say? Is a pro card a better value for the money than the Audigy? Certainly. Is a pro card within the no-pro's budget? Unlikely.
Well, if you don't mind compromising the breakout box slightly (breakout leads, expansion capabilities, etc.), in the same price bracket there's the Audiophile 2496, Terratec 24/96 card, Hoontech do a range of stuff with breakout and upgrade possibilities, Marian does the USB1 20 bit USB breakout box
much cheaper than the Audigy (rather less facilities, admittedly) and there are any number of cards without breakouts but with improved audio specs at the same price point. Many of the standalone cards are
    significantly cheaper than the Audigy.
I'm quite happy to concede that the Audigy's S/PDIF may be capable of accepting a 24/96 bitstream, if you can provide it, but the rest of the spec is pretty average when you compare it to other 24/96 cards. Creative have also continued to provide support for the soundfont system, which many people find useful as a sampler. But at heart, it's still a games card. Creative knows where their biggest market is likely to be.
As far as insults are concerned, I said that you need to learn a bit more. I also read your other thread, where you said that you'd managed to get 'up to speed in a month', or whatever. I've seen
no evidence that this is the case. Things have changed out of all recognition in the last ten years as far as the practical realisation of recording is concerned. The basic principles have not altered, but just about everything else has.
And they say that sarcasm is the lowest form of wit. You should consider this carefully.

  • Update available for soundblaster X-fi [AC0

As the subject says, is there such thing? I can't find it in the list of updates (with the exact name that is), and wondering if it's out of date of somethin.

[AC00] is a fragment of resource (port ) usage of your soundcard. Not the model name. Drivers are devided into 2 groups: Li've 24bit, Audigy SE, X-Fi EtremeAudio & others (Live! on EMU0K, Audigy non-SE, X-Fi on EMU20K). Check them on official support site.

  • No luck w/WinXP (K7N2-Delta-L)

    Hello everyone,
I'm going nuts with this d*mn board. No matter what I try - (and I'm trying since Saturday now!) I can't get a working WinXP pro (SP1) installalion. The system just keeps retting. :-(
    This is my configuration
    - K7N2-Delta-L (tried w/BIOS 5.0, 5.1 and 5.2)
    - 2*512 MBytes DDR-333 RAM (Infineon 3MY02C16C, Cl2.5)
    - Maxtor Harddisk 120GB (6Y120P0)
    - PixelView Ti4200/128MB/VIVO
    - DVD-ROM Pioneer 106-S
    - PSU TSP-420P4 (28A @3.2V, 42A @5V, 18A @12V)
The following hardware belongs to the computer as well, but was excluded after the first installation failed and thus not part of the last 20 or so tries:
    - RealMAgic XCard
    - Soundblater Live! Platinum (no Audigy!)
    - Promise TX2-100 IDE controller (no RAID)
    - DVD-Writer NEC-1100A
    - CD-Writer TEAC CD-W524E
On-Board Audio was desabled the whole time; for testing purposes, I also disabled Ethernet. Furthermore, I tried reducing the RAM size to one 512MByte stick. In a desperate move, I also repladed the graphics adapter with a VERY old ATI card (RagePro, I think) for some tests.
Regardless of what I tried, I always got one of the following results:
    1. Most of the time, the XP installation never really starts, but hangs at "Setup is starting Windows".
    2. The other frequent outcome is a reset at the very same spot.
    3. Just once, in one of the early tests, I got the system to install Windows XP by selecting "Standard PC" as HAL during installation (via F5). The system could shut itself down anymore, of course; further more the Promise controller didnt work properly, causing XP to reset whenever I accessed the CD-Writer. I then tried to replace/update the driver - which resulted in a hanging system. After the next reset, the system didn't boot anymore, resetting itself before the login screen comes up - regardless of what I select for booting, e.g. "Start normally", "Safe more", "Safe more with Network", "Last good config". All the same, every time a reset without any notice whatsoever.
That's the status Quo - after three days of failing to even install a stable OS, I've run out of ideas.
Can anybody help me out in any way with this board? I'm at the verge of throwing it into the garbage bin. :-(
    Any help greatly appreciated

    Hello again,
wow, many suggestions. Thanks very much; let's try a batch reply. :-)
    Quote
Hes, could you borrow a plane crdrom drive from someone, and try installing with it? I had a new DVDROM drive which had trouble with certain disks. It may just solve your problem
I see what I can do - but AFAIK, no one I know uses plain CD-ROM drives anymore. Plus, I never had any problems installing from DVD-ROMs (or writers) before.
    Quote
No It isn't a CD problem, I had that very same problem w/ my Win XP and I know it was frustrating, it took me about 5 hours just to get setup going. All I did was that I got pretty fed up and I went through the CMOS and started changing random options that I thought could affect installing Windows. Sure enough, when I went back install Windows it worked. I don't know what I did specifically though , but remember, if you want to do the same thing be familiar w/ the jumpers on the board.
That frustration led me to messing with F5 in WinXP installation  :-). As there is a sh*tload of parameters in the BIOS - some of which I don't know at all - I think it's futile just changing anything at random. The odds that I find just what you found are infinitesimal. :-Z
    Quote
Try adjusting the RAM timings. When I tried to boot with the XP CD it kept resetting because my RAM was timed too aggressively.
That one I already tried - I went down as far as:
     - FSB to 100 MHz
     - RAM SPD 1:1 (i.e. 100 MHz as well)
     - RAM settings to 9-3-3-3.0
which didn't change anything at all, I'm sad to say.
    Quote
dont connect any optical devices to a promise card.
it does NOT work no mather what promise says
Well, I tried installing w/o the controller to no avail, but I know that the promise Ultra100 TX2 works fine at least with a Plextor CD writer, as that very configuration is running on a backup/restore PC at work for 15 months now. That's why I was using the Promise controller in the first place.
Anyway, if anyone has further ideas: anything is still very highly appreciated.
    Greetings

  • Lost Dolby Digital 5.1 signal

    Soundblaster Live Platinum, DTT2500, PowerDVD6.0
Connected by SPDIF Out from Front (Live Drive)
Somehow i have lost the signal for Dolby Digital Signal 5., I know the AC-3 is working and i hear my DVD's thru the front cable.... I am using XPSP2....and of course, have SPDIF bypass enabled...
is it possible that the decoder part of the DTT2500 burned out?....(as a last attempt, i have ordered the cables to connect from the rear digital outlet i.e. to the nine pin mini-din)...
all speakers work when in the Music mode,,,
i have gotten good use from this combination of Creative products
    (self built computer)

    Jswcpm,
Well, if SPDIF bypass is enabled in both the DVD software and the sound card then the only other thing left to check is the cables. If the new ones fail to work, then it would appear that the decoder has gone out on the DTT2500. If this turns out to be the case there are a few options you can try (and may be surprised at how much speakers have progressed since the DTT2500's). First off things have moved away from the combined package of decoder and speakers in one product. The reason for this is that it gives you a choice in how to combine things. First off you select a set of speakers that fit your requirements. In your case I would suggest either the Inspire T7700 (7.1) or T5400 (5.1) since they are sub $100 speakers that still surpass the wattage and sound reproduction of the DTT2500's. Here are their webpages:
    T7700 - http://us.creative.com/products/prod...3&product=5076
    T5400 - http://us.creative.com/products/prod...5&product=5077
Then you need to select what kind of decoder you wish to use. You can choose to purchase a new sound card that has a built in decoder. This is especially good if you are just needing to decode audio from sources on your computer (no external sources). If this is the case then you need to look at what the speakers you have can do. If you get 7. then you will want at least the Sound Blaster Audigy 2 Value, however the Audigy 2 ZS is probably the option I would suggest (it does DTS and DVD-Audio disks).
    Audigy 2 Value: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...4&product=0653
    Audigy 2 ZS: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...04&product=495
If you have the 5.1 speakers then you will be able to use the Live! 5.1 (not the Live! 24bit or Live! LS) or Audigy LS.
    Live! 5.1: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...206&product=50
    Audigy LS: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...05&product=923
If you want to continue using your current sound card (I wouldn't suggest this as your card is 4.1) then you can use an external decoder like the DDTS-100. This will give you 4.1 in Direct Sound (game and windows audio) and 5.1, 6.1, and 7.1 (with upmix on 7.1 speakers) with DVD movies.
    DDTS 100: http://us.creative.com/products/prod...6&product=9468
I hope this helps you out.

  • KT4 Ultra, Video - Audio Conflict

Doing an upgrade to a KT4 Ultra with VIA KT400 chipset and Athlon XP 1800. System will not boot past POST with the on-board audio enabled or on-board disabled and a PCI audio card installed.  After the card has been removed or on-board audio disabled it boots fine.  I've tried the PCI card in several locations as well as removed the old drivers.  Nothing seems to improve the situation.  Video is eVGA Geforce 4 AGP 4x card.  eVGA tech seems to think it was a problem with the VIA chipset.
    Any thoughts?
    Jim
    KT4 Ultra, VIA KT400, Athlon XP 1800, eVGA Gforce 4 MX440 64mb, (1) 256 Mb RAM, Win-ME

Yeah. Check that sound card. What kind is it? I have three sound cards in my computer right now, in addition to the built in and one USB: Soundblaster Live! Value, SB Audigy Platinum EX and one Zoltrix Nightingale pro 6. No problem. So it's a fault, not a common behaviour. I actually have problems with a SCSI card on one KT4 but no problems with it on another one. So it might just be that the two cards does not like each other. I would have to say that computers are like women: We will never fully understand them, and sometimes they give you trouble for no apparent reason, but when they work as they should, they're hard to beat at what they do!  :D

  • SB Audigy RX EMU Engine Parameters not as good as SB Live!

I have just migrated from an XP system with a SB Live! card (Model CT4870), to a Windows 8.1 Pro 64-bit PC with a SB Audigy RX card. I am very pleased with how it's working out because I really thought I had lost the EMU chip's lush sounds, especially on the reverb side of things.
There is, however, one small problem. I have an effect which applies heavy (I mean HEAVY!) reverb to the sound. I devised it by tweaking parameters from the "Hangar" preset. You can see a copy at http://www.jacobsm.com/MJ_Special_Reverb.Aup
It simply won't import into the EAX studio of the Audigy RX card. It states "Unspecified error". I have worked out what is going wrong. Either the "Reflections Delay" or the "Reverb Delay" parameter is set at 343ms when the Audigy RX seems to only handle delays up to 300ms (the maximum the slider goes to). It is important to me that I can achieve a delay of 343ms in order to get the slap-back echo effect I am striving for. Is there any way of tweaking the RX to accept higher values for the delay? TIA, Graphic

    Hi Jeremy,
I was using Soundstorm on my Nforce motherboard, with the coaxial digital cable to my Logitech z680 speakers. Everything was fine, except for an occasional pop or click while playing games. My DVDs played back in Dolby digital, my games put out sound in 5. surround, and everything worked great.
I got the Audigy 2zs platinum pro to add additional connectivity, get 24-bit sound, and hopefully, clear up those occassional pops and clicks. If I was very lucky, it would hopefully also reduce the overhead for playing multiple sounds during games.
No luck. I've disabled the onboard decoder on the Audigy (now set to bypass), and I first used the digital coaxial cable to go to the SPDIF connector on the back of the control/connector box. The signal was detected as "stereo". Then I used a mono RCA to mono minijack adapter to connect to the digital minijack connector on the box to the z680 via the coaxial digital cable. It was detected as "stereo". Finally, I got a monster digital optical cable, and connected it from the Audigy box to the z680 optical port (it still read the signal as "stereo").
I played with every setting from "synchronize with control panel" to every input setting on the Logitech decoder. Nothing. Either no sound, or stereo.
But if I re-enable the Soundstorm, and hook the coaxial cable to it, it immediately reads it as a Dolby digital signal.
The z680 speakers I have are older models, over a year old, so I don't know if there is some issue there.
Any suggestions would be very helpful, I'm about to write up a review of the Audigy 2zs PP on my web site, and it's not going to be very complimentary if I can't work this out. No other company on earth uses mini-jack connectors for Dolby digital, and I've got to think Creative did this to make it harder to use competitor's speaker systems with the 2zs.
    Thanks.

  • Audigy 1 vs Onboard Live!24 (K8N SLI Platinum)

I decided today to try the onboard sound, after having run with my old trusted Audigy 1 for a couple of weeks. So far I must say that the difference in soundquality when playing MP3 etc. is amazing. It just sounds much "crisper" and the bass is much deeper. I have however not yet tried any games so I do not know how well it does with EAX. Will post an update after some more testing. Currently I have both cards installed, since the software for the Live!24 works well with the Audigy 1 too. I just choose which card I shall use and reattach the cables

Guess I'm lucky.   I've listened very, very closely and I don't have this problem.   Even turned the volume way up and worked with the hard drive in a defragmentation operation, no problems.
Perhaps it's a combination of case, motherboard, harddrive and IDE interaction?    I've got an Enermax EG465P-VE if that helps in any comparison.
I strongly suspect that it is so. I have never had that problem with a stand-alone sound card, when the computer is connected to a grounded outlet. Only with this onboard audio on this motherboard, never on any other.
There is very little in which a case can affect this problem, since most are made of metal, providing an exellent electrical plane for grounding. It is much more possible it is a combination of motherboard, IDE cables and harddrives. I wish I could trace where the "IDE active" signal grounds. If I just had an oscilloscope it would be very easy to trace the problem, but I don't :\
I am pondering how to solve the problem.
Do you use PATA drives, or SATA?
