SB Live! or Audigy 2 ZS optical connectio

Hello.
I am currently building a Win98SE system that I am trying to choose a PCI sound card for. I would really like it to have optical connectors for IN and OUT. I have some questions. If replying, could you please answer all questions, even if the answer is "I don't know?" Thank you.
*** Please note: All of the following refers to PCI cards...NOT external cards. ***
. The following does not look like any Li've! card currently on creative.com. Can anyone tell me what this card is and if it's available any more?
http://www.karbosguide.com/hardware/module7c3.htm
(Compare the above Li've! card to...
http://creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=206&product=035& nav=2)
2. Can someone PLEASE provide a *complete* list of SB cards (Audigy, Audigy 2ZS, Li've!, etc.) that the following optical daughter board will work with?
http://creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=6&product=30
3. Will the optical daughter board work with...

4a. I am very confused about what the differences are between the various 2ZS cards and also the Li've! cards. Can someone point me to a comparison chart?
4b. What are the differences between the Audigy 2ZS, Audigy 2ZS gamer and the Audigy 2 Value cards?
4c. What Audigy or Li've! cards are available WITHOUT built-in firewire?
5. It appears that, to get optical I/O out of an Audigy card requires purchase of
http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=6&product=024
Is this really true?
If so, then Creative, you really should provide a lower cost break-out arrangement. $30 is a lot for someone to spend on such a device after having just purchased a soundcard that may cost less than the break-out box.
Even the $60 Optical Digital I/O II daughter card, combined with an Audigy or Li've! card is more than I wanted to spend.
Thank you very much!

Thanks, Badboy.
But, I'm still confused.
The following quote...
"The Optical Digital I/O card is an upgrade for Sound Blaster? Li've! or Sound Blaster Audigy."
is from the information page on the Optical Digital I/O II:
http://us.creative.com/products/product.asp?category=&subcategory=6&product=30
Another quote from the same page...
"Note: If you have a Sound Blaster? Li've! Value card, check your card to make sure it has an AUD_ EXT (2x20 pin header) connector or a S/PDIF_ EXT (2x6 pin header) connector."
On the same page is a chart that shows what "becomes available" for connectors/ports after installing the Optical Digital I/O II card. This is not helpful to me, however, because of the confusion I have over the different Li've!s and Audigy's that are out there.
I asked my question about the Optical card (question #2)in hopes I could cut through the unknowns and the confusion on my end and get a simple, straightforward answer.
So, again, what Audigy and/or Li've! cards may this Optical Digital I/O II card be used with?
A related question...if I go into my local Circuit City/Best Buy/Compusa/etc. and pick up an Audigy or Li've! card, how am I supposed to know (without opening the box) if the Optical Digital I/O II card would work with that sound card? Is there a model #/prefix or something that would be stamped/labelled on the outside of the box?
I'm not trying to make this complicated. Really.
Thanks again.

  • Audigy 4 Pro Optical In Probl

    Hey everyone,
I've had an Audigy 4 Pro for about a year now and it's an amazing piece of hardware, but I seem to be having some kind of problem.
I recently had an HD cable box put in my room and I want to connect the optical out port on the cable box to the optical in port on the Audigy 4 I/O box. I made the connections and the optical cable is lit and sending a signal, but I'm not getting any sound out of my speakers. I went into the volume mixer and turned on "S/PDIF-In"?and still nothing. Are there any other settings I need to check? I checked some of the other inputs on the I/O box and they seem to work so I don't understand why this one won't. Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.

What seems to be a problem is the I/O box is powered on, but not connecting to the card. The power light is on, but the volume knob isn't doing anything and the extra inputs aren't recognized. I didn't touch any of the cables, and they're all secure so I have no idea what's going on.

  • Sound Blaster Audigy 4 pro optical In probl

Hello, I recently purchase a audigy 4 pro, My current setup is 3 wires(green, black, orange) going from my Logitech X-530 5. speakers to the audigy 4 sound card, from there, the AD_Link and Ad_Link2(firewire) going to the Audigy's External I/O, now when i Plug in any toslink cable from the *Optical In* port to my game system(xbox, xbox 360, dvd player, ps2), there is no sound. but when i use the standard A/v cable(red/white) and plug it into the back of the external I/O(Line IN 3), the sound works. Everything else also seems to be working fine. any idea what could be the problem? also note, that i'm kinda new at this, so sorry if i dont fully understand your reply.

  • Audigy 2 ZS optical

I've searched threads in forums but didn't find any clear answer:
Is the only way to get optical output from Audigy 2 ZS buying "Sound Blaster? Audigy? 2 ZS Dri've Bay"? (http://uk.europe.creative.com/shop/product.asp?prod=588)
Just bought "Creative? Digital I/O Module". My fault that I didn't notice that audigy 2 zs is missing from supported devices

  • Dolby Digital Live for Audigy 2 user

Wasnt this suppose to be released back in August? Has there been any progress? Thanks.

If there is any progress they will tell us . Anyway it can't be so hard to do it as it is a software solution. Maybe Creative decided not to sell DDL for Audigy... Currently you have a reason to buy XFi. If there is DDL for Audigy you'll have almost everything the same as XFi has got (except Crystalizer, but I don't think it is the only reason to update). Anyway I'm using Audigy 4?with?Yamaha amplifier (digital connection) and DDL would be great (for games).

  • Audigy 2 Platinum Optical Out Probl

And interesting problem has started to happen to me. My optical out now randomly (or so it would seem) turns itself on and off again. Music playing, not playing... It seems completely random. Has anyone else had this problem? Any help would be appreciated!?Thanks!Brian

Go through the sound options in windows control panel. ensure your card is listed in ALL aval setup menus.
You may also want to tick the box that states "use only default device" which would be your card,?under sound and audio properties as your sound may be reverting back to Windows default sound driver.
see how ya go with anyway

  • Comparing SB Live 24bit & Audigy Va

    Hi,
I'm looking at these 2 cards and I'm wondering which has better performance? Both seem to have almost the same specifications so what's the main difference between them? Are they WDM or ASIO cards? Also, do they both have on board MIDI synths?

Maybe you could start by donating something
I'm giving you something Creative would never do, so I think I deserve it, don't you think
Doesn't matter if it is $2 or $5.
All these Vista Support Packs prove my knowledge and are true modifications, not like the current Youp Pax crappy releases from a dumb person who doesn't even know how a INF file works.

  • XBOX, Optical-in, Audigy 2 Value, 5.1 Speak

Will the below setup work? Any advice appreciated.
    XBOX > AV Adaptor Optical-Out > 'Audigy 2 Value' Optical-in > Audigy Dolby Decoder > Logitech X-530 5. Speakers > 5. Surround Gaming!!
Also, anything I should be concerned about? e.g. pc crashing, lag, etc.
    Thanks in advance.

  • I CAN'T RECORD INTO CUBASE SX 3 THOUGH MY OPTICAL INPUTS ON THE AUDIGY PLATINUM EX SOUND C

    Hi
Can you tell me how I can get sound into cubase sx 3 via the Audigy Platinum ex optical card? I have an optical output on my seperate mixing desk whic I have linked to the optical input on the card, but I just cannot get any signal into cubase. If I attempt to record using the creative software recorder - it works perfectly! As soon as I turn on cubase sx 3, it just doesn't work. Have you got any suggestions please.

  • Audigy 4 connectio

I just got my new Audigy 4 card.
I had to upgrade from my Audigy 2ZS because it was physically too big to fit in my new case.
Now I've got no sound. I've been using a MINI to RCA and miniDIN cable for digital connection to both my DTS capable receiver (in a different room) and to my DTT 2500 speaker system for gaming.
With this cable I get no sound on neither system.
Which cable do I need to get digital out to both systems and surround for gaming with my DDT 2500 system. If this is impossible. Which speaker system will allow me to do this?
I'dont care if i have to cut, solder or whatever! I just want this to work. So any ideas are welcome!
To sum up what I need:
DVD audio to livingroom via digital coax
2 Surround sound to PC speakers for gaming and music.
3 Both need to be enabled at the same time!

I'm sorry, but that was not very helpful.
....digital connection to both my DTS capable receiver...
Off course DVD-sound works over a digital connection to an external receiver. I'v been watching movies with sound for over a year now on my old SB cards (LIVE and Audigy 2ZS).
Now, my problem is that the pinout of the digital port seems to have changed from the Audigy 2 to the Audigy 4, rendering both sound systems useless. Is there a way to enable both the digital and analogue connections so that I can use the digital connection to the living rooom receiver for media (stero music and surround for movies), and the analogue connections for games?

  • Digital Connection with Audigy 4 and DTS5

    Hallo Everybody

    http://forums.creative.com/creativelabs/board/message?board.id=soundblaster&message.id=46632&vie w=by_date_ascending&page=
Exactly same problems! I emaild the Support and they replied me just trash.
So my base problem and thats in the linked thread above is to get a standard audigy 4 not a pro! optical connected to the dts 5500 er Station.
Please do not tell something of 5channel sound and ac3 and ac3 and ac3 its useless.
Please do not ask me about my system config, all works fine, the audigy4 works fine, my dts works fine and the speaker too. (Ive testet it with the 3 pole minijack connecters of my audigy 4).
So all works, but the opticalDigital connection not. (And i dont want to get 5. sound, i just want to get some sound, at the moment no sound comes out)
se give a statement why optical/digital connections not work on your products.
-Please give a statement why this is that difficult/confused to connect.
And a big bravo to Felix2. I wouldn't stay that cool like you if I get some horrible and wrong answers, especially of a "professional". Maybe you have a solution do get the DTS 5500 and audigy 4 get optical connected?
    Greetings
    Lex

    Lex,
The information I gave Felix2 is not "horrible" or wrong, they are the truth. There is no need to start attacking again, if you are not clear on the information I gave in his thread, ask for more clarification, but do not attack.
If you are having problems getting it set up, it's best to provide some detail on what settings you have changed, how everything is configured, and someone will probably be able to help you.
The start of your post isn't very clear, do you have a standard Audigy 4 or an Audigy 4 Pro? The Audigy 4 Pro does have an optical output on the external dri'vebay, the standard Audigy 4 (just a card) does not have an optical output. You would need to connect through a coaxial input (minijack to RCA, then RCA-RCA).
