SB0220 card questi

Hi,
These questions are not all directly related to the model I've got, but I figured knowing the model was important.
I've got a case with front panel audio support, and was looking to connect my SB Li've! 5. card (SB0220) to the front panel. From my poking around on the web, a lot of people are saying this isn't possible without some hardware modification that I don't really have the time or energy to attempt.
So, I guess that leaves me with a few questions:
. Is there any way I can connect the front panel to the SB0220 sound card I currently own? If so, what would it cost/entail?
2. My motherboard has onboard audio (what the front panel is normally attached to). I'm wondring if there's a way to enable both the onboard audio from my motherboard and the audio from the SB Li've! Audio [9000]. Right now if I go to the control panel and set the default device to the NVIDIA nForce Audio, it disables the SB Li've! card. If I switch to the SB Li've! Audio, it disables the motherboard sound. It would be preferable to have both enabled so that I can plug headphones into the front jack and leave my 5. surround speakers plugged into the SB Li've! card.
There's a checkbox under the Audio tab of "Sounds and Audio Devices" in the control panel that says "Use only default devices" that I've left unchecked, but it doesn't seem to have an effect checked or not. I usually do playback in Windows Media Player, and the "Speaker Properties" tab doesn't seem to have the ability to output to more than one audio device.
3. If there's no way to enable both at once, would anyone know how to throw something into a batch file or something similar so that I wouldn't have to jump to the control panel sound and audio device settings everytime I wanted to switch between my motherboard sound and my SB0220?
I aplogize if there's already a thread opened with a similar question, but I didn't come up with anything when I searched for my problem.
Thanks in advance,
David

Onboard is all you need. So much simpler to use, costs less, will sound just as good.

  • Creative x-fi extreme audio card quest

I have a new HP Pavilion with the creative x-fi extreme audio card. My question is, when I open up the entertainment mode and look at the tabs I don't have any option button for Dolby. How can I output Dolby surround sound? I have Logitech x-30 5. speakers but no option for Dolby output.

I am using HP DVD player. So I set that within the player at SPDIF? I still don't understand why I dont have the option in the creative dashboard. Doesn't the card support Dolby? I am pretty good at understanding all things video but this sound thing really confuses me. I thought SPDIF is for digital optical output to digital speakers? Can I get dolby with 5. analog speakers?

  • ZEN 2B MEMORY CARD QUEST

I have bought a creative Zen 2gb mp3 player a few days ago ( the one with the radio ) and to expand the memory I also bought a 8gb SD card. Now my question is when Iam listening to music from my memory card I cant do anything else , nothing ... Icant surf through other menus , I cant check the other songs to decide what to play next , I cant make EQ settings while the song is playing , ....etc etc etc...just staring at the 'now playing' screen , thats all '.. This seems very odd and very very impracticable to me.? My question is?
; is this the standart procedure of Zen or? is there? something that I am missing ?
Please help me about that . It is important to me because if I cant solve that problem , I will %100 sell my Zen and will buy another mp3 player ...of another brand of course

Wow, a store that won't take back what it sells, even for a store credit's? I know it's of no consolation to you, but in the future, I'd shop elsewhere.

  • My Sound Blaster Live 5.1 Digital won't work with Vista

First off, I wasn't sure whether to put this in the vista or Sound Blaster form so sorry if this is the wrong place.
Anyways. I got a new computer two days ago and just installed my old Sound Blaster li've 5. Digital (model SB0220) card into the new desktop. Vista, the operating system I'm using now tried to find the drivers but failed. Then I tried looking them up on the creative site with the drop down lists but it didn't pull up anything either.
I plan on buying an m-audio 2496 sound card soon but for now I would like to get back to recording and the Sound Blaster card is much better than the stock motherboard audio setup.
If anyone knows of any drivers for this card it would be extremely helpful.

    hmm...thanks.
Well its not that bad really. sound blaster cards are not made for recording audio and so I was going to get the m-audio 2496 card anyways.
I'm just waiting for drivers on that which are supposed to come some time in the 2nd half of 2007.
    Thanks for the info.

  • The new zen (credit card size!!) ..... a few questi

hi just wondering if someone can explain the playlists section to me.
it says in order to create one you must be playing a song and then select add to playlist. when i do select this i have to make a playlist so i do. however when a select add to playlist all the songs in my mp3 are in the playlist automatically?
also is there any speakers you can buy for it and is the clear carry case good or just a bit of plastic?
    thanks in advance

    Not quite.
"All Tracks" is the list of all the tracks(songs) physically available on the player. Tracks that appear in the various categorical lists (like genre, artist, album, etc.) are subsets of all the available tracks that satisfy the selected criteria (e.g. they are of the selected genre, by the selected artist, part of the selected album, etc.). If you highlight a song in the "All Tracks" list and select "Delete Track" from the menu you'll be deleting that track from the player. If you delete an artist from the Artists list you'll be deleting all the tracks by that artist. Same goes for deleting an album or other categorical collection.
"Now Playing" is different. It is just a scratch-pad area of selected tracks. Only tracks in the selected list will be played and shuffled among. This list can contain anything from nothing to the entire set of tracks loaded on the player. Usually it will be somewhere in between, such as the song from one album, the songs by one artist or the specfic songs in one of your existing playlists. When you use the "Remove Track" menu item you are simply taking the track out of the selected music list. It doesn't delete the track from the player (note they used "remove" rather than "delete" to help point out this difference). It also only impacts the "Now Playing" list -- the song will still remain in any appropriate category to which it belongs based on its artist, album, genre, playlist membership, etc.
At any given time the current list of selected music can be saved as a new playlist (or, for that matter, saved to overwrite an existing playlist). To edit an existing playlist you'd start by telling the player to play the playlist (which moves its tracks into "Now Playing" as the selected music list), remove tracks from the selected music list and/or add tracks from the music library on the player via "Add To Selected" and finally save it out again from "Now Playing" using "Save As Playlist" (overwriting the original playlist name).
I hope this is clear. It isn't very complex in practice. It looks more complicated than it is in print. I couldn't even tell you if this is covered in the online docs on the CD that comes with the player; I never loaded nor looked at it either.

  • Please help --- Drivers for SB0220. OEM in liew of retail pa

    Hi all,
This is my first post here, although I have been reading up the posts here regularly to troubleshoot problems with my SoundBlaster sound cards -- and thanks to all of you. I have used a few of them till date, a SB Li've! 5. DE, a SB Li've! (with digital out), a PCI 4. Digital, and even a good old Vibra.
Anyway, my problem pertains to the mystery that surround the so-called OEM SoundBlaster cards and ?Creative's involvement with them -- and of course a "good old" driver issue.
I got my Creative SB Li've! 5. DE card in 2002 (so this way past the "warranty"). This was a box-packed retail version. I don't remember the model number that was marked (number on the right top corner) on it though, but it worked fine -- as long as I used it with the accomanying CD. However, when I tried updating the drivers using the latest drivers from the Creative website, I would get a message that said something like this "No soundblaster card is detected...." Anyway, the software and drivers from the CD worked fine. However, just before the warranty was about to expire, the sound card suddenly stopped working and I returned it the importers/distributors from whom I had purchased it. Incidentally, I li've in India. When I first started looking for this sound card, I could not find it anywhere in the stores, so I had to order it directly from one of the authorized importers for India, Compuage Infocom Limited (www.compuageindia.com). Compuage promptly sent me a replacement with a similar-looking card, but it said "Creative SB Li've!" Those days I did not have a 5. speaker set and I used this card with the default drivers from the OS.
Finally, last month when I got a 5. speaker set (Creative Inspire 5200), I was horrified to learn that this card (the one Compuage sent me as replacement) did not support 5. speakers! On taking a closer look, I discovered that the card was marked CT4830. I looked up the Creative Asia website, and there was no mention of such a card!! Googling confirmed that this was indeed an OEM card. I could not believe that I had been given an OEM card in lieu of my retail card. I wrote back to the importers. They told me that they would replace it with a 5. card (even though it was way past warranty). Well, I sure was glad. I soon received a replacement card and this time it said "Sound Blaster Li've! 5. Digital." (Note: This was not Digital Entertainment and only Digital). The model number is SB0220 (Serial number on the other side = C6SB02294370385Q). Now this card is also supposed to be an OEM card. As luck would have it, I have not been able to install the sound card (using the original CD that I had), or the latest ones for the 5. series of cards from the Creative website -- the card is simply not detected as a Sound Blaster card. It has been a big headache and I feel like throwing it in the dustbin. I talked to Compuage (the importer for India) and the tech guy there insists that it is the "same card." While I am trying to troubleshoot this issue, my questions are:
. How come Creative (I am attributing this to Creative as Compuage is one of only two authorized importers for their products in India) giving OEM cards to their retail customers when giving out replacement cards (warranty replacements)? In fact, this would lead me to believe that maybe Creative itself is retailing OEM cards through their vendors --- could it be true? Is this the reason that so many of us unwittingly end up with these OEM cards from Creative? Is this FAIR?
    2. Secondly and most importantly, how do I solve this problem? Which Creative drivers should I use? I know I can try the KX project drivers and maybe try those from www.driverguide.com -- but what about Creative Drivers -- am I not entitled to Creative Drivers having been an authentic retail customer?
I would really appreciate inputs from everyone, esp., the moderators.
    Thanks in advance.

okay well i tryed the patching method on all of the isos i had after extracting them.
I patched it and it said it was successful. when i ran each successi've setup it still didnt detect any soundblaster hardware.
I also went to compaq and tryed a driver i found there without any luck. Im thinking at this point it is an OEM
Although i still dont understand how you got compaq from the model number, im going to continue looking around their site.
Maybe ill luck out but so far im about to the point im ready to throw this @#$%@%#@$@##@$#@$% thing away lol.
Im looking on driver guide now again. :Sighs This is so aggrivating Normally i wouldnt have bought a card without the drivers but
my wifes the one that got it and she didnt know. Oh well......
You can get the model information from here.
You can also try by installing kX drivers -> if kX package don't get installed, your card may have some problems.

  • Will Graphics Card Help Aperture on Mac Pro?

I've been using Aperture for many years on a variety of Mac hardware. I have 5 or 6 image libraries, ranging in size from 50gb to 250gb. I have no referenced images, do not use "faces" or other CPU-intensive features, and often perform tasks which reportedly improve Aperture performance (deleting caches, repairing/rebuilding libraries, defragging hard drives. deleting prefs). While these tricks often result in a snappy experience on relaunch, Aperture returns to its sluggish ways after a few minutes of work.
My workflow is very simple -- I plug in my camera, download photos to the HD, and then edit them, which consists of adjustments such as exposure, white balance, sharpening, rotating, cropping. I don't do much retouching, red eye, or other fancy editing. Occasionally I use the "external" edit feature to retouch in Photoshop. I shot for many years with a Canon Rebel, 14MP I believe, and recently got a Nikon D800. I am finding the performance going through D800 raw files (not even editing, just flipping through them) unacceptable. For example, if I go to hybrid list/preview view, and press the "down" key 10 or 15 times, by the 5th image, there is a very noticeable lag, and often the display beachballs for 10 seconds or more before it gets to the bottom of the list. Basic tasks such as cropping or rotating often lock the display for long periods of time.
For many years, I blamed Aperture's awful performance on my hardware. I worked on a series of Mac laptops. Although I usually had the latest hardware, they were no desktop. Recently, I bought a Mac Pro with a 3.2GHz Quad-Core Xeon processor, 16GB of ram, an OWC SSD (for the system -- the libraries are on a 7200RPM drive), and a ATI Radeon HD 5770 graphics card. I was dismayed to find out that Aperture is STILL unbearably slow. If I can't simply flip through some photos on a top of the line Mac Pro, what is this program good for?
My question now is, would I see a significant performance gain if I were to upgrade yet again to a faster graphics card, such as the Radeon 7950? I've been reading up on these cards, and it seems like native support is coming in 10.8.3. While I hesitate to pour more money into my quest for a useable Aperture system, I wonder if this would finally show some significant performance gains. I've read conflicting reports from other users who've upgraded the graphics card. Is the advantage mainly for 3D or gaming applications or would this help Aperture too?
Thanks in advance for any replies!

In the past Aperture has been very GPU-dependent. The very best G5 tower would bog on Aperture unless the stock GPU card had been upgraded. I expect current Aperture also to benefit from a stronger GPU but I do not have absolute info on that. And your existing 5770 is not a lame card.
I know 16 GB RAM seems like a lot, but with D800 files and an Aperture/Photoshop workflow you may still be paging out to disk. My Aperture/Photoshop workflow paged out at 8 GB RAM with files 1/3 the size of the D800 files.
You should evaluate whether or not you have adequate RAM:
Look at the Page Outs number under System Memory on the Activity Monitor app before starting a typical Aperture/Photoshop work session and write the number down. Recheck the Page Outs count after working for a few hours and write the number down again. If the page outs change (manual calculation of ending page outs number minus starting page outs number) is not zero your workflow is RAM-starved.
Ignore the pie charts and other info in Activity Monitor because they are often misleading regarding RAM usage. For RAM analysis, count page outs.
If your test shows that page outs increase at all during operation you should add RAM. RAM is dirt cheap and use of additional RAM a very desirable characteristic for an Aperture/Photoshop workflow. If it was me I would double to 32 GB RAM and set PS (PS Preferences/Performance/Memory) to use 16 GB of RAM.
Hard drives slow as they fill so make sure none of your hard drives are overfilled. I suggest 70% full as an arbitrary maximum but even less full is preferable for speed. If your Library drive exceeds 60% full I suggest setting a RAID 0 array on two or more identical drives to get extra capacity and speed. Of course pay careful attention to frequent Library backup.
Some apps like browsers are notorious for "leaking" memory so when doing serious images work keep non-essential applications closed. A SSD drive for boot helps because when apps open in just 3 seconds there is no reason to keep extraneous apps open.
    HTH
    -Allen
P.S. I strongly recommend that original images be fully backed up before importing into Aperture or any other images management application.
P.P.S. Makhe sure you have a properly set PS Scratch Disk assigned on a fast underfilled drive, and empty the scratch disk routinely.
