SB6121 modem & Linksys BEFW11S4 router compatability?

I know it's an old router, but after upgrading my service to 30mbps, I only get about 5mbps even with the direct wired hookup from the router. I get ~25mbps with the router removed, so the modem is working OK. I checked for the firmware upgrade, and I already have the latest installed.
Since this router is a 10/100, I think I should do better, at least with the wired connection (I may have to put up with slower speeds on my wireless connection with the laptop). Is there something I can do to realize the potential of my new ISP account?

You're spending hundreds each year on internet service and now you have a fast service. I think you need a router with a big CPU.

  • Trying to set up linksys BEFW11S4 router to AT&T modem

I just got DSL on Monday and it works when connected directly to my computer.  I tried to set up my router.  Updated the Setup for Internet Connection Type to PPPoE and entered the User Name and Password.  I also updated LAN IP Address to 192.168.2.1.  When I go under Status, the LogIn now says Disable.  I have no idea why it is saying this now.  I didn't update anything else.  Can someone help me?

It's a comman thing. On the old version routers when the Internet Connection is "PPPoE"...The Login Always shows as disable under status tab.It will only show you enable when the Internet Connection will be on "DHCP".

  • Can't connect to my linksys befw11s4

i have an existing wireless router in place at home and all of a sudden one of my laptops can't connect to my linksys befw11s4 router. I can connect my other laptops and desktop with no problems. I have rebooted my router and cable modem several times to no avail. When I look at my connections on my dell inspiron 125 laptop, running vista home premium, it shows up as local access only. I have disconnected it and reconnected with no success. Any ideas?

Open the router setup page, click on the status page and note down the dns1 and dns2 no.On the laptop, assign the static dns under WAN and restart the computer...Now,check.

  • Cascade Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router to a Linksys EZSX16W switch....

I tried to cascade a wireless BEFW11S4 router to a EZSX16W switch but I can't get it to work. When I first connect it goes online for about 1 minute then after that nothing. I loose my internet wan connection. I connected the uplink on my router to the number 1 port on the switch. My modem connection is on the wan port on the router. Plugged everything in and it goes for about 1 minute then I loose connection. Anyone have any ideas on how I can get this working....THANKS

No you don't need to change any settings on your router. The First thing which you can check when you connect the Modem to the Linksys Router and then your Computers without using the Switch are you able to go Online and check if you are getting Disconnected or not.
Modem - Router - Computer ..... and check the Internet Connection.
If your Computers are able to go online, Then you need to connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN Port 1 of the Linksys Router to the LAN Port No.1 on the Switch, Then connect your Computer to the LAN Port 2 of the Switch.  Once you are done with these connections.. Then you need Unplug the Power from Switch, Router and Modem.. Wait for 30seconds and then first plug the power to the Modem... Wait till all the lights are Solid then plug the power to the Linksys Router and then to your Switch.
Now check if you are Online from the Computer connected to the Switch.

  • I recently purchased an airport extreme base station. I want to replace my older linksys wireless router. I had a successful set up but can not get it to talk to broadband modem, I am missing something but what?

I recently purchased an airport extreme to replace my older linksys wireless router. had a successful set up but can not get connected to the internet. for some reason, which I am sure is apparent to others, i am missing some needed info to connect to the dsl broadband modem that I have.  would love some good tips.

    Try this:
Turn off or remove power from the DSL model, the router, and your computer. Wait not less than one minute. Restore power to the modem and wait until the status lights indicate a connection to the ISP. Next, restore power to the router and wait until the status light shows connection to the modem. Last, turn on the computer. Check your Network preferences to be sure they are configured for a DHCP connection and that the router has received a valid IP address (not 169.xxx.xxx.xxx).

  • Connecting a Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear wireless cable modem gateway

I was wondering how i would go about connecting a WRT54GS v2  Linksys Broadband Router to a Netgear CG814WG v2 wireless cable modem gateway. the reason I'm doing this is to get extra modem ports and i was just wondering what steps i would take to make it work correctly.

If you are trying to add WRT to your network to increase the number of ports then, you can cascade linksys router to wireless modem.Connect the Ethernet cable from the LAN port of the wireless gateway to the linksys router  on the Ethernet port. Also,if the ip address of the Gateway is 192.168.0.1 then, change the ip address of the linksys router to 192.168.0.2.Also,disable the DHCP and Disable NAT under Advance routing on the linksys router.Power cycle the network and it will work.

  • Connecting a cable modem, a linksys wireless router and my MacBook?????

So... My cable modem and MacBook work great when connected with an ethernet cable. How the heck do I hook up and configure my Linksys wireless router with my macbook and the cable modem? This seems like a simple setup, but when I hook it up it doesn't connect me to the internet.
    Any help would be awesome!!!!

    Darren,
The best advice I can give is to suggest you post in the right discussion group. This is the group for Apple Pages. You want the MacBook group.

  • Cannot see Mac Mini Server from Internet: DynDNS alias gets thru cable modem to wireless router, not to the Mac Mini. How to configure?

I want to make my Mac Mini Server (Lion) visible to the Internet from my home LAN. I have followed the Lion server install wizards and also set up a dynamic DNS at DynDNS.com.
When I enter the Internet address with the proper alias from a web browser, I get dumped into the admin screen of the Linksys wireless router WRT300N. Hint: the WRT300N provides DHCP for the LAN, not the cable modem providing DHCP. The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled. The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved.
Suggestions? I could use the Motorola Surfboard SB6121 to provide DHCP but have hesitations.
Point me to the right discussion/article and get me back on track, please.

This sounds like a simple port forwarding issue, but I don't understand your LAN setup.
The WRT300N has DDNS service set up. NAT and RIP are disabled.
The chances are, you're running NAT somewhere in your network. If not the WRT then what? If it's your cable modem then you must have port forwarding configured on the cable modem, and that's where you need to focus - change the port forwarding to point to your Mac Mini's address rather than the WRT.
HOWEVER, it is far more common to have the wireless router perform NAT and DHCP, which is why I question your setup.
    Not directly related, but:
The Mac Mini DHCP is reserved
Nix this. Your server should be configured manually, with a static IP address, not DHCP, even with a reservation in the DHCP server. The only advantage of DHCP is for dynamic hosts (hence the 'D' in 'DHCP') or if you expect to change your entire local subnet on any kind of frequent basis. The reality is that you can't just change the IP address of Mac OS X Server like this - there are too many dependencies, so it's better to set it manually, knowing that there's a cost (and pain) to change the server's address.

  • Linksys BEFW11S4 - dead?

Hello, I think my Linksys might be dead. One day i lost my internet connection so i restarted a router. After that Linksys does not react when i plug a cable to the WAN input or outputs. All i see is green Power LED and red Diag light. When I plug or unplug cables I see no reaction at all. When I type 192.168.1.1 I get an error 'Page not found'. I tried to ping it, but all attemps failed. I tried to reset it in many ways, but no success. Does it mean that my device is dead? Thanks

When the DIAG light on the router is lit, it could possibly mean that the firmware is corrupted. You can do this test to see if the router will still reply, that way you may proceed in performing a firmware upgrade afterwards.
    1. Disconnect the modem from the router.
    2. Connect a computer to an ethernet port of the router.
    3. Open the command prompt and type in ping 192.168.1.1
    4. While the router is powered on, press and hold the reset button for 30 seconds.
    5. Do not release the reset button, while still holding down the reset, unplug the power cord and leave it off for another 30 seconds.
    6. And still holding the reset button down, plug in the power cord for another 30 seconds.
    7. After the last 30 second reset, release the button and wait for the power light to go steady.
    8. During the reset process, check the command prompt and see if you got a reply. At any time that you see a response while pinging, release the reset button immediately and check if you can access the router interface.

  • Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 with a NETGEAR RP614 v3

    I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 with a NETGEAR RP614 v3.
My setup is my Cable modem, into my NETGEAR RP614 v3, and everything works perfectly fine. I got a Linksys BEFW11S4 v2 and updated its firmware from the linksys server.
    Now,
I'm hooking the Linksys into the NETGEAR router (ethernet) and using the Linksys wireless to connect my laptop to the entire network.
(My PC desktop is running XP Home and my Laptop is running Windows Vista Home Premium)
My laptop can go online perfectly fine wirelessly, and the signal and everything seems perfectly fine. My problem is however, my Laptop can't see the computers on the NETGEAR router. (The Linksys acquires the correct IP and Domain and everything from the NETGEAR however).
I've set the network discovery and all in Windows Vista to on, however it can't see the computers still. I've even disabled the Firewalls at one point on the desktops.
However, Itunes finds the SHARED music files and stuff from the NETGEAR computers. And when I ran Diablo2, with TCP/IP I could connect to a game hosted by a NETGEAR computer, yet when I hosted, they couldn't connect to me behind the Linksys.
Anyone think they can help ?
    Thank you for your time,
    Charles Louis

That's because they belong to different networks: I think it goes this way...
Netgear usually operates under the network IP of 192.168.0.x while Linksys operates under network IP of 192.168.1.x ......... now if you want to do file and printer sharing on all your PC's... have them belong to the same network by doing the ff:
► change IP of the BEFW11S4 to 192.168.0.x (preferrably 50)
► disable the Linksys DHCP server
► connect the Netgear to port 1 of the Linksys router
This would make in effect your BEFW11S4 just like a wireless switch.

  • Need help reconnecting my BEFW11S4 router..please! :)

I was wondering if anyone could help me with the problem that I'm having right now.
I've had a Linksys BEFW11S4 Wireless Router for more than a year now and so far, nothing's been wrong with it. Just last night, my DSL wouldn't connect so I called my internet provider (Frontier) and we got it to work but only after I disconnected the router. The guy on the phone said that the router was part of the problem and that I would need to call Linksys and have them guide me through setting it back up. He also said I'd need to change some of the settings. When I called, the Linksys lady said that I would need to pay money for them to help me, but I could use their free internet resources. So I tried reconnecting the router but it didn't work. So I'm stumped. I haven't a clue what to do. Could someone please help? Thank you so much.
Oh I have Windows XP in case you need to know.

1)connect the computer to the router's port 1
2)access the router ui using http://192.168.1.1 . the default login password is "admin"..
3)on the set up page , select the internet connection type as "PPPoE" ..
4)Enter the username and password provided by Frontier...the username should be like [email protected]
    5)save the settings
6)connect the modem to the router's internet port
    7)do a power cycle
8)on the router web ui , go to the "status" tab and check whether the login status is connected ..
9)if yes, there should be a valid internet ip address and you should be online
10)if not, then you need to bridge the modem ..

  • Voip softphone behind a linksys home router - one way voice

Either a softphone or a 7960 works when connected directly to a users DSL modem, but behind this particular linksys router it results in no inbound voice stream.
I have to assume that this particular linksys router/fw is firewalling off the returned udp stream. We have tried putting the PC at a fixed address, putting it in the DMZ, as well as setting all udp inbound ports to point to the internal address. Nothing seems to work.
At other external locations, this setup, without any special stuff works fine. I have come to the conclusion that this is specific to this particular model of router/firewall.
The device is a Linksys BEFW11S4, not the more common WRT54G series.
Anyone have any suggestions? My next step is to bring it back to our lab where we can do packet captures.
    Roger

I have this same Linksys router and it works fine with a SIP based IPT using a 7960 and a softphone. With no modifications to the Linksys whatsoever. I have used the phones with SIP services such as FWD and SIPPhone as well as connecting to my own servers. You just have to use STUN or a SIP outbound proxy server.
I believe you are correct though and that the DMZ and port forwarding doesn't work on this router at all. I have tried it and nothing works. I believe the OS is faulty. I have tried using a couple of different versions of the firmware and none work.

  • Constant disconnects with Linksys BEFW11S4/Westell/Bellsouth Ultra DSL

I recently upgraded to the 6mb DSL service from Bellsouth.  Previously I had the 3mb.  Anyways everything was fine for sometime even with the faster service.  The last few weeks I have been having constant disconnects(several a day).  Naturally the wireless lite on my Linksys BEFW11S4 goes out each time.  I then un-power the router then re-power and I'm off and running again.  I am using a westell modem.  Bellsouth tells me that its not them since i do have an internet coneection and referred me to Linksys.  After several live chats(due to disconnects and then having to start tellin my issue all over again) they had me upgrade my firmware. Well did that and problem hasn't changed.  I've played with the different router channels and they don't seem to help as well.  Bellsouth told me that I had a static ip, so I tied setting up router that way, but then i got no connection.  Unil reently everything was fine, this just started!   Any help is greatly appreicated.  My 17 yr old daughter is going through internet withdraws upstairs!

If you are on DSL using a Westell Modem; make sure you ask your ISP to bridge the Modem first and use the PPPoE fucntion on your router. Change the LAN IP of the router to something else like 192.168.2.1 so it won't get a conflict with the IP of the Westell. Then if you are on cable, you can try adjusting the MTU size to 1492, 1400, 1300, or 576 then check which value would get your connection stable. You can reset your router right after you upgrade it also, then reconfigure it again. Hopefully yell be fine after that!

online help and phone help has been less than helpful,  anyone have any Ideas?

Ok I found " Installing the liksys wireless router with a westell 6100 modem" in the verizon troubleshooting guides. printed the instructions so I would'nt forget. step 1 open your web browser and enter http://192.168.1.1 in the address field.  PROBLEM it comes up with a login screen that I don't know how to sign into. tried the obvious stuff. cannot get past the login screen. I knew this sounded to easy to be true. anyone have any ideas?
