Sbc yahoo dsl

Im planning on purchasing sbc yahoo dsl for my mac. I read on their website that it is compatable with macs, but it didnt state specific set up instructions. Im sure it's probably very simple, Im just wondering if anyone has this or at least knows what to do ~ Thanks

Ryan
Not to worry. I signed up for SBC Yahoo DSL June 2004. Your installation instructions, DSL installer CD, and your selected HomePortal will be very easy to install. Just follow the instructions that are sent to you after you sign up for the the SBC service. I connected my eMac using the ethernet connection and a PC using the USB connection. The HomePortal that I requested is also wireless so I can also connect wirelessly when and if I want too.
FYI, before I purchased the SBC Yahoo DSL service, I checked out the HomePortal that was to be furnished in June 2004. This equipment was coming from a company called 2Wire (www.2WIRE.com). I went to their web sit and checked out their "frequently asks questions and answers", support, video clip, etc, which made me comfortable before the HomePortal arrived. Depending on which SBC service you selected will depend on what hardware you will get. Hope you will have the same success that I had.

  • Still losing Internet connection - SBC Yahoo DSL

My setup includes a new 17 inch Powerbook G4, AEBS, and a Speedstream modem connected to is SBC Yahoo DSL. I have configured my AEBS based on the recommendations I have read on these forums and have also downgraded the Base Station firmware to 5.5.1.
Unfortunately, my AEBS still loses the internet connection intermittently. This requires me to power cycle the Base Station, after which the connection is restored.
I'm really not sure what else to try, so any help would be appreciated.

  • Mail and SBC Yahoo DSL

I'd been using a dial-up AOL account previously and so never bothered setting up a Mail account on my iMac until I got SBC Yahoo DSL last month. Now I'm using Safari to access the Internet but have been unable to set up a Mail account and thus still have to log into AOL to send and receive mail. Every time I try, the computer tells me it is unable to confirm my settings. What process do I need to follow to set up Mail so that I can get rid of AOL?

You can set up your AOL email account in Mail as an IMAP type account per the instructions provided in this link.
    http://members.aol.com/adamkb/aol/mailfaq/imap/applemail.html
SBC blocks the use of all SMTP servers outside of their network on Port 25 even if authenticated such as the AOL SMTP server. The instructions provided include entering 587 as the SMTP server port.
If this doesn't allow you to send a message with your AOL account using Mail, you need to contact SBC and "opt out" of Port 25 blocking even though you are using 587 as the server port for AOL's SMTP server. I believe you can "opt out" online at SBC's website.

  • Need airport extreme card for sbc yahoo DSL??

    hello,
do I need to buy a aiport extreme card if I get a new iMac G5?? or can I connect to my DSL line automatically?

    Hello Ann:
I connect to SBC/Yahoo through the aforementioned 2Wire router. I bought the router from SBC when I acquired DSL service. I use the router to connect two iMacs to the DSL line (wire connection). Make sure you use the Ethernet port if you get the 2Wire router (it has a USB port as well which I found to be flaky under OS X).
SBC's technical support people were helpful during the initial installation.

  • Sbc yahoo dsl nightmare

    hey all,
i've read all of the discussions posted here about how to go about connecting to the internet w/ an airport extreme, but haven't been able to make it work for me.
here's my setup ... normally i would have i usually have my imac g4 connected to the dsl modem through the AE to get to the internet, my ibook has an airport card.
the only way i can connect to the internet now is to have the modem connected directly to the modem (speedstream 4100).
when i connect the modem to the ae and then to the imac i try to use the airport admin utility and i can't even see the airport. i've tried to configure the airport through my ibook, but to no avail. i've tried setting the AE to connect via pppoe and put in my username and password, but still can't get it to connect.
is it because i have this 4100 modem that the fixits you have mentioned before won't work?
    thanks in advance

    JP:
Not sure what you have already tried so forgive me if I am repeating what you have already been told.
I use SBC Yahoo with my G5 iMac (both wired and wireless) and G4 iBook (wireless) with an Airport Extreme and don't have any problems with a connection.
Be sure to go into System preferences and select Network. Select the connection type (Airport or Ethernet) and then click on the TCP/IP tab. In the Configur IPv4 box, be sure to select "Using DHCP". If the connection does not come up try clicking on the Renew DHCP Lease button.
For the Airport Base Station, you need to using the Airport Administration application in /Applications/Utilities. Select PPPoe and enter your SBC ID and password where indicated. Remember that you have to use the full ID including you domain (e.g. [email protected]) in the ID box.
after you do all of this I would unplg the moden and AEBS as suggested before and restart the computer. This should work.
    Good luck.

  • Would SBC Yahoo DSL  run on my eMac?

Stupid question but...Im wondering if it would work on my mac...Thanks alot..I'm getting internet on it!

Assuming your ethernet port is working (the DSL modem connects through ethernet), there's no reason why not. My Embarq DSL was pretty much plug and play.

  • Yahoo DSL from Dell Desktop to ibook-wirless via Airport Extreme

Greetings. I have just ordered a ibook G4 to replace my Dell Dimension desktop PC running Windows XP. I am currently wired to my DSL modem (Speedstream) with SBC Yahoo DSL as my ISP. I want to do the following and need some help: 1) move my Internet settings from my Dell Desktop to my new ibook, which will become my primary machine used (would like to use my Dell for only a couple of programs that are Windows only--and then only occasionally at that); 2) once Internet settings have been set up and are working as it should, I'd like to then set up my soon to arrive Airport Exteme base station to my modem and be wireless with the full 802.11g Wi-Fi capabilities. Anyone who may have experience with similar tasks that may be able to assist me? I can't wait for my machine to arrive, and I want to make sure the setup frustration, esp. w/ the 'net set up and going wireless, is eased. Also, through from anyone who's made a similar switch from desktop using the Windows platform to a 12" ibook G4 (80GB hard drive and 1GB RAM) and how that's been as their only/primary machine would be nice to hear as well? Cheers, robyn.
    ibook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

ya i believe you are right.
on my new Palm Lifedrive i first entered in the ip for google and it worked immidiately.
oddly enough i entered in apple.com and that worked also so i am gonna try other devices.
in the even its a dns issue what would be the resolution?

  • SBC YAHOO & 2WIRE

Hi folks. I want to go to SBC YAHOO DSL which will come with the 2WIRE wireless router. Is the new IMAC w/Isight compatable with 2WIRE if I what to go wireless with the IMAC? SBC looks good for my laptop but b/4 I pull the trigger on buying an IMAC I what to be sure it will work with the 2WIRE router. What I am looking to do here is to eliminate having to purchase a lot of extra equipment for making the IMAC work.

Thanks Henry B. and sorry for posting this question. I saw your response a few pages back on a simialar question.

  • Mac mail and sbc yahoo

I just switced to SBC Yahoo DSL (now AT&T). with the new DSL line installed, I was able to send emails from Entourage but not receive them. SBC tells me they do not support Entoruage so I tried using Mac Mail. With Mac Mail, I can receive emails but cannot send them. Now SBC is telling me they do not support ANY email programs for Mac OSX.
    can anyone help me out?
Now that I'm using Mac Mail, I prefer that (though I would like to know how to get rid of a flower icon that appears in the header of emails sent from me).
    thanks!
    iMac G4   Mac OS X (10.4.5)

Well, here is exactly how I have my setting:
    Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.sbcglobal.yahoo.com
    Server Settings:
    Server Port: 25
    Do not check SSL
    Authentication: password
    Username: [email protected]
    Password: password
Under the advanced tab, Port 110
    SSL NOT checked.
    Authentication: Password
If you've triple check all these options, I'd create a new account from scratch and re-enter everything.
If that doesn't work, try creating a new account on your mac, log in to that, and re-create the mail account to see if by some strange happenstance something has gotten f-ed up on a low level that is causing you not to be able to send mail. (though I have no idea what that would be...)
    I'll keep my fingers crossed!!!

  • Intermittent "The mail server rejected the password" on SBC-Yahoo

I have Mail set to automatically check email every 5 minutes from an SBC-Yahoo DSL line.
*Every day* when I come home, the "Server rejected the password" error dialog is waiting for me. Of course, the password is correct. When I re-enter it, Mail downloads the mail correctly.
This problem seems to occur more often since I switched over from the old prodigy.net to the sbc.yahoo.com servers.
While I sure wished that Mail was not totally boneheaded in handling the occasional failed POP connection attempt, I wonder whether:
    1. I am the only one having this problem
    2. It's a Yahoo problem
    3. Is there a way to fix it?
    TIA

I am having the same problem. I have to re-type my password for two POP accounts each time I start MAIL. It doesn't hold the SMTP passwords either.
Once I go into the preferences and re-type them it will connect fine until I restart MAIL and I have to start all over again...I too wonder the same things!

  • Is AT&T YAHOO DSL compatible with Mac OS X 10.4.7?

I've read on the website, www.att.com that if the OS is not listed, the servise is not available for that OS. The servise lists that MAC OSX 10.1-10.3 is supported. Ive heard from people that it doesnt matter, MAC OS X 10.4.7 is supported. Anyone has AT&T YAHOO DSL woking on MAC OS X 10.4.7

I used SBC DSL for a bit with my eMac on Panther without a hitch.
It is not that the service will not work, but their bundled software will not - not that you need it anyway.

  • SBC Yahoo!

    Hey everyone,
So I recently got the new operating system Leopard and the mail app made it really easy to set up my SBC Yahoo! account to filter mail to the app. The only problem I am having now is that it wont send mail. I suspect that this is a server port issue and that there is a firewall. I've spoken to the tech people here about the issue and haven't been able to solve my problem. Can anyone help me? How specifically should I set up the outgoing mail server? What ports should I try?

I seem to have improved sending, if not altogether solved the problem.
I have a main account in my name and a subaccount for my wife, with different passwords. I wondered how both accounts could fetch mail at the same time without confusing (?) the server. Don't ask me why, but I decided to try leaving my wife set to smtp.att.yahoo.com while changing mine to 68.142.198.11 (which is the same location in IPv4). The only difference, as far as I can tell, is that my wife's email will be fetched at little later than mine because her fetch must be translated (?) through the DNS server. Sending seems more reliable.
I also added two more DNS servers to my DNS server list:
    System Preferences | Network | Advanced |DNS | + etc.
This appears to have helped a little, in conjunction with the first change above.
How did I come up with these ideas? My grey Motorola DSL modem has a yellow sticker on the bottom, providing a URL for advanced modem configuration. This web page lists my connections, DNS servers, and allows me to ping other addresses. That (ping) is how I determined the IPv4 address of my smtp server. That is also where I saw that my DNS servers were different from those in the Network settings of System Preferences.
Perhaps others have a similar sticker on the bottom of their DSL modems? Your mileage may vary. Maybe sending won't work well later or tomorrow, but for now I am pleasantly surprised.

  • Using Mail with SBC Yahoo!

I have an account with SBC Yahoo that I know for sure is a POP mail server because I can use it with Outlook on my PC. My question is, what do I need to put in which field to use it with mail? Anyone use SBC Yahoo! with mail? Would you recomend mail or should I use a different program?

    I hope this helps:
    1) Start OSX Mail. The Accounts window will open automatically.
    2) Select POP for the Account Type and enter a name for this account in the Description field. Enter your full email address in the Email Address field, and in the Full Name field, type your name the way you would like people to see it when they get email from you.
    3) Enter pop.sbcglobal.yahoo.com in the Incoming Mail Server field. In the User Name field, enter your full email address and type your password in the Password field. Click the Options button to open the SMTP Server Options window.
    4) Select Password from the Authentication pulldown. Enter your full email address in the User Name field and your password in the Password field. Click OK to close the SMTP Server Options window and then click OK again to close the Accounts window.
Your mail should now be setup!
