SBL and Windows group policy user configuration preference
We would like to have user connects to VPN via SBL and then login to the AD domain. Ideally, the group policy user configuration preference, such as drive mapping, should be applied after successful AD login. However, we are running into issue where the preferences are not being applied. It appears the AnyConnect VPN tunnel is not completely established after the user login to AD; and hence the GPO preference was not able to apply. It takes about 1 min.after the user's AD login before the VPN tunnel is completely established.
Just want to find out if anyone is able to get SBL and AD GPO preference working successfully.

Any one else haven success w 32 bit win7 -building ie policy?
Well there is a TID 7005804 about IE policy failures but don't know if the bug applies to your situation...

Group Policy - User Rights Assignments not taking effect on workstation`
Novell 5.1 SP7. ZenWorks 3.2 sp3. Windows XP Pro workstations.
In Group Policy, (Computer Configuration/Windows Settings/Security
Settings/Local Policies/User Rights Assignment), I have added Power Users to
the "Load and Unload device drivers" policy. However this setting is not
taking effect on my Windows XP workstations. My DLU policy for users is
configured to have the users members of the "Users" and "Power Users" groups
on the local PC.
Other parts of Group Policy (Computer Policy/Administrative Templates) are
taking effect on the workstation, so I'm wondering if the problem I am
having is related to Security Settings only.
I enabled Group Policy logging on the Windows XP workstation and include it

Windows Group policy on win XP via boot camp
i have a MBP 17" and im trying to block some web pages for a certain non admin user ....does Windows group policy or the GPMC still work on win XP pro via boot camp
thanksYes it should work fine. If you are planning to work your mac on your network, there are a few security items you will need to disable within the GPMC to be able to access shares on windows boxes - running windows though will have no differences as it is essentially just another windows box.

Removing Windows 2003 Group Policy user settings
I'm having a difficult time finding what to do.
I have a windows 2003 domain with many GP settings. One of which I can't find. It has to do with the favorites bar in IE. When a user from a certain OU logs on to any computer with any Windows OS, any favorites saved either to their Favorites
bar, or even in the Favorites folder, disappear on next logon. This happens all the time.
I thought I would create another OU with a BLANK GP and blocked inheritance. I moved a user from the original OU into the test OU, replicated the changes, and rebooted the computer on which the user would log on. The user logged on and the settings
from the original OU still applied.
I created a completely new user in the test OU and no settings were applied, which is what I want.
What is the best way to remove the original OU settings from a user that was in that original OU?
Thank you for any helpThanks for the quick response. There are no scripts that run with the former GPO.
I did run RSOP.MSC from the test computer and received an error about not being able to read the computer settings, but the user settings were displayed. The settings the account received were from "Software Restriction Policy" and "Public
Key Policy". Nothing shows about any IE settings. I'm at a loss as to why this is happening and where these dang policies are coming from.
I've even gone as far as to go to the original GPO, and in Delegation, deny the Apply Group Policy permission to the user.
And the only policy that is applying is the test policy. The others show as either Disabled(link), or Blocked(SOM). -
The first, most important question of this thread is if I can form a wireless domain or if I have to do it wired.
If it matters, I have a Linksys E1200 router that does wireless and wired.
My second question refers to Group Policy. Is this the way domains limit their user account's capabilities? Because I was planning on making a domain, so that I could have unified user accounts that I could control from the server, limiting what those accounts
can access for further security. Is this what Group Policy does, and how would I move with starting that?Hi Adrian,
>>The first, most important question of this thread is if I can form a wireless domain or if I have to do it wired.
Just as Alan suggested, Active Directory domains support both wired and wireless connections.
>>My second question refers to Group Policy. Is this the way domains limit their user account's capabilities?
Group Policy is an infrastructure that allows you to implement specific configurations for users and computers. Group Policy settings are contained in Group Policy objects
(GPOs), which are linked to the following Active Directory directory service containers: sites, domains, or organizational units (OUs). The settings within GPOs are then evaluated by the affected targets, using the hierarchical nature of Active Directory.
Consequently, Group Policy is one of the top reasons to deploy Active Directory because it allows you to manage user and computer objects.
Regarding group policy, the following link and articles can be referred to for more information.

OneDrive Pro Group Policy & Centralised Configuration Options
Hi there,
I would like to guidance as to the available options for controlling and configuring the Office 365 Pro Plus 'OneDrive Pro' application within Group Policy? What is the most streamlined way of centrally configuring the desktop application on sync'ing
online OneDrive content from Office 365 to the desktop? It all seems rather manual and based around individual user subscriptions initially.
Responses appreciated, with any reference links / guides.
Thank you.

Group Policy File Item Preferences Delay
We are using Group Policy Preferences to copy files from a file share to local workstations, using the "Replace" option. We are most concerned with files being updated at logon.
If the third-party macro developer makes a change to one of the distributed files and then immediately logs off and logs back in, the new version of the file is not pushed out via Group Policy. It will be updated on the next GP refresh.
Logins that occur some unknown time after this will have the new version of the file distributed. The system seems to be caching the files somehow.
A comment on this KB article suggests that the default SMB DirectoryCacheLifetime is 10 minutes, not 10 seconds - if this is the case, could this be the issue?

Seems we need traces now... I'd suggest capturing a procmon trace on
client and server side (with a filter for a test file, of course) to see
whats's going on. In my environment, I've never seen such behaviour :(

Getting the Windows groups a user belongs to.
I'm using the JAAS package, and have used the NTSystem class to get the current domain and user that is running my application. What I would like to do is determine if that user belongs to a specifically named windows group (i.e. Administrators, Users, Guests, oneIMadeUp). Using the JAAS package, I'm able to list the groupSIDs, which is just an unintelligble list of numbers.
There must be a simple way to just list the groups a user belongs to, so I can check in my code against a specific group, and then allow/deny certain functions running.
Any ideas?Resubmitting
Hi,
I want to write some code which will retrieve all the groups a user belongs in.
The JAZNUserAdaptor class has a getGroups() method which returns a Set which I iterate through as follows;
JAZNUserAdaptor jaznuser = (JAZNUserAdaptor)p;
Set aSet = jaznuser.getGroups();
Iterator anIter = aSet.iterator();
Object myObject = new Object();
while (anIter.hasNext())
myObject = anIter.next();
System.out.println(myObject.toString());
The above produces the output
[JAZNGroupAdaptor: RealmRole: jazn.com/pats_sit]
[JAZNGroupAdaptor: RealmRole: jazn.com/guests]
[JAZNGroupAdaptor: RealmRole: jazn.com/users]
Is there a better way to do this? What type of object is returned from anIter.next()? Is it JAZNGroupAdaptor and where is this class defined? -
Mail for exchange and domain group policy removing...
Hi,
I currently administer 2 domains, both server 2003 with exchange 2003. On the one domain I can configure any of our e series ( e51/e71/e72/e6) via MFE and permanently accept the untrusted SSL certificate. When I configure MFE to our other domain the option to accept the untrusted certificate has vanished..!
Anyone have any ideas? I'm sure that it's a group policy setting but I cannot spot it!turbominor wrote:
No certificates have been generated bar the ones that exchange installed by default
Hmm, I don't recall ever realizing that. Lol. In that case, what are you using as a root certificate? Nothing...which explains why the cert is untrusted? (As connections to your first Exchange server work normally, apparently you don't need a root cert for a secure connection?) I used to get mine from http://www.cacert.org/ and installed the root cert either manually or through a device management server.
I wasn't completely sure where I was going with my question, but just did a few web searches. Apparently Symbian phones don't like installing self-signed certificates. "Accepting a certificate permanently" does install the cert, although I'm not sure that's quite the same thing. You might skim http://discussions.nokia.com/t5/Eseries-and-Communicators/E72-Email-Accept-Certificate-Permanently/m... in case any of that is relevant. -
Bitlocker and MBAM Group Policy

Group Policy for configuring SNMP service
HI,
I want to configure SNMP service on HP Physical server for communicating with HP SIM server through GPO as need to congifure it on 100 servers.
Though I have configure a policy but its not working.
When I configured manually on HP Physical server its working fine but when I tried to implement through GPO, SNMP stops responding to SNMP requests.
I need a working GPO.
-- Sandeep GuptaHi Sandeep Gupta,
Based on my understanding, there were something wrong when you configured the SNMP service via GPO. As Martin said, please provide us the policy you configured to get more help. In addition, please also tell us your OS information.
I would like to introduce you some knowledge on SNMP settings:
Based on my experience and research, the
SNMP settings (including permissions) are stored in the following registry:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\SNMP
Therefore, we can configure a sample computer and then propagate the registry settings to other computers via scripts. Note that, the default ADM file can only
be used to configure "Read only" settings.

ADM template for office and AD - Group policy
Hi,
I need to enforce English (UK) as the editing language in office application (2010 & 2013).
I have downloaded the ADM template saved it on C drive on the AD server.
Then I loaded the ADM template for office to a GOP which I created on test basis and added an AD user to it.
On the template I enabled the setting for primary editing language as English (UK) .
on the client side , when I open an office application eg outlook or word, I can still see English (US) as the set language.
what am I doing wrong ?
also how do I use the ADMX template ? because when from the GPO editor I try to browse add the its template the window show blank.Hi,
From Windows 2008 R2, the current version of Administrative Template files are ADMX files. The GPMC displays these settings under the Administrative Templates node.
However, the GPMC still recognizes ADM files and displays these settings under the Classic Administrative Templates node, which is a child node to Administrative Templates .
Checkout the below link on installing ADM files,
Add or Remove Classic Administrative Templates
Checkout the below on adding the Office 2010 ADMX files in to GPMC,

Keyboard Shortcuts and Window Grouping not working Gnome 3
I recently installed arch with Gnome 3.6.2. Opening a terminal (ctrl+alt+T) was not defined so I made a custom launcher for it.
However, between restarts, this custom launcher stops working. Also, Window Grouping (alt+~) while context-switching works intermittently between reboots. I can't figure out what might be causing the problem as dmesg does not show anything.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks a lot!

Mohanaraj CS, I'm still using Flash Pro CS6 on my MacBook Pro and the shortcuts don't all work correctly because Flash (German version with German language keyboard setting in OSX) seems to use an US keyboard setting only for the shortcuts internally (if I type into fields, I've got my German layout, but if I want to set up a shortcut like cmd + + for zoom in oder cmd + - for zoom out, it shows cmd + ] and cmd + / instead).
And the "fix" to an obvious bug (as you said by yourself) now is TO BUY CC??
Come on, Adobe Staff, is that how you treat your customers?
A little -known- bug but you have to get (and buy) the cloud thing, if you want it fixed... did you get the bug into the code THEREFORE in the last update?
I really love the Adobe software but this is the baddest joke since a looong time, Mohanaraj CS. -
Server 2008 R2 and Windows 7. User share shows My Documents instead of use name.
Windows Server 2008 R2
This didn't startseeing this issue until we started using Windows 7 in our environment. There is a share with all the users folders in them. Because Windows 7 writes a desktop.ini file in each folder, the folders appear to be My Documents to the technicians.
I have been blocking the file with file screening but I feel there has to be a better method.
I don't like having to restrict file creation for these folders. Is there a way to prevent windows from reading in the folder until the folder has been opened? Or is file screening the best method to use. I feel like file screening may be slowing down logins.
The only other method I have found is to create a docs folder inside of the users folder and map to that docs folder. But that would mean moving around 10,000 - 30,000 user folders.
Any advice would be great.
Thank you
CharlesWe have the same, and it is by design. We uncovered this article whilst researching: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947222
There's nothing to stop the admins typing the route manually though as even though it displays my documents, the folder still has the name of the user.
