SBS 2008 cannot find local router after router is changed

Hello,
I changed the router on my SBS 2008 server. Because I wanted more speed anticipating increasing cloud demands for bandwidth (my ISP provides 100 MB and earlier router chokes @ 48MB), I thought my network would be faster if I used the router to provide DHCP
since SBS only supports 1 NIC.
That was a big mistake.
So I disabled DHCP on the new router and tried to use the Fix My Network Wizard to "fix my network".
The results are very strange.
I got all the messages about opening ports discussed elsewhere on this forum. But that's not the strange part.
When I run the connect to the internet wizard , it reports that it found the router and provides the correct IP addresses for both it and the server. However, it did not find my new router at all. Instead, it finds the ISP's router
which, of course, it cannot configure. (How it picked the correct IP addresses is also beyond me.)
The router is a NetGear SRX.... I reset it to factory, disabled DHCP and assigned the fixed IP and DNS server information for our ISP.
Does anybody have any idea why this new router cannot be found and how to fix it.(I have read all the similar posts but none apply.)
Thanks.

Sounds funky, let's go back to basic and start from fresh. Try performing these steps in exact order.
1. Disconnect all Ethernet cables from new router
2. Reset the router to factory defaults, usually with a paperclip tip, check manual
3. Connect a computer to one of the LAN ports, do not use the server
4. Configure the computer's IP address, if needed, to coincide with router
5. Log into router and configure LAN IP to match your old router's LAN IP
6. Disable DHCP Server in the router
7. Disconnect computer from LAN port
8. Connect Server to LAN port
9. As a test, you should now be able to login into router, from the server, do not make any changes
10. Re-run the Connect to Internet Wizard
11. The wizard may not be able to configure the firewall, that is ok, you can manually do it later
12. Once Wizard finishes, connect ISP to the WAN/Internet port
13. Log into router and configure the internet connection
you should now have internet going now on the rest of the network.

  • PC cannot find wired router wrt54g2

I recently bought a new computer and wired it to the router and it worked fine. Since then I have replaced vista with xp, now when try to configure the router it says "cannot find wired router" in both LELA and when I try to setup from the disc.

When you replaces the OS on your Computer, make sure the Ethernet Drivers are installed on your Computer. When your computer is Hardwird to the Router are you able to access Internet on  your Computer?
Click on Start - Control Pannel - Network Connection - in this window check if you are able to see "Local Area Connection", Right click on it and click on Status and click on the Support tab, below it will display you the IP address. Check whats the IP address your computer is getting it from the Router, it should be 192.168.1.xxx.
If you are trying to configure your router using the setup disk, you can exit from the setup and configure all the settings on your Router manually..

I have now lost my contacts icon on the iphone and cannot find it even after syncing to my computer.
Would you know how to resolve this issue?
It's a pre-installed app and therefore cannot be deleted so you may have inadvertently moved it onto a screen or into a folder, check the utilities folder as this is a common one for it to disappear into.  Check all screens and folders and do a search in Spotlight, it will tell you if the app it still on your iPhone but unfortunately not where it is. If you find it on one or your screens or in a folder, press the icon until it wiggles and then drag it back to where you want it.  Alternatively you can reset your home screen in Settings>General>Reset>Reset Home Screen Layout.

  • [SOLVED] cannot find root device after pacman -Syu

Today I had a problem after pacman -Syu. Of course, my problem stemmed from not paying attention to the following (from https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=57205):
    <b>Read pacman's output while upgrading.</b>
I could no longer boot. I received a message "cannot find root device" or something similar indicating a device with the appropriate UUID had not been found and I was being dropped into a recovery shell, then, when I typed exit, an emergency shell, followed shortly by a freeze.
After some investigation it appeared my initramfs was broken/non-existent/something after the install. I booted into a live CD and found that updating pacman again, and mkinitcpio -p linux both displayed the following error: "Failed to create temporary working directory in /tmp". Long story short: mktemp was segfaulting. This should be extremely easy to check if you're having a similar problem. I replaced it with the version on the live CD and ran the pacman update again. Success. If you do this, you may need to make sure your live cd architecture and installed kernel architecture are the same.
I'm not sure of the etiquette here, so I'm posting this in case someone else has the same problem I did; and benefits from a similar solution. I have checked the etiquette post and I don't think it's clear whether it's kosher to post things that don't actually require a solution. However, if I have misinterpreted the rules/etiquette and/or this type of post is considered extraneous please remove it.

You have to use lvm first.  As all those vg*, lv*, and pv* commands are actually links to the lvm command, you should have to do something like "lvm vgscan" instead of just "vgscan".
Edit: oh and at that point in the boot process, you are actually in the initramfs still (ash to be specific).
Edit2: I was having issues with a USB keyboard and a new machine (actually just a new bios), and found out that because of windows 8's requriement for a fast POST, the default is to turn off the scanning for usb devices.  Though this was for UEFI, and I am not sure if the same would apply for a bios booting machine...

  • Time Machine cannot find Time Capsule after turning auto backups off

2010 macbook 7,1 OSX 10.6.8.  Brand new rev.4 Time Capsule 2TB (MD032LL/A) just bought yesterday.
Everything set up just fine and wireless is working.  Backups are working.
Issue is that as soon as I turn the Time Machine slider to Off (I can turn it back to On at this point, doesn't matter once it's been in the Off position) in TIme Machine preferences, then try and Enter Time Machine or do a backup, it cannot find the Time Capsule (says cannot find backup volume or such).  I have to reselect the drive even though it's icon is showing right on the preferences screen.  A reboot will enable it to find the Time Capsule without my input.
If I leave Time Machine turned on, the backups run fine and I can enter the Time Machine.  It is turning off Time Machine that triggers the issue.
    Tried the following:
      -Rebooted Time Capsule
-Made sure Time Capsule name is less than 27 characters (it is 19)
      -Firewall is off
      -Filevaullt is off
      -Booted into Safe Mode
      -Repaired permissions
      -Trashed TIme Machine plist
      -Updated OSX
At this point I called Applecare and they had me send them a capture of my TIme Machine data and will get back to me Monday.
Oddly, my 10.5.8 iMac G5 2ghz is working fine with Time Machine and does not have this issue.  I can turn Time Machine off and on all I want and it can find the Time Capsule with no problem.
    Thanks for any help.

Apple is still working on the issue but I have now noticed that I cannot VNC into my work PC anymore.  I get a "Could not connect to server, connection refused:5900"
I am using Chicken of the VNC and it worked fine until I got the Time Capsule.  I know that 5900 is the port used for something and this sounds like it is related to the Time Capsule.
I can't help but think this is also related to the "Cannot find backup disk" message from Time Machine.  This all sounds like the Time Capsule goofed up the works here.
Also, I now have tons of reports in the console of it not being able to count items in a file at system/library/StartupItems.  That folder is NOT there. Which is why I assume the errors.  I have seen a few other reports and people are just restoring the file from Time Machine or making it via command line with admin.  When I go back far enough in Time Machine, the file IS there but has nothing in it.
I asked Apple about that too and they checked a 10.6.8 computer and it had the file so not sure what is up there.  Not sure if it was 10.6.8 update or the bunch of iTunes, etc that I did after that.
Have not restored that file yet, will wait to see what they say about the Time Capsule mess.
Any ideas on restoring my VNC connection?

  • HT1766 my 3g cannot find my SIM after updating

After updating my iphone 3G to iOS 5, it cannot says there is no SIM casrd installed on the phone.
    What should I do?

I have the same issue on all of my iOS devices since updating to iOS 8 and the latest Airport Utility. My Mac can still see all of the devices on my network and my iOS devices will connect to and use my WiFi network, but the Airport Utility cannot find any of the devices to manage them.  I see this as a common message on the iTunes reviews for the app, so it is not an isolated issue.

  • 'Cannot find symbol' error after putting class into package

I'm sure this is probably just a stupid mistake that I am making somewhere, but I can't figure it out.
I have written a Java program, "LineConsole.java" and an interface, "LineConsoleKeyListener.java". LineConsole.java uses the interface (it does not implement it... it uses LineConsoleKeyListener objects in the program). If I put the two .java files into the same directory and compile them, everything works.
So now I want to put them in a package called "LineConsole". I thought all I had to do was move the two files into a folder called "LineConsole" and add "package LineConsole;" to the top of each file. I did that, but now LineConsole.java does not compile. It complains that it cannot find the LineConsoleKeyListener interface, even though it's right there in the same directory.
What am I doing wrong? Do members of a package have to import themselves or something?
    Thanks!

    Thanks guys :)
    It's working now.
    One more question...
Right now I have 3 files in a folder names "LineCon":
    - LineConsole.class
    - LineConsoleKeyListener.class
    - wincbreak.dll
If I copy that directory into the same directory as some other program I am writing, I can use those classes just like they are in a package. But is there any way to zip that package into a jar file? I know how to create jar files, but is there a way to make them behave like packages?
I have tried creating a jar file with the individual files and also with all three files in a directory. The jar file is created successfully, but I cannot copy that jar file into the directory of a program and use the classes within it as if they were a package.
I guess my ultimate question here is... how do I import a .class file that is in a jar file?

  • Firefox cannot find profile, even after deleting and re-installing.

I un-installed firefox when the problem first started, then re-installed it. Still cannot find profile. I went through the Profile Manager Wizard, but that didn't work. It couldn't find the program. I'm not on firefox now since it won't load.

    See:
This is usually caused by a problem with the profiles.ini file and the profile marked as Default=1 in this file is no longer present on the hard drive.
    *Windows: %AppData%\Mozilla\Firefox\<br>C:\Users\&lt;user&gt;\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\&lt;profile&gt;\
    *Linux: ~/.mozilla/firefox/
    *Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/Firefox/
You can use one of these to make Firefox create/use a new default profile:
*Delete the profiles.ini file to force Firefox to create a new default profile
*Use the Profile Manager to create a new profile
*Use "Choose Folder" when you create a new profile to select the location of a lost profile and recover this profile

  • Server error on Find My Friends after apple id change

I keep getting a server error on find my friends after I updated my apple id.  I have made sure I've updated my apple id everywhere including icloud.  What is really wierd is when I go into find my friends, and click on "me" the "Send As" under invitations shows my old apple id but when i click on that to change it, my new id shows up in that space.  Its like the iCloud has a glitch on my old apple ID.  I'm not even sure a complete phone restore would work if icloud is the problem.  Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem! I started out with an old @mac.com address that then got migrated to an @me.com address. I log into my account with the @mac, but my email address is @me. It seems like the app is trying to verify the @mac email address, which doesn't exist anymore. I can't believe there isn't a fix for this yet!

  • I cannot find where to log in or change identities

There used to be a log-in spot on the Firefox home page. I've located most of the other things I was used to, but I cannot find that log in spot. I've managed so far by Googling Gmail, and there I can log in, but why isn't it on the Firefox drop-down options on on the home page? I miss the easy access to Google Maps and Gmail from the old version too, but the log-in hassle is the worst.

    Firefox 4 comes with a new build-in home page called about:home<br />
That about:home page has as only feature a button to restore the previous session if applicable.
You can change the home page to http:\\www.google.com or http:\\www.google.com\firefox to get access to the Google menus.

  • Cannot Find WiFi router

Just moved into new flat & though my Ipod touch can see the flat's wifi & connect, my Ibook running 10.4.11 cannot though it can see all my neighbours. Is there anything I can try. I have searched for the network name with the WEP passcode but it can still not find it. Any help would be much appreciated.

I just had this type of problem with my Linksys router. I pressed the reset button on the router and it erased my set up info (bad move). I contacted Linkys support chat and learned that I had to run through the online set-up procedure again. Now my iBook sees the router.
I don't want to send you on a wild goose chase but maybe all you need to do is set up your connection again.

Can someone help me set up my router so it will be able to find it.

    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

upgrade the firmware on the router and then reset your modem and router after upgrading (use the little buttons on the back of the modem and router)
and use the port forwarding for ports 88 and 3074 (not port triggering)

  • Openssh and dhcpcd updated today - now sftp cannot find local servers

    Hi folks,
I did my update thing this evening 'packer -Syu' and openssh was updated to 6.6p1
    [2014-03-19 18:44] [PACMAN] upgraded openssh (6.5p1-2 -> 6.6p1-1)
and dhcpcd was updated to 6.3.2-1
    [2014-03-19 18:43] [PACMAN] upgraded dhcpcd (6.3.1-2 -> 6.3.2-1)
and then sftp stopped working as it was ok before the updates.
I get error messages like this:
    [dellgx270:steve] /home/steve
    1442 20140319 234019 $ sftp laptop.local
ssh: Could not resolve hostname laptop.local: Inappropriate ioctl for device
Couldn't read packet: Connection reset by peer
    [dellgx270:steve] /home/steve
    1443 20140319 234030 $ _
This is how I network my machines. Its much lighter on resources than either NFS or Samba, but is a bit tricky to configure at first go. The Arch Wiki has some older stuff in it and is a bit confusing for first-time users but I also 'googled' other forums and eventually got things configured correctly. Ubuntu flavors work out of the box, but Arch needs some extra leg-work to get things organized.
I tried removing the ~/.ssh/known_hosts files but that didn't work. Since the error was a resolver issue (according to my error messages) I tried using the IP address of the laptop.local machine 192.168.2.10 and that worked both at the command line and via my file manager thunar (I run XFCE on all my boxes because it works well and with a few additions I can get it to do what I want) ...
Problem is, the IP addresses are assigned by dhcpcd (which means they can get reassigned somewhere else) so I would prefer using the host.local names in scripts and bookmarks etc.
Anyone else having issues of this sort? Inquiring minds need to know!

From the Arch Wiki - Networking - Avahi page (this is what I've been using for more than a year):
"Avahi is a free Zero-configuration networking (zeroconf) implementation, including a system for multicast DNS/DNS-SD service discovery. It allows programs to publish and discover services and hosts running on a local network with no specific configuration. For example you can plug into a network and instantly find printers to print to, files to look at and people to talk to. It is licensed under the GNU Lesser General Public License (LGPL)."
I don't use hosts file or anything else to resolve the names of the local workstations and/or devices. I have a relatively new Sagemcom fibre router / modem device, and it has been working well since installation ..
What I've been trying to say - as in my initial post - that this worked properly before I did the dhcpcd update. I'll recheck all the settings for dhcpcd, ssh and sftp (and anything else in my networking configurations) to see if anything is in error. There were no .pacnew files created during that software update. I'll post anything that I learn.
