SBS 2008 STOP:c000021

I have found myself is a fairly irritating position.
My SBS 2008 server has failed and causing me a whole lot of pain in the process.
There was a fairly comprehensive backup plan in place, Acronis image (Daily), Windows image (Daily) and Bexec.
The last DA test we did worked fine and I was able to restore the acronis to a VM and boot.
Now we have actually had an error none of the backups work! All with the same error code on physical hardware and within a VM.
The error is:
Steps taken:
Restore to VM
Load SBS media to do system repair (It prompted for password for the user Administrator. Didnt know it as it was SBS with AD we used a different account.)
Load offline NT password, Enable Admin and blank password
Load SBS media to do system repair, sfc scan & chckdsk
Made some reg tweaks so it didnt restart when it BSOD (Still cant get it to make a memory dump though.)
All returned no errors and fine.
One restart the same error.
Tried all the F8 options, All with the same error. Even safe mode!
In safe mode it stalls at ClassPNP.sys and then straight to the BSOD screen.
This folder is empty:
C:\Windows\System32\catroot\{F750E6C3-38EE-11D1-85E5-00C04FC295EE}\
& This one does not exsist:
C:\Windows\System32\
I copied these files from a PE environment to the C drive to at least try and get it to boot.
I have had to re-install the server from scratch to get it up and running but some settings I need fromthe VM as I just figured I would be able to restore from a previous backup.
Edit:
I change some config on the vm to a sata disk and got this error:
Rob

I am currently running chckdsk in a PE environment on the VMDK file.
The VMDK is located on a USB3 drive which has other VM's on and they work fine, should I chckdsk the USB3 drive as well?
This was a physical production server when it failed, I had an acronis backup which I restored to a VM and thus have what is in front of me. The server had a scheduled reboot when this happened so it didnt just crash randomly. (But it could have been a different
error to what im seeing now.)
So dont know if its just because im trying to start it as a VM or if the main issue has followed it.
I scanned with kaspersky rescue disk which found nothing.
Tried startrep.exe which didnt work & edited the registry to allow unsigned drivers.
Can I run:
bcdedit /deletevalue nointegritychecks
bcdedit /deletevalue testsigning From a Pe enviorment for the offline OS? When I try to start in safe mode it gets to CLASSPNP.sys then CRCDISK.sys then BSOD. If I disable CRCDISK.sys it just halts on CLASSPNP.sys then BSOD. If there anyway to sysprep it in its offline state? Re-install the OS but keep the settings or disable all the drivers apart from the standard sbs2008 ones? Rob

  • Server 2012 std not able to see Domain, DC and DNS on Win SBS 2008 std Domain

    Hi There
I have a HP ML 110 G5 SBS 2008 std server as my DC on my network. I recently added a HP Microserver running Server 2012 std (with no roles or features installed) to act solely as a file server for a 3rd party program as the program was not running efficiently
    on the main server.
The problem I am having now is that the 2012 server keeps falling off the domain and cannot contact DNS server. I have also had to re-enable remote desktop several times. It also shows the 2012 Server as being on a private firewall profile and not on the
domain firewall profile but I suspect that this is part of the same problem.
the resulting problem that this is causing is that the local machines that need to contact an SQL database on the 2012 fileserver intermittently either time out or are very slow to connect.
    So far I have tried:
Switching from Static IP to DHCP.
Re-adding the server to the domain.
Stopping and restarting DNS services on the DC.
Checking physical Network connections and routing.
Putting the 2012 server into the same Organizational Unit as the 2008 DC.
Has anyone else encountered this problem when adding a 2012 server to a 2008 domain?  I have a feeling that the solution is probably something simple that I've overlooked, but I can't think what.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards
    Russ

  • How can I edit the way autodiscover.xml behaves in SBS 2008 and 2011?

I have autodiscover working correctly on a few SBS 2008 and SBS 2011 servers. But, its doing its usual misbehaving. When setting up a new Outlook profile, the user enters their email address and password.  Autodiscover is successful in creating all
the account settings, but at the end of the wizard a username and password window pops up with the users full email address incorrectly filled in as the username, which is why it didn't work.
This has always been so annoying about SBS.  The user then has to be told to delete their email address in the username field, then fill in "domain\username" instead.  Only then is the authentication successful.
I've read lots about people adding the external domain UPN Suffix to ADD&T, then manually changing ever users login to domain.com instead of domain.local.   Then you have to mess with the owa authentication settings in exchange to accept the
UPN.   Its all too ridiculous.  There must be a simpler way.
I have read about how you can control how the autodiscover.xml behaves, and there are examples of how to do it in this document:
    https://docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&q=cache:0jap1FNKgV0J:https://support.quest.com/Shared/Images/SOL51188_Outlook%2520Automatic%2520Account%2520Configuration.doc+&hl=pl&gl=pl&pid=bl&srcid=ADGEESjizUeFf-JYaM7ZdfIgUCKMMXtcCl0Y3pknFbuwd64GNHIEP1K8a_mpg2YIEisP6sz5DzbtVtdW4Pc42PE0Kjd6bz-3vXz0iaQm7FKi0AnwgvFG_41ZAkBLWynaJtf8s8xyi_d2&sig=AHIEtbSie1mEHTn8el4DPquNxrpovwknUQ
The document above shows the settings we need to change.  It looks like we can add the local domain using DomainName into the autodiscover.xml and this will stop autodiscover reporting that the full email address is required.  So we
should be able to get autodiscover to populate the username pop-up with with "domain\user" automatically.
OK, so my question is, how on earth do I edit these settings in SBS 2011?  I can't find any articles that talk about how to edit autodiscover.
If I could just edit this one setting (that Microsoft should have correctly configured in the first place) autodiscover will work perfectly for all existing users and all future users, without having to do anything.

    Just to straighten out a few things;
    1) This is NOT a bug, rather by design. Not every active directory has an exchange server in place, and MS is assuming you don't want to give your internal domain name out to people (which is why it doesn't default to domain\username)
    2) Going on what I said in 1), this is NOT SBS specific this is the same way with every Active Directory/Exchange install, keep in mind Microsoft did NOT specially design the software for SBS, they just bundled it into a supported configuration in a neat
little package -since the Exchange server we run on SBS is the same Exchange server powering hundreds of hosted email providers -it makes sense why autodiscover doesn't provide the domain\username (imagine what a mess that would be!)
    3) I understand it's a little bit time consuming but it can actually be done for all users in a matter of seconds, select all users, right click and go to Properties, you can then choose the UPN Suffix for all users. When a new user gets created one of the
settings in the wizard is the UPN suffix and is easily changeable as long as you notate for the person creating the user to do it. (The problem here is if you're using the SBS Console instead of AD to setup the User in which case that's just an oversight
in design not a bug in the programming)
    4) You can most certainly have a powershell script that changes the UPN suffix from A to B, let me know if you're interested I'll dig one up for you. That can be run on a scheduled task and will solve the remaining issues you have :)
I do see you mentioned it in number 3, I must have missed since I didn't re-read the OP before posting the article, however I just tested on several SBS 2011 machines and OWA authentication settings don't have to be changed at all, this worked immediately
for Outlook Anywhere and Outlook Web Access in my lab and two different customer production systems.

I think these services are related to WSUS and WSUS is related tot SBS Console. Do i have to re-install WSUS? reinstallation of WSUS on a SBS server, I think that is very risky. What do you think?

    Hello,
I've installed VDI 3.1 EA and i am trying to configure user directory using sbs 2008,
previously i established a connection to win 2000 AD but but when i change the krb5.conf
to connect to sbs 2008 i can connect through command line with kinit -V and
nslookup but in the wizard i get an error: unable to contact user directory.
    any suggestions?
    thank in advance,
    -Michael.

    Hi,
after changing the Kerberos config file you need to restart the Common Agent Container:
    cacaoadm stop --force
    cacaoadm start
This page gives you instructions to find more details about an error with the directory:
    http://wikis.sun.com/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=171840712
    log file is /var/cacao/instances/default/logs/cacao.0

  • SBS 2008 Mail Database missing after recovery. What to do?

SBS 2008 went into the rebooting loop.... I've tried all I can to resolve it and had no luck. The last option was to recover which I did successfully except the mailbox database.
After restoring the Server I looked at the DB and they were dismounted when I tried to mount them I got an error saying Can't find database Exchange can create a new one....
I can access the old server in safe mode. Can I just take the db file and move it and mount it on the new recovered server? Or it's not as easy as move the DB and mount it?
    Thanks for the help.
This topic first appeared in the Spiceworks Community

    Dear user13148231,
You can check the SCN of the database but i think if the area that you store archivelogs for the standby database is full and the replication was stopped, you have lost the synchronization.
Compare the SCN of the both databases and see if the standby database is up-to-date or not. If it is not, you have to take an incremental backup up to that SCN from the primary database and apply it to the standby database. The archivelog gap will be closed and the sync will continue to move on.
Once the database can not have the archivelogs on the system, it can not apply them. However, if you still have the missed archivelogs on the primary database you may register them manually and the gap would be closed again.
Please see the Oracle data dictionary views to have the necessary information.

  • SBS 2008 Update Rollup 3 install fails

The install pauses saying that Windows SBS Manager is using a file and needs to be stopped. Options are: Stop the service or Don't stop the service (a reboot may be required). Either option leads to a failure. The Event Viewer message is attached.
I finally disabled the service before running the install. The result was the same.

    Hi Douglas Rost,
I can find that you have created
a similar thread before. Just confirm if the question in current thread is the same as that one. If same, I will merge this one to that thread, and then discussion with you there.
In addition, would you please let me know whether you can install this update rollup via Windows SBS Update
Services? Before installation, please close all applications including the Windows SBS Console.
    Meanwhile, please run
Windows SBS Best Practices Analyzer (BPA) and check if you can find some clues.

  • Upgrading exchange but want to leave SBS 2008 server in place.

    Hello TechNet
I would like to install an exchange 2013 server in my organization, currently i have a sbs 2008 server. I would like to keep the remote user functionality of sbs but upgrade the exchange. If that's not possible i am still upgrading exchange. Does anyone
have a best practice steps for moving from SBS 2008 to exchange 2013. Should i just fallow the upgrade path from exchange 2007 to exchange 2013? The server i'm installing exchange on is a AD server on the domain currently and is running Windows server 2012.
Thanks in advance for any advice or help.

We went that route as a stop gap when hardware constrained us: SBS 2008 successfully virtualised on a 2012 R2 Hyper-V host.  It was not all plain sailing. Having shut down and disabled all the services on the physical SBS2008,
we used the Sysinternals disk2vhd tool to get two vhds (C: was system, E: was all the data including Exchange info stores), converted to vhdx using 2012.R2 Hyper-V manager and built a VM using these vhdxs.  It booted at first but then
froze at restart after the Hyper-V host tools were automatically installed. We found a work round which involved running the MS System Update and recovery Tool (SURT) after the VM initial boot and before any subsequent VM restart.  Once services
were put back to normal, the virtualised SBS 2008 ran fine.
There is some doubt as to whether this is a supported configuration, and it will not be easy to configure robust backups (see
this thread). However, our SBS2008 VM has been running for over a year in this configuration and am just now planning a move to Office 365 integrated Exchange with onsite Exchange 2013 plus virtualised 2012.R2 DC as per Larry's first reply.
Good luck which ever way you go, and tread carefully!

  • SBS 2008 and Exchange 2007 intermittent Email Issues

    Hello
I am having an issue with my SBS 2008 Server and Exchange 2007.  After setup, the mail seems to work great for about a week, then the mail just quits working.  To get it working again, all I have to do is reboot the server and mail starts working
again.  When looking in the event logs, all I come across is transport.exe errors.  Any ideas on why it works for 5-10 days, then just quits working?  Any help or insight would be much appreciated.

  • SBS 2008 & Forefront Exchange 2010

Uninstalled the Forefront for Exchange that ships with SBS 2008 and installed the new Forefront 2010 for Exchange.  Everything works great but I have a problem with the SBS Console alert.  In Forefront Exchange 2010, the Forefront engine takes over the anti-SPAM function from Exchange and that is a good thing, but now the inherent SBS 2008 console has an error message under SECURITY for "Spam protection for E-Mail" as CRITICAL.  I know what the problem is but I do not know how to disable the alert.  Now that Excahnge is no longer handling anti-SPAM, the SBS server sees the function inactive and issues an alert sice it is unaware that that role is now filled by the Forefront 2010 anti-spam engine.  Is there a method do disable the SBS Consoel alert on the SECURITY tab?  Everything is working great with Forefront Exchange 2010 on SBS 2008 other than this little alert that is bugging me.
Thanks to anyone out there that has any insight on this...

    GaryD9, on this thread:
    http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/smallbusinessserver/thread/67eea70a-5ed8-49ae-ba06-6abb2673f38e
posted a detailed answer which worked for me, as far as the Console alert goes. It doesn't fix the emailed reports. I'll copy it here incase that thread becomes unavailable:
the CAUSE of the error is that the MS Exchange "content filter" is turned off in favor of the forefront content filter when forefront is installed.  The SBS console is still looking at the Exchange filter status (which is now off) and is generating an
error.  On my SBS 2011 server, the cause of this is a file named "E12AntiSpam.xml" in the "C:\Program Files\Windows Small Business Server\Data\SHExtensions" directory.  Within that file, there is probably a line such as
    $(Get-TransportAgent "Content Filter Agent").Enabled
The fix can be as simple as changing the line to:
    $(Get-TransportAgent "FSE Content Filter Agent").Enabled
(just inserting "FSE " in the front of the agent name)
It should be noted that you can't edit this file unless you open it from Notepad after right clicking
on the shortcut for Notepad and selecting "Run as Administrator". Also, you won't see any changes until you close and re-open the Windows SBS Console.
I'm a little concerned that removing the FSE.XML file (as proposed on the SBS forum) may stop ALL error
reporting rather than just changing the source from the regular content filter to the Forefront version. This solution of editing the E12AntiSpam.XML file seems a safer bet.

  • Is it possible to manually setup a Folder Redirection Policy on SBS 2008 for one user? Also are you able to set up folder redirection on a different server than you have SBS 2008 on?

I have a SBS 2008 DC I would like to be able to change the Folder Redirection to a different server.  I also would like to be able to test with one user.  I read on the forums that it is best to use the wizards for SBS2008.  The only problem
I have with using the wizards is that I am unable to test and I am also unable to use a network share for my redirection location.

    Hi,
I am sure you would get some help from :
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2010/10/08/folder-redirection-in-small-business-server-2008.aspx

    User setting can be found:
Windows SBS Console > Shared Folders and Web Sites > Shared Folders - in Tasks panel click on Redirect folders for user accounts to the server.
Under Folder Names Select folder(s) you want to redirect (e.g. Documents).
Under User Accounts select accounts you want to have folders redirected.
    Click OK

  • Problem connecting to MS Exchange 2007 on SBS 2008

I am having problems connecting to Exchange via cfexchangeconnection. Our ColdFusion environment is CF9 Enterprise on Win 2008, and the Exchange host is Win SBS 2008 (which uses IIS7).
After having worked through the documentation and following all procedures outlined at
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ColdFusion/9.0/Developing/WSc3ff6d0ea77859461172e0811cbec14f31 -7fed.html
plus googling intensively, we have the following method to test the connection
    <cfexchangeconnection action="open"
             connection="thisExchangeConnection"
             server="portal.mydomain.com"
             protocol="https"
             formBasedAuthentication="true"
             formBasedAuthenticationURL="https://portal.mydomain.com/owa/auth/owaauth.dll"
             mailboxname="myMailBox"
             username="myUsername"
             password="myPassword" />
    <cfdump var="#thisExchangeConnection#">
    <cfexchangeconnection action="close"
             connection="thisExchangeConnection" />
The IIS7 implementation in SBS 2008 is quite a lot different to Win 2008, so there are some question marks around some steps in the above documentation. However, we have made sure that:-
    1) you can use the credentials above to login via a web browser
    2) WebDav is on in IIS
    3) there is no IWA and forms based authentication is on
    4) certificates are installed correctly on both the CF and Exchange servers
    5) the myUsernameaccount has correct permissions in iis/owa/exchange
Despite this, the net result is always
Access to the Exchange server denied.
Ensure that the user name and password are correct.
From research it seems that a lot of people have issues where the underlying problem is actually an Exchange 440 timeout error where the password in the IUSR_<servername> and IWAM_<servername> (IIS/Active Directory) is out of sync.
I was pinning my hopes on the above being the problem but now I find that in SBS 2008 there is no IWAM_<servername> server account.
All this leads me to ask is SBS 2008 actually compatible with the cfexchange tags in CF9? There is nothing in the documentation that I can find that syays that it isn't, but given the amount of time we've spent on what should be straightforward I am wondering if we are on a hiding to nothing. Anyone from Adobe care to comment?
If anyone has managed to get this to work specifically with SBS 2008, or has any advice I'd be grateful to here from you.

    Hi,
As said by Sneff , I would also recommend to enable Logging to get more detailed information. Also follow
Configuration of POP/IMAP on SBS 2008 Refer to :
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2008/09/19/how-to-configure-sbs-2008-to-host-pop3-imap4.aspx
    http://blogs.technet.com/b/sbs/archive/2011/08/31/how-to-configure-outlook-for-pop3-imap-and-smtp-connectivity-in-sbs-2008-2011-standard.aspx
As per the error code, you need to follow
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/813514/EN-US
I would also disable AV on both Client machine and TEST , including the Filters of AV.

(Server 2008 Standard FE).  My ultimate goal is to completely remove the SBS 2008 Server from the network environment.
We have an Exchange 2010 Coexistence Scenario and Mailboxes/Public Folders/etc have been moved over to the 2010 mail server, on Server 2008 R2.
I have moved all Shares, FSMO roles, DHCP, DNS, etc over to their respective servers.  We have two full blown DC's in the environment.
I'm ready to remove Exchange 2007 from SBS 2008 and DCPROMO the server.  I can NOT seem to find a TechNet article that shows me how
to proceed in this kind of scenario.  I am trying to use the TechNet article:
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/dd728003(v=ws.10).aspx
This article references Disabling Mailboxes, Removing OAB, Removing Public Folder Databases, then uninstalling Exchange using the Setup Wizard.
When I go to Disable Mailboxes I get the following error:
    Microsoft Exchange Error
Action 'Disable' could not be performed on object 'Username (edited)'.
    Username (edited)
    Failed
    Error:
Object cannot be saved because its ExchangeVersion property is 0.10 (14.0.100.0), which is not supported by the current version 0.1 (8.0.535.0). You will need a later version of Exchange.
    OK
I really don't see why I need to Disable Mailboxes, Remove OAB and Public Folder Databases since they have been moved to 2010.  I just want
to remove Exchange 2007 and DCPROMO this server (actually I just want to remove any lingering Exchange AD Objects referring to the SBS 2008 Server, using the easiest and cleanest method possible).
Can someone point me in the right direction?
    Thanks!

    Hi,
Based on your description, it seems that you are in a migration process (migrate SBS 2008 to Windows Server
2008 R2). Now, you want to remove Exchange Server and demote server. If anything I misunderstand, please don’t hesitate to let me know.
On current situation, please refer to following articles and check if can help you.

  • Excessive downloads by an SBS 2008 client bogging down network

Hello.  I have been trying to find the source of a vexing problem on my Small Business 2008 network.  It only seems to affect 2 computers and only while logged in.  One of them is mine, a Windows 8.1 Pro client computer.
The bottom line is my computer is downloading, continuously from the server at two different levels.  One I have lived with for a long time, where I my computer uploads and downloads from the server at 1.5Mbps.
The second, and more concerning, is where it downloads from the server at anywhere from 25-110Mbps.  This occurs about 50% of the time.  I run NetSpeed Monitor so I can track the traffic.  This morning alone, it has downloaded over 320GB from
the server and we have a very small server with only 3 GB on the data drive.  This is not a problem on most other stations in the network.  Only 1 other computer, a laptop, has a similar problem on this scale and I leave it logged off for now.
I can't find any sign of malware on my client computer and scan regularly (with Kaspersky Small Office Security 3).
All of this network traffic is found under one process in both the client computer and the server, System PID 4.  I can provide screen shots if it will help.
Our network performance with the SBS 2008 file server is poor and I think this is contributing.
Please let me know what additional information I can provide to help solve this problem.  I tried Process Explorer, but that provided no useful info.  I'm wondering if it's a rogue service.
The problem is not evident when I first login, but it appears within a few minutes.
Thank you for any suggestions to try,
    Mike
