SBWM and Netgear DG834G fails to connect prope

I have seen the various KB articles on this. My SBWM can see the SSID of the router. I get to the point of getting it to connect and if I specify the IP address for the SBWM I see it as an attached device on the router (I can actually ping the SBWM) however the SBWM itself fails with a communications error.
I note that the router does not see the Name of the SBWM.
Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else I can try. I lift all firewall rules and have UPnP enabled. Still, it does not work.
Thanks

Well, I've answered my own question. I started thinking about the fact that although the router could ping the SBWM receiver, my computer could not. I then checked whether I could ping the router - I couldn't
I then looked at the error code (65) for the ping, and Microsoft were quite clear that it was something to do with Zonealarm. Although I had disabled Zonealarm, it still seems something of it was hanging around. So I uninstalled it.
I rebooted and presto! I could ping the router and the SBWM from my computer - the router now has the firewall logic.
So the problem was that I had not followed the KBase article well enough (it advised disabling everything and then working up from there). My mistake! No to see how this baby works!

  • AX and Netgear DG834G

    Hi,
I currently connect to the internet using my aiport card and Netgear DG834G.
Any chance of connecting via AX instead but using the Netgear product to extend my range at home?

It is absolutely not possible to use your Netgear router to wirelessly extend the wireless range of an Airport Express. And no, it won't work the other way around either. The only way you can connect these two devices together is via an ethernet cable - which I suspect is not what you had in mind.

  • Airport Extreme and Netgear DG834G v2 very slow

    Hi,
I've just bought an iMac 17" dual core and I'm having problems with slow download speeds when connecting to my wireless network: I have an Airport Extreme card and a wireless ADSL Netgear DG834G v2 router. All my machines on this network all have acceptable download speed but when I use my mac, the download speed is very poor. For example, I tried to download a file on my XP machine and got a rate of ~250kb/sec but when I use the mac, I get ~40kb/sec. In general, internet browsing on the mac is very slow.
    Things I've tried:
    1) Plugged the mac into ethernet and that is working fine so the wireless connection seems to be the problem.
    2) Put the XP machine and mac (both working wirelessly) at the same location - the mac is considerably slower than the xp machine.
    3) I've downloaded and installed all the latest updates and firmware for the mac but this has made no difference.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what I can try next?
    Regards

Since 10.4.3 my iChat stopped working. During starting up the application would simply close down without any error message. On the discussion forum it was suggested to startup from terminal with debug switched on. This produced the following error:

  • Time Capsule 4 and Netgear DG834G router.

Hi - help required please! . I've replaced by old Time Capsule with a shiny new 4th generation, but cant seem to get it playing with my original Netgear router. I had previously had two wireless networks running - one from the router and one from the time capsule. With the new TC this seems to give all sorts of conflict problems. Rather than trying the bridge mode I thought I would disable the Netgear wireless network and use it just as a modem. I got as far as then creating a new wireless network just on the time capsule, got the magic green light going ... but no Internet access for my Mac! There must be some settings that I need to change, but after two hours on the phone to Netgear they could not work it out.
Does anybody here know how to finalise this set up/
    With thanks in advance ..

Does the Time Capsule reside on the same sub-net as the Router. e.g. do the first 3 numbers in the IP address the same 192.168.0.xxx.
Have you told the Time Capsule that the DNS Server is the IP Address of the router?
I would setup the IP Address on the Time Capsule to be static, and disable the DCHP server.
I don't have a Time Capsule but this what I would do.
    Router
    IP Address 192.168.0.1 (default)
    Router Sub Net 255.255.255.0
    Router LAN settings
    DHCP Server Enabled, Range 192.168.0.20 - 192.168.0.80
    Time Capsule
    IP Address 192.168.0.2
    Subnet 255.255.255.0
    DNS 192.168.0.1
    DHCP Disabled
Hope you get this going. I have issues with the DG834G and third party Time Capsules, do good luck

  • Ethernet MAC address has changed and I can no longer connect to the network

I have a new iMac, 21.5" running 10.6.4. It was purchased in the past month.
I am using it on an ethernet network and using DHCP to obtain the address. It has been working for the past few weeks. I turned it on today and it is failing to connect. After some digging around, it seems that the MAC address (Ethernet ID) has been reset to 00:10:18:00:00:00. This is different to the one it has been using last week.
I have not changed any network settings. Airport is working fine.
If I pull out the ethernet cable and reinsert, the machine tries to obtain an IP address. After a while, it returns with a self-assigned IP Address.
Last week, I did notice that it was taking a relatively long time (a minute or so) to obtain the IP address over ethernet. Plugging the same ethernet cable in a macbook, I am able to obtain the IP address for the macbook much more quickly.
I see that I could use ipconfig to change the interface address to what I believe is the correct address. Would this be sensible?
Why would the machine have reset the MAC address anyway?
    Regards,
    Neil

    Dear all,
I am having the same problem with a new MacBook Pro, bought end of October - for me it became apparent for software (Matlab, Comsol) that are registered with a licence file which was created based on the MAC address, and also when trying to register the computer to the company network. That software will only work those times that the computer "knows" its real MAC. Also, I found that audible audio books, managed through itunes, will not synchronize with the ipod at those times when the MAC address is at the producer's default (00:10:15:00:00). I never had network issues other than this computer registration, - no probs at home or elsewhere - , so it will depend on the individual setup which issue users observe.
I have had long phone discussions with different Apple support people, they have done checks based on Capture Data that I sent to them via email, etc.. They can't find the problem in the software/setup and they advised me to go the Genius Bar and have those guys look at the computer's guts.
Restarting sometimes did set the MAC to the real one, also running the code that someone suggested in Terminal sometimes helped.
Other than that, looking through the web, it does not seem to be an Apple-unique problem, but certainly one would like to see support to take care of that issue for Macs soon.
Also, thanks a lot for this thread! Otherwise the support guys on the phone would not have believed my : "the Mac address changes on a daily basis" and would just have brushed me off.
    All the best,
    Susanne

    I need some help.

OK. First off, the D_DWH is correct in the referencing of your AW. The reference that you are seeing is the metadata manager definition of the analytic workspace. It appends the D_ by default.
An excerpt and some code from the online help...
Most classes that extend oracle.dss.metadataManager.common.MDObject are client-side representations of objects that exist in an analytic workspace. To find the analytic workspace name for an object, use the following methods of MDObject: isAWObject -- Determines whether an object is a logical representation of an analytic workspace data object getAWObjectName -- Retrieves the analytic workspace name for an object Example: Retrieving the analytic workspace name for an object The following code assumes that myObject is an existing MDObject. //Confirms that an MDObject is a logical representation of
//an analytic workspace object and then prints the object's name.
    public void printAWObjectName (MDObject myObject)
    if (myObject.isAWObject())
    system.out.println ("AWObjectName = " +
    myObject.getAWObjectName());
That being said, here is the trick to verifying the internal metadata name for the AW objects.
Knowing this, I'm going to guess that naming your dimension D_TIME may not be the best idea as this may confuse the MDM. Rename the dimension and give it another shot.

  • Apple TV fails to connect to WPA-protected wireless network

Tried different settings and it always fails to connect. It does display a code of -3 ... does anybody know what that code means?
If I disable WPA in my wireless router, and remove the WPA key configuration from my Apple TV, than the connection succeeds and I have done that for brief periods of time but cannot keep it that way.
    Any insights?

BTW, my wireless router is configured for WPA Personal (no Radius), Pre-shared-key, TKIP (AES does not seem to be an option).

  • Hi there, I have just bought an ipad4 but it will not connect to my internet. I have tried every suggestion going to no avail. My netgear DG834g router is fairly old , do you think this is the problem? I am at a loss now and very frustrated!

Hi there, I have just bought my first ipad4 and have spent all weekend trying to connect to the internet. I have tried all Apple suggestions to no avail
. My Netgear DG834g router is a few years old now. Do you think this may be the problem? Do they have compatibility issues after a while? My ipad upgrade is IOs 6. I am at a loss what else to do and needless to say extremely frustrated!
    Thanks.

First check that your router has its latest firmware.
    Some things to try first:
    1. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
    2. Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.
    3. Change the channel on your wireless router (Auto or Channel 6 is best). Instructions at http://macintoshhowto.com/advanced/how-to-get-a-good-range-on-your-wireless-netw ork.html
    4. Go into your router security settings and change from WEP to WPA with AES.
    5.  Renew IP Address: (especially if you are droping internet connection)
        •    Launch Settings app
        •    Tap on Wi-Fi
        •    Tap on the blue arrow of the Wi-Fi network that you connect to from the list
        •    In the window that opens, tap on the Renew Lease button

I've got a Netgear DG834G Wireless Modem router and an Airport Extreme and would like to get them talking to each other - which I thought I did last night ! - so i can have the ADSL connection in one room shared out over wireless to the AE connected to a G4 via one of it's ethernet ports ...
I have read that the Airport Express and a Netgear device is not compatible with Apple's WDS - does that apply to the Extreme as well ?
Is that correct as when I checked the log on the airport it had made a connection with the netgear but I couldn't for the life of me organise a proper network between them !
    Any suggestions appreciated...
I've been using the Airport for ages so not a real newbie... BUT... getting them to do what I want is proving an interesting project !

Personally I wouldn't go for a USB adaptor as they are pretty ropey at best. You can get Wireless to Ethernet bridges that join an existing wireless network and provide an ethernet connection. They don't require WDS support as they pretend to be a client on the wireless network. Netgear even do one (allthough as you probably guessed I'm not a keen Netgear supporter).
The other possibility is if it is a G4 desktop that has PCI slots a Broadcom based PCI wireless card will be automatically recognised as an Airport Extreme card by OSX and can be picked up cheap on eBay.

  • Netgear DG834G Problem connecting iMAC G5

    Hi,
Wondered if anyone could assist me in this.
Netgear Router DG834G / 3 Pcs all set up on Network / added a iMac G5 (Intel/10.4.4) at w/e but with problems - mainly it says it is connected to Netgear but will there is no connection to the internet (when going into Safari).
Stumped by this - I have set TCP/IP address etc ip (192.168.0.5) etc...it is connecting to the Netgear router - but that's as far as it goes.
I have connected via the ethernet cable from the iMac to Netgear DG834G Router - this works fine but knocks off all the other PCs connections. (The connection is still registered (i.e.signal present) but will not log on to any sites etc.
If you can suggest anything it would be much appreciated - I am completely stuck !
    Many Thanks in Advance.

Hughxxx, Welcome to the discussion area!
    ...added a iMac G5 (Intel/10.4.4)...
You do not have an iMac G5. You have an Intel iMac. Those are discussed in the iMac > iMac (Early 2006) > Internet, Networking and your iMac discussion area.
...I have set TCP/IP address etc ip (192.168.0.5)...
Why did you not use DHCP? Try that.
What you are describing is usually a DNS problem. Setting the Network preference to DHCP should solve it. If not see KB 106798, Mac OS: Troubleshooting "A connection failure has occurred", "The specified server could not be found" or Similar Messages.

  • Netgear DG834G and WPA

I am currently using a Netgear DG834G wireless ADSL router with WEP and a PowerBook G4. I am trying to use WPA instead of WEP but I am having no luck. I switch the router over to WPA-PSK and set a password, I then try and connect to it from the PB using WPA Personal but just get an error message on the PowerBook, 'error trying to connect to network'. Currently I have SSID turned off, the router has the latest software installed as does the PowerBook. Is it possible to use WPA with a Netgear DG834G and a Mac PB?
WEP is working with no problems.

I encountered this same problem on my Intel Mac when I did the upgrade to 10.4.9. My Netgear router worked fine before the upgrade. I haven't seen anyone with this problem on a G4 before, but there have been lots of reports of problems with Intels. Are you really running 10.4.1 as it says in your footer?
Anyway, here is the only workaround I have found: Go into the router and disable password protection. Mine now works. I'm hoping that Apple will fix the problem, but apparently hasn't happened yet.

  • Netgear DG834G and time capsule

I've ordered a Netgear DG834G and a Time Capsule. Since the Netgear has only G capability while the TC has N, I wonder if it will be possible to use the Netgear connected to the TC at its full bandwidth for HD sharing. I've seen similar posts on this board but haven't understood about this specific question. Thanks.

Yes, this can be accomplished and it is known as a "dual-band" network. You can set it up by either having the Netgear or Time Capsule (TC) directly connected to your modem. As an example, I will assume that you will have the Netgear connected to the modem. In this case, you will connect the TC directly to one of the available LAN ports on the Netgear using an Ethernet cable and connect this cable to the TC's WAN port. The TC will need to be reconfigured as a bridge to allow the Netgear to provide both NAT & DHCP services for both routers' clients.
You will then give each wireless network a unique Network Name/SSID and configure both to operate in different radio modes. In this configuration, "n" clients would connect to the TC and "g" clients would connect to the Netgear.

  • Netgear DG834G and Airport Express

    Hello,
Can anyone help me? I've just upgraded to a Netgear DG834g Wireless ADSL router. This is connected via ethernet to my G5, and my iBook and girlfriends Powerbook connect to it wirelessley.
Setting all this up took minutes. So far so good.
BUT, I cannot get this to talk to my Airport Express.
In the Netgear setup, I have added the AE to the 'Trusted' list (I used the MAC address on the side of the AE unit), but nothing will detect it.
I've tried using Airport Setup utility on both the iBook and the Powerbook but neither device can see it.
The amber light on the AE just flashes. I've even done a factory reset on it, but still no joy.
I've read through some posts on here and I can see that folks have managed to get these two devices talking to each other, but what I want to know is How? Have I missed something obvious?
    Please help....
BTW, I'm using OS X 10.4.2 on all machines.
    Many thanks

Panic over - the AE needed a hard reset, and re-configuring through Netgear set up, and AE setup utility.
    All working fine now.

  • Netgear DG834G Connection to Network

I can connect wirelessly to the network if it's unprotected, but I cannot get it to accept the password - it always says "failed to connect". Any ideas?

Sounds like you are using WEP.
I would advise changing to WPA.
One of the problems with WEP is that the actual standard relies on a 10 character HEX key for 40bit WEP and a 26 character HEX key for 128bit WEP.
In order to make things easier for people, vendors use certain algorithms to convert simple alphanumeric passwords (or passphrases) into HEX keys, thus enabling people to use simple memorable WEP password rather than lengthy HEX keys.
The problem is that different vendors use different algorithms to generate the HEX key and therefore a ASCII password on an AEBS will be hashed differently on a Netgear client and vice versa.
One thing is a 13 character 128 bit WEP password will be hashed by all vendors in the same way (if you use 40bit WEP then a 5 character password is required).
Though sometimes not even that works and the HEX key must be used regardless, this is nearly always the case with Netgear routers.

"WPA Personal" on the Mac corresponds to plain WPA, with a pre-shared key (PSK) and TKIP encryption, on non-Apple wireless routers. The same alphanumeric password should work on both.
