Scale 9 Grid Question

Aren't the 8 "outer" areas in a scale9 gride supposed to remain the same size independent of the scale? And the inner section is only supposed to scale? Flash CS4 definitely doesn't do it this way, but I always thought that's how scale9 slices are supposed to function, so that your edges, and corners always look beautified.

BUT, you can sidestep this by using the Combine Objects > Union tool on the vector gradient areas in the "outer" slices. Thanks for the help !

Grid questions (noob here, so pardon my stupidity)

i am making an RPG game (relly cheap game) and i wanted to know, how do u put images in a grid format, like can u do that with a JPanel? also, in a grid layout in JFrame, can u put images in it? can u overlay the images with a JPanel with a transparent background? my code is going to be similar witht he marine biology case study(i have a locatable class, location class, etc)

Did you read the link on Using Layout managers? Did you read the section on Using Labels?
You create a JPanel and assign it a GridLayout. Then you create a label add a picture to it and then add the label to the panel.
Did you look at the code I gave you for drawing an image on a panel? You specify the x, y coordinates when you draw the image. So there is no reason you couldn't change the code to draw multiple images beside one another. The question is why would you go to all that effort when the LayoutManager does this for you.

Rating Scale (Likeart) question slide

Hello cp experts!
I wish to use the Question slide 'Rating Scale (likert)' at the end on the presentation to provide a feedback.
Is it possible to report the student selection to LMS and view statistics over time? if so, how do I do that?

If your LMS is truly SCORM-compliant, you should be able to track the Likert questions. Be sure to choose 'completed/incomplete' in the SCORM setup, not pass/fail, since there's no score associated with such questions.
The ability to report on those results and see any trends is, as others have said, completely dependent on your LMS capabilities and features.

Illustrator CS6 beta GRID question.

Can someone who is beta-testing Illustrator CS6.. Does it yet allow you to change the grid to Thousandths?
I use Illustrator with CADtools plugin for architectural drafting. I need to adopt a drawing to 1/8 (.125) or 3/8 (.375) scale. As it is, CS5 can only change it to .12-.13, or .37-.38 respectively. This throws off the scale of the floor plan.

PS, I did put in a request when both CS4 and CS5 were out, so hopefully this was looked into. With the increased power and features of Illustrator, allowing draftsman to use it as a CAD program would be very beneficial.

People might actually start complaining if they get to see the 14+ accurate decimals *everywhere*' as that is what Illustrator does its internal calculations with.
Actually, Illustrator's internal calculations are far worse than that, and it's a reason Illustrator doesn't show a lot of digits.
The main problem is that all coordinates in Illustrator are represented internally in the rather awkward units of 1/2048 of a point. While convenient from a binary standpoint (11 bits for the fraction), this value -- suppose we call it a 'zip' -- means that many values, both in points and in other units like mm, cannot be represented precisely.
Since there are 2048 zips in a point, and 72 points in an inch, there are 2048*72 = 147456 zips/inch. Values like 0.25in (36864 zips), 0.125in (18432 zips),and 0.0625in (9216 zips) can all be exactly represented. But something like 0.1in cannot, since it would be 14745.6 zips and the number of zips must be integral. The closest we can come is 14746 zips, or 0.10000271267in.
Millimeters are even worse, since even 1mm cannot be exactly represented in zips (1mm would be 5805.35433071 zips; we must be content with 5805 zips, or 0.999938965mm). 0.125mm (725.66929 zips) gets changed to 0.125056966mm (726 zips).
Generally the values in Illustrator are shown in the user interface rounded to three digits, so you don't notice the slight inaccuracies. They're still there, though. For example, draw a 0.125mm square and scale it to 10000% -- the resulting square will be 12.506mm, not 12.5mm.

Newbie Grid Questions - Windows 2008 v11gr2

Hi all
As stated I am completely new to Oracle and have managed to do an single instance install and am now attempting a Grid and then RAC install.
I have created 2 VMs and 5 disks. During the Grid install I stamped the disks so that they could be used for ASM and put them all in a disk group called Data. I selected External redundancy.
In the previous documentation I have seen that during the Grid install you select where to put your voting files and OCR files but this never happened for me, is this correct? Also how can I check I have clusterware installed correctly? The documentation says that the verification utility runs automatically and I think this happened as the Grid install completed successfully.
One concept I am having troubles with is if the clusterware is installed as part of Grid then why do we need RAC?
My questions are probably very general and cover a lot, but any help in the right direction would be appreciated.

In the previous documentation I have seen that during the Grid install you select where to put your voting files and OCR files but this never happened for me, is this correct?If you selected to Oracle ASM as the storage option for the OCR and voting disk files, then the Oracle Automatic Storage Management Configuration Assistant (ASMCA) configures Oracle ASM as part of the installation process.
If you did not select Oracle ASM as the storage option for the Oracle Clusterware files, then you must start ASMCA manually after installation to configure Oracle ASM.
There are two ways of storing the shared Oracle Clusterware files:
Oracle ASM: You can install Oracle Clusterware files (OCR and voting disks) in Oracle ASM disk groups.
OCFS for Windows: OCFS for Windows is the only other supported cluster file system that you can use to storage of Oracle Clusterware and Oracle RAC files on Microsoft Windows platforms.
Starting with Oracle Database 11g release 2 (11.2) and Oracle RAC 11g release 2 (11.2), using DBCA or OUI to store Oracle Clusterware or Oracle Database files on raw devices is not supported.
Also how can I check I have clusterware installed correctly? The documentation says that the verification utility runs automatically and I think this happened as the Grid install completed successfully.You can use Cluster Verification Utility.
The cluvfy stage -post crsinst command to check the specified nodes after installing Oracle Clusterware.

Scale out question: how does instance name affect primary/secondary node

Hi:
OBIEE 11.1.1.6.4, Windows 2008
On a test instance the following happened:
1. Enterprise install of OBIEE 11g had problems
2. Reinstalled OBIEE 11g, but the installer created an instance2
3. All was well with this install
4. Performed all necessary shared catalog and RPD steps
5. On a second server, installed OBIEE 11g using the scale-out option
6. On second server, this created an instance1 directory
7. All components start up and we can log into OBIEE using either server1 or server2
Question:
Does OBIEE use the instance names in a scale-out? Our primary node is instance2 and the secondary node is instance1, though on a separate server. Will this cause a problem?

Please help: large scale Printing question

A Client asked me to do a backdrop for a play that is 10' high by 18' wide. She wont give me the number of where shes getting it printed from for some stupid reason so i cant ask them directly, my question which is this: What size and format should my photoshop file be in for large scale printing like that? Right now my file is 10" high by 18" wide and 300dpi. and its a Psd right now of course. Any help would be awesome.

Basically, when scaled the artwork has identical appearences at identical proportional distances (looks as if it has the same resolution); in other words: when you look at a 1:1 print of your present 10x18" artwork at a certain distance, the 10x18' backdrop will look the same to the audience/actors/instructor/whoever at 12 times the distance, so if it looks nice to you at 1' or 1.5' or2', it will look just as nice to them at 12' or 15' or 18'.

Several windows and grid questions

Hello, I have a couple of Swing related questions that follow:
Q 1)
Imagine I'm writing a basic GUI that has 2 "windows": the main window and the about box window. Basicly there's a JMenu with a JMenuItem that has an action that will set the about box visibility to true.
My question is: what's the most correct way to do this?
a) declare both windows in the Gui constructor, having the main window's visibility set to true and the about box window visibility set to false, changing that visibility inside a actinPerformed () method
b) declare the main window in the Gui constructor, and then creating the about box window inside the actionPerformed method, when the MenuItem is selected
c) other. please explain
Q 2)
Is there any way to automaticly draw a grid within a JFrame or does it have to be done with Graphics' drawRect, drawLine and so on?

Install 11gr2 grid question

Hi I will be installing 11gr2 on rhel6 and have a question.
Since I need to install the gird infrastructure for before the rdbms and the grid infrastructure will be installed using the user grid as opposed to the oracle user id I am wanting to know if I need to configured multiple Oracle_base directories?
I usually would just create /u01/app/oracle and set that as the oracle_base. Can I use that for grid(infrastructure) and oracle (rdbms) for both installations. I have read the install guides and unfortunately it is still unclear to me. I am planning to install rac database.

In 11gr2, Grid infrastructure software contains both clusterware and ASM.
Prior to 11g, we used to have 3 ORACLE_HOMES one for cluster, ASM and rdbms.
For eg:
In 11g r2, Your RAC binaries set up could be like this:
Grid Infrastructure Software (Clusterware + ASM 11.2.0.1):
Server: on all RAC nodes
ORACLE_BASE: /u01/app/grid
ORACLE_HOME: /u01/app/grid112
Owner: grid (Primary Group: oinstall, Secondary Group: asmadmin, asmdba)
Oracle Database Software (RAC 11.2.0.1):
Server: on all RAC nodes
ORACLE_BASE: /u01/app/oracle
ORACLE_HOME: /u01/app/oracle/db112

give the reference fieldname in the fieldcatalog for that field and also roll name and checkout if it works
wa_fieldcat-rollname = 'LGART'.

Rating Scale: Likert Question

Hi
I've been able to change the options available, and even delete options I don't want included in the scale.
Why does a number appear in the scale?
E.G. My options are:
Most prefer
Somewhat prefer
Neutral
But when I look at the quiz slide, it's become:
1. Most prefer
2. Somewhat prefer
3. Neutral
I don't want the numbers at all, or if I need it for scoring in the LMS, I don't want the numbers displayed on the slide. I can't see where to turn this off or on.
Can someone help?

The rating scale can't support multiple selections per row. You would have to use the multiple choice field (though its not a table layout).

Responsive Design/Grid Question

I'm using the fluid grid design, and my mobile layout has 5 columns, and some DIVS added - see below:
I'm trying to get my "LEFT PANE" using 2 columns, and my "RIGHT PANE" using 3 columns to the right of the left pane. You can see they are side by side above, but the right pane only takes up 2 columns.
As soon as I make the RIGHT COLUMN stretch to 3 columns, it moves it down below the left column, like below:
What am I doing wrong? Any help/tips/direction appreciated!

Offhand, I'd say you're not keeping your LayoutDivs inside the GridContainer Div. And your floated LayoutDivs are too wide to fit on the same row. There should be some gutter space between them. See screenshot below:

Data grid question

Yah I know you can set the color that appears when you roll
over the data grid with your mouse, but how do I disable the roll
over color change altogether? or at least make it
transparent.

By the way a very convenient tool when trying to make things
look right and sorting out colors, etc. is the Flex 2 Style
explorer at

- this lets you play around and find your style, so to speak.

Increase Horizontal Scale newbie question

Apologies in advance for asking this but ive spent a bit of time on it & cant work it out.
I have some text that that Ive added 2 key frames that will increase the scale BUT what I would also like to do is increase the horizontal scale so as to create the letters separating a little as they expand. (kerning)
Was hoping to get some assistance on what the best approach to achieve this would be?
