Scale-limited License and Cluster Testing

To Whom It May Concern:
I'm in the process of installing WLS 8.1 SP4 on 4 machines to try to learn how to setup a cluster. I'm using the installation CD that I received from the System Administration class. I realize that this CD installs BEA with a Scale-limited license.
I'm a little confused over the capibility of this license. Here's how your documentation describes it:
"Enables you to run a single WebLogic Server instance with a server capacity limited to approximately 3 percent of the full capacity of a production server with a production license. Restricts server capacity by limiting concurrent socket connections to a maximum of three connections. Requests for a fourth socket connection are blocked until a socket becomes free."
What confuses me is where it says a "single" server. Does this mean that I can't test clustering across multiple machines or does this mean that I can only run 1 instance of WLS on any machine? I understand the limitations concerning capacity and connections, that's understandable... I have no intention of running anything "production" wise with this license, I just want to become use to being an administrator... I recall in the class that we could've (we ended up not) clustered to another users machine, so I figured I could do this... Please help. Thanks :)

You don't need any special cluster license. You can use default one.
Remember only about 5 connections limitation per single server.

  • Weblogic 81 scale limited license questions

    Hi,
Is a scale limited license for SP2 compatible with SP3?
Also, the scale limited license "enables you to run a single WebLogic Server instance with a server capacity limited to approximately 3 percent of the full capacity of a production server."
How is the "full capacity of a production server" measured? Is it relative to the machine on which WL is being run, or measured against some "standard" value?
    Thanks!

I have installed 3 virtual machines of window's server 2003 with the host os as window's server 2003 itself also.
and i want to cluster fms there test it there .if it's ok there, then i will implement it for my company and if required ,
I have installed fms in these 4 machines including the host os .how would i cluster fms there and .
one problem is how do i load balance the edge servers.
i don't understand , what type of loadbalancing it requires.plz any one can help me step by step how to do that and what do i need to do that ,after that how test my fms cluster. i can't understand it. plz help me step by step , plzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.....help.....
we will get a licence version of fms.
But is it possible test fms cluster in trial version of fms software or not.if possible how many machines can be clustered.

  • Windows Server 2012 Standard License and VMs

    Hi,
With one Window server 2012 Standard activated license, I will get 2 VMs. So is there a limit with Windows Server 2012 standard license I can stack and the the number of VMs I can create on one server or across servers (virtual environment). Consider that
all Windows server 2012 standard licenses are activated. If there is no limit on VM creation by add Standard license then why did Microsoft come with Data center licenses with unlimited VMs.
How does the standard license work on Vmware environment. Is there a limit on the number for VMs that we can create.
    Please advise me.
    Thanks.

If i had one server 2012 standard with its key, i could run it as a vm but not as a virtual host without having the license right?
a single WS2012STD license, allows you to run a server machine (hardware), if that hardware has no more than 2 processors. In this case, you can run 2 VMs, each VM is running WS2012STD. You can also run WS2012STD as the host hypervisor via Hyper-V.
So, that's really 3 OS installations, on the same 2proc machine. The limitation is that the host hypervisor OS is only permitted to do Hyper-V stuff, it's not permitted to use that OS for anything other than hypervisor functions.
If you implement in this way, you would only have purchased a single license for WS2012STD, so you would only have a single key, so you would use that key for the 3 OS installations.
If i bought the single server 2012 standard license, i'd be able to install it as a Host and activate with the key and it'd give me rights to run 2vms on it and for those vms i would have to have 2 keys to activate after installing server 2012 standart
    software on them right?
     see above.
if you buy via Volume Licensing, things change a little bit due to MAK/KMS keys (it gets a whole lot simpler :)
Sorry for being unclear on the clusters part, i meant HA/failover. we have 2 2008R2 enterprise servers in cluster with shared storage and i was trying to clarify how could i add more vms there.
assuming your failover solution involves traditional server hardware, each failover node is just another hardware machine, so, for each node you have to count up the procs and VMs, just as you would do for non-failover implementations.
if a server is installed and running/executing, it needs to be licensed.
with current configuration, each server is hosting 2vms and if anything happens single host can accommodate all four. I am assuming we have 2 enterprise licenses for them, but if i wanted to run 4vms on each host, we have to buy 2 more enterprise licenses
and install vm togerther with their keys?
There is no Enterprise for WS2012? (WS2012 has STD and DCE)
do you mean as in WS2008R2ENT ?
You can re-assign licenses from one machine to another machine (under the Volume Licensing terms. I'm not sure about Retail terms, you should check that). There are limitations on how often you can reassign licenses (no more than every 90days)
If hardware "fails", you are allowed to reassign the license in a shorter period than 90days.

  • Create time-limited license for my application

    Hi,
I have created an application for my client, but i would like to add in a function below into my software for license renew.
For example, after the application is used in a PC for one year, it will be locked and will ask user to renew the license, to activate the application again.
Is there anyway can create the time-limited license for my application?
My application is developed by LV 8.5.1.
I am appreciated for your feedback.
    Thanks.

I would never install software that expires, because if it cannot be guaranteed that it will run a year from now I might as well not use it at all.  If NI would do the same, your LabVIEW 8.5 would have stopped working long ago.

  • Questions re: GPIB-ENET, LabView 5 and 7, license and Win XP

We have a full development version of LabView 5.0 on a Win 98 SE machine, and just acquired a GPIB-ENET box that came with Solaris drivers. I loaded the GPIB and VISA software on LabView 5.0 and tried to connect to test the setup to no avail. It appears that all of the drivers are present. I believe that my problem is that I cant get the IPAssign network driver bound to the 3Com ethernet card. When I load it in network properties, it doesnt offer any hardware to bind to it. If I run IPAssign anyway, it claims the only networking hardware available is dialup, and sits forever (probably waiting to connect to a dialup line).
The ultimate plan is to upgrade to LabView 7, and install it with the GPIB-EN
ET box on a Win XP system. I have a demo version of 6.1, so I loaded that on the XP machine and tried again. LabView 6.1 appears to be missing drivers for GPIB-ENET, and looking through the knowledge base tells me a driver bug leaves Win XP incapable of assigning an IP address to GPIB-ENET anyway.
    My questions are:
    1. Should it be possible to get LabView 5.0 with 98SE talking to the older GPIB-ENET box, at least to set the IP address? Is this failing because I need to download the license (p/n 778258-02)?
    2. If I order LabView 7 and install it on Win XP, will I still need to download the license to run it, or is that included in version 7?
    3. Once I get LabView 7 and the driver and the license (if necessary) will I be able to assign the IP address with this setup?
    4. If the answer to #1 is yes, with a license and to #3 is no, then can I download the license, use it to assign an IP address on LabView 5 and transfer it to LabView 7/ Win XP when I get it to use the GPIB-EN
    ET box?
    Thanks.

    Hello,
Which version of the GPIB drivers are you using? We recommend using NI-488.2 v2.0 for your GPIB-ENET device (for Windows XP and Windows 98).
    1. Should it be possible to get LabView 5.0 with 98SE talking to the older GPIB-ENET box, at least to set the IP address? Is this failing because I need to download the license (p/n 778258-02)?
A: If you have version 2.0 of the drivers, you should be able to assign the IP okay. Do you see a pattern in the LEDs flashing? Check the READY LED and see if you see a pattern, as this indicates an error code. The following formula can be used to find the error code:
    error code= (long flashes-1)(short flashes-1)example: 3 long flashes, and 9 short flashes = (3-1)(9-1) = 28
If the READY LED does not stop flashing, it indicates that the GPIB-ENET does not have a valid IP address assigned to it. According to this KB:
The problem is the Ethernet address. The field for the Ethernet address in the IPAssign Utility is meant for the last four digits of the Ethernet address on your GPIB-ENET (the first part of the address is the same for all GPIB-ENETs, so it is pre-filled for you). If you run the IPAssign Utility again and fill in the last four digits of your GPIB-ENET's Ethernet address (in the format: xx:xx), then you should be able to assign it an IP address successfully.
More details: The Receive LED flashes because the Ethernet header for the packet is correct and the GPIB-ENET recognizes that; However, the header was actually duplicated when you entered the Ethernet address in the IPAssign Utility, so it did not match the exact Ethernet address of that particular GPIB-ENET. The only numbers that need to be entered into the Ethernet address field in the IPAssign Utility are the last 4 numbers in the format: xx:xx.
Note: The user must decide what the IP address is going to be. Your IT department could probably help. The Ethernet Address however, is statically programmed into each ENET. It's usually labeled at the bottom of the unit.
Also, refer to this KB regarding some IP issues we've had with some of the older GPIB-ENET devices.
    2. If I order LabView 7 and install it on Win XP, will I still need to download the license to run it, or is that included in version 7?
A: You should uninstall and reinstall NI-488.2 v2.0. If you already have this driver, you will not need to re-license it. The driver is not included with LabVIEW 7.0 by default.
    3. Once I get LabView 7 and the driver and the license (if necessary) will I be able to assign the IP address with this setup?
A: You should be able to assign the IP fine. Look at the response for first question above to make sure you are assigning the IP correctly.

  • SAP Licensing for a Test Environment

One of our clients has created a test environment physically seperate from the Production environment (That is on two seperate machines). All their purchased SAP B1 licenses are being used in the production system. If you select additional licenses, they are only temporary and expire in 14 days from creation.
How do you get valid licenses into the Test Environment that will always be active without having to reduce the licenses that are allocated to the Production system?

Thank you all for your helpful answers.
I understand about creating a test database in the Production system and it use of the same License Manager
However this does not work if you are trying to test patches or major release upgrades because once you apply the upgrade / patch to the test database in the production environment the code base is now changed and the production database would then be updated.
In order to isolate the test of upgrades, patch levels, major functionality etc., you need to build a separate environment on different hardware to do the testing. That is what we have done.
Since the license server is not shared the separate test environment needs to have a license file that reflects its hardware key.
When I go to create that license file and I specify "Test System" for the system, the license file is only created with temporary licenses which inactivate in 14 days.
I need to know if there is a way to create the license file without the licenses being inactivated and without reducing the number of licenses available to the Production System.

  • About Reader plugin license and fee

    Hello.
    I'm a software developer at a company.
Our company developed plugin for Acrobat and Reader for sale to our customers.
I found that Reader plugin needs license and annual fee.
Could you give how much is it costs? (annual fee).
The plugins features that we developed is that extract all text on an active document when printing
and save the text to file as a something.txt in local drive(C:\).
Is this feature of product includes DRM RIKLA structure?
And Is that different charge of fee than non-DRM product?
    Thanks.

    Also:
    - to develop a Reader plug-in you must start with Acrobat
    - Adobe only sometimes give permission for a Reader plug-in; the plug-in must suit their business aims
    - the only way to find your fee is to apply. The fee is not the same for everyone.
    - people do not need Reader plug-ins, because they can buy Acrobat. Part of the cost of the Reader plug-in fee is to make up for "lost" sales of Reader
    - security plug-ins (DRM) are the most expensive, apparently $50,000 per year
    - you will need to fully install and read many thousands of pages of documentation in the Acrobat SDK; there is a steep learning curve to write plug-ins.
    - Reader plugins have many technical limitations e.g. cannot save files.

  • FIM Licensing and Installation

    Hi,
I'm sorry  for this stupid question but I have a doubt. Until now I worked in a test environment with the trial version of FIM 2010 and I didn't use any license. Now the trial version is expired. My organization bought licenses and I would like to now
    how to better use them.
My test enviroment is composed of several servers: 2 of them are dedicated to FIM components (one with FIM Sychronization Service and one with the Service and the Portal).
I read about two type of licenses: CAL and 'for server'. To replicate my test environment, how many licenses do I need? I assume
2 server licenses, is it correct?. If I would simulate user provisioning from HR to Active Directory, do I need any CAL license in the test environment?
And another issue: the installation of the official version is the same of the trial version?
Can I use the same setup of the trial version? Do I need to use any certification?
The licenses that I will use in the test environment can be later used for the production environment?
    Thanks in advance.

Peter is saying that a subscription to MSDN will allow you to use FIM (and
a whole lot more) in your test environment for far less money that it would
cost to purchase full FIM server licenses and CALs.
"Normally you shoud be able to use the same configuration in test /trial as in production.".. so can I use the same setup.exe of the trial version? The license request is a step of the installation of the setup.exe?
Like the vast majority of Microsoft products, licensing is done on the
"honour" system in that there are no physical licenses to install.

  • SBO 8.8 Can two LImited Licenses (Eg.. Financials + CRM) be assigned to one

I have confirmed by testing that it is possible to assign two different limited licenses to one user.
In a limited test (COA Edit + Quotations Entry) I have established that the combined functionality is available.
Question - is this supported by SAP?
I realise that it might make more sense to upgrade the two licenses to one Pro.

    Hi,
you can read license guide pdf file to know more detail about all licenses type.
you can also read license comparison chart to know the detail authorization of license.
As long as it can work,  you can use it. SAP support license type authorization.

The download comes with an OTN Licence, which you have to agree to when you download it. The versions you download are full featured and are not time restricted.
For upgrade issues read the installation manual and the migration manual (both probably available in your download, otherwise try technet)

  • Cannot call "mask and limit testing" inside a loop

Calling "mask and limit testing" in a loop doesn't work. The problem
is that the Upper Limit and Lower Limit are initialized only the first

a way to use this VI in a loop?

    test_limits_testing.vi ‏193 KB

    Dear Martin,
Thank you for contacting National Instruments. I would like to apologize for the delay in responding to your support request.
From the information you have provided, it sounds like you are running your VI and experiences issues with the lower and upper mask refreshing after subsequent iterations of the FOR loop.
The Mask and Limit Testing Express VI is not intended to function inside a loop; however, you can fortunately modify this Express VI to perform the desired action. To do so, please follow these instructions:
    1) Open the Block Diagram for your test_limits_testing.vi file
    2) [Right Click] on the Mask and Limits Testing.vi Express VI
    a. Select [Open Front Panel]
    b. When prompted to convert to a standart subVI, choose [Convert]
    3)
[Right Click] on the subMaskLimitTesting.vi Express VI
    a. Select [Open Front Panel]
    4) From the toolbar, select [Window] >> [Show Block Diagram]
    5) You should see two subVIs named MatchDT (white icons with black text)
    a. Wire a [True] Constant to the Reset 2 input terminal for each of the MatchDT subVIs
    i. To do this, right click each input terminal and select [Create]>>[Constant]
ii. Make sure the constant value is set to [T] for true
    6) Save and Close the subVIs
    7) Re-run your test_limits_testing.vi file, and the masking limits should re-initialize upon each loop iteration
You have successfully customized the VI to function within a loop.
I hope this helps! Please dont hesitate to let me know if theres anything else I can help with or clarify. Have a great day!
