Scale multiple clips without changing position?

I'm attempting to scale multiple clips to the same size, however I don't want to change their position. Therefore copy/paste attributes won't do the trick without changing position, as you can only paste the entire "Basic Motion" attribute.
Any ideas?
Thanks!
Lee

Thanks for trying to help figure this out Kevan. I'm finding that there is nothing but workarounds to get only scaling to adjust without changing position.
The source stills are all the same size. Basically I was given less than HD stills to begin with, and I'm now replacing those with HD sized stills of all the same size. There are a lot of match frame edits, so I would prefer not to have to reposition everything again.
It doesn't seem unrealistic to think that one should be able to copy/paste only the "scale" value in the clip just as you are able to copy/paste opacity only. Maybe that's a feature for future versions of FCP.
It works if I go through and manually change the scale of each clip to 50%. The positioning stays the same.
And now it seems that I've found the answer to my own question:
1. Reconnect media to the new, hi-rez stills
2. Nest the sequence into a squence that's the same resolution as the new source stills
3. Scale the nest down to fit the HD sequence settings
Retains the original positioning.
Thanks guys!

  • How to name individual clips without changing the name of the original file...?

    Hi,
Theres likely to be a really simple solution to this, but i can't find it! I've done my in & out points, i've created a new clip and i'd like to give it a unique name. When i rename the clip the original file name also changes. How can i rename the new clip without changing the original file name?
    Please help,
    Thanks

Either make the clip a subclip or convert it to a new master clip. Both can be done in the Modify menu.

How can I keep my audio track, delete a short segment of video, and reinsert a new video clip, without changing the audio with the way it lines up with the original video?

If you have either iMovie 09 or iMovie 11 you can do this easily using the Cutaway feature.
Go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now you jut drag and drop the 2nd clip onto hte first clip at the frame where you want the Cutaway to start. A popup menu will appear. Choose Cutaway.
    Here is a good Tutorial.
If you have iMovie 08, let me know. There is a way to do it, but it is more complex.

  • Scaling multiple clips without pasting attributes ??

    Hi there,
I have a 20 minutes fcp project which consists of 7 tracks video which are layered on top of each other. The clips of each track have been scaled down so that I see seven mini screens next to each other. The seven mini screens (each of them represents one of my tracks) are of different size/scale. Now I would like to scale multiple (around 300) clips, so that they all end up beeing 30% bigger. The usual answer for this would be: use copy and paste attributes. This doesn't work in my case though, as all of my clips are of different scale and if I copy/paste attributes I end up with one and the same size for each clip which would be a desaster.
I would love to be able to just select all the clips I want to blow up and in the canvas' wire frame view drag the frame bigger. So that all clips get bigger simultaneously without losing their relation to each other. I know that it is possible to do this by sending the edit to Motion, the problem is that I worked with a lot of filters which all get lost on the way (Sending to Motion does not send filter information). I hope there is an easy work around and would be so grateful for every little suggestion.
    Thanks in advance
    Alex

Nest the sequence, then apply 'overall scale'. IIRC, you'll need to option-click on the nest to keep it from opening up in a different timeline...not at my system now, so can't check...but I think it's option-click...could be some other 'modifyier key'-click.
You would still be able to make adjustments to individual clips, by dbl-clicking the nested sequence and making adjustments when that opened in a different timeline.

  • How do I stretch or compress an audio clip without changing the original?

When I drag an audio clip, like footsteps, from the browser library into the timeline or sound editor, and then time stretch it or compress the speed, all instances of that clip seem to change with it. How can I make different speeds of the same clip in various instances in the timeline? And do it so that the original clip from the browser is still at the original speed when I drag it in again?

For each instance go to *Clip>Replace With Independent Audio File Project*

  • Any way to change speed of a clip without changing the pitch?

When I do the command-J and lower the speed, the pitch lowers which I do not want.

    I don't think that's possible.
Think about it: when you slow down sound you are also slowing down the frequency of sound, making it sound lower and slower. The only way to slow it down and not change the pitch would be to take little sections of it and keep them apart from each other over a long period of time. However, this would not sound like your original audio file.
I don't know what you are looking for. Can you imagine a way in your head to slow down the audio, but not make it change pitch?
The only thing I can think of would be to slow it down normally, then try to correct the pitch using one of FCE's audio filters.

  • Multiple reporting without changing Cost Center

    Hi all,
We had a requirement to show the correct way of maintaining SAP OM to indicate pool resources, i.e. a person can report to more than one superior, without splitting the his/her personnel costs into more than 1 cost centers.
What is the best way to carry out this. Please advise.
    Regards.

    Hi
Use the dotted line relationship 088 for reporting to a second or third supervisor or manager.
and the cost center remains the same.

  • How to cycle (ctrl-tab) among zoomed images without changing position?

As I often do, I have several similar images open and zoomed in to a particular position.  But when I hit ctrl-tab to cycle among them, the view keeps getting moved to the upper-left corner of each image.  This defeats the ability to quickly compare the same part of each image.
Is there any fix for this?  I seem to remember solving this in the past, but I can't recall how.
(Using CS3, soon to upgrade to CS4, but need fix in CS3 as well.)
    Thanks!

[Edited: I originally wrote CS2, but meant CS3]

The [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/tab-mix-plus/ Tab Mix Plus] extension appears to have this feature, pictured in the screen shot here: http://tmp.garyr.net/help/#Events_-_New_Tabs

  • How to change effects on multiple clips

Is there a way to change and/or adjust effects/filters on multiple clips at once?  I have added an effect on a scene and I want to adjust the overall level to all the clips, i.e. the amount of the effect applied.
I highlighted all the clips and made the adjustment in the Inspector, but it only made the adjustment to one single clip even though I selected all.  I REALLY do not want to sit and adjust each one seperately.
    Anyone with an answer?  Thanks

I am not adding an effect. I am adjusting ONE single effect within multiple clips that have multiple effects. if I just copy and paste it copies ALL the effects, which I do not want, because I have different effects for different clips. i.e. different color schemes etc.
In otherw ords, I wnat to be able to EDIT effects in multiple clips. E.G, I have added color correction, "looks" filter, etc to multiple clips.  I just want to change ONE of those effects in multiple clips without disturbing the rest of the effects in those clips.

  • Replacing multiple clips but keeping attributes

    Hello,
I have a lot of clips in multiple sequences that I would like to replace because I have changed the background but I would like to keep the attributes (cropping) of the original clips. At the moment I feel that I have to copy each clip and paste its attributes to its replacement but I'm wondering if there's a way to replace the clips without changing the attributes.
Any thoughts or am I just going to have to paste attributes 67 times?
    Thanks,
    Stef

There MUST be an easier way to do this, I just can't think of it at the moment.
I can only suggest you review your sequences carefully and see if there aren't some shortcuts you can use. Maybe the cropping or motion settings from one clip are used again on others? That would at least eliminate several copy operations. You can do multiple selects and apply a single paste.
Wish I could be more help other than to just kvetch along with you.

  • Scaling Multiple Clips

Is there anyway to scale multiple clips in the viewer at the same time that don't have the same start points.

No, but you can scale one clip, then copy it and paste its "basic motion" attributes to the other clips.

  • Applying tape name to multiple clips

How do you apply the same tape name to multiple clips - without having to do each one individually?

I can't believe there is no way to do this.
I'm starting a new project, shot on FS700.  For every memory card, the file names start over at 00000.mts so tape name is essential for organizing, especially when sending to other applications such as Davinci Resolve.  When a person has hundreds or thousands of these clips, it's ridiculous to type a tape name for each one individually.  How does anybody edit file-based media in Premiere?

  • Elements 11 change position & scale at the same time

I have Premiere Elements 11. Can I change position and scale of the same clip over time using keyframes? I have figured out how to zoom in and out and how to pan using keyframes, but when I try to do both, the the first effect applied gets reset.

    ShaneRoney
Are you in Applied Effects Tab/Applied Effects Palette/Motion Panel expanded and the Position and Scale properties there? Or are you trying to do keyframing at the Timeline clip's rubberband level?
Assuming the Motion Panel expanded route....
After you hit Toggle Animation with your Timeline Indicator at the start of your segment with Position and Scale at the start values, move the Timeline Indicator right to the next spot, set the Position fields to where you want them, move the Scale to where you want it, and then move the Timeline Indicator right to the next spot as you move across the clip in this routine.
At a fixed Timeline Indicator position do both sets before moving the Timeline Indicator to the next spot.
Assure yourself that you can keyframe Position property by itself and Scale property by itself. Then start again and do both at the same time as suggested above.
If there are still glitches in the process, please describe further, and we will work out the details where we are differing.
    Thanks.

  • How to change Opacity Blending on multiple clips...??

    First the problem:
    Whenever I open a Premiere v6.5 project, CS4 does a "conversion."
Maddeningly, during this process, it changes the Opacity\Blending Mode of every single clip in the project to "Color" instead of leaving it at "Normal."
Since I am working with Stereo (3D) footage with a different camera on V2 & V1, I always have at least two, and often many more, video tracks (for titles, etc).
This means I have to go through every single clip on every single video track and reset it to Normal before I can proceed with the project! This can be upwards of 500 clips.
    PITA!!
    1) Does anyone have any idea why this is happening & how to prevent it?
    or,
    2) Is there a way to change this setting in all the clips at the same time?
Whenever I select multiple clips, no Effect Settings (or whatever Shift 5 is called) appear. Only there for single clips.
    TIA,:-)

Do one clip, copy (rightclick) the clip, select all the others and paste attributes.

Can't do it inside FCP, but you can in Soundtrack Pro.
