Scaled 4k monitor gives me smaller 1920x1080

Hello, I just bought the new mac pro 12 core, 2 amd 700, 64 gig of ram AND a Samsung 4k monitor U28D590D.
I'm having a strange behaviour (maybe its normal). I'm on 10.9.3 and when I scale the monitor to resolutions smaller than 4k I have smaller 1920x1080 windows in all softwares like photoshop, cinema 4d and after effects.
What I mean is, the general size of the screen of 1920x1080 should be smaller (like everything else) when I change the resolution to 3840x2160... BUT when I change the resolution to let's say a 3008x1692 or even 2560x1440 the 1920x1080 inside photoshop or any other software become smaller... For me its very strange that everything else scales for bigger, but the size of the main screen of the softwares.
I'm running trough hdmi, but I have the same behaviour on display port...
Any ideas? Anyone knows what is happening?

If you have a screen larger that 1920 by 1080, throw that HDMI cable away. They are generally limited to 1080p size and "too slow" refresh rates for big displays. Anything you learn while using that cable does NOT apply while using a DisplayPort cable.
If you change the resolution of your display, restarting running software such as photoshop is a requirement.

External monitor not displaying full 1920x1080 (black bars around desktop), Pavilion g6

I have a Pavilion g6 notebook running Windows 8.1. I have an external Acer S232HL display hooked up via an HDMI cable. The resolution is set to 1920x1080 in Windows, and I'm only outputting to the external monitor.
Windows thinks the resolution is set to 1920x1080, but for some reason on the monitor it is scaled to something like 1734x980 with black borders (unused pixels) all around.
All drivers and OS are up to date. Graphics: AMD Radeon HD 7640G via an AMD A8-4500M APU.

Since I don't expect to find a fix for this, I've resigned myself to setting the resultion to 1776x1000 and setting the monitor in a 1-for-1 pixel mode (called "Aspect" in the options). I still end up with the borders, but the graphics are nice and sharp because it isn't trying to scale 1920x1080 into a smaller resolution.

I have a external monitor, a new samsung 1920x1080 60hz, and it's bee fine until I had to unplug it an hour ago to move it. But connecting it back up to my mac has produced one problem, it no longer displays at 1920x1080, only 1600x900.

It won't even let me select the highest resolution it should offer, the option doesn't exist in the scroll menu. But the weirdest part about this is, if i mirror my mac screen onto the monitor, it gives me the option to view both screens at full 1920x1080 resolution, and it does show them both, the same screen, perfectly, until I stop mirroring, whereby it goes back to 1600x900 and won't let me choose any higher. So the external monitor can show this resolution but just won't. Any help would be great thanks.
FYI. I'm using a firewire/hdmi cable, so it should be full HDMI output

External Monitor - Samsung PX2370 Resolution 1920x1080

i just bought the Samsung PX 2370 1921x1080 LED monitor. I tried to connected using the HDMI connection and I get a flickering and the image goes in and out. The MacBook Pro does not have a selection of this resolution as an alternative. Has anyone connected an external monitor LED with 1920x1080 resolution to a MacBook Pro?

Nevermind. I found the xvattr package in the AUR.
I've tried this on both VLC and Mplayer and everytime the movie starts I see blue instead. On the built in monitor for my laptop the DVD is viewable. To get tv-out I use this command:
xrandr --output VGA-0 --mode 1024x768
I thought that this might have to do with the standard that is set so I tried to change it with the advice on the wiki (for ATi drivers):
xrandr --output VGA-0 --set tv_standard ntsc
But it gives me this:
X Error of failed request: BadName (named color or font does not exist)

So I have the exact same issue (never a problem with my G4 12" Powerbook).
I found this in an Apple support document:
"When you are finished using your MacBook Pro, MacBook, or PowerBook G4 in closed-lid mode, the internal display will not come on when you open the lid until you have disconnected the external display. If you want the internal display to enable again, remove the external display connector, put the computer to sleep, and then open the lid. This will toggle the computer to come out of closed-lid mode and once again provide power and a video signal to the internal display."
I'm not sure how you put the MBP to sleep in closed lid mode if you have already removed the external display....
I am going to try putting the MPB to sleep, THEN removing the external display, then re-waking..... We'll see

Dual monitors HP Z200 Small Form Factor Workstation

I am waiting on my new Intel I-5 HP Z200 Small Form Factor Workstation running Windows 7. What do I need to run two monitors?  I believe that there is an HDMI and a DVI video output on the rear - can I run two monitors off of these two outputs or do I need a video card? If I buy a video card do I need one with two HDMI outputs (my preferred connection) or can I use the one on the motherboard and one on an add in card siumultaneously?

Monitor--print too small

One reason I bought the 24" iMac was so I could run two programs side-to-side, referencing content in one program as I worked on another. However, I find that program screen menu items (or task screens within a program screen) are so small that I cannot read them. Setting the resolution from 1920x1200 to 1344x840 (the next lowest setting) is unacceptable, because screens are then too big. How can I increase font, menu, and task screens within a program screen so I can work two programs side-by-side, without losing clarity? PS: I realize I can enlarge the screen by pressing Command+, but having to constantly do that, looking from one program screen to another, seems--archaic.

Are there 2 particular programs involved in this situation? Some programs can change their display font sizes to help. You can also use the zoom function connected to the mouse (control + scroll to zoom) which is quick and easy to get in and out.

Internet explorer menus on 4k monitors very very small

When I run IE on my 4k monitor I use the control+mouse wheel capability to nicely zoom the contents of the browser window. Works great.
It would be really useful if the cursor could also size up to a usable size and for the menus, navigation bar etc. to become larger. They are extremely tiny making them very hard to work with. I lose track of the cursor all the time. And no, I can't change
my desktop settings to enlarge everything because then the windows on my "normal" monitors become huge. Speaking of that, if another window is launched from IE (say a form), and I move it to one of my other monitors, they become so huge many don't
even fit top to bottom on a monitor. Wouldn't changing the nav bar, menus, etc. to be HTML elements allow everything to zoom uniformly? I'm sorry, but the results of mixing html and win32 elements in what a user perceives as a single window are ... comical.

Immersive IE is a frameless browser and scales adaptive content automatically ... the whole purpose of the Immersive browser was to accommodate a range of screen sizes on different devices. In desktop IE you can toggle fullscreen to completely hide the UI
menus and toolbars.

Premiere Elements 10 reinstalled in windows 8 the monitor give no picture during editing play of avchd video 1020x1080i 25. Have worked OK before in win 8.

I have reinstalled premiere elements 10 in win 8 and after reinstallation it is not possible to edit the video because the monitor does not show the pictures when I play the video, only sound comes OK. What can I do?

Are you saying that all you did was to reinstall Premiere Elements 10 on the same computer? The video card/graphics card was the same before and after the reinstall? There is a serious Premiere Elements 10/NVIDIA GeForce issue, and I just want to make sure that you are not caught up in that issue. b. The playback of this specific AVCHD file in Premiere Elements 10?
If you are using this never before used AVCHD file in the reinstalled Premiere Elements 10, there is always that possibility that you are now using AVCHD.avi which is not supported by Premiere Elements. AVCHD video compression is supported but not the specific combo of AVCHD.avi.
Please review, consider, and clarify and then we will customize a troubleshooting to get to the core of the matter.

Software monitoring gives some sort of electrical disturbance sound

Hi. Im using a dual G5 with 2.5 Gb ram and a Mackie 400F. When activating software monitoring from within Logic I sometimes get some sort of sparkling sound. Its there all the time, even when not recording or playing back.
Sounds like some sort of sparkle/crack. Its constant. If I turn off software monitoring and listens straight off the 400F it goes away.

I dont think its the firewire whine. Pretty sure it isnt. In fact I just installed Tiger and at first glance it seems like that solved it.
I have one more problem regarding a full left or right pan in logic, where I get a slip trough of disorted sound on the other side than the one I panned 100% to, but I will take that in a new thread.

Finesse 10.5 (UCCX) - "Start Monitoring" give "Call Cannot Be Completed As Dialed"

The CTI Ports for UCCX have a CSS that allows them to call any internal extension. My (supervisor's) line and the agent's line both have our long distance CSS (that includes all internal extensions). This obviously seems like a CSS issue, but I would assume it would be based on the CTI port CSS.

I don't use Finesse but use CAD and had the same issue when I had to change to CCM-based silent monitoring when I upgraded from 7.1.3 to 9.1.2. On both the agent and supervisor phones I need to have the built-in bridge parameter set to on and need to have a CSS in the monitoring CSS field toward the bottom of the DN configuration screen. Without both of these set I get the same "call cannot be completed as dialed" when a supervisor tried to monitor an agent call.
Did this ever work or is this a new issue?

Monitor and manage small broadband link

Hi all,
Recently my company setup a broadband link external to all enterprise network. This is a simple ISP connection they pay for separate. Business reason justify such installation.
Now they have expanded this link to a small lan. and got it wireless. Because these now accommodates more than 1 user they ask me to look after. But I have no clue how should I manage bandwidth and control who uses the resources...
The design is ISP modem connected to Linksys router connected to Cisco Switch Catalyst 2960 C Series which is connected to 4 cisco Wireless APs. The Cisco Switch also has a port connected to a Cisco 2500 Series Wireless controller.
I have been exploring the capabilities of this wireless controller but I get only general statistics about traffic... I can not see if what each IP is using from the bandwidth and for what is it using..
Because I have no servers or firewalls in the middle I am a bit loss on how to administer this...
Is there any tool that would help me?
Any one with similar experience?

If the switch supports netflow then you can obtain software from many vendors that will analyze the netflow data.

On Win7 x64 with 1920 x 1080 screen res, UI is too big with 200% scaling feature on (and too small without).

When i open up my photoshop everything is massive and big all the buttons are huge i cant use photoshop propally.

Some addons give a small purple screen about what is blocked; how can I stop this screen from appearing?

I'm using adblock, adblock popup, better privacy, ghostery, no-script. Sometimes this purple screen, on the right side of the screen, almost on top, is very big, and blocking text. I can click it away, but it keeps returning.
Is there a way to shut off the appearance of this screen?

I use NoScript, and it uses a bar along the bottom, so it's probably one of the others.
Some extensions provide a toolbar icon or Tools menu entry allowing you to adjust how they work.
In other cases, you can use the Options button on the Add-ons page for that extension:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
If you figure out how to tame it, can you post back with the answer? Other users often find these threads in web searches, and it could be helpful to them.
