Scaling an object

I'm getting this message in Adobe Illustrator.
Can't scale the object, The transformation would make some object to small to use>
Is this a wrong setting or something. This just started showing up?

Thanks for your response.
I solved the problem.

  • Scaling an object that contains a gradient

    I'm working in Illustrator CS3. Got a question: I'm looking to scale an object that contains a gradient, but I want the position of the gradient to remain in the same position on the page. That is, I don't want the gradient to scale along with the object. Is it possible to do this without manually rebuilding the gradient?

    Normal scaling of an object (using the Scale tool, Transform or dragging the bounding box) will always scale the gradient too, but there is a sort of workaround if you know where the gradient starts and ends in the original.
    If you haven't already marked the beginning and end of your gradient, do so by pasting a copy of it in front (Cmd-F) and expanding the gradient - then you can see its start and end points when you turn off the preview. Mark what you need with guides and delete the expanded gradient. It's useful to make a guide that follows the angle of the gradient.
    Now draw a gradient-filled rectangle behind your object and get the gradient to match the angle and position of the gradient in your object by dragging with the gradient tool according to the guides.
    Having done this, copy and scale your object and change it into a clipping mask that masks the rectangle you just drew. Alternatively you can make a masking layer of your object if you know how to do that.
    Lock the rectangle (if you are using a normal clipping mask) and then you can move the object (which is now a mask) at will and the gradient will stay put.
    This is all a bit long-winded but please get back to me if you're lost :-)

  • Why do vector shapes in scaled smart objects blur?

    This remains a point of frustration.
    Why does converting a vector shape to a smart object in Photoshop mean that it's then treated as a bitmap and blurs when scaled up?
    If i paste the same vector shape into Illustrator and then back into Photoshop as a smart object it then behaves correctly, and remains sharp.
    See the image for example of what i mean. Left is the master shape, centre is it converted into a smart object in Photoshop, right pasted to and from Illustrator. These were then scaled 300% resulting in the centre one blurring.
    I don't really want to have to invovle Illustrator in this way and keep all my vector work in Photoshop now it has the tools to do so, but this issue creates me a lot of extra work.
    Or am i doing something wrong?
    Rob

    Smart Object layers are transform to other sizes through interpolating the pixels rendered for the embedded object not be using vector graphics on the embedded object.. If your resize resizes the pixel count way un the image will become soft.  Yoy can try seting your Photoshop Default interpolation setting to other setting then Adobe default Bicubic Automatic to something like plain bicubic which IMO is a better general purpose option then Bicubic Automatic.
    You can also open the embedded object by double clicking  the smart layers smart object icon in the layers palette. Once opened in Photoshop resize the vector graphic using Image size and save  the embedded vector object larger. Photoshop will update the smart object layers content then.

  • Why does scaling distort objects?

    I can't get certain graphics to scale down correctly correctly.
    Take a look at the 2 jpegs enclosed - one solid, the other with 1px outline. The graphic men were originally 40mm tall.
    In each case the one on the left is the original. The one on the right is the same graphic reduced to 25% then enlarged to 400%. Both should look the same.
    Does anyone know how to stop these distortions from happening?
    I've tried adding and releasing Compound Path, Grouping and Ungrouping, Selecting and deselecting 'Scale Stroke and Effects'. No combination works!
    I'm especially confused about 'Scale Stroke and Effects'. Surely when it's selected, the outline should reduce to 0.25 px. It doesn't - it stays at 1px.
    Any ideas? I'm quite happy to send anyone my original Illustrator files to test.

    Hi Jacob
    Woo-hoo! It works!
    Thank You!
    I was just in the process of responding to say that your suggestion didn't work when you added a bit more.
    I went to the Transform box but couldn't see anything saying Align to Pixel Grid.
    Then I clicked on the little arrow (top right) and saw Align New Objects to Pixel Grid. But that was already deselected so I was about to tell you that wasn't the problem.
    Then when you extended your response I tried clicking Show Options. Suddenly 2 new tick boxes appeared under the Transform box, the lowest one saying: Align to Pixel Grid. I deselected it and - it works!
    So am I right in saying that the problem only occurred because I originally created the graphic on an Illustrator page set for the web (RGB, pixels)?
    Even though I copied and pasted the graphic onto a print page (CMYK, mm)?
    Finally, I don't want to seem ungrateful. I'm really glad you solved my problem - and did it so quickly.
    But, is it just me, or is this the most bizarre, obscure feature ever? When I reduce an object, I go to the Scale box and follow all the options. Why would I think of checking the Transform Box then go on to check the Transform Box options. Then, how would I ever suspect that the list of Transform Box options isn't complete. When I saw Show Options I assumed that this would just add some of the Transform Box options to the bottom of the Transform Box. That is the norm for software the world over isn't it? That is indeed what it does for Scale Strokes & Effects. But Align to Pixel Grid is not mentioned in the options list - and is clearly not the same as Align New Objects to Pixel Grid. Why isn't it mentioned?
    Couldn't something be done to simplify this? It seems odd that this is a default feature at all but assuming there is a good reason for it to be there, why doesn't Align to Pixel Grid appear in the Scale Box beneath Scale Strokes & Effects?
    Cheers

  • Scaling text objects as a group

    Hi
    I'm on mac.
    I'm working on a document created by another designer.
    The main logo has been created as a number of text letter objects, which I want to group together and scale proportionally.
    How do I do this?
    I've tried selecting the text objects and using the cmd < arrow and also the cmd + shift keys, but these don't work??
    Appreciate,
    Clare

    hi clare
    you can select all object then grouping by cmd+G and drag that side of object point using shift.
    wish it help you

  • Vertical scaling an object doesn't constrain anymore- why?

    Say you have a rectangle, and you want to make it taller (but keep the width the same). Normally I'd select the object, grab the top- or bottom-middle control point, and drag… this would scale the shape's height without changing width.
    For the last couple months though, I've run into an issue where this only works at higher zoom levels. If I'm zoomed out too far, dragging the center control point DOES NOT keep the width constrained… it behaves as if I selected a corner control point, despite the fact that the proper up/down-arrow cursor is showing.
    Here's a quick video showing the problem: http://burnblue.com/illustrator-constrain-bug.swf

    Toby,
    It seems to suddenly work as if you press Shift.
    You may try the list, and if nothing there helps (You have obviously been through 1) and 2) already, and 5) is irrelevant here), it may be time for a bug report (presuming CC2014).
    The following is a general list of things you may try when the issue is not in a specific file, and when it is not caused by issues with opening a file from external media. You may have tried/done some of them already; 1) and 2) are the easy ones for temporary strangenesses, and 3) and 4) are specifically aimed at possibly corrupt preferences); 5) is a list in itself, and 6) is the last resort.
    If possible/applicable, you should save current artwork first, of course.
    1) Close down Illy and open again;
    2) Restart the computer (you may do that up to at least 5 times);
    3) Close down Illy and press Ctrl+Alt+Shift/Cmd+Option+Shift during startup (easy but irreversible);
    4) Move the folder (follow the link with that name) with Illy closed (more tedious but also more thorough and reversible), for CS3 - CC you may find the folder here:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/illustrator/kb/preference-file-location-illustrator.html
    5) Look through and try out the relevant among the Other options (follow the link with that name, Item 7) is a list of usual suspects among other applications that may disturb and confuse Illy, Item 15) applies to CC, CS6, and maybe CS5);
    Even more seriously, you may:
    6) Uninstall (ticking the box to delete the preferences), run the Cleaner Tool (if you have CS3/CS4/CS5/CS6/CC), and reinstall.

  • Double bounding box when scaling an object...why?

    Here is an example of the issue that I am having. I have a rectangle that I am looking to scale up from the top while keeping the width the same. When I zoom out to see the entire artboard and then go to scale the rectangle it shows up with two bounding boxes. As I drag the bounding box the piece is centered withing the second bounding box and all the spaces are stretched. The issue goes away when I am zoomed in but I don't want this to happen when zoomed out. Does anyone have a suggestion for this issue? I am figuring there is was key command I accidentaly hit and I would like to know how to disable this.
    Thanks,
    Brownj293

    Mr. Bugge:
    Thank you for your response and I apologize for the delay in mine. I couldn't try all of the fixes immediately because I had to complete some job duties before I could tinker with this issue.
    Things that did not work:
    Closing Firefox
    Clearing the Preferences
    Moving the Preferences Folder
    Deleting Temp Files
    Closing Other Adobe Programs (Including Bridge Running in the Background
    Things I cannot do for various reasons:
    Re-installing Acrobat
    Turning Off the Firewall (My Company Only Uses 1 Anyway)
    Things I haven't tried yet but hope to try later:
    Update Printer Definition or Change Default Printer
    Check for Corrupt Fonts
    Clear My Font Cache
    Things I learned:
    The issue is most easily recreated by transforming an object to a smaller object. However, zooming in will realign the bounding box but it will only stay aligned when zoomed in. I find it very curious.
    Even if I don't end up finding an answer, I do appreciate your time and help.

  • Scaling two objects to match exactly pixel to pixel.

    I have two art objects on two layers. I want to match to the pixel the two objects that otherwise could be exactly the same but one layered object was imported slightly smaller. The scale tool has good scale handling, I just want to measure the tool spots to the pixel to gain an exact scale size factor and match sizes.

    If they could be the same  size what caused the scale difference. Were the images taken with or different cameras, or different focal length or angle are you sure only the scale is off.  That the perspectives and sizes of the objects are the same. Photoshop has a measure tool just remember perspective, angle, axis all effect the measurements size.

  • Black Edges Around Scaled Smart Objects

    Hey folks,
    I've checked around and haven't really found a good solution for this, hoping somebody can help me out.  I have a smart object with transparency that looks great at 100%, as soon as I scale it down I start getting black lines around the edges and a "bevel and emboss" type effect around the edges.  I DON'T want to scale down the contents of the smart object, that's the whole point of the smart object, to retain resolution.  The "anti-alias" checkbox in the transform panel is disabled and can't be checked.  I'm using Photoshop CC 2015.   Please help as this has been driving me nuts for months.  Thanks!

    You are correct. I tried this in CS6, and the drop shadow causes the downscale algorithm to add an ugly dark border. I tried changing the image interpolation in the General options, but that has seemingly no effect at all.
    Under circumstances it looks quite terrible, and the result becomes unusable for serious work. The only way to circumvent this is to remove the drop shadow in the SO, and apply the effect instead on the SO itself.
    *edit* Out of curiosity, I also tested this in Photoline with cloned instanced layers (comparable to a SO in Photoshop), and there are no issues.

  • Scaling / Resizing Objects on a Layer

    I have used the lasso tool to cut out an object. I need to scale / resize the object. How do I do that?

    Hi LRMint,
    You can use Free Transform to scale your selection:

  • LineTo on MouseMove has performance issue on scaled display object

    Here is the scenario:
    1. on mouse down on a canvas, start handling MouseMove event
    2. on Mouse Move draw a line to the current mouse position
    When the above processes run, the result is a descent enough
    line being drawn on the canvas.
    Now if we programatically scale the canvas' parent the
    MouseEvent handler seems to be called less often, and the line
    becomes less smooth.
    This reduction in quality/performance only occurs when the
    scale factor of the canvas' parent is between 1.5 and 3.3, anything
    above or below this range works fine. - this is stumping us all!?
    &%$£*@!
    Any help, pointers, ideas, would be much apreciated.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
    Using a variable on the BW side is not feasible since we want to use the same BW query for a few other reports as well.
    Could you please explain what you mean by 'use LAG function'.How can it be used in this scenario?
    Thanks and Regards,

  • Scaling distorts my objects

    Scaling an object up or down doesnt seem to work anymore. I feel like the effect is random but my points dont scale correctly. there are small distortions in various instances.
    The distortion is random, I can scale the same object down 20 different times and get 20 different results. Unfortunately none of them are ever a perfect scale.

    dp,
    It is important to also untick Align New Objects to Pixel Grid in the flyout options, or any new objects will haunt you.
    You may avoid the document type in question, or change its default.

  • Smart Object Scaling Produces Artifacts

    Please look at this picture:
    When I scale down an icon using a smart object (original size is 1024x1024, the scaled down object shown here is 48x48 px), the borders of the vector shapes are added a weird sharpening effect that is not desired. When I rasterize the smart object before and scale down the resulting bitmap, the scaling is much more precise. What is wrong here?
    The original graphic contains layer styles and my scaling is set to Bicubic Automatic.
    I use Photoshop CC in the latest version.

    Vector rasterization is a different process than resampling pixel data. That may result in a different distribution of the semi-transparent pixels used for the antialaising and presumably that also messes with your layer styles. There may simply be some very faint pixels that trigger the style to be rendered. Also of course some layer styles can never be smaller than 1 or 2 pixels, which at icon sizes may extend content. Therefore flattening the stuff beforehand may be unavoidable.

  • Read graphic Object properties 'scaling'

    Hi all,
    I am trying to read 'scaling' graphic Object properties values using in below code.  In case graphic having 60% that time also I am getting only 100%. So can I get some help? Thank you very much.
    function CheckScaing(doc)
       graphicObj = doc.FirstGraphicInDoc;
    while(graphicObj.ObjectValid())
            graphicObj = graphicObj.NextGraphicInDoc;
                  if(graphicObj.type == Constants.FO_Inset)
                      name = graphicObj.InsetFile;
                      var insetDpis=graphicObj.InsetDpi
                      alert(insetDpis)

    Hello,
    There is no available built-in concerning the graphic objects displayed on the canvas. All you can do use another stacked canvas to show/hide the graphic objects located on it.

  • Why are not all strokes scaled, not all objects scaled ?

    I have made a drawing. Then I want to scale it. I select to scale the strokes.
    But:
    - not all strokes are scaled: some are scaled, some are not scaled
    - several objects (that were cloned all from one object) are scaled differently and get different shapes.
    What's the cause? What am I doing wrong?
    Here you can see two screenshots: one before scaling, one after scaling to 45% and zooming in a bit.

    Hi Jacob,
    thank you very much to reply!
    Your tip solved the problem.
    I had thought that it could be something like this but didn't fint the place where the option could be (de)selected.
    It's a strange thing that also the stroke-problem is solved: can't realy explain...
    Illustrator may be the best-in-class, but you cannot imagine how much time I have already lost with this kind of 'problems'.
    Nevertheless, thanks again for helping me!
