Scaling down jpeg to insert in Appleworks document

How can I scale down a jpeg so that I can insert it into an Appleworks document? At the moment, it is transferring, but I am getting a cropped image.

  • Still having problem with PDF document video - Text Blurred on Scaling Down

Need to scale down a captured PDF document video (.mp4). but text become blurry after scale down. Any suggestions to keep the text clear and readable ?

Those two things are not the same shape. If what I am about to say is too basic, please forgive me. It might help someone else later.
The ratio of your captured image (1434 x 958) is calculated as:
    1434 / 958 = 1.496868475991649
The ratio of your export is calculated as:
    640 / 480 = 1.333333333333333
Just get the representation of them into one document, I created a Photoshop file big enough to hold them both. Then I scaled it down and took a screen shot to fit this forum's restrictions on file size.
If you look at the first image, it is difficult to see that they are different shapes.
In order to make them easier to see, I scaled down the larger layer, using the Shift key to ensure that the scale is perfectly proportional.
Now you can easily tell that the ratio of 1434x958 is much wider than the ratio of 640 X 480.
That means that you are changing the shape of the image when you export.
If you are concerned about the long edge, you could divide 640 by 1.496868475991649 and export the image at 640X428 and get closer. It is not optimum, but should look better. Optimum would have been to size your PDF to where the longer edge was evenly divisible by 16. But, too late for that.
Another choice would be to edit the video in a 640X480 sequence, and scale the PDF video down to fit that sequence - leaving a letterbox look (black bars on top and bottom). That might help the image stay sharp. Then export to 640X480 from there.

  • Just downloaded Mountain Lion and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents will open.  This is a huge disaster!  Please, anyone, I need a solution!

Just downloaded Mountain Lion 10.8.2 to my iMac and now none of my hundreds of Appleworks documents won't open.  What a disaster!  What can I do?

To resize the drive do the following:
    1. Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
After the main menu appears select Disk Utility and click on the Continue button. Select the hard drive's main entry then click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    2. You should see the graphical sizing window showing the existing partitions. A portion may appear as a blue rectangle representing the used space on a partition.
    3. In the lower right corner of the sizing rectangle for each partition is a resizing gadget. Select it with the mouse and move the bottom of the rectangle upwards until you have reduced the existing partition enough to create the desired new volume's size. The space below the resized partition will appear gray. Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.  (Note: You can only make a partition smaller in order to create new free space.)
    4. Click on the [+] button below the sizing window to add a new partition in the gray space you freed up. Give the new volume a name, if you wish, then click on the Apply button. Wait until the process has completed.
You should now have a new volume on the drive.
It would be wise to have a backup of your current system as resizing is not necessarily free of risk for data loss.  Your drive must have sufficient contiguous free space for this process to work.
Now boot your computer using your Snow Leopard DVD:
Booting From An OS X Installer Disc
      1. Insert OS X Installer Disc into the optical drive.
      2. Restart the computer.
      3. Immediately after the chime press and hold down the "C" key.
      4. Release the key when the spinning gear below the dark gray Apple logo
          appears.
      5. Wait for installer to finish loading.
Follow onscreen instructions to install Snow Leopard. Just be sure you select the new partition you created as the installer's target so you don't erase your Mountain Lion system.

  • How can I convert an Applework document to .doc (Windows)?

Does anyone know how can I convert an Applework document to .doc (Windows)?

You can save an AppleWorks word processing document as Word using File > Save As… You will need to add the .doc extension as AppleWorks won't do it for you.
If you don't see Word as an option in the file type drop-down menu you likely have moved the AppleWorks application from the AppleWorks 6 folder and/or deleted the support folders, especially the AppleWorks Essentials folder where the translators reside.

  • Will Pages under Lion be able to open old AppleWorks documents in the way that it does under Snow Leopard?

I've just read a thread  that suggested that Pages will be able to open AppleWorks documents under Lion,  is this correct?
I understood from discussions last month that one had to convert all  old AppleWorks documents to Pages or Word or some other format BEFORE upgrading to Lion as Pages would not be able to read them afterwards.
I wanted to pass on a tip that if you have used the AppleWorks password protect on your files, you will not be able to open them in Pages, so you need to open them in AppleWorks first, and take the password off, or save them as a file which is not protected, or some similar work around.

The Apple Support Community (us) just calmed me right down!  Hi everyone.  I just down loaded Lion through the Apple Apps Store and blindly went ahead and installed it, putting my mental well being in Apple's hands, having trusted Apple since my first Apple II (1974?).  But ... "What do you mean, Appleworks isn't supported?"  In a bit of a panic, wondering what was to happen to my vast (really) stock of AW documents I came to Apple Support for help.  Thanks to the input from Sue, Cornelius, Jonanna and others I took the leap and, clicking on the "OpenApple"-I, accessed the "Open With" switching the AW document to open with Pages. In a word, perfect. And, it looks like Lion has already told itself to open all AW (remember Claris?) documents with Pages.   CM
( Except I just spotted a thread titled "AppleWorks doc won't open in Pages" ... Going there next. )

  • I can't open Appleworks (or any appleworks documents)

I don't know what happened, but suddenly I can't open Appleworks. It disappeared from my dock. I made a new alias to put there. If I click on an Appleworks document the Alias icon bounces up and down once, and nothing else happens. Same if I click on the alias icon in the dock. If I click on Appleworks in the Applications menu nothing happens. If I highlight a file and try to open it under "Open With" under the File menu in Finder nothing happens. Any help anyone can provide would be appreciated, as I have a lot of important information stored in those documents. Thanks!

I had a similar problem & did what you said & AppleWorks opened from the desktop. What do I do with the folders on the desktop?
If you really applied what I described:
    +Drag the folder:+
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:AppleWorks:
    +and the file:+
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:com.apple.appleworks.pli st
    +on the Desktop.+
and if in this case AppleWorks.6 behaves correctly, you may trash the items which I asked you to move on the desktop.
Often, it's a good idea to open the
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:AppleWorks:
folder which you moved on the desktop ,
grab the "AppleWorks 6 Button Bars" file and move it in the newly created
    <startupVolume>:Users:<yourAccount>:Library:Preferences:AppleWorks: folder.
Doing that you will recover your set of custom buttons; Of course if you didn't created custom buttons this task is unneeded.

  • AppleWorks documents are being saved automatically as Unix files. How?

Working on a G3 iBook with OS X (10.3), all AppleWorks documents are being saved as Unix Executable Files by the program despite the dialogue box saying they will be saved as Appleworks documents complete with ".cwk".
After a while of successfully opening these files via Get Info/ Open As, AppleWorks itself refuses to open up and I have to reload Appleworks onto the computer from disk for another brief lifespan.
    Ideas? Help please.
    MacBook   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
The files aren't actually saved as Unix executables, your system just thinks they are. I find this kind of file confusion often occurs if permissions aren't repaired using Disk Utility after a system update.
You can "re-teach" your system what program opens those files. Click a known AppleWorks document in the Finder to highlight it & choose Get Info from the File menu. In the Get Info box, click the triangle next to "Open With." Click on this drop-down menu & choose AppleWorks 6. If AppleWorks 6 is not a choice, choose "Other" & navigate to the AppleWorks 6 application. Now click the "Change" button under the text that asks if you want to open all documents like this with AppleWorks 6.

  • Preview column and appleworks documents

My two Macs running Tiger 10.4.3 do not show a preview of Appleworks documents in the preview column of the finder.
    My Mac running Panther does.
What are possible reasons that the Tiger Macs do not show the preview?
I do note that the Tiger Macs do successfully show previews of pdf files and jpegs.
    thanks
    iMac 450 dv, Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

AFAIK the AppleWorks Finder preview is a plug-in written specifically for the Finder. That plug-in architecture was never really used much to the best of my knowledge, and over time the Finder has perhaps transitioned to a newer method of previewing content. The AppleWorks oversight may merely reflect the overall deprecated nature of this app at Apple. Consider that a tag line for iWork is "Building a successor to AppleWorks." So, eh

  • It's about attaching scaled down image

    hi...
i'm attaching an image that has been scaled down from 3040 x 2016 to 1200 x 796 (using photoshop) to a jpanel via drawImage...
it works fine, but then a message occur on the console when the program terminated :
'Corrupt JPEG data: 3304 extraneous bytes before marker 0xed'
i've tested attaching the real image (3040 x 2016)... there's no problem, but it's way too big,
    slowing down the program initialization...
so is it a problem attaching a scaled down image ?
    thanx !

Does the image open properly in photoshop? What type of image is it?

  • Is there a possibility print settings ( scaling) to affect the size of the document?

    Dear Friends
    my question is this
is there a possibility the print settings (scaling in the print window) of a document in AI CS4 to affect the size of the document when is saved as PDF file ?
the reason i am asking is that we have a dispute with a printer
the project was designed in Illustrator CS4 and it was saved as PDF
he claims the pdf document we gave him was scaled down ( due to the scaling we used in the print window when we were printing the document for proof reading )
he says the document when it was saved as pdf it kept those print settings and it scaled down the document size
i asked around various people and all of them said thats not possible
i just want an answer from an adobe expert...
    thank you in advance

    aspyro,
the printing house that produced our leaflet claims that the artwork we gave them was at a wrong size ( slightly smaller than the intented document size) we carefully examined both illustartor files ( where the project was originally designed ) and pdf ( as it was saved as after completion ) and both of them were correct when it comes to document sizethe printing house claims that the settings we had at the print window ( lets say 50% scaling) affected the output size of the document when it was saved as pdf ( and the document size was reduced at the half)
    is this possible?
In the PDF Print dialog, there is an option, Expand small pages to paper size; it is necessary to tick that if the PDF is A5 and you wish to print as A4 or similar (you can see by switching it on and off), but it is only relevant if there is a page.
The opposite option, Shrink oversized pages to paper size, may yield a slight reduction, maybe to 99% or so, even if you seem to have the correct page size.
Did you Save As PDF or Print to PDF?

  • Vectors fuzzy when scaled down?

    Hello.
I'm hoping someone can confirm this for me.
I made a logo in vector form. I have given it to my client who has then sent it off to the printer.
The printer is telling my client that it becomes "fuzzy" when scaled down.
The fonts have all been converted to outlines.
I'm no expert in print design, but is this even possible? Shouldn't the printer be able to scale down a vector with no issues at all? Is there something I am missing here?
    Thanks!

It depends on a few things.  Have you set the color as Rich Black?  Does it over-print?  Are there any strokes applied to the text?  What is the document's raster resolution set to?  Has the person viewing the file known to kick back a few the night before?  Kidding aside, outlined text will appear fuzzy reduced down in size.  This is a preview artifact and has nothing to do with how the file will appear in output...if it has been setup properly.  Everyone has to step back and remember they are looking at a monitor, not the actual hard copy proof.  A good print vendor will know the difference and not even bother you unless the fuzziness shows up on a hard copy, prepress proof.  That's the time to discuss the problem.

  • Mobile Safari scaling down pictures over 2 MP size?

Why is Mobile Safari scaling down pictures over 2 MP (apparently exactly 2000000 pixels) size?
The file size doesn't seem to matter...

Sample 1, JPEG, originally 2179*1000 pixels, being scaled down to 1090*500:

  • Firefox is scaling down the photo sizes, along with chrome and internet explorer but Firefox's photos are usually smaller

I sell products on a site, along with other sellers, that is owned by someone else.
We have many sellers there. Some of us are having problems with how we are able to view the size of our photos taken of our products that are up for sale.
From seller to seller, we have different versions of Firefox that we are using. I have the newest Firefox, which I believe is 4.
I was having, like others who use 4, the same problem seeing smaller photos before I did the upgrade as well.
It seems to be the case for most of us who are having the problem, that Firefox photos scale down smaller than Internet Explorer and Chrome.
We have been told that this may be a browser issue as the site owners say they have not made any changes. At this point we are unsure since there are so many variations from seller to seller (keep in mind that some sellers are not seeing the photos scale down through their computer).
We have asked the site owners to look into this problem further. I also wanted to see what the Firefox community had to say. Do you think it may be a browser issue? We would greatly appreciate your input.
Below are some examples of photos that have been scaled down for the sellers who are seeing a problem with smaller photos while both in Firefox; all using different versions of Firefox:
One photo that was originally the size of 419px by 1, 007px is being seen by one seller to a scaled down size of 81px by 64px.
Another seller is viewing this same photo scaled down to 163px by 329px.
Another seller is able to view this photo as the original size it was intended to be, which is 419px by 1, 007px.
The above scenario has been the worst scaled down size we have heard of so far.
Typically a photo that is the size of 1, 000px by 930px has been scaled down to 420px by 391px.
There are other examples as to size, but you can see that the photos have been scaled down quite a bit.
You can see that it has been scaled down to less than half of the original size. This can pose a real problem for us depending on the type of product that is being photographed.
    Thank you!!

    Thank you!!

  • How to insert a word document or an RTF document into RichTextEditor?

How to insert a word document or an RTF document into af:richTextEditor. I am using Apache POI for reading the Word document and getting its contents. I am able to display the whole content of the document except the table and image within the document. The data in the table is getting displayed as a string and not as a table inside the editor.
Can we insert a word/RTF document into a rich text editor?
Can we insert images into the rich text editor?
The following is the code that I used. On clicking a button the word document has to be inserted into the <af:richTextEditor>.
    <af:richTextEditor id="rte1" autoSubmit="true"

    <af:commandButton text="Insert at position" id="cb2">

    Hi,
images are not yet supported. Its an open enhancement request for the rich text editor.
For tables, it seems they are supported but in a basic way (just HTML 4 style) if I interpret the tag documentation correct

    Welcome James!
For no cost, you can try the open-source productivy suite LibreOffice. I don't have any AW files here to test but there are reliable reports that LibreOffice can open at least some AW files:

Please turn off your caps lock key. All-caps text is harder for us to read and is considered "shouting" or "anger" by most internet text conventions. Thanks!
