Scaling Fonts with monitor resolution / Window sizing

How can I ensure that my fonts scale themselves to the monitor resolution, along with the controls? I do my development on a 21" monitor, and when I take them to the floor, the front panels rescale, but the fonts remain the same, and labels / scaling values end up piled on top of one another. It ends up looking like a jumbled mess.

I had the same problem. I found that you have to use system font (Ctrl-1) to make it scalable.
Or you have to setup 21'monitors on the floor
But if you find another way, would you please let me know.

Problems with monitor/resolution after software update

I installed the latest security update tonight, and now my monitor no longer properly works with my mini. I have a Dell 2005FPW. I was using 1680x1050 resolution with no problems. When I rebooted after the update, I noticed my resolution had been changed... and now the mac only detects my display as a "VGA display" and I can't select that resolution any more! The monitor still works fine with my PC.
How can I get my 1680x1050 back??

Do you have a KVM switch to share your monitor between your Mac and your PC? I was getting this problem when I got one of these so my new Mac could share my monitor etc with my old one but found a way round it. In System Preferences -> Displays, tick the 'Show displays in menu bar' box. Then click on 'Detect displays' from the drop down menu. The screen will go blue for a moment and the computer will recognise the monitor for what it is.

External monitor resolution limited

I have a new 24" iMac, and have hooked up my Samsung 245BW 24" monitor through the DVI path (DVI to mini-DVI adapter). The monitor detects and works, only the resolution is limited to 1680x1050 in the Display Preferences. The monitor itself should be capable of 1920x1200.
The one wrinkle in this scenario is that I restored my Home directory from a Backup from my old 15" Powerbook G4 whose hard drive started going south last night (hence the new computer). Is it possible it's remembering some settings from that, and thus limiting to only the resolutions that were available to my old laptop?
I could copy all the data off that I want to keep, reformat and reinstall and start fresh on this machine, but I don't want to go through all that and still have a resolution problem.
Anyone else have this combination working properly?

1280x1024 is the native and maximum resolution of this display, any other resolution would have to be scaled. With higher resolutions, they have to be scaled by the graphics card or the monitor... not all graphics cards support that.
I dont think your monitor is able to scale higher resolutions, and i'm unsure whether the HD4400 drivers allow you to do that.
FYI: Scaling brings quality loss, a 19 inch full HD is less then 100dollars these days -> connected via the displayport to HDMI, gives a way nicer (digital) picture, then analog vga upscaled...

Mouse pointer is unchangeable at 100% scaling in multi monitor setup with different resolutions

I have every update installed without exception, latest drivers etc. I use a 55" 4k screen with 2x1080p monitors in portrait on either side. All are connected through 1 Nvidia

I'm looking into this issue but it will take me some time to provide a reply.
In the meantime I noticed that you have 3 monitors with 1x 55' and 2x27' - please have a try to only connect 1x27' monitor and see if issue persists.
Also please try to change the screen resolution to a lower size and see if issue persists.
Both suggestions are not solution, I just would like to know if it is related to multiple monitor or screen resolution.

Scaling dimensions of controls according to monitor resolution in Labview ver 8.6 (Windows)

Hello. I got a VI containing a lot of controls and indicators; the Vi was made on a 1920x1080 resolution and it occupies the full screen.
I need a way to automatically scale all controls as window scales in different (minor) monitor resolution. Vi settings make controls not to scale properly and to loose their relative position.
In the past, I used multiple VI to distribute controls, now I cannot.
What' s the better way to solve the problem?

Dual monitor setup with seperate resolutions

hey guys!
i currentley run thye latest version of archlinux with the cinnamon desktop environment and an nvidia geforce 7300SE graphics card.
im running a dual monitor setup with one 27" 1920x1080 monitor and one 27" 1024X768 monitor
because they have the same physical size they line up perfectley but because the resolution is different programs/mouse cursor movement doesnt, is there any way (without changing the resolutions) to compensate this effect so that in the eyes of linux/cinnamon the monitors line up so that for example dragging a window goes seamlessley between the 2 monitors.
i HAVE found out the panning option in the nvidia x server settings, but that really isnt what i am looking for...

A magnifier following the window down to the pixel, zooming to the exact size of 540 pixels the 384 pixels window could create an illusion of just that. It would be highly impractical however, not mention all the hacking time. Even if you would manage to get two screen with different sized icons, so that they match visually, the windows and fonts resizing on the fly, wmctrl might help with windows alone, no their themes (buttons, borders thickness etc.), you would still be left with a visually differently sized mouse cursor. Technically such a feat should be possible, but who is going to code it? Nvidia?

Need help with window sizing in unix

hi all,
i am building an application that will run on a silicon graphics machine with unix. my application has a jframe with a jtabbedpane attached to it. when the application is launched the jframe is the size of the monitors resolution but the jtabbedpane is not. this is not the case on a windows machine. i am using toolkit to get the window size from the machine for the jframe. do i need to use this for the jtabbedpane as well. can anyone help me with this problem.

The difference is sizes between platforms may be due to Font-size differences of the components in the tabbed pane which results in the overall size of tabbed pane being different on the two platforms.
To get the tabbed pane to appear the same relative to the frame, you should explicitely 'setBounds' on the tabbed pane as well as size the frame.

If you have used the Displays system preference to arrange the monitors next to each other, you should be able to stretch a movie player window across both monitors.
I do not think there is a way to show the movie full screen across both monitors, because full screen usually takes over just one monitor.

Scaling issues with Windows 8.1 and 3200x1800 displays?

What about scaling issues with CS6 Illustrator and Photoshop? I have a hidpi 3200x1800 13" laptop with win 8.1 and can't use the software because of the tiny text.

CS6 was released before HiDpi displays were common and there are no adjustments in that program.
You can try going into Preferences > Interface and changing the UI Font Size to Large.
You could also try lowering your display resolution until is decently readable.
Another step is joining Creative Cloud. Photoshop CC 2014 has 200% UI Scaling.
$50/month for all apps or $10/month for Photoshop/Lightroom.
There are intro and educational offers if you can get on them.

Secondary Monitor Resolution Dropped with Mavericks

After installing Mavericks (should have waited) my second monitor resolution has suddently dropped. It still claims to be 1080p but it is clearly not the same resolution as it was before and has been reduced.
So annoying.
Any ideas?

the same for me too. I'm using an external monitor from NEC with a native resulition of 1920 x 1200.
The monitor is connected to a mac mini server from mid 2011 via HDMI.
In OSX 10.8 the OS automatically selected 1080p as the best resolution which was not correct but I could choose it manually from the list of scaled solutions.
In Mavericks the native solution of 1920 x 1200 has gone from the list. Only 1080p and 1080i are listed.
This is very annoying.
But:
If I activate my apple tv as a second screen (new feature in Mavericks) all resolutions that disappeared with Mavericks are here again and working fine including 1920 x 1200. As soon as I disable the second screen feature the resolutions fade away...
I just downloaded a command line tool for switching the resolution manually. This works until the machine is rebooted...
Any tips / hints?

Issues with 1920 resolution, fonts look tweak and broken

i just bought a new led display, wich allows 1920x1080 resolution.
With this resolution fonts looks like tweak and broken, very annoying.
Firefox is the only application that suffers this problems. Opera and Internet Explorer looks perfect, and also all the others applications installed.
Clear Type option is activated, and works perfectly.
The only way to solve the probleme is to reboot firefox and execute in safe mode.
I have no extensions nor personal preferences (bookmarks either). I've just uninstalled Firefox with all personal data and reinstalled. And the issue stays.
In safe mode all looks perfectly.
I'm running windows 7 64bits
Graphics: RADEON HD 6950

I did a test using Chunk and a few other fonts that are similar plus one I know works well and the fonts that are similar to Chunk tend to look very pixelated when viewed in Firefox. Look fine in Chrome and Explorer...
This might be something that the techs at Adobe (Type Kit) would have to look at.
I posted an image, but not sure if it shows the problem that well.

Samsung 204BW 20" Monitor with Incorrect Resolution

I have a Samsung 204BW 20" monitor attached to a PowerBook G4.
It used to work perfectly fine until 2 weeks ago when it died. I sent it for repair to Samsung. I got it back today. However, when connected, I can only see a 1280x1024 resolution, rather than the correct one, 1680x1050.
When I get the SyncMaster menu under /System Preferences/Displays, the larger resolution shown for the monitor is 1280x1024. Somebody at Samsung suggested to reinstall the nVIDIA driver (graphics card), but the driver is not available on nVIDIA's website. In fact, their site mentions that in the case of notebooks, it is generally the manufacturer who updates drivers for their cards, given the often tailor-made solutions required in those instances.
Anybody can help?
BTW, I used to have the correct resolution shown before the screen turned black and I had to send the monitor to the repair shop. The monitor is working now, except for my inability to see the correct resolution.

You have no idea what a nightmare going through Samsung customer support has been. To make a long story short, please read the following paragraph.
They have different levels (1,2, etc.) of support, and there were contradictory answers. Some people would point me to download the newest driver version for the video card, mine is nVIDIA. When you go to the nVIDIA site, it clearly specifies that video cards for laptops follow very unique specifications, and should be dealt with the computer manufacturer, so no driver download at the end. Others at the company were saying we cannot point you anywhere, the video card is from a different company. A real disaster. I ended up hanging up after more than 3 hours online on two different days.
Anyways, still not able to get the maximum resolution potential from the monitor.

Changing monitor resolution with proper aspect ratio

My project size is 800x600 and I wanted to provide an option to the user to change their monitor resolution at 800x600 by clicking on button. I have also planned to do it by using buddy api xtra, and already tested it. The problem is, when I am doing this on a PC with panoramic monitor (native resolution 1920x1080), it got stretched. I know it's very natural (as the aspect ratio has changed ) and I can get it in shape by squeeze the width using 'draw.rect'.
I noticed, there are some PCs with advanced display card that don't even get stretched, but shows the 800x600 resolution in proper aspect ratio by keeping the extra space black both sides. And I don't need to write any further codes (squeeze the width using 'draw.rect') to keep it in shape.
The real problem starts here, I can't able to filter the above situations by any logical means. I wanted to write codes only for the PCs that get stretched, but I didn't able to find any support from Director to determine which type of display card has been attached. I need to know whether it will get stretched, or the display card can able to manage the aspect ratio.
Any one have any solution in this matter?

You don't need an xtra to change the resolutions - but you do have to work a few things - I tend to use flash text because it scales better.
