Scaling images in PDF files.

I apologise if this is the wrong place to post this question but I cannot see any more appropriate discussion group.
When creating a book type PDF I want to be able to show image files within pre-determined window sizes but retain the original size of the image. I know this can be done for browser applications to fit large images on the screen but would like to know if this can be done in PDF, and if so, how?

Images attached by buttons action using the built-in event.target.buttonimporticon() activity on mouse click event.
Once the image file is selected ( after the button is clicked )  the image will be displayed as icon on top of the button.

  • How to add image in pdf file

    Hello everybody,
I need to place an image in pdf file programmatically on a specific location. Would you please help me what should I use to do this task?
    Thanks.

You probably want to use a PDF library designed for the task (or a
stamping tool). Are you looking for recommendations for such a tool?
    If so, what platform/environment/programming language?
Or, are you looking to do it by directly read/writing the PDF file?

  • Editing Image From PDF File To Use in AI Document

    Hello,
I am a beginner user of AI and am having trouble with editing certain images from PDF files on Illustrator. I'm not even sure what I'm trying to do can be done on Illustrator or requires Photoshop.
    A) Here is the first example (Note that this is only similar to the type of image I am talking about. It is not the exact one as I don't have access to it right now):
So let's say here are the things I want to do. (1) Extract it from the PDF file, (2) transfer it to my AI document without blurriness, (3) change the white background of the image to another color (eg. grey), (4) and embolden the lines presently in the image. If you can advise what's the way to perform these tasks?
I have used image trace at times but if the photo is too light, portions of it will vanish. The portions that do remain become way too bold. It would be great if there was a way I could make most if not each components of the image controllable/movable. Is it possible?
Also, what if I want to erase some of the text on the image? I have tried using the eraser tool but it does not erase on images.
    B) How would I go about removing the background of a photo like this and replacing it with a color?
Please keep in mind that I am a complete neophyte when it comes to using Illustrator, Photoshop etc so take this into consideration when explaining. Thanks in advance

    Trent,
To make a clear and clean drawing like A), it is better to use the image as a locked template and recreate with the native tools; most things can be made with the Rectangle Tool and the Ellipse Tool, some with the Line Segment Tool or the Pen Tool; and you can use different Window>Pathfider operations.
It is probably easier to get rid of the surroundings in B) using Photoshop where you can erase colours within a range; the grass seen through the windows may be treated by itself, and you may wish to keep the shadow.

  • Don't know how to store/show image or pdf files easily in apex app

    Hi,
I always want to put a blob column in my table and store some images or pdf files, like drawings for an item, but I found it hard to do, I have viewed the sample app by apex 4.0, but I cannot understand the code.
Is there a simple and intuitive way of storing/showing pdf files in an apex app?
I wish Oracle could make an easier wizard for apex on that issue.
just make storing a file as simple as in MS access, or email attachment, etc.
    no headache coding involved.
    that will be great!
that will also do Oracle good, since images will use up a lot of spaces, maybe Xe won't be enough, the will consider an upgrade.

    Yawei,
there is a chapter about BLOB support in the application builder users guide: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E17556_01/doc/user.40/e15517/advnc.htm#BCGGJHEF
Maybe this helps for a start, even if it isn't as easy as in MsAccess but this may be due to the fact that APEX is a web application and Access a rich client.

  • Images into pdf files

Hi all, sometimes iBooks doesn't show images into pdf file.
I usually read the same newspaper every day (pdf) and sometimes I experience that trouble.
Also into iTunes thumbnail you couldn't see the images, but by double-clicking on the file, when you open Acrobat, the file is ok with all images.
It seems the problem is not the original pdf file but some things/settings/encoding.. into iTunes/iBooks.
    Any help?
    Thank you.

More information is needed.  How are the PDF's being created?  Where are they coming from?  All the same source or any PDF you open on the iPad?  Have you tried a reset?  Restore?  Other?

  • Phantom image in PDF file

I am working with Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro and MS Office 2007; my PC runs under Windows XP. I am experimenting with the MS Word "book fold" option and, so far, I got great results. Because this document must be printed overseas, I created it in A4 paper, which gives me two pages per each side of the sheet. What I do then is to print to Adobe Acrobat, rather than creating a PDF file. This is because the MS Word "book fold" option only becomes active during printing.
In any event, in one of the files, which has multiple sections and mirrored margins, I deleted an image from the headers (odd and even) of all the sections in which this image existed. When I convert the file to PDF from within MS Word, everything looks normal; same when I print the file or when I do a print preview. However, when I print the file using Acrobat as a printer, the deleted image shows on the headers of all odd pages. I made sure to use "A4" on the Acrobat printer settings and, after being playing with all the available options, I still obtain the dreaded phantom image.
What can I do to get rid of that recurrent image?

    Hi there,
After making sure that I had all the updates for Windows XP, MS Office 2007 and Acrobat CS4, the problem persisted. Before taking the time to create a brand new document from scratch, I decided to revert the paper size from A4 to Letter. This, obviously, changed the margins and, in some cases, because of shorter length of the Letter paper, it forced some page breaks. To my surprise, I could see the "phantom" image in the header of all the odd pages that had been created with the new page breaks. Needless to say, I deleted those images from the headers and reverted the paper size to A4. After printing the file to the Adobe PDF printer driver, the resulting file no longer showed the phantom image.
The moral of this story is that, if printing using the Adobe PDF printer driver, we must create the file in A4 from the beginning. Alternatively, if converting from Letter to A4, we should make sure that no unwanted image or text is still present in the Letter format before the conversion.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Why are white lines appearing in images in PDF files but not the original InDesign files?

    Hi folks!
Let me just start out by saying that I'm not a graphic designer and have basically no experience with graphic design programs, aside from the little futzing around I've tried to do with InDesign. My company (which publishes a monthly magazine) has decided that it would be a great idea to get the files to our magazine from the graphic design firm that actually handles the production end of things so that we may offer back articles, etc., and modify them as needed. Somehow I've gotten assigned the task of handling this. However, I've encountered some problems along the way. The graphic design firm uses Quark, we own InDesign (CS3) and use Markzware to convert the files. Most things seem to work okay in this arrangement but I'm having problems with the images in the file when I create PDFs. Although the images look fine in the InDesign files (and are of print quality), when I create PDFs of some files, thin white lines appear over the images in the PDF document. I asked our graphic designer about this but she has no idea, and she isn't very familiar with InDesign.
So, my question is, where are these lines coming from and how do I stop them from appearing? As a reminder, I'm not a graphic designer and am fdairly ignorant in design software terminology. If you're kind enough to try to help me with this problem, I'm going to require an explanation in plain English. Basically explain it to me like you would to a 10 year old.
If anyone can help, I'd greatly appreciate it!
    Thanks in advance,
    Lynn

I think Bob was typing too fast and meant to ask if you were distilling, not to tell you distill.
Distilled PDF (you get distilled by printing to PDF rather than exporting) always flattens transparency, which is what makes those white "stitching" lines.
You can make the stitching disappear on screen by turning off smoothing in the Acrobat prefs, and it shouldn't print on a press, but it sounds like you may be doing the output on a digital machine and it's likely to show on the lower resolution output.

  • Photoshop CC crashes when exporting image to PDF file

    Hello all,
I have recently started using PS, and when I attempt to save an image as a PDF, it makes it to about 97% and leaves a temp file, but crashes before it can complete. I have provided a copy of the crash log below:

All my video drivers are up to date, as I have seen that recommended in several other places. I am running an 8.1 system 64-bit. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

What PDF preset are you using?  If high quality print, try flattening the image, and saving again. If that works, then it might point to something fonts.  Obviously a flattened JPG is entirely useless as a PDF file, so it needs fixing.
When Chris Cox (Senior Adobe Computer Scientist — apparently several steps up from a rocket scientist) finds this thread, he is probably going to tel you that your truncated crash report doesn't tell him anything.

  • Extract image in PDF file - vba code in Excel

    Hi All,
I am applying a solution for my company. We have some Front offices which receive customers' requests in paper form.
We have one Back Office which is receiving the customers' original paper requests from Front Office via courier mail.
To improve the efficency, I am trying to apply a solution which allow the Front Offices to scan the paper requests into PDF files.
Those scanned files will be accessed by Back Office to process.
Given the volume of the requests, it is impossible to open each file in the folder by clicking mouse.
I have completed the tool (using Excel and vba ) which displays all of the requests (PDF files) as hyperlinks in Excel list.
The requests are ranked with priority so that the Back Office people know which to process first.
    That solution works well.
However, Back Office has just requested me to display certain fields in the PDF files as image in Excel's cells so that they can type the information to the system without having to open the PDF files.  The way that the images are displayed on Excel cells is an extraction of part of PDF page.
I know that in Adobe Reader, I can use my mouse to select part of the area then copy to clipboard, so I hope that we can do the extraction programmatically.
Could anyone can help me figure out how to implement above extraction solution in Excel vba?
    I am facing 2 concerns:
    1. Acrobat SDK:
I don't know if my company purchased license of Acrobat SDK or not.  But when I open Excel VB editor, I can see in "Reference" menu the below items:
+ Adobe Acrobat Browser Control Type Library 1.0
+ Adobe Acrobat 9.0 Type Library
+ Acrobat Access 3.0 Type Library
Are the above enough for my application?
    2. VBA code for extraction of part of PDF files:
    - What should be on the vba code for the extraction?  Which functions I should use?
    Thank you very much
    Cheers

The functionality that you require is not available to VBA/COM - it is only exposed via C/C++.
However, you could retrieve the ENTIRE page image to the clipboard and then use whatever VB/VBA methods you choose to grab a section of the image.
Of course, this all assumes that Adobe Acrobat is installed on each person's computer that will be using the solution since Reader does not have the necessary APIs and Acrobat can't be installed on a server.
