Scaling just the end tile of pattern brush

Is it possible to scale or transform just the end tile of a pattern brush without scaling the rest of the brush along the path?

Duplicate the Brush. Have one Brush contain the side tile artwork; have the other Brush contain the end tiles. Apply two Strokes in the Appearance Palette. Use one Brush for each Stroke. Now you can adjust the end tiles separately from the side tiles without resorting to expanding the Brush artwork, because they are separate Brushes.
Use the 2-stroke Appearance to define a Graphic Style to make the combination easy to apply to additional objects.

My letter t is corrupt when it appears at the end of certain words--really!

This is such a weird problem that none of the AppleCare people I've spoken to have ever heard of it before. As of a few days ago, when I type words that have the letter to at the end--simple words like that, next, what, at or best--the last t in the word turns into a symbol that looks like a cross. Here is an example:

Look at the t at the end of the first word. As you can see it doesn't happen every time because isn't and right are fine. It's totally random. It also never happens at the beginning of a word, just the end. It happens in all apps, including Gmail, Word, Text Edit, Facebook, Mail, etc. I† happens in any font I use. As you can see, it just happened at the beginning of this sentence in the word It!
So far Apple has had me reinstall Snow Leopard and that did nothing. They had me switch to a different keyboard and that did nothing. On my own I went into System Preferences and set it up so that the cross symbol would be substituted by t and that doesn't work either.
The only thing that offers me a clue is that when we set up a new user account it didn't seem to happen in there, although I really haven't played with that enough yet to know if it's definitely not a problem in there. So it's very likely user-specific but I can't say for sure. Since I already reinstalled the OS and it didn't go away I doubt that doing a clean erase and install would help either because this corruption seems to be in some file somewhere. I assume that if I start from scratch and do a backup from Time Machine the problem will follow me there too.
Does anyone have the slightest clue wha† is going on here and how I can fix this? Any suggestions are GREATLY appreciated. It's totally annoying and bewildering!

Audio cutting out at the end of my video

So I exported a AVCHD video into an uncompressed AVI and then re imported it. I brought it into the time line and edited it a bunch and also brought in another video and mixed that in. For about half of the video, I used the audio from the video itself... but in different sections, I brought in a separate wav file. I used this wav file towards the end of the video for about 1 minute of the video. After I was done, I exported the entire project into a normal avi file because what I'm going to do for now is upload these to YouTube and so I don't want the file sizes to be too huge.
So I opened up the final avi file in VLC player... and everything is great... except the last 30 seconds or so of the video doesn't have the audio. It plays the audio from the wav about halfway through... and then it stops. The video continues... but there is no sound.
I went back into the project and everything looks fine. The wav file extends to the end and the audio plays fine when I preview the video. So I exported again just to see if it was some sort of error the first time... but no... it did the same thing.
So why is the audio cutting out at the end? How do I fix it?

Ok I figured out how to do a better quality MP4. However I had two problems. 1... the quality isn't near as good as the AVI. 2... now the audio cuts out in even more places instead of just the end. It seems that the .wav file I imported is causing the problems. In the AVI, the wav file cuts out at the end. In the MP4, the wav file cuts out in the middle AND at the end. I don't understand why this is happening. The wav file plays all the way through normaly, and it also sounds find when I preview the video... but when I encode it... it cuts out in places regardless of the format. Is there some step I'm missing in the process to make sure the audio is all in place?

Dots at the Ends of Brush Strokes?

I just uprgraded to CS4 from CS3 and there's a problem with the brushes that I can't seem to figure out. I have the brush set to pen pressure, and at the end of each stroke, there's a dot. Like this:

I thought it may have been my drawing tablet, but CS3 worked fine. Is there anything I can do to make the brush strokes smooth?

Can I get audio to play til the end, even if I turn the page?

I know how to add a quicktime audio file, but once you turn to the next page, the audio file stops. Is there a way to set the audio to play til the end regardless of how many pages you turn? Or would I have to split up the audio and have the user play it on each page they turn to?
Are there any options for the audio player interface? Or would I have to resort to using a widget?

I've just bought the enhanced edition of The Story of Naxos, and was intrigued to see that the embedded audio files do continue playing after the page has been turned. So it's clearly something that iBooks itself is capable of handling, even if iBooks Author doesn't cater for it - and I've also submitted a feature request pointing this out.
And with regard to the "superfluous" comment, it depends entirely on the nature of the project. The one I've postponed until this feature is introduced involves recordings of Schubert songs that are supposed to be playable over the original German lyrics, an English translation, a musicological analysis and a facsimile of the score - the idea being that you can listen to the complete song while exploring various aspects of it. But it's impossible to fit all this material onto one page, and even reading it in portrait mode doesn't work, as the music stops playing as soon as the embedded images from the score appear.

Does the end of the year upgrade policy also include just Photoshop?

I understand CS3 and CS4 are eligible for upgrades to CS6 until the end of the year, but what about upgrading from PS4 to PS6? I normally upgrade to every version, but due to being layed up for 8 months with a knee injury money is extremely tight, so I was planning to wait and upgrade from CS4 to CS6. I heard about the new (now old) upgrade policy so I upgraded to CS5 a few days ago. Now I see that Adobe changed the upgrade policy again. Now I'm wondering if I can return CS5 and wait to upgrade to CS6 later in the year when I have more cash flow.

Yes, all CS3 and CS4 products, whether they're a suite or stand-alone product, like Photoshop, as a one-off arrangement this year only, can wait 'til December 31st 2012 to upgrade directly to CS6... of course, we don't know how much that will cost!
Thank you, pf22, that answers my question perfectly. I'd love to keep PS5, especially with the discount, but as I said, after being off work for so long, money is extremely tight at the moment and will be for the next couple of months.
Of course we also have the "Grace Period" coming up where you could purchase the CS5 upgrade and get CS6 for free
It looks like it's going to be a few months before PS6 will be coming out, so I may be able to swing that, thank you for an excellent suggestion.

Pattern Brush Woes: How to make the corners match up?

As you can see, theres a HUGE gab between the corner tile and the line tiles -- do you know the reason for this?

Your straight-line tile is five symbols wide. Maybe Illustrator is putting white anywhere that the five-wide design won't fit. Have your tried a brush that has just one of those shapes? Look at the results with these two hastily constructed brushes: (top, five circles per link, bottom, one circle per link)

I am trying to make a DVD of some of my photos in iPhoto 11. The photos are in iPhoto, but in one of my external hard drives. I have been able to make DVD's just recently, but not now. What can I do? At the end I get a notice of "failure

HELP, HELP, I am having difficulty making a DVD-R of some photos I have in one of my folders in iPhoto 11. I use iPhoto on my external HD. I have never had problems before today making copies of my photos using DVD-R disk. I am doing the same thing that worked before. Some of my photos are going to be put in a gallery for showing and I need to make a DVD so they can choose which ones to display and enlarge the photos. It was due TODAY! Yikes! At the end of each try I get a window saying "BURN FAILED - The burn to the OPTIARC DVD RW AD-5670S drive failed. The disk drive didn't respond properly and can't recover or retry." help...........

How are you getting the photo onto the disk to burn? Have you tried exporting then to a folder on the Desktop and then burning that folder to disk using the Finder. That will give you a data disk with just the jpeg image files in the folder.
If that's what you're doing and getting the burn failed then it's a system or optical drive issue.
If you're using the Share ➙ Burn menu in iPhoto that will create a disk with a mini iPhoto library on it that can only be used by another Mac running iPhoto.
Can you elaborate on your workflow.

Just for those who are interested, this is what cleared the "bookmark menu" trbl I had.
Open System Preferences > iCloud
Deselect the box next to Bookmarks, then reselect it.
Quit and relaunch Safari. Try a bookmark again.

hey there, so im making a video for a family event..
i drag in an audio clip all of a sudden this becomes the be all and end all, and i want to sync some vid clips to that audio track, so let's say i drag in a 10 second video clip, at the end of the 10 seconds, i want to add a transition to fade to black.. i go to the transition window.. choose the cross dissolve or fade to colour, but it will not allow me to drag it on that video clip.. it always ends up on the audio track. this bloody application is so confusing compared to final cut. please help!

Yes, that little piece of info is critical. I'd say the biggest difficulty with FCPX is the whole new language.
If I read you correctly, your Audio is in the Main Storyline (Track 1 in plain old Editorese). This makes anything else you add (above or below) a "connected clip", which we can no longer think of as "Track 2" because Jobs sez so. So, yes, you cannot just add a transition to either end of a connected clip.
No argument with Tracy's solution, because I haven't seen any other general solution presented for any attempt to treat connected clips as the main storyline. And, of course, when they were "track 1" and "track 2", you could.
An alternative solution, however, is to highlight the connected clip and press Ctrl-V to bring up the Video Animation Editor. Click the "reveal button" for Compositing: Opacity (bottom, right). Once open, there is a "fade handle" to the right top. Drag it left for however much fade you wish. (there is one on the left as well, but you were only talking about a fade-out.)
A second alternative, perhaps for future projects where everything keys on audio, may be to create a Gap clip (used to be called slug) in the primary storyline before ever dropping in the audio. Then you can add video to the main story line and modify it without having to go thru hoops to do the simplest thing.

Just downloaded the latest version of itunes now most of my tracks will not play to the end of the song.

Hi just installed latest update to itunes and have just noticed that it will no longer play my tracks all the way to the end mainly stopping around 8 sec from the end has anyone else had this problem have all ready tried deleting libery and re-installing it but still doesnt work. please help
PS All songs play ok though Media Player so not corupted data.

Just in case, check to see if "Crossfade songs" has been checked in your Playback preferences in iTunes. Here's a screenshot showing where to find it:
If it is checked, try unchecking it and click OK.

Safari hangs right at the end trying to dowload driver for epson. Its says 1 sec left but does dont end the down load and just hangs
