I have received an e-mail purporting to be from Apple asking for my personal details, my account being suspended until I do so.  Is this a scam?

  • BT asking for bank details over the phone

On Friday evening I received a call from someone saying they were from Bt.
The caller said my bill hadnt been paid and if I didnt pay it now my service would be suspended, (I was moved from quarterly billing to monthly and my direct debit had been cancelled an was now whole bill payment monthly).
When I asked where the caller was from he said the Philipines, alarm bells started ringing. I asked to speak to someone in the UK and was told I could not be transferred, I then asked for someone in the Uk to call me, again I was told it wasnt possible as they had no contact with the UK.
A call from someone asking for bank details immediately makes me suspicious, (theres lots of scams out there).
Why is it not possible to speak to someone in th UK?
    Bob

If you would like to contact one of the UK based BT Care Team who moderate this forum, they should be able to help you.
They can be contacted using this link BT Care Team

iCloud backs up your iOS device (not your Mac) automatically. You can remove the backup:
    http://help.apple.com/icloud/#/mm122d3ef202
and it will not back up again. This will not affect a backup made using iTunes. The notice you see refers to calendars, contacts, iWork documents and so on, which live on the server and are read from there by your Mac, and so will obviously disappear if you turn iCloud off altogether (which you don't need to do) or turn off Documents (which you don't need to do either).

I redeemed my gift cards which all add up to £40 but its still asking for payment details. I've tried choosing 'None' on the payment options but it's still not working. Can anybody help me?

See this article: Forgot passcode for your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, or your device is disabled - Apple Support even though you say you have never had a passcode on it, you will have to follow these steps.

In iTunes, click "Store", sign in with your Apple I.D. After singing in, click "Store" again, select "View my Account", re-enter your password and your account info will be displayed.
Click "Edit" in front of "payment information" and select "None"

  • HT201303 Why am I asked for account details if I want to download a free app?

Why am I asked for account details for a free app?

For the App Store you need an Apple ID with a credit card tied to it.
Apple will make an Authorisation Holds for a $1 to verify credit card information but will be not charge.

  • Mail ask for the password all the time

    Hello.
For the last month I´ve been experiencing problems with my mail. It ask me for the password every few seconds. I´ve have already tried all the solutions published at the help page in apple the site, but the problem is still on.
Could anyone of you give some help.
    Many thanks.
PS: if someone could send me an answer in spanish, it could be easier for me.
    Thanks.
    IBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hola Luis.
I’ll reply in English, amongst other reasons because that allows me to copy & paste between posts, but let me know if there is something you don’t fully understand. You can post in Spanish if you want. BTW, you can make your life easier in these forums by going to System Preferences > International and moving English to the top of the list. The next time you launch an application, it'll be all in English.
Open /Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access, choose Keychain First Aid from the application menu, and proceed to repair the keychain. If that doesn’t work, you may try removing the password entry from the keychain and letting Mail create it again.
Note that Mail often doesn’t correctly report what the problem really is. If Mail can connect to the server but cannot log into your mail account for some reason, it’ll ask for your password, regardless of whether that’s really the problem or not. Don’t keep entering the password every time, because that’s not the problem (click Cancel instead, and take the account back online afterwards).
Some ISPs refuse connection attempts if they are too frequent, for example, or limit the number of simultaneous connections that are allowed from the same IP address, or the account may have become full, or there might be a problem with the network, or there might be a problem with the server... If the latter (i.e. if there is a problem with the network or the server), the problem will probably fix itself after some time for no apparent reason.
Actually, if Mail asks for the password every few seconds, then you’re probably checking for mail too often, and that alone could be the reason you have this problem. What’s the time interval chosen in Preferences > General > Check for New Mail? If it’s set to Every minute, try changing it to Every 5 minutes.
Go to Apple Menu > System Preferences > Network, choose Network Port Configurations from the Show popup menu, and make sure that the configuration used to connect to Internet appears at the top of the list.
Also, try using a different method to connect to Internet, if possible, or connecting the computer to Internet as directly as possible, i.e. bypassing any routers that might be present, using an ethernet cable instead of wireless, etc., and see whether that makes a difference.

  • Mail asked for a password each time it starts

I've used gmail (IMAP) for several months with no problems, until recently. Now Mail asks for a password each time it starts, then again when I try to send a mail. Despite re-entering the password and checking the box for the password to be stored, I'm prompted again the next time I re-start Mail.
I've tried several remedies described here in support discussions including:
    1. delete the imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com entries in the keychain then re-enter the password via Mail.
    2. run keychain first aid.
    3. manually enter the passwords in keychain
    4. use disk utility to repair all permissions
None of the above remedies have worked for me.
With some trial and error, I've discovered that setting Access Control for the two Keychain items (imap.gmail.com and smtp.gmail.com) to "Allow all applications" (rather than the default "Confirm before allowing" with "Mail" as the listed application) does work.
So it appears that Keychain allows Mail to store the passwords but then does not allow Mail access to retrieve the stored passwords once Mail is restarted when "Confirm before allowing" is set.
Although now I have a "Work-around", does anyone have an idea of what's broken and how to fix it? Thanks.

OK. I tried the "Keychain Reset" and it did not work. The reset created a blank keychain file. I entered the mail passwords after starting Mail.app, then quit Mail. When I restarted Mail.app, it prompted again for the previously entered password. No change.
The clue to the problem is the current "work around". If I set "Allow All Applications" the Keychain allows Mail.app to use the stored passwords. Of course this defeats part of the security.
