Scammed? lost iphone found - now disappeared off icloud

Hi,
My husband, Ernest's, brand new iphone 6 was lost (stolen) last week and via icloud i enabled "lost phone mode" and entered by own mobile number. Last night I received an SMS indicating that the phone had been found (giving me the last digits of the serial number) and directing me to an apple support site (http://appleisupports.com) to verify the details, which I did,.... after that, there was an email that there was a sign in on Ernest's icloud and I changed the password immediately, but could not find any trace of his iphone on find-my-iphone (before this the phone would show with status offline) anymore.
Now, I am pretty sure that this was a scam to get access to the account and erase the lost phone mode, which they (whomever they are) completed successfully. Needless to say is that I have not been informed of the location of the stolen phone....
I would like to know who I could report this to, within the apple support community, to avoid other people making the same mistake.
Picture of the SMS attached
Thanks, Josee

My understanding is that changing the password does not prevent Find My iPhone from continuing to work with the account.  However, they may have forced it into recovery mode and restored it.  This would have erased it and rendered it unable to be tracked, but it could not be reactivated and used.

  • How to find my lost iphone if wireless is off?

how to find my lost iphone if wireless is off?

If you had enabled find-my-iPhone before it was lost, you could track it as long as it had a data connection - either 3G or wifi, doesn't matter which just so long as the iPhone and the iCloud servers can talk to each other.  But, in order to track it at all, you need to enable the find setting under your iCloud account's settings on the iPhone before it goes missing.
After it has been lost (and without the tracking setting enabled), with or without a data connection, there is nothing you can do to track it remotely.

i lose my iphone but i turn off icloud >> how i can use ( find my phone )   or another way or another sofware to find my iphone
    please help me

You have to have iCloud enabled and Find My iPhone set to On on your iPhone in order to find it.  If you're saying you turned this off before losing it I'm afraid you're out of luck.

  • My contacts just disappeared off iCloud

My contacts just disappeared off my iphone having not deleted them or fiddled with the settings. They have also deleted in a similar fashion off my Mac book pro. These seems to be because they have disappeared off my icloud. Please help!
    thanks

    Missing contacts:
Here's a test to perform - using a computer's browser, log into icloud.com and go to the Contacts page.  If they are gone, then they are gone (is someone else using the same account as you, like a spouse or child?).
If they show up, then the problem is that your device is not connecting to the Contacts database on icloud.
On the device, go to Settings>icloud.  Be sure icloud is on and using the right ID.  If not, scroll to the bottom of the page and tap Delete Account - this just disconnects the device from that account, no data is lost.  Then log back in using the correct ID.  ALSO - be sure the Contacts are turned on (on the same screen).
Note:  Contacts are not part of an iCloud backup, since they are part of contacts database on iCloud's servers.   So performing a restore will not help.
    Contacts are gone from icloud.com.
Then they have been deleted.  There are many reasons for this.  One possibility is that someone else is using the same iCloud account (family member, etc.) and they deleted contacts, thinking they did want them on THEIR device.  How to get them back?  Unfortunately, an iCloud backup does not include any of the sync databases, like contacts, notes, calendars, reminders, etc. because the data is already stored in these databases.  Your only hope for restoring the data is if you had that data on a computer (like a mac's Contacts, Calendars, etc.) and that data was backed up using whatever backup software you typically use (e.g. Time Machine on a mac).  Just restore the data files back to the computer.  Other than that, I'm afraid the data is gone.

  • Lost iPhone that is turned off.  Any way to turn it on?

I think I lost my iPhone, which was turned off, in the garbage.  Is there any way to turn it on? I just want to make sure it's not still in the house.

Even if the iPhone is turned off, as long as you have FindmyiPhone activated you will be able to ping it through iCloud, that is, through the Find my iPhone on the icloud.com website or the app, if someone you know has an iPhone and has the app on their phone.
You more than likely would have to do this within the first 30 minutes of losing your phone.  Once someone does a factory reset the device is no longer connected to the clouds.

  • HT201365 I recently lost my iphone 4s, ios 7, find my iphone on, location services off, icloud shows device offline. Personal Information in iphone(pics, docs) compromised? Please Help.

    Hello,
I recently got my iphone stolen. Its a 4S with IOS 7. Find my iphone was on. Location services were off. After stolen, went to icloud find my iphone, device was listed but offline. I put it in lost mode and a message. Put a passcode too. It said lost mode pending. After several hours, put it in erase mode. Now it says erase pending. Unfortunately there was no passcode for home screen when it was stolen.  I called my iphone several times, it went straight to voicemail. I did not report the iphone stolen yet because i want my device erased. It does not erase if no internet.
My question is this. If the iphone was turned off, can they turn it on, disable cellular data (wifi was off before stolen) and still browse the iphone with no internet connection? Pictures, notes, pdf files, text messages being accessed? Also, if they remove sim card, will activation lock still work wirth no cellular data or internet connection?
    Thank you for your help.

If the iphone was turned off, can they turn it on, disable cellular data (wifi was off before stolen) and still browse the iphone with no internet connection? Pictures, notes, pdf files, text messages being accessed?
Not if you had a screen passcode set, no, they can't.  If you didn't set a screen passcode, then they can most certainly get into your iPhone and access your information.
Also, if they remove sim card, will activation lock still work wirth no cellular data or internet connection?
Activation Lock will remain no matter what they do to the iPhone.
    Regards.

What To Do If Your iDevice or Computer Is Lost Or Stolen
    iPhone, iPod Touch, and iPad
If you activated Find My Phone before it was lost or stolen, you can track it only if Wi-Fi is enabled on the device. What you cannot do is track your device using a serial number or other identifying number. You cannot expect Apple or anyone else to find your device for you. You cannot recover your loss unless you insure your device for such loss. It is not covered by your warranty.
If your iPhone, iPod, iPod Touch, or iPad is lost or stolen what do you do? There are things you should have done in advance - before you lost it or it was stolen - and some things to do after the fact. Here are some suggestions:

  • So i have a lost IPHONE, what now?

Hi guys, i know what you all are thinking right now but this is not the case. This is my question:
Last year I found an IPHONE 5 in the street, by that time my own phone was giving me troubles and not working fine (ty sony), i had no chance of buying a new IPHONE 5 (I already owned a previous 3GS and i loved it). I saw the phone there and at first I was like "jackpot" but then i remembered how much it costed me to buy my previous 3GS so I did the right thing, i took it and gave it back to the police department in the same day.
To my surprise they called me yesterday and said that i was free to collect the iphone 5 because a year passed and no one reclaimed it and by law if i wanted so the iphone now LEGALLY belonged to me (i'm portuguese, in portugal if you find something and give it back to police after 1 year if no one reclaims it is yours).
Of course i said yes and i went to collect it, i connected the phone to itunes but it seems it is icloud locked.
What can i do to revert this? btw i can not stress enough this point, i did what was right, found an iphone 5 delivered it to the police and after one year the police gave it back to me i have the papers of the police department stating it.
    Thanks in advance,
    Pedro.

The iPhone is locked to the original owner's Apple id
    Read this

Without the co-operation of thae original owner ( unlikely in the circumstances ) you do not have an iPhone 5 you have an iBrick
there is no way of breaking the activation lock on that iPhone ever
    Sorry for the bad news

  • IPhone 5S now shutting off display, even when apps are running?

    Hi guys,
I've had my iPhone 5S since it released (and a 4S before that since its release), and just today I noticed that my iPhone 5S is automatically shutting off its screen after a handful of minutes when plugged in and charging.
My iPhones have never done this before. I have an alarm clock app, and leave that running 100% of the time when my phone is plugged in since it shows a clock on the display, and I prefer that to a blank, powered-off screen. However, just this morning I noticed that it shut off overnight (never did that before), and now -- even when I'm watching it to see if anything happens, it shuts off.
Something weird did happen this morning though: when my phone alarm woke me up, I noticed my phone was just randomly loading apps, regardless of my input. I shut it off and turned it on again, and then it stopped doing that. This likely has something to do with the new phone display issue.
I can't find a specific setting on the phone or anything that would cause it to do this. Any ideas? I would greatly appreciate it!

Hi, no idea what you tried, but...
Open console in Applications>Utilities, check the system log for the date/time of the last problem  & the Wakeup/Startup right after that for clues.

  • Why is my ipad suggesting bookmarks from my iPhone? I turned off iCloud safari and deleted all history, cookies.

I keep getting suggestions when I type a URL in safari and they are bookmarks synced to my iPhone. I did sync these bookmarks at one point to my iPad over iCloud, but since have deleted all bookmarks, cleared cache and history, turned off safari sync in iCloud between devices, turned off my iPad as well as removed safari from the multi tasking bar and I still can't figure out why these suggestions keep turning up when I type a URL. Does anyone have this problem as well, is there anyone with a solution? I turned off all safari syncing on iCloud on all of my devices as well. I have an iPhone 5 iOS 6.0.2 iPad 4 iOS 6.0.1. Thank you Apple community for devoting you're knowledge and time to us Apple users in need of assistance. I really do appreciate everyone trying to help. If there is such a thing in this situation.

Have you poked around in the settings? there are a lot of things defaulted to on that you may not need, such as background app updates, background app refresh and notifications.

  • Iphone 4 contacts disappeared - no iCloud backup, help???

I have an iPhone 4 with probably outdated operating software.
I was composing a text message when the applicaton closed abruptly.  When I opened it back up, my contact names were missing, so all I have is numbers in my address book.
I do not have an icloud or back up that I know about.
Why hasn't someone sued Apple for a class action about this if its such an issue?  Or please tell me how they can be recovered???
    Thank you!

You should never have anything only on the iphone.
The iphone is designed to bo synced to your computer or cloud based system.
Not sure how you see this as Apples fault, if you simply fail to do the very basics.
The iphone is not a storage/backup device.  Everything should be on your computer.  The iphone simply allows it to be portable.

  • Iphone camera app disappeared off my homepage

I can still access the camera from outisde the phone on the lockscreen or through the search on the far left side. There's a second thing missing, and I can't remember what it is, but it's space is empty. What can I do to get the camera to display on the homepage? This is so strange.

Try disabling restrictions first, from Settings > Restrictions. If you want to find more information about restrictions, take a look at this Apple doc -> iOS: Understanding Restrictions
Then try Resetting the Home Screen Layout from Settings > General > Reset. That would put all icons back in their default location.

  • My album art on my iphone 5 keeps disappearing

Anyone know why or how my album artwork on my iphone 5 keeps disappearing off of my phone? It has happened twice now. Its all there then i hook up to my computer to import more music then when i eject all the artwork that was there is gone. Its driving my nuts. How do I get it back?

Same here, exactly. Lots of other people are having the same issues with album art.  It faults with movies too.
    It's a software fault.
Apple don't care and have no intention of fixing it.
    They've got our money already.
I suggest you go to an Apple store and create a fuss.
That's what I'm going to do.
