Scan component broke

When I try to Copy a page a message shows in the display window ""the scanner component is broken and cannot Copy or Scan". Looking for solution. Turned printer off the on, unplugged and replugged - same message each time.

I understand you cannot copy or scan as you are seeing the message that "the scanner component is broken and cannot copy or scan".
My best suggestion to you, would be to reset the printer again and ensure the printer is plugged in directly to the wall outlet, avoiding power bars and surge protectors. This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help greatly.
If the copies or scans still will not work, you would be looking at needing a new unit. HP might have a trade in option for you or a replacement, if the printer is under warranty. If you wish to call them to find out, I will leave their contact info below.
Press the Power button to turn on the product.
With the product turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the product.
Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
Wait at least 15 seconds.
Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
Reconnect the power cord to the rear of the product.
If the product does not turn on by itself, press the Power button to turn it on.

I have confirmed that updates are downloading for the malware database, but the services themselves are crashing for some reason. I have checked what settings I know about for spam and anti-malware and have run out of options. My FIP-FS service
is terminating about once every 8 min so it's killing me in trying to figure out what is wrong.

Ok. Perhaps you used any policy System Center Endpoint Protection
Policy for OU Exchange Server or Domain.
PS. In some cases, when a large flow of messages melvare filters and DLP can take up to 4 GB of memory for each filter. I do not know how many users you have in the postal system and its architecture, but it is recommended 24 GB of memory on the server
for production environments.

An intermittent problem with acrobat.com's underlying virus scan component causes this issue. This issue happens occasionally on a small number of server instances.
The solution is to update the article again. Trying again typically routes you to a different host in the server array.

In your case, you need to reinstall the original HP software and then apply the HP Printers update 2.14, not 2.16.1 which broke HP Scan and broke the HPScanProfiles execuable link. Can you scan w/officejet 4500 to Windows 8.1RT surface

We checked the window8.1 rt compatibility to see if the the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One G510n to z printer would work on the Surface (since our 4400 would not). The 4500 is compatible. We got the wireless network set up, got the printer on the network and we can print wirelessly - yeah! BUT we can not scan. The HP Scan and Capture App only lets us use the camera to "scan" the document. We would prefer to use the glass to scan documents (they come out better). We have looked all over the web for solutions, some say to enable EWS - We accessed the printer via its IP address, but we don't see the "scan" tab all the sources say to access.
Is it possible to scan using the HP Officejet 4500 Wireless All-in-One G510n to z to a Windows Surface (8.1rt)?
(FYI we can't update any drivers, windows RT platform does not allow it and we don't have any other computer to work from.)

Hi jacorcoran. Scanning should be possible with built in scanning capability. This document shows 2 different ways to scan in the "Windows RT" section.

If this doesn't allow for scanning, the printer's scanning component will need to be troubleshot. Make sure you can do a stand alone copy (direct from the front of the printer) to ensure the scanning hardware is functioning. Let me know how it goes.

Unable to reinstall itunes 11.3.0.54

On Saturday (12/7/14) I had on screen info about the afore mentioned update, clicked to start update process, but had an message saying, failed to update try download only and install from folder, this had become the norm over last few itunes updates but no problem until now. I've un-installed all associated apple software in an attempt to re-install new version. I keep getting this message, what's this all about? Im using windows 7

How can I fix conflict with Thunderbird and my ISP (Shaw.ca) provided McAfee?

When "Real-Time Scanning" is running, Thunderbird goes to "not responding" for a minute or so and CPU usage often goes to 100 %. If I turn off "Real-Time Scanning" TB seems to work okay, but I expect I am vulnerable to viruses. This problem has been going on for a couple of weeks.
I used to use "Avira" with no problems but McAfee is provided "free" to subscribers.

You can keep McAfee if you like, just disable email scanning as explained in the wiki link cited above.

The free version of Avira might suit your needs, and by design it doesn't have the email scanning component of the paid version, a dubious benefit at best.

Connecting ATV to SP4805 Projector

Has anyone had any success connecting AppleTV to Screenplay SP4805? I have spent several hours to no avail: tried all settings, also flashed the 4805 to latest firmware 1.3.2. The projector does not recognise any signal from the 4805. I have set the output to 720p which I know should work. I am using an HDMI lead with a HDMI-F to M1DA-M adaptor which works perfectly with the signal from my DVD player. Has anygone got any suggestions?

COMPATIBILITY: Component and RGB HDTV (720p, 1035i, 1080i). DVI with HDCP for digital video and encrypted digital video. Component EDTV (480p, 576p progressive scan), Component, Composite and S-Video standard TV video (480i, 576i, composite SCART with adapter, NTSC, NTSC M 4.43, PAL: B, G, H, I, M, N; SECAM: M).
so Alley_Cat: yes, the 4805 should be HDCP compliant.
I wonder if the problem is therefore the HDMI cable or the HDMI-M1 adapter but as I said above, both work with output from my HD DVD player.
I even preset the output from the ATV (AppleTV) to 720p in case the Auto setting was preventing a handshake.
Anyone else got any suggestions?

Older iMac display stretched horizontally

I have an older iMac (family number M5521) that still works well except that everything on the screen is stretched out horizontally. I am looking for suggestions as to possible causes, possible repairs, or just recycle it!

Can you estimate how much it is stretched? Can you see the Apple at left, for example? Is the stretched even throughout the screen? There is no other distortion?
That family number is not so helpful - the processor speed is.
It's possible one of the software adjustments got out of whack, but more likely an electronic component broke. If your unit is the vintage I think, the adjustments require opening the live computer, attaching a jumper wire, and running adjustment software - not recommended unless you know the risks of injury or death. If a part broke, replacing the whole analog board is easiest, but not too cost effective at this point.
Generally, all things considered, you would probably be better off considering something newer.

Hyper-V - 'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'

Having a bit of a nightmare with Hyper-V on my Windows 8 Pro laptop - Whenever I create a new VM and try to start it I receive the following error;
'Failed to start the virtual machine 'test' because one of the Hyper-V components is not running.'
I sometimes also receive an error saying something along the lines of 'Unable to change virtual machine state'
I have done a lot of searching a seen two common answers - The first is to try removing the Hyper-V role and re-adding it - I have tried this several times to no avail. (Intel VT and all virtualisation capabilities are enabled in BIOS). The second issue

some people have had relates to editing the VMX configuration file and adding the line
hypervisor.cpuid.v0 = "FALSE" - I thought VMX files were only present in VMware Virtual Machines...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

The hypervisor event log message is generated only at boot - so this would be expected. Also vmbus should not be running on the host (I was looking at a VM yesterday)... This error message is generated only when the vid is determined not to be
running or cannot communicate with the hypervisor.
I have seen this due to anti-virus software in the past or due to driver verifier being configured. Since it looks like you checked driver verifier already do you have anti-virus software installed? If so have you followed the best practices
and exempted the Hyper-v services?

Eternal beach ball after 10.8.5 Combo Update

Just installed the 10.8.5 combo update on my mac mini (2013, i7).
Everything was, of course, working perfectly with 10.8.4
Now I get the eternal spinning beach ball just before the login.
I've already verified the boot hard drive, repaired permissions, cleared the chaches, reset pram, reset smc, etc.
Pretty much everything I can do just shy of a clean reinstall (which would've taken less time).
Boots fine in sigle user and safe mode.
Only workaround has been to remove the physical ethernet connection (using wireless) and ensure the two usb bus powered devices -- a canon lide scanner, and an Asus USB DVD burner -- are disconnected prior to booting the computer. Symptoms that are widespread and linked directly to the .5 update and are not addressed in the supplementals.
Any other possible solutions or perhaps someone knows if apple is still working on the issue?
Unplugging USB devices is merely a hassle, but not one i'm going to live with. I will take the time to reinstall and stop with the 10.8.4 update if I have to. I'd rather not, but since there was nothing wrong with the system or hardware I have no problem with stopping there. the .5 update didn't include anything i needed.
Don't waste your time posting if you are going to advise me that it's something other than the update that borked things. It's the update and I've already confirmed it. It's not my software as i run nothing aside from MS Office and Adobe CS6 beyond what apple preinstalled. Unless you can specifically point to a conflict with the files in the update and either of those two packages, keep your opinions out of this discussion. If you can, i welcome the data.

I also encountered this "spinning beach ball of death right when I'm supposed to see the login screen" issue. It happened to three of the laptops I manage (two MacBook Pro 13" retina, and one MacBook Pro 15" retina; all late 2012 models). The "spinning beach ball of death" symptoms started manifesting themselves right after I performed "software update" on them.
The symptoms: I get the spinning beach ball (or sometimes just stuck with a grey screen) when waking from sleep, when switching users, right after a reboot, right after a cold boot, just as I was trying to get back to work after the screen saver kicked in ... it doesn't happen 100% of the time, but I'd say about 3/4 of the times I expect to see a login screen, I got the spinning beach ball of death (or the grey screen of death).
This is what I think solved the problem: Rebuilding the Spotlight Search Index.

Be sure to disable screen saver, set "computer sleep" and "display sleep" timers to infinity before the start the rebuilt process (explanation below).
I also did other things like resetting PRAM, repairing disk permissions, rebuilding the directories with DiskWarrior, etc. But the best I could tell, it's the rebuilding of the Spotlight Search Index that actually did it. I speculate that the system, while trying to show you the login screen, was also trying to fetch some images or info (the users' login profile pictures, the background wallpaper, whatever), but somehow couldn't find the data and got stuck because of some issue with the Spotlight Search Index. So once the Spotlight Search Index is rebuilt, the "spinning beach ball" problem went away.
So which software update component broke the system? As counter-intuitive as it may seem, I'm pointing my finger at the component Apple calls the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update" version 5.01. As I mentioned earlier, I observed this problem on three different laptops, and I updated them weeks apart on multiple occasions ... I've gone days and weeks on two of them after the 10.8.5 Supplemental Update without problem, I've gonve days on another laptop after the Safari 6.1, Remote Desktop Client 3.7.0, iTunes 11.1.3 updates without problem. The only constant that applies across all three laptops was that right after the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update" version 5.01 was applied, the "spinning beach ball of death" symptoms started manifesting themselves. That's why I'm pointing my finger at the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility" version 5.01 update as the prime suspect. (Secondary suspects, if I have to name them, would be the Safari 6.1, Remote Desktop Client 3.7.0, iTunes 11.1.3 updates.)
On rebuilding the Spotlight Search Index ... this is a long process. It's will likely take hours (depends on how much data you have on your drive). You don't want the screen saver or the display sleep or the computer sleep timer to trigger and lead you right back to the spinning beach ball while you wait for the Spotlight Search Idex to rebuild. That's why the recommendation to disable screen saver and set the sleep timers to "infinity" before starting the index rebuild process. If you try monitor the rebuild process by eyeing at the "mds" and mdworker" CPU utilization ... don't get faked out by the occasional lulls when the system shows you that "mds" and "mdworker" CPU utilizations are zeros. "mds" and "mdworker" appear to take short breaks once in a while, and that starts up in earnest again eating up close to 100% of CPU cycles when they work. Rebuilding the Spotlight Search Index is supposed to take "hours," so best guest, I'd say wait at least one hour, then check if "mds" and "mdworker" CPU utilization figures stay consistently close to zero for a few minutes before calling it done. I do not know of any better way to tell if the system has finished rebuilding the Spotlight Search Index.
All the above are based on my experience rescueing a grand total of THREE computers back from their software update-induced "spinning beach ball of death" problem. So granted it is a very small sample base. My apologies in advance if it turns out the above does not solve the problem for you. (I'm just going to skip the "Digital Camera RAW Compatibility" version 5.01 update going forward as I have no desire to "recreate the problem" just to test my hypothesis.)

I have a problem to modify skin.css .. i have installed the createlayout component using component Wizard. if i modify the skin.css inside NewTray i could able to see my modification when refresh my page.
but if i restart my idc server ,content server overwrites my modifications , all my modifications have gone.. please help me on this issue .. I am new to this Oracle UCM .. please reply for this issue , it is very urgent.

Yep!
This is a very common usage of UCM.
Using a scan/capture product for paper capture or a desktop capture product (e.g. Oracle Distributed Document Capture or Kofax) you can have those items get checked in directly to UCM, have metadata assigned (indexed), be version controlled, rendered into alternative (webviewable) formats (e.g. tif to PDF conversion, image to xml/HTML conversion etc).
The process might go something like this ( taken from the documentation here: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E10316_01/capture.htm):
1) The Scan component imports pages in batches whether from the desktop computer environment (TWAIN compliant) or a scanning station.
2) The Index component allows users to index batches of scanned images, by assigning values to them in index fields. Users index documents using settings administrators save in index profiles. After indexing batches, users commit them, which creates documents from the images and archives them so they can be accessed in the document management system. Documents are committed using the settings selected in their assigned commit profile. You create and assign commit profiles in Capture administration, used saved indexing profiles etc.
3) The Commit Server, Recognition Server and Import Server components provide expanded functionality for Oracle Document Capture for scheduled batch commit processing on a separate server use the Commit Server component. Items are checked into the content server where they are available for additional workflow, integration, web-viewing etc.

HP Utility Quit Unexpectedly Error

I can't scan from my HP Deskjet 3054 to my Mac running Mac OS X 10.7.5. I can scan by laying the document on the glass if I start the scanning from my computer but even then I can't scan multiple pages from the paper loader.
When I click on Scan Settings in the HP Utility folder the HP utility quits unexpectedly. I downloaded the latest full driver but when I try to download the fix for this error it says I have a higher version of the scan component already on my computer.

thanks for your post and welcome to the HP Forum.
It might already be helpful if your repair disk permissions. You can do this from Disk Utility - First Aid tab, select your volume and then hit Repair Disk Permissions.
Then restart the Mac and check if you can now open and work with HP Utility. If it still fails, try again installing the fix. Help on Understanding SAP TAO functionalities

Hi,
I am a automation tester who is new to SAP TAO. Our team will shortly be working on a test automation project using TAO. I do not have access to SAP TAO yet. I have gone through the various files (PDFs, PPTs, Flash movies) available on the site to get to know what TAO is all about. I have following doubts w.r.t TAO functionalities:
1. Change Analyser & Inspection do the same job to find changes in the SAP system isnt it? How different are these two other than Change Analyser repairing the broken components?
2. What is the need for consolidation? We can directly upload transactions to QC isnt it (without consolidating)
3. Where does QTP come into picture here? Everything is between SAP TAO & QC isnt it? For the project purpose we have to integrate QTP with QC, isnt it? Or is it mandatory to have QTP.
4. Also I didnt understand the integration between UI Scanner & QTP.
These questions might seem too naive. But please help with my doubts & as how QTP is integrated with SAP TAO as none of us know much.

Soumya u2013 After I read all your questions I understood is you need to know what is SAP TAO.
In a simple first assume you donu2019t have TAO. So what you will do is using QTP with SAP add-ins you will record a simple transaction login, some actions, logoff then you modify your script like adding parameterization, etc..then you will save the script into QC & from test lab when you click on Run, first QTP launches then it will execute and store the results in QC. If it complex scenario like New Hire, OTC cycle ..it will just take plenty of time to just recording a transaction & writing a VB code.
So now using SAP TAO when you install it, it will come with some default components of SAP like. Login, logoff, get text, set text etc..around some 326 as far as I know and some recording options like PFA, Inspection, UI Scanner etcu2026 some other features also have self check, change analyzer & Repository, Consolidation , so already components were built in SAP TAO using QTP now if we use SAP TAO it helps us without recording using QTP from scratch like basic components.
So now you know some components were built in SAP TAO now how do you execute it ? For this you need a QTP to launch the script and execute it ? Is this clear now?:)
Coming to PFA & Inspection u2013 these are two recording options in SAP TAO instead of using QTP with SAP add-ins & writing plenty of code in VB. You will just insert a transaction and record or inspect using SAP TAO then you will upload script into QC then after consolidation you will execute it from lab and when you click on run, QTP launches the script and execute. i.e. means. While you are recording a transaction using SAP TAO backend there is some script is generating in your words.
Coming to UI Scanner : it scans the screens i.e. means when you insert a transaction code when you click on execute , QTP will launch and generate a script here you will not touch with any QTP script once you scanned automatically scanned component will be uploaded into QC and when execute this , QTP will launch and execute the script.
Coming to Consolidation: Forget about all these Object Repository etc...In a simple Consolidation is nothing but you is just consolidating all your components in single component and making a final component and will increase the performance of the script. Ex: using PFA or UI Scanner you will record a transaction (i..e. Test scenario) then you will upload into QC. Then you will modify some changes to the scenario liking adding Logoff, Capture screen, Get Text etc...Then you will consolidate the script using SAP TAO then you will drag that into test plan then test lab and execute. Once you will execute QTP launches the script and execute the script. Removing components means for example using PFA you recorded a script there are unnecessary things like check transaction, messages etc...You don't need some times so u will remove those things in QC level and nothing to do with QTP here. QTP just comes into the picture when you will execute it from Lab only.
If you don't use consolidation option every time QTP initialize the script and execute every step so if you have 20 components added in your script so 20 times QTP initialize the script so that performance will be slow if you consolidate all , it will initialize once then execute rest of all scenario fast.
Just want to tell you never go for Inspection option for recording you should be very familiar with all screens and numbers then only you can make good script and its waste of so much time to identify all screen numbers and compare each. So better to go for UI Scanner or PFA. You should know when to use PFA and when to you use UI Scanner. PFA is good for if transaction has 20 to 30 screens like New Hire action. UI Scanner you can go for min screens. Ex: all P2P, OTC etc....& will not recommend using Inspection.
Any automation test script execution you need a QTP, think practically how can you execute a script with only QC & TAO is a just option where we can utilize existing components and can be used for easy instead of recording using QTP with SAP add-ins & writing plenty of VB code.
So now you will know your above question answers if you understood correctly
SAP TAO is a front end tool it integrates with QC, QTP & BPT.
