    hi
i'd like to ask question about linked server.
my linked server used to work but now when i try to select from linked server i was told "The OLE DB provider for linked server reported an error. The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure Cannot fetch a row from OLE DB provider
    for linked server"
but in fact for test connection i was told "the test connection to the linked server succeeded".
could  anyone help me? thank u very much
    best regards

    Hi,
In addition to Tracy's post we have to know those answers as well:
    * what provider are you using for the connection
    * what do you connect to
for example, if someone try to connect to oracle using sql server provider then several simple queries are going to work probably OK, but once you are trying to use T-SQL or any complex SQL query then the errors are starting.
please post the connection string (without the password!) + the query that you are trying to use.

  • Smpatch analyze error: Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve detectors: RSA p

    Has anyone seen this before?
I just installed Sun Update Manager on a E250 running Solaris 10. I tried registering using the Wizard, but when I chose the "Apply updates manually" button, then Finish, I get the message: System registration failed; exiting application

    Am I missing a step?

    Hi Scott:
I have failures when doing registration via the GUI or smpatch from a shell. Output of smpatch command as follows:

  • Failure - Cannot connect to Microsoft SQL Server on localhost

    Hi!
I have a sqlserver installation on localhost and I want to connect with sqldeveloper.
I fill connection name, username, password, hostname: localhost port: 1433
and then click on retrieve database.
I get the following error message: "Status: Failure - Cannot connect to Microsoft
    SQL Server on localhost"
I don't know the reason. I can use another connection to another ms sql server
and it's no problem, but can't connect to localhost.
I have special signs in my computername, for example a "-". Is this the problem?
    How can I solve it?
    Thank you
    Andreas

I am able to successfully connect to my local SQLEXPRESS instance using the following settings:
    Hostname: localhost
    Port: 1433/DBName;instance=SQLEXPRESS
Even though I use this to connect, I cannot open a tcp connection to port 1433 via telnet. I believe this goes hand in hand with specifying the instance. As I understand it, there are two ways to specify the port, one is directly, the other is through a named instance (another port is used as a service to look up the correct port). SQL Server 2005 appears to prefer named instances instead of specific ports. When "instance" is specified, the port can actually be any number, the driver apparently ignores it.
The Retrieve database (list) appears to be only for informational purposes. I have to specify the database in the Port field (DBName) regardless of what I have selected in this list.
    Hope this helps!
PS: Retrieve database will give that error until instance is specified in my case.

  • Smpatch analyze: Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip:

I get the following error when I run smpatch analyze:
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: Connection reset
I was successfully able to register the system, but keep getting this error with smpatch analyze. I snooped the traffic and saw packets to & from getupdates1.sun.com on port 443, so there is not a firewall problem.
Did I miss a step in the installation?
    Thanks

Looks like the root cause (to me at least) is confusion between the contracted support server and the public updates server. They appear not to be the same...
Since late September all my Sol 8 "smpatch" clients were broken, giving me "Response code was 500" because the LPS / Update Connection Proxy was set to https://getupdates1.sun.com/ which is apparently the public site. ( https://getupdates.sun.com/ didn't work either.)
My Solaris 10 clients were working fine through the LPS, however - or so I thought.
When I just noticed that the patchpro.patch.source on Solaris 8 with 124270-01 is showing https://updateserver.sun.com/solaris/ as the default, I tried that as the LPS patch source URL, and now everything works again - for the first time in weeks.
Disclaimer: We are a support contract customer, so I don't know if this info applies to everyone. My LPS has been registered (has "entitlement") since I set it up in February, so it was a complete surprise that Solaris 8 smpatch clients started failing even after I put 124270-01 on the client and 121118-08 on the Sol 10 LPS.
    Hope this helps...

  • Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: Internal Server E

    Hello
I have installed an update connection proxy and I have registered it
    smpatch get
    patchpro.backout.directory - ""
    patchpro.baseline.directory - /var/sadm/spool
    patchpro.download.directory - /var/sadm/spool
    patchpro.install.types - rebootafter:reconfigafter:standard
    patchpro.patch.source - https://getupdates1.sun.com/
    patchpro.patchset - current
    patchpro.proxy.host - ""
    patchpro.proxy.passwd **** ****
    patchpro.proxy.port - 8080
    patchpro.proxy.user - ""
    patchsvr setup -l
    Patch source URL: file:/patchsvr
    Cache location: /export/home/proxycashe
I also did smpatch analyze > file
and I downloaded the patches (*.jar) and copied them to
    /patchsvr/Patches
But I don't really now from where to get the files: current.zip and detectors.jar
I searched for them on the server and I found :
    /var/sadm/spool/cache/Database/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2F%2FDatabase%2Fcurrent.zip
    /var/sadm/spool/cache/https%3A%2F%2Fgetupdates1.sun.com%2F%2Fdetectors.jar
and I copyed them in /patchsvr/Database and /patchsvr/Misc
On an update connection client I did:
    #smpatch set patchpro.patch.source=http://192.168.0.71:3816/solaris/
    #smpatch analyze
Failure: Cannot connect to retrieve Database/current.zip: Internal Server Error
    Can you please help me.
    Thanks.

On the proxy I cannot execute:
    # rm /var/sadm/spool/patchsvr/*current.zip
    # rm /var/sadm/spool/patchsvr/*detectors.jar
    because /var/sadm/spool/patchsvr/ is empty.
    # patchsvr setup -l
    Patch source URL: file:/patchsvr
    Cache location: /export/home/proxycashe
    On the client:
    I removed the current.zip and detectors.jar
    # smpatch get

  • Restore failure -cannot validate source -resource busy

After a successful creation of bootcamp volume with XP and MS Office I found 11GB too small a partition. I made an image of my OS and installed software, reformatted to a single volume, created a larger 32GB partition and attempted to restore the image to the Bootcamp volume. Same error each time "restore failure -cannot validate source -resource busy"
    Stuck - any ideas?

You used WinClone to backup and restore Windows?

    Hi @twonsy,
I see by your post that you are unable to scan, when running the Print and Scan Doctor, you got a error on the Twain.
I can help you with this.
I have provided some steps to setup Admin rights on a new user account, check the Services and to install the printer again.

  • Scan etc

How to enable scan to computer
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
In order to enable Scan to Computer, you'll first need to install the printer software (available at www.hp.com > Support > Download drivers)
Once the Sw is installed, click on the HP Printer Assistant and there should be a  "Manage Scan to Computer" option under the Scan tab.
Please click the “Kudos Thumbs up” on the left if this has helped you and “Accept as solution” if this has helped solved your problem.

  • Monitor RAC (nodeapps, scan, etc)

    Hi,
We have recently set up a 11g RAC environment but we could not find any way of monitoring the nodeapps, scan vips, crs in Grid Control 11g. We get notify if an instance or listener is down but if a CRS or VIP is down or relocated, is there a way of getting alert messages from Grid Control?
    Thanks.

Yes ... you can achieve that ..
First you need to configure the cluster using below link :

  • Dissapeared connection for control of scanning etc through PC

Suddenly I lost communication with the printer for "control" scanning, Inc-data a.s.o. For a couple of years I could choose type of scanning (pdf; picture;mail) from my PC, but something happened and now I couldn't control anything. HPDr-program could communicate and "adjust scanning". WIn 7 64 bits. I've try to download new drivers, tried to connect both Wireless and from USB. What's happened?

It is my pleasure erhal, I am happy to help!
Let's try a different approach. Please use the steps below to remove the driver from the Printer Server Properties and re-add it again.
In the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder. or units and printers in your case
    2. Choose ‘Print server properties’.
Win XP – With no printer selected, click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows Vista – With no printer selected, press ‘Alt’ then click ‘File’ then ‘Server Properties’.
Windows 7/8 and 8.1 – Select any printer in the ‘Devices and Printers’ folder and click ‘Print Server properties’ above.
    3. Click on the ‘Drivers’ tab at the top of ‘Print server properties’ window
    4. Choose the printer you want to uninstall and click ‘Remove’
    5. Choose 'Remove driver only'
    6. The next screen will give a warning, letting you know that deleting the driver package will remove it from the system. Click ‘Yes’ to say that you are sure you want to do this.
If documents are stuck in the print spooler, you may see an error, cancel any documents pending in the print queue, or try restarting the print spooler, then try to remove the driver from ‘Print server properties’ again. If it still won’t remove the package, restarting the computer and the printer should resolve this ‘in use’ error and allow the driver to be removed.
After the driver is removed, open Start > All Programs > HP folder > Printer folder > HP Setup and Software (or the printer icon).
The Setup and software screen will open and you can click on Connect a new printer.
Please let me know the outcome. If the issue persists we will work together to see this through. Thanks.
Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.

  • Crashing EVERY DAY even after restarts and virus scan etc.

Adobe Pro crashes at least 10 times a day and I get this message repeatedly. Adobe should really do a better job but I guess the company is fine with having a captive market of people who need to work with PDFs with limited options that are good for work needs. If you're going to provide a shoddy product, at least give me a free subscription for having to restart, lose, and spend hours more time working on projects because the program sucks.

Are you using the "Use Authentication" option in the communication channel? If yes, then ensure that the user provided is correct and is not locked. Also recheck the authentication certificate settings.

  • Post gong black strips with white type. System Failure: cpu=0;  etc. HELP

I happened to plug in a palm pilot dock unit to my keyboard while my machine was booting up and although it may have noting to do with it, I now have the grey screen with the system failure message. The first line ends with "Corrupt Stack" and it goes on with "unaligned frame address" etc.
I tried to boot from the Tiger install disk, but no luck and the same result. Booted and held the x key. Booted and held the c key. Nada.
    Is it dead?
    Steve

Weird...after closing down and rebooting with a Tiger install disk (which my drive wouldn't read), and holding down my mouse buttoms, it's back like nothing ever happened. I just cleaned up my permissions and will now look for some utilities to figure out what's up. I'm getting a new iMac in a couple of weeks, so hopefully Ole Bess will hold up until then.

  • Cannot save etc

I have posted about this before but got round it by an undesired method. This time two SMC re sets with switch off of bkp drives. Of course that may not be what pulled the trick. Last time not only the Text editors but also browsers could not be saved
I couldn't save in either Text edit or Neo Office. Got the spinning multi coloured wheel each time. I could use Force Quit but the pointer of the mouse had changed from an arrow to a typing cursor. I could not get the mouse to do an orderly shut down per the Apple Menu as none of the buttons would work and the pointer continued as a spinning multi coloured wheel.
I did wait quite a while for the spinner to go and the files to save but no. X not responding was the verdict of Force Quit and Acivity monitor.
As said I had to try SMC more than once. Until the last time I did not get past the grey screen. Am I correct that that is the firmware screen?
Has anyone any idea what this is all about. Seems not to be just particular applications. What logs if any can I look at to hopefully report to 'you' for diagnosis.
Are the persistent grey (firmware only?) screens connected to the failure to save or merely to the unconventional shut downs in a particular conjunction? I don't like it when I cannot get the OS to boot without three tries.
