Scan for Faces on Newly Imported Pictures?

Hi Everyone,
Sorry if this has been asked. I couldn't find an exact fit.
I ran through the initial scan successfully. Although there are some missed faces, it is still cool functionality.
My question: I just imported a bunch of new pictures. Is there a way or a trigger to scan the newly added images? Some of the images have multiple faces, some are new faces as well. I am hoping that Apple didn't just stop at indexing once and not indexing again....
Help...
Thanks!

Hi
I'm having exactly the same problem as this...initial scan was 75% successful, but when I import new photos, Faces does a scan but doesn't recognise any new faces. Also, when I manually tag faces in the newly imported photos, it's losing the information when I go back into iPhoto. I've provided feedback to Apple, but is anyone aware of a fix in the short term?

  • Re-scan for faces?

Has anybody found a way to re-scan for faces? I have a few that are bugging out and will not permit me to erase them from the suggested faces menu.

  • Can't select photo after scans for faces

I just bought a laptop with iphoto 09 on it; previously I used 08 (or earlier; can't remember). {Yes I know a new version '11 just came out. Given the number of problems reported maybe I'm not sad about the purchase-timing}.
My library is huge with 30K+ images; I keep it on an external HD. After opening the new iphoto it asked to tweak my library which I allowed. Upon first opening all images seem to be there and selectable, but after it scans for faces (takes hours), I can no longer select a photo, necessary in order to start identifying faces.
I tried closing iphoto and reopening - same thing; images selectable prior to running faces scan, then not.
I tried rebuilding the library. This lost all my keyword structure (I use keyword manager) and after the rebuild bombed failing to import all the images, I deleted the rebuilt library before testing whether it could select images.
My old library does seem as if it should be rebuilt, many images now appear blank as thumbnails though present when selected.
¿ Will rebuilding the library fix the selecting-face scanning problem?
¿ Is there a way to rebuild the library that will retain my keyword structure?
BTW, I deleted the partially rebuilt library via iphoto library manager...
    Thanks for any help.

Darn! It seems to say MS-DOS (FAT). I thought I had fixed all my HDs to be properly formatted for the Macintosh.
    Does this mean I'm SOL?
I could put a screen shot of my disk utility...
Or how about I just copy the entire iphoto library to my new giant-er HD and then reformat the EHD and copy it back ... is that necessary? And if so, how best to move the library. Do I need to use iphoto library manager or just slide the whole thing onto the internal HD?
    Thanks a million....

  • IPhoto won't scan for faces

Just upgraded to iPhoto 09. It successfully upgraded my library. I can manually add a face to a particular photo, but it hasn't scanned my library for other faces. How do I make it do that? Thanks!

I know I am probably just piling on at point but I am also having problems with the "faces" program not working. I have between 8-10k photographs on my machine and, since our brand new mac is the family computer, my wife was very excited about the facial recognition software as it would help in selecting photos for Christmas cards etc. Anyhow, I have gone through and identified between 100 -200 faces for each of my family members to "help" the program as it could not identify anyone from the 10 or so images I initially identified. Regardless of this fact, when I have it do a search for a particular face the "wheel" just spins and spins. I have let it search for images for -- currently 24 hours and counting -- and the program still does not identify any pictures beyond the ones I originally tagged. I bought an Apple to get away from the problems generally associated with a PC and this has been one of my first experiences. Is there anything I did wrong or is this just a program that is not ready for release?

  • Faces not identifying faces in newly imported photos.

since upgrading and the initial scan, iPhoto 09 has not recognized one face in hundreds of new photos. It just does not know when any face is in a new photo.
Is there a way to force it to scan these new photos?
BTW, We have 3 users sharing one iphoto library in the shared directory.

The problem here is that OS X works very hard to keep your data safe and secure from the other users. You're trying to beat what's built in to the system.
This method seems a little clunky at first, but works very well. Most importantly, it uses the System to do the job for you.
Create a new Account on your Mac, call it Media. Create an iPhoto Library there. (BTW: This will work for iTunes too.)
Enable Sharing on the Library:(Preferences -> Sharing), leave iPhoto running and use Fast User Switching to open the other accounts. In those accounts, enable 'Look For Shared Libraries'. The Library will appear in the other source pane.
This means that both users will be able to see the pics. If you want to use a pic then simply drag it from the shared Library to your own in the iPhoto Window. This means that each user can have their own edits.
If you want to add photos to the Library: Log into the Media account for that purpose. Added faces and places in this account will be available to all users too.
To make it all seamless: Set your Mac to log into the Media Account automatically. Set iPhoto to launch on log-in. Then switch to your own account using Fast User Switching.
Net result: a Library that's permanently available to all users but also protected. Each user can have their own versions of the pics if they want.
No partitioning, no permissions issues. Uses no extra disk space. What's not to like?

  • Newly imported pictures not appearing in iPhoto '08 Library

So, while I was importing a whole slew of photos today, iPhoto became unresponsive (I think because of two RAW images I inadvertantly left on the camera).  I had to force quit iPhoto and when I relaunched it, none of the photos imported show up in my library.  They are available if I browse "All Images," but if I try to drag and drop any of them into the iPhoto Library it says they're already there.
    Advice?

Never access photos that are managed by iPhoto in your All Images search. It's a good way to damage your Library.
Surefire fix: restore from back up.
    Other than that:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • How do I use new Photos to autoscan for faces like iPhoto did?

iPhoto used to have a feature to auto scan for faces. On Photos, I seem to have to go through photos one by one, or identify "unidentified" faces 1 by 1, then it will auto detect just a few more, which is HUGELY inefficient with 1000s of photos.(a lot already have "known faces" attached to them) . Looking it up in Photos Help is no help!  It says:
Rescan a photo for a missing face
Select one or more photos with undetected faces.
Choose Photos > Detect Missing Faces. In the Source list, an icon next to Faces spins as iPhoto scans the photos again. During this scan, iPhoto uses less stringent criteria than in the original scan. As a result, you may see more “false positives”—photos in which an object has been identified as a possible face.
To see if iPhoto found additional faces, select one photo at a time and click the Info button in the toolbar.
    Question:
there is no Photos in source list only ALL PHOTOS (FACES,LAST IMPORT, ETC.), nor in dropdown, so what do I do? I never get to the the spinning icon....
Also how do I find "undetected Faces" do I really have to go photo by photo?  Help me!!!!

  • Photoshop Elements 3 newly imported file superimposing

I am having a problem with newly imported pictures (tagged correctly in a new tag), showing up superimposed on top of another picture in a second tag. I can't figure out how this is happening. Please help!

Thanks for your reply, Colin. Let me explain more clearly and maybe you can help. Let's say I have imported Image #1 into Photoshop and tagged it with "Birthdays". A few days later, I import Image #2 and put it under the tag "Trips." If I go to the "Birthdays" tag and click on it, so that only those pictures show up in the organizer, for no apparent reason, Image #2 will show up OVER Image #1,with the tag "Birthdays". When scrolling through the pictures in single-picture view, I get to what WAS Image #1 and I can see for about 1/8 of a second Image #1, and then Image #2 appears, with ONLY the tag "Birthdays." In fact, if the original caption for Image #1 was, for example, "1965," that caption is still there (but now under Image #2!) When I try to recover Image #1, it is no longer there (even in "My Pictures" folder where Adobe stores the images.) I know it is still "underneath" Image #2, because, in instances where I have rotated Image #2 from a landscape, to a portrait orientation, I can clearly see the outer "sides" of Image #1. The end result looks like a "picture-in-a-picture."
So, my problem is really two-fold. Image #2 is showing up in a different place (although, in many cases, it is ALSO in the correct tag.) And, Image #1 is no longer retrievable (even when I attempt to go through Adobe's "reconnecting" process.)

  • Faces information not importing

I purchased Aperture from the Ap Store and installed it on my three computers. On each I had a very large iPhoto collection with hundreds of faces identified. When I imported the iPhoto libraries using the Import iPhoto Library menu item, none of them seems to have retained any of the faces information - yet importing an iPhoto library is supposed to retain the Faces information. Is there some special trick? My iPhoto is the latest version.

Under Preferences, Advanced, if you unchecked "Copy items to the iPhoto Library" then Faces completely doesn't work. You can not detect faces, you can't add faces - nada. You can't do anything face relate
Not in my experience. To test, I created a Referneced Library, imported a couple of hundred pics and they were all scanned for Faces in a couple of seconds.

  • Scan another time for faces

During scanning my iphoto crash (i don't know the reason). Can I scan another time my photos for faces? How?
    Bye

To force Faces to rescan your Library:
Note You will lose any work you’ve already done with Faces. This is to return to the very beginning.
    Quit iPhoto.
Go to your Pictures Folder (or where ever you have your Library) and find the iPhoto Library there.
Right Click on it, and from the resulting menu select ‘Show Package Contents’. A Finder window will open and the Library will be exposed.
    Find the following files:
    face_blob.db
    face.db
and move them to the trash.
    Make no other changes.

  • IPhoto 09 does not search imported 08 library for faces

I have noticed that iPhoto does not search my converted 08 library for faces. It has no problem with new photos that I have added though. Is anyone else experiencing this?

I think my library is just corrupted for not being used for a while and being moved from one computer to another. As a test I copied some photos to my desktop that I knew were in my old library in order to test whether any faces would be found. I saw that some old distorted photos that I remember deleting appeared in the even folder with the imported pictures. I'll try using iPhoto Library Manger.
My problem seems to be with the format of my library (hopefully) and not faces.

  • How do I create sub folders for imported pictures in iPad albums?

I have imported some photos to my iPad for a presentation. The pictures were in different folder under the main folder. After I import the main folder the sub folders are deleted and now all the picture are in one folder. How can I keep the original main folder with sub folders when importing pictures in iPad photo?

Not within the Photos app, but there are other photo management apps in the App Store which allow you to create albums within albums e.g. Photo Manager Pro - that app lets you copy photos to/from the Photos app and copy photos via iTunes : Photo Manager Pro help pages.

Yesterday I found a similar post about the same issue with a new Canon camera. They fixed the problem by copying the files from the camera to a folder on the computer. Then they loaded the files into AP3 from the folder. Great news; it worked!!

  • When I try to import pictures of my daughter, what gets imported is about 50 pictures of world flags, then masks.  I can't import any pictures now.  I am on MacBook Pro.  I called Applecare and honestly got 'gee I don't know' for an answer.

I can't import pictures into iPhoto.  (f I can right click and there is a choice to put in iPhoto that works fine) .  No matter what happens, even when I download them first, all that imports is a mass of pictures of flags and masks, and they are the only things that are imported, no matter what picture I try to import into my librarly.  Can anyone help me with this?  I live in a small down 5 hours from an apple store so I can't just take it in and get somene to look at it.

Elaine.  What are you trying to import from?  Are you inserting a camera memory card in the slot on the side of your mac? Are you connecting your camera to the mac through a USB cable? It sounds like you can see your pictures, where do you see them, on the memory card that you open on your desktop, or are you using software that came with your camera?
