SCAN from Windows Clients

Version: 11.2
Platform ===> Solaris
Does SCAN IP (set in DHCP rather than /etc/hosts file) work only for clients installed in Unix?
I had set up my SCAN ip in /etc/hosts file(not DHCP).
So, this SCAN name works only within nodes. Not from other Unix machines and definetly not from windows machines.

Hi VitaminD,
If you do not have a DNS server avaliable at installation time OUI will not let you continue with the installation until you have provided a suitable SCAN resolution.
However, in order to overcome the installation requirement without setting up a DNS-based SCAN resolution, you can use a hosts-file based workaround.
In this case, you would use a typical hosts-file entry to resolve the SCAN to only 1 IP address and one IP address only.
It is not possible to simulate the round-robin resolution that the DNS server does using a local host file.
The host file look-up the OS performs will only return the first IP address that matches the name. Neither will you be able to do so in one entry (one line in the hosts-file).
Thus, you will create only 1 SCAN for the cluster
This workaround might also be used when performing an upgrade from former (pre-Oracle Database 11g Release 2) releases. However, it is strongly recommended to enable the SCAN configuration on “DNS Server” or “The Grid Naming Service (GNS)” above shortly after the upgrade or the initial installation.
Does SCAN IP (set in DHCP rather than /etc/hosts file) work only for clients installed in Unix?
Configure SCAN on hosts file is only a workaround should not be used in a production environment. For the SCAN function properly you must have configured the DNS or GNS

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 - Can't scan from Windows

We recently purchased and installed an HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 to be used as a networked all-in-one solution for a number of offices. I have been able to get it set up on our network and have installed the appropriate drivers on the requested Windows 7 x64 machines, and network printing works perfectly. However, it seems that despite the fancy scanning features available from the all-in-one itself (scan to email, scan to a network folder, etc.), I can't find any way to do an old-fashioned scan from Windows.
I have installed the full software solution available on the driver download page for the device, and while Windows lists the device as a "Multi Function Printer; Scanner" it does not recognize it as an actual scanner. The built-in Windows Fax and Scan simply reports that no scanners are installed. The software installation did not include the HP Solution Center (which I am used to seeing from my experience with various other HP all-in-one devices) or any equivalent for direct scanning. The driver download page for the device does not include any separate scanning drivers, so I can't be certain if they were included with the full installation or exist at all. Some of our staff also use Adobe Acrobat to scan, and even that fails to recognize the MFP as a scanner.
We'll eventually be setting up the device to scan directly to a network folder, but we need a fallback while IT takes their time getting it set up; I can't imagine that the simplest option is not available at all. I must be missing something here, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: To add, I also ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Interestingly, it reports the device as a printer and only offers to "Fix Printing" without any sort of resolution for my scanning problem.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.

  • HP OfficeJet 6500 E709a: cannot scan from Windows 8.1; uninstall crashes at step 8 of 10

When I try to scan from Windows 8.1, launched from the HP Solution Center, it fails before giving me a preview, saying:
    Scanning error
    4,[(2,22,80040001),(3,22,0)]
When I run the HP Print and Scan Doctor and select "Fix Scan", it fails on the first check, saying it failed to find the driver. The text field that gets uploaded to HP includes the string "hpbxpsrender.dll: Not Found".
I tried uninstalling, using uninstall.bat in the "OJ_AIO_6500_E709_EntScruber_140" (HP OfficeJet Enterprise 14.0), which I downloaded from HP.com. It gets to step 8 of 10 ("removing unnecessary components..."); then it hangs and Windows 8.1 says "HP Installer Uninstaller has stopped working" and kills it.
I have tried running uninstaller in regular mode, in regular mode with my anti-virus / firewall (Kaspersky) paused (disabled), and in Safe Mode with Networking. Same result every time.
I have run the Installer without error. I can view the HP OJ status web page in my browser (http://192.168.1.5) from both computers.
I don't remember if scanning has ever worked on this computer. Scanning works on another computer (Windows XP). Both computers are wired (Ethernet) to the same network switch as the HP OJ.

  • ORA-12571 error while creating packages from Windows clients

    Hello,
We are facing the ORA-12571 error while creating / replacing packages from Windows Clients connected to a 8.1.7.2.0 db on a Solaris server.
    However, there are
    1. no errors in connecting and creating transactions from a Sql session
    2. no errors in creating / replacing unwrapped/wrapped small (few lines) packages
    3. no errors in connecting from a Unix session (remote telnet sessions inclusive).
This happens only when creating wrapped/unwrapped packages, source code of which is greater than 500 kb approx.
Can somebody help me resolve this issue. Any Help would be greatly appreciated.
    Regards.
    Lakshmanan, K

Update: I had unintentionally left my custom tablespace in READONLY state after an earlier experiment with transportable tablespaces. After putting the tablespace back into READ WRITE mode and creating a new template, I was successfully able to create a new db from the template.
I'm still a little curious why this procedure wouldn't work properly with a READONLY tablespace, however.

    Hi,
I dont know if this solve your problem.
The SCAN IP and VIP IP work together.
The connection of clients to the database is not established by SCAN IP but by VIP IP.
When a SCAN Listener (SCAN VIP) receives a connection request, the SCAN Listener will check for the least loaded instance providing the requested service.
It will then re-direct the connection request to the local listener on the node where the least loaded instance is running. Subsequently, the client will be given the address of the local listener.
The local listener In this context, the LOCAL_LISTENER parameter must be considered. The LOCAL_LISTENER parameter should be set to the node-VIP. If you need fully qualified domain names, ensure that LOCAL_LISTENER is set to the fully qualified domain name (e.g. node-VIP.example.com).will finally create the connection to the database instance.

  • No access on podcast share from Windows clients

    Hello together!
I have the following scenatio at home:
    * 1 Server with Windows 2008 R2 with logged in user and iTunes running (everything is shared)
    * 1 Laptop with Windows 7 x64 & iTunes
    * 1 Desktop with Windows 7 x86 & iTunes
    * 1 Macbook with Mac OS X Leopard & iTunes
With this constellation I want to have access to my iTunes library located on the server from all other computer. With the MacBook this funktions without any problem to access everything (podcasts too).
On both Windows computer the directory pocasts is invisible. I can find the podcast files in the main directory but they are grey and the the playback does not start.
Is here anyone who had already the same problem and perhaps solved it? Thank you in advance for your replies.
P.S. Generally I can play the files by changing the kind of media to movie.

    Oleg,
I had the exact same problem here - we have two XSERVE machines here running OSX 10.5.7 server, and we're accessing a samba share on these servers from Windows XP SP3 clients.
    When moving a file, I noticed a message in /var/log/samba/log.smbd :
    [2009/06/15 12:45:30, 0, pid=50709] /SourceCache/samba/samba-187.8/samba/source/modules/vfsdarwin_acls.c:fsp_setacl(126)
darwinacl: failed to set ACL on <filename>: Invalid argument
    !#acl 1
I tried to look this up on google, but had no success.
Searching the file /etc/smb.conf for "acl" showed the following line:
    vfs objects = darwinacl,darwin_streams
(Un)commenting this line (inserting a ";" in front of the first character) and restarting s,b solved the problem here - I'm now able to move files without having the permissions set to 0000, and the error in log.smbd doesn't appear any more.

It is pointless, and just adds to the confusion, to name your listener anything other than the default name of LISTENER

Client requests to 'localhost' (or its ip address of 127.0.0.1) never leave the client machine.  Hence, any listener configured for that address will never receive a request from any other machine.

should i reconfigure /etc/hosts.conf file to add ip 192.168.0.200..? 'cause there's only one ip "127.0.0.1" in /etc/hosts.conf
thanks for the assistance until now ivan

  • RMAN from windows client to a Oracle db on Linux

    hi all
we have a architecture where in Oracle 10g R2 RAC is installed on SuSe Linux Itanium systems. Its a two node RAC. this is production
We have another server which is in another network (cannot connect to production network) this is development. This dev server is x86_64 Suse Linux
RMAN is used for backup on production and a catalog database also exists there.
We need to take a backup of the production and restore it on the dev environment. a normal RMAN backup involving the catalog database doesnt work as catalog database isnt accessible from the remote network.
we access the two servers by changing the network cable on our desktops ...
    my query is:
can i take a RMAN backup of the production italicswithout using the catalog italics on my desktop from a windows oracle client? And then restore from the same windows machine into the database in the development environment.?
does RMAN support the cross platform backup and restore?

Yes it does, check RMAN Cross-Platform Transportable Databases and Tablespaces, but it appears that your PROD and DEV are both Linux boxes, so you shouldn't have a problem doing a normal backup/restore.

  • Network Path Error from Windows Clients

    Hi everyone,
I have a problem that's been puzzling me. I used to be able to connect to my Mac servers as well as Mac clients with Windows sharing enabled from PCs at my work. I can't recall exactly when it stopped working, but it has. Whenever I try connecting to a Mac from a Windows PC, all I get is the error "The network path \\"server"\"share" could not be found". Here's the scenario:
    - Tried connecting to Tiger Server (10.4.2), Tiger client (10.4.4) and Panther Server (10.3.9)
    - Neither Windows 2000 SP4 or XP SP2 work (I know about the issues with XP SP2)
    - Systems are on the same IP subnet
    - All have the same Windows workgroup name
    - I've stopped and restarted Windows services, and Windows sharing on Tiger client
    - Share points on both servers are configured for SMB
    - Tried IP and host name
    - Works fine connecting from a Mac using "smb://server" in the Connect To dialog
    - I'm able to connect via FTP from the PC
    Any ideas are appreciated!
    iMacG5, iMac G4, iBook G3 900mhz, 1st gen iPod, iPod Nano   Mac OS X (10.4.4)

Have you tried connecting to the share by IP address? try start, run,
    \\xxx.xxx.x.xx\
The problem I am having is similar. 10.4.3 server windows shares work for a while, then it stops broadcasting out of the blue. We can still make IP connects to the server, but cannot using the smb name.
Gonna call support today and see what I can find out on my issue. If I find some resolve I will try to post the solution if I get time.

  • Connect from Windows Client to Oracle 10g for Windows 64-bit

Have an environment currently running Oracle 10g 32-bit on Windows 2000 Standard, and need to migrate to Oracle 10g 64-bit for Windows. Users connect to the 10g 32-bit database using the Oracle Client for Windows 10g loaded on remote PC's. If we migrate to the Oracle 10g 64-bit on Windows 2003 Server Enteprise Edition 64-bit, what type of client do I have to install on the PC's to access the Oracle 10g 64-bit database?
Any ehlp/insight will be greatly appreciated.
    Eduardo in Michigan

In addition to install 32-bit Oracle client to 32-bit Windows OS, you need to know whether your application is compiled to run in 32-bit or 64-bit.
This is critical because 32-bit application can not see 64-bit Oracle ODBC and OLE DB provider.
For example, MS SQL Server 2005 uses 32-bit DTS, and SSIS, which needs 32-bit Oracle client
If you don't know, get a copy of both 32-bit and 64-bit Oracle client, and try one-by-one to know for sure. Please be aware that if regsvr32.exe in the Windows has been overwritten by older software installation, it won't register some DLL properly, and Oracle ODBC, or OLE DB won't show up as well

  • Moving .csv file from windows(client) to linux server

    thanks

    Hi,
As already mentioned above, you have 2 major options:
1.samba (lots of docs on the net)
    2. ftp (even more docs on the net)
If you decide to use ftp, then here's a starting point:
-install ftp server on your Win machine-
-you can use lftp , which has the ability to read a set of commands from a file
    For instance:
    [kido@kido ~]$ pwd
    /home/kido
    [kido@kido ~]$ ls
cacti_backup.tar.gz                    Desktop     ftp       j2re-1_4_1_02-solaris-sparc.sh  out   test
    cacti_data_query_ucdnet_device_io.xml  diskio.tar  help.txt  net-snmp_devio.xml              perl
    [kido@kido ~]$ cd ftp
    [kido@kido ftp]$ ls
    ftpscript
    [kido@kido ftp]$ cat ftpscript
    open localhost -u kido,123kido$
    ls
    get help.txt
    bye
    [kido@kido ftp]$ lftp -f ftpscript
    drwxrwxrwx    2 501      501          4096 Feb 25  2009 Desktop
    -rw-r--r--    1 501      501      13137873 Mar 30 19:54 cacti_backup.tar.gz
    -rw-rw-r--    1 500      500         34216 Feb 03  2007 cacti_data_query_ucdnet_device_io.xml
    -rw-r--r--    1 501      501          4950 Apr 07 08:46 diskio.tar
    drwxrwxr-x    2 501      501          4096 Sep 08 15:53 ftp
    -rw-rw-r--    1 501      501           144 Jul 30 19:27 help.txt
    -rw-r--r--    1 501      501      23023830 May 27 14:17 j2re-1_4_1_02-solaris-sparc.sh
    -rw-rw-r--    1 500      500          2568 Aug 18  2005 net-snmp_devio.xml
    -rw-rw-r--    1 501      501          8093 Aug 05 15:21 out
    drwxrwxr-x    2 501      501          4096 Jun 16 15:38 perl
    drwxrwxr-x    2 501      501          4096 Sep 02 13:10 test
    [kido@kido ftp]$ ls
    ftpscript  help.txt
[kido@kido ftp]$ You can modify ftpscript and put any commands you need. Then you can run "lftp -f ftpscript" from cron (for instance). For more details: man lftp.

  • Can't Print or Scan from your OfficeJet Pro after Upgrading from your Win 8 to 8.1?

Are you having problems when attempting to print or scan from Windows 8.1 after printing/scanning successfully prior to upgrading to 8.1?  Uninstall/Re-install.  With this, I might suggest going to your product page on HP.com (sample link posted below) and then hover over "TROUBLESHOOTING" in the top menu and choose "HOW TO" from the drop-down menu.  Click on "Install / Uninstall" link to take you to a document that will walk through the uninstall process.  When that is complete, then click the "DRIVERS" menu on the same product page.  Select the correct Microsoft Windows 8.1 version (either 32 or 64 bit) and then download and install the latest driver.  Good Luck!
