Scan has a wide black stripe on the side

When I scan it has a wide black stripe on the side. Full page height and 3.6 inches wide. This shows up as a print copy or when I use the Image Capture utility.
Have tried unplugging the power and plugging again.

Hello eldercr, and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
I see you are having copy and scan issues.  I would like to help.
I would recommend performing a power reset.  Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet, then wait 60 seconds. After 60 seconds, plug the printer back in. Ensure you plug the printer directly to a wall outlet. Make sure to bypass any sort of surge protector or power bar.
I would also suggest following the steps in this document on Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans.
Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Regza LCD HDTV 52XF550U has wide black stripes on the right side

Hi, my 2008 REGZA LCD 52XF550U has wide black stripes on the right side.  I think the problem started within 24 months from my purchase.  And the stripes are getting wider.
I have tried to reset the setup, power off and on, all to no avail.  See attached picture.
If someone can shed light on this problem and its (preferably permanent) fix and approx. cost, it will be greatly appreciated.  I could simply chug this Toshiba LCD and buy another non-Toshiba HDTV, but I think that would be wasteful if it can be fixed.

I also have the same problem.  I have had the TV for about 4 years; started right after third year.  I have not been able to fix it either....Time to buy a new TV, but defintely not a Toshiba!

I hope this isn't a dumb question, but is it coming from the scanner? We have to watch two things when scanning on our Canon 5020s.
#1 Make sure the sidebars are as tight as possible, including making sure the stack of paper is very clean and straight and tight.
#2 There is a setting in our scanner called Margin. It corrects for things like manufacture defect. If we leave that setting alone, we get a small black edge. We have it set to -2 to decrease the scanning area. This fixes that problem.

How to delete wide black strips each side of my screen

Check that you have the correct screen resolution set: System Preferences>Displays>Display tab and makes sure you have 'Best for display' selected. (This is the route used for Mavericks 10.9.1 - I'm guessing 10.7 will be similar).

  • Ipad 2 front camera has a blurry black line down the middle

    Evening,
My Ipad 2 front camera has a blurry black line down the middle, tried resetting but still there. back camera is fine.
    Any ideas ???

    Hello AndyPharris,
It sounds like you're seeing an unexpected black line when you take photos with your rear camera. I would next backup the iPad to your iTunes library:

And restore it from your backup with this article as a new device to test the issue:
Use iTunes to restore your iOS device to factory settings

If it works, restore from your backup and verify it still works. If the issue persists when you restore as new, I would seek service for your device with this page:

  • Why am I getting black bars on the sides of my widescreen assets?

I am importing video, shot and edited 1920x1080p23.976, into Encore.  The goal is to burn a DVD from this asset.  I've tried exporting the project (from Premiere CS5.5) in every format on the list, and no matter what when I import it into Encore it show up in the monitor with narrow black bars on the sides.  The assets are correctly being formatted for 16:9 (non-square pixels), but the video is just not filling the screen.  This seems like it should be a simple thing, why can't I get this?
    Thanks,
    Steve

I'm going crazy trying to get the footage to actually crop. I have sequences imported from my Premiere project vis Dynamic Link. If I go into my quality presets inside Encore CS5 I can setup a top and bottom crop as in Ann's screenshot and then switch to output. It looks perfect. But when I save that as a new preset and apply it to  my clips, the cropping does not apply.
I have tried over and over, new presets, double checking over and over and while the preset is applied, the crop does not kick in within Encore monitor or within the DVD preview. pillarboxing (black bars) are still present.
I don't understand why Encore has a cropping feature and then COMPLETELY IGNORES the cropping feature. Am I missing something.
So far all I can figure is to setup a new sequence in Premiere for every Chapter that is set to DV 24p. Then drop in the main sequence which is 1080p and resize it in the motion settings to 45.6% so that it fills a DV frame. At that point I can import that sequence to Encore and it looks fine.
Is this the best Encore can do? I would really rather link up the full 1080 sequences because otherwise I'll have to rebuild the entire thing if I want to make a BluRay.
Does anyone have any other suggestions or know how to get cropping to work on Encore CS5 (Mac).

  • Using footage from my iPhone 4, how can I remove the black bars on the sides of my picture? Or change the color to white...

My footage is vertical and there are two black bars on the side filling in the rest of the picture. I want to imbed this into PowerPoint without the black bars on the side. Any suggestions on how I can remove them or at least change the color to white? I changed the background color in View > Background > White, but it was only for editing purposes and didn't keep the color after rendering.

To change the background to white, in FCE, place the video on track V2 and place a color matte generator on track V1.  The default color for the color matte is grey so you'll need to change it to white using the color picker.

  • What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for? How do I get to it?

I have a MacBook Pro (2011 Model & 13") and I was wondering . . . What is this black dot on the side of my MacBook Pro? What is it for and how do I get to it?
P.S.  I feel stupid asking this question  . . ..  . because I know those who answer will know exactly about it and what to do with it . .

To be honest when I first got it, I thought I broke that hole . . . see I assumed it was a button to eject the CD slot, and I managed to either push it in deep enough, or smash it off. . .. .  I once got a tooth pick and fiddled around in there in atempt to find something. . ..

  • I dont know how to get rid of the black bars on the sides of my videos. The original clips dont have them but when i import them to fcp it puts them there

The original clips dont have them but when i import them to fcp it puts black bars on the sides of my video and i cant get rid of them

Here's my final (and simple diagnosis) You have 4 x 3 footage that your are trying to screen at 16:9. This won't work.
    Artistically, you have three options:
1.) Stay with the "black bars." What some of us call "Bat Wings," in the biz.
2.) Do what some editors do and create a large "fuzzy" background to extend the edges...
3.) Or transform / crop the image. (Or just use the "fill" option in the "Spatial Transform" section of the inspector
But... You WILL lose some of the image

  • My iPad 1st gen has a large grey stripe in the middle of the screen. Any help would be appreciated

It was not dropped and has no other damage and works fine EXCEPT i cannot view the middle part of the screen.
From other posts and searching the web this seems to be a "KNOWN" 1st Gen issue and I am ot the only one.
Anyone had any luck with getting this solved ??
My solution was I just bought a new iPad 4th Gen because I did not want to be without my favorite device but am discouraged by the fact Apple is NOT commenting on this issue or offering a fix
I am hoping that this 4th Gen did not come with a 2 year expiration date - for almost $800 bucks it should last until I decide - not until it is completely disabled by a manufacturer defect as in what happened with my 1st Gen
I still expect my 1st Gen to work and need any suggestions in dealing with the issue as (OF COURSE) the device is no longer under warranty

    $100 you can buy a replacement screen => http://www.ifixit.com/iPad-Parts/iPad-Wi-Fi-Front-Panel-Assembly/IF180-000?utm_s ource=ifixit_guide&utm_medium=guide_intro&utm_content=required_items&utm_term=ip ad_wi-fi
Then use the guide to swap out the screen => http://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Installing+iPad+Wi-Fi+Front+Panel+Assembly/4174/1
I had a similar issue last year when I bought my new Samsung HDTV. There was a strip of discoloration going down the middle of the screen about 3 inches wide. Samsung replaced the screen as there was nothing that could be done to fix it.
I imagine this means the crystals in the screen are somehow damaged. It may not be your fault, they could have just gone bad from bad manufacturing or whatever. There is software for desktop computers that runs through series of tests for attempting to correct issues with an LCD screen, but it would be difficult to run this software on an iPad screen. I doubt there is an app that does anything similar, but you can check the app store or the Cydia market if jailbroken.
    Good luck

ANY IDEA WAT I MUST DO?

    Hi Renier,
I agree with xaver. You dont have many options for such hardware related issues and I also would recommend contacting an authorized service provider. The guys can check your notebook and repair it for free during warranty time.
Here we can only discuss about Toshiba notebook and share our experience but for such hardware problems you need professional help.
If you have bought the notebook in Europe search for an ASP here:

By the way: Why you write everything in capital letters?

  • I've connected my external monitor (LG) to my new Macbook Pro 15" laptop, using the adaptor for VGA...the display now has a large black bar along the left side.  No adjustment on the monitor will fix it, no "options" on System Prefs either...any ideas?

I've just purchased a new Macbook Pro, and connected it ot my external monitor (24" LG HD) using an Apple VGA adaptor.  The only resolution that looks good is the 1920 x 1080, but the image does not entirely fill the screen.  There is a large black gap on the left side of the screen now.  It worked fine with my "last generation" Macbook Pro...no adjustment on the monitor will help, and cannot find any System Setting in displays such as "options" or widescreen setting.  I've gone to the LG site, but no "Mac" related tech support issues come up...no forum here seems to deal with this particular issue either...any ideas?

I have the same thing but with a 23 inch HP, worked fine with my MBP 13 from 2009 but the 2011 2.4 i5 does the exact same thing as yours!
Very confused and hoping that some one else can help.

  • Toolbar installed that has caused a blank strip across the top of my facebook page which i cannot click on

I accidentally installed a toolbar i do not want. i think i successfully uninstalled it, but after it was installed, when i go into the facebook app, there is a strip across the top of the facebook page on which i cannot click on to . this strip includes my spot on which i click on to my wall or homepage in facebook. if i move the page down far enough, i can click on other things, but never can i get far enough down to click on these tabs. this only happens in firefox, which i prefer wayyy over google chrome for gaming. do i need to delete firefox and reinstall? please help!

Recently, the Yahoo Toolbar and the Babylon extension have been reported to cause that problem. They seem to overlap invisibly over the top of the web page display. If you have either or both, uninstall or disable them/it, or see if an update is available that solves the problem.

  • Aspect ratio: 4:3 material being exported with black bars (on the sides!)

    Hi all
I'm fairly new to using FinalCut Express: previously I've used other non-linear video editors on Windows.
I'm having a bit of a weird problem: I've got a sequence which was shot entirely in 4:3 (PAL). However, when I try to export that to a QuickTime movie it appears squashed from either side — black bars appear at the sides of the frame and everyone looks very tall and thin. The frame itself is still 4:3 but everything is being squashed to fit in the bars.
I've fiddled with as many settings as are immediately obvious to me to see if I can rectify this, but so far no banana: the sequence is about 90 minutes long and takes about 30 minutes to render each time when exporting.
Has anyone got any ideas what to do about this? I've been trying to do some research into how FCP/FCE handle different aspect ratios, and it seems to be a very complicated topic. In fact, in the same project I've got a sequence which contains almost entirely 16:9 anamorphic material. Ideally I'd like this to be output in a 16:9 frame with the few 4:3 clips appearing with bars on the side. However, it's only being output as 4:3 where the 4:3 clips appear full-frame and the 16:9 clips have bars at top and bottom...
    Hope someone can help!
    Mac Pro: 3GHz, 6GB RAM, X1900XT, BT, AirPort   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Tom, thanks for the reply.
Everything looks absolutely fine when played back in FCE; it's only when exporting to QuickTime that my problems start. The point is that this 4:3 sequence isn't being output into a 16:9 frame as a pillarbox: what's actually happening is that it's being put into a 4:3 frame with bars, with the result that the content is in fact being squeezed (it looks wrong).
How can you modify the aspect-ratio settings for a given sequence? I've looked through all the obvious sequence properties settings but have never found anything.
I'll just reiterate — it plays back fine within the viewer; only when output does it all go awry.
