Scan Options Window

Hi,
I have the DeskJet 3050a and when I scan something it automatically scans as a JPEG. As I wish to  edit my scans I have downloaded and installed the  software for OCR ( I have followed the instructions posted on the  HP support forum, installing the compatible software for the   HP OJ Pro 8500A A910n printer). Having installed this software, however, I cannot find a scan window that allows me to choose the format  options for the scan I am about to do-: that is, I do not have  a window that allows me to now choose the RTF rather than JPEG. Do you know where I can find this?
(the instructions given on the Support forum for this step are: 4) Now open HP Deskjet 3050 scan window. Select "Everyday Scan" and from the drop down menu for "File Type" select "RTF" or "Searchable PDF"
(My problem is that I cannot find the HP DeskJet 3050 scan window- and scans continually automatically to take the JPEG format)
Thanks
This question was solved.
View Solution.

First, you must have the HP Deskjet Full Feature Software and Drivers installed.  The scan software included with the HP Deskjet 3050 does NOT come with OCR capabilities.  However, the HP OfficeJet Pro 8500A A910n printer does come with OCR capabilities.  Thus, the installation of the software and drivers for the OfficeJet included the installation of OCR package which can be used by the HP Scan software for both the HP Deskjet 3050 and the HP OfficeJet product.
The HP Scan software can be accessed in multiple ways:
Method #1 - From Windows 7 Desktop:  Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Deskjet 3050 ... -> HP Scan
Method #2 - From Windows 7 Desktop:  Start -> All Programs -> HP -> HP Deskjet 3050 ... -> HP Deskjet 3050 ...
Method #3 - From Windws 7 Desktop:  find the HP Deskjet 3050 desktop icon; if present, run it (double-click).
Method #2 and #3 will will launch the Desktop Client software; Under the Scan section, choose 'Scan a document of photo' to lauch the HP Scan software.
Method #4:  Go to C:\Program Files (x86)\HP\HP Deskjet 3050\bin; run HP Scan.exe (double-click).  (Note:  The C: drive is the default installation drive; modify accordingly if you installed the software to a non-default drive.)
Within the HP Scan software you should see a number of named Scan Shortcuts on the left panel of the dialog.  Select the Scan Shortcut named "Everyday Scan", then modify the file type settings to RTF in the right panel of the dialog.  You can also create your own Scan Shortcut and configure the scan settings for that Scan Shortcut to your liking, including file type.

    Hi @ahpaige,
I see by your post that you are able to print but not scan on Windows 8.1. I can help you with this.
Did you download and install the Full Feature Software?
HP Officejet J3680 All-in-One Printer Drivers.
The classic Windows driver is probably installed, which provides basic functionality.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.

  • HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 - Can't scan from Windows

We recently purchased and installed an HP LaserJet Enterprise 500 Color MFP M575 to be used as a networked all-in-one solution for a number of offices. I have been able to get it set up on our network and have installed the appropriate drivers on the requested Windows 7 x64 machines, and network printing works perfectly. However, it seems that despite the fancy scanning features available from the all-in-one itself (scan to email, scan to a network folder, etc.), I can't find any way to do an old-fashioned scan from Windows.
I have installed the full software solution available on the driver download page for the device, and while Windows lists the device as a "Multi Function Printer; Scanner" it does not recognize it as an actual scanner. The built-in Windows Fax and Scan simply reports that no scanners are installed. The software installation did not include the HP Solution Center (which I am used to seeing from my experience with various other HP all-in-one devices) or any equivalent for direct scanning. The driver download page for the device does not include any separate scanning drivers, so I can't be certain if they were included with the full installation or exist at all. Some of our staff also use Adobe Acrobat to scan, and even that fails to recognize the MFP as a scanner.
We'll eventually be setting up the device to scan directly to a network folder, but we need a fallback while IT takes their time getting it set up; I can't imagine that the simplest option is not available at all. I must be missing something here, any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: To add, I also ran the HP Print and Scan Doctor. Interestingly, it reports the device as a printer and only offers to "Fix Printing" without any sort of resolution for my scanning problem.

There is no change to this problem after 6 months since the last post. Put simply, and as stated in the previous posts, there is no way to scan a document and receive the image on your PC. If you are working with graphics for any length of time or want to create an image for inclusion as an image in a document or web page using this piece of equipment will not allow you to do so.
Great shame as every other function works well - it cannot be beyond the wit of HP to include a Windows application that enables you to scan an image, receive it in the software you are using at the time (e.g. Outlook, Word, Photoshop...) and use it in your work.
HP Printers several years older than this £1000+ Enterprise printer were able to do this simple job and have done so for a great many years. Just being able to use Microsoft's Fax and Scan would be start.

  • Can't open 'Text Messages' options window

    Hi,
I'm trying to modify my text message options. In the message list window I press the Blacberry key, scroll down and select 'options' - the options page pops up for about a second, and then I'm taken back to message list.
I'm able to open email and other options windows without an issue - this only happens for text message options. Any ideas?
(I've just tried software update and have been told I have the latest)

Hi and Welcome to the Forums!
Anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure.

  • Scanning using windows 8.1

we have purchased two new computers with Windows 8.1 as the operating system. Now when I use my old printer scanner HP 6210 all in one to scan it won't scan multiple documents to one file.

Hello jar1949, and welcome to the HP Forums.
I see you are looking into scanning options.  Due to the age of this printer, there is no HP software to run on Windows 8.1.  You can utilize the Windows basic print and scan drivers, but there will be functionality limitations.
I am including a document on using your printer with the basic Windows drivers:

  • 6500 scan option in solution center reacts extremely slow

Problem 1.It usually takes 5-8 mins for the scan window to show up after I press "scan to file" in solution center. This 6500 is extremely slow. I have had other hp all-in-one before and scanning has never been a problem.  I don't know how I would solve this. So I started searching a scan option shortcut. No luck yet. Anyone knows where I can find the shortcut? Problem 2.Since it's so slow to scan from the solution center, I tried to do it from the panel. However, when I pressed the scan button, it showed "scan menu: select computer". Then I pressed "OK", it showed "no scan options".I have searched online and it seems like a popular problem. I have tried all the methods found online, but nothing worked.  Thank you. I hope someone could help me on this. It's really frustrating.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that you are having trouble scanning with your HP Officejet 6500, on Windows 7. I am happy to look into this scanning issue for you!  To make sure I know the exact printer that you have, what is your printer's Product/Model Number? (ie: HP Officejet 6500 e710a, etc.) To find your printer's Product/Model Number follow instructions in this link. Finding Your HP Product Model Number. To verify the printer's hardware is functional, are you able to make copies with the printer?  In the meantime, I would recommend to try our HP Print and Scan Doctor, and let me know what happens!  Hope to hear from you soon!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

  • HP Printer scan option doesn't show up on my MacbookPro

I have an HP printer and I can't use the scan option because it doesn't show up on my computer.  ANd when I try it from the printer it gives me an error window.

On its web site for Lion compatible Scanner drivers, HP offers the following workaround since they have not yet produced HP based Scan driver software for your older model (I have the same problem):
People who need to SCAN & PRINT without a compatible driver from their manufacturer can use Apple's very basic "PRINT & SCAN" utility in System Preferences:
Click the Apple menu ( ), and then click System Preferences .
    Click Print & Scan ( ).
Click Scan , and then click Open Scanner .
Click Show Details . The details of the scan display, including options to modify scan settings such as output type.Figure 2: Example of the Show Details scanning screen
Change any settings as necessary, and then click Scan .

  • Photosmart 5520 - Scan Option disappears from Mac OS X 10.9 to 10.10 update

I have been searching this problem for the last 2 hours. I have already installed, deleted, reinstalled drivers from this website and Apples site.
Under printers and scanners in my System Preferences, I can choose and easily print from our HP 5520, but the scan option button has now disappeared from my 10.9 to 10.10 update. My wife has the exact same computer as me and we are both connected to the exact same 5520 printer, but she is still on 10.9 (scan option is available and works) and I am on 10.10 (scan option is gone and HP Scan doesnt work either).
    Solutions please!
    Solved...

    Hello @caking1s,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I understand since doing the Mac update from 10.9 to 10.10 now you are unable to scan with your HP Photosmart 5520.  Please go ahead and follow the steps listed below:
    Scrub/ Uninstall
    • Open the Applications folder > HP or Hewlett Packard folder > HP Uninstaller
    • Click continue, click on one of the printers in the list.
    • * Only do this step if you do not have any other HP Printers. Hold down Control, Option and Command, While holding the three buttons down,
    • Click uninstall.
    Reset Printing System
    1. Click the Apple icon (   ), and then click System Preferences.
    2. In the Hardware section, click Print & Fax/Scan. The Print & Fax/Scan  dialog box opens.
    3. Right-click (or  Ctrl  +click) in the left panel, and then click Reset printing system…
    4. Click OK to confirm the reset.
    5. Type the correct Name and Password.
    6. Click OK to reset the printing system. The Print & Fax dialog box shows no printer selected
Note: This will remove all printers in the print and Fax/Scan, any printer removed can be re-added later by clicking the plus (+) symbol..
    Repair Disk Permissions
1.On the Dock, click Applications, and then click Utilities.
    2.Double-click Disk Utility.
3.Highlight your hard drive/partition on the left (by default this is "Macintosh HD").
4.Click the Repair Disk Permissions button at the bottom of the window.
5.Once the repair is complete, restart the computer.
Restart the printer. Now you can download and install the printer software and install it. Click on the link below to begin the download and follow the on screen instructions:
HP Photosmart Full Feature Software and Drivers
I hope this helps, please let me know the outcome!

  • Scanning with Windows 8

I have a HP Officejet Pro 8500 and loved scanning photographs to my Dell computer.
I recently purchased a new Dell that has the Win 8 OS (the old one had XP). I am able to print from the new computer to the HP printer. However, the scan function is not available under the Pictures folder in Win 8. I tried to download the printer driver for Win 8 for my printer but it still did not resolve the problem.

  • Scan options on printer screen

I have Windows 7 with a HP Photosmart c6180 AiO. I use Microsoft Office 2003 and used to get a scan menu on my printer screen. For some reason, it disappeared and I want to scan documents to a RTF. How do I get my my menu back? I did updates, and reinstalled the drivers and software. I'm lost. Please help!

    Hello grandpakingfish,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
I see that you are having an issue with the scan option no longer being available on the printers display screen.
Please make sure that you have the printer power cable connected directly to a wall outlet and not a power bar/strip. Here is a document that uses a LaserJet printer as an example but it is meant for HP products in general. Please click on the following link that explains the Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • PE9 scanning options change after installed new printer

Operating Windows 7 64bit, Epson Perfection 1650 scanner.   I have PE9, and after I installed a new Epson printer, my scanning options changed, I no longer have the Twain option, and the scanning window that appears is the one that is for the new printer.  I have the option to choose my old Epson 1650 scanner, but it still has the new scanner window, which I don't like, it consistantly scans the entire flatbed even though I only have a small photo on it, and it will not save my settings nor allow me to scan multiple images.  Any suggestions for me.

  • Officejet 4500 wireless no scanning options

    Hi,
it is not possible to scan: no scan option available
    How to fix?

    HI @chiroxex
I can certainly help you with the scanning troubles you are experiencing.
What operating system, and version do you have? Mac or Windows?
If you have a Windows operating system, running the Print and Scan Doctor might help. The HP Print and Scan Doctor is a free utility (tool) that helps to quickly resolve common printing, scanning and connectivity issues including but not limited to:
    Connectivity:
USB: Verifies that the USB connection from your computer to the HP product is working correctly.
Network: Verifies that the network connection between your computer and your network is working correctly.
Device Status Test: Checks for device errors such as out of paper, paper jams, carriage stalls, and paper feed issues, and then provides instructions for fixing the error.
Driver Check: Checks for missing or corrupt driver files.
Device Manager: Checks for problems in Device Manager that would prevent printing.
Device Online: Checks if the product has been paused or set to offline, and then sets the status back to online if necessary.
Print Queue: Checks for and clears pending print jobs in the print queue (a log of print jobs waiting to print).
Port Match: Checks the port settings for the HP product.
Device Conflicts: Checks for conflicts with other drivers, such as other printer brands.
Ink Issues: Checks the cartridges and ink levels for issues that affect print quality.
Print Settings: Checks and adjusts the print quality settings.
Test Print: Prints a test page for print quality evaluation, and provides options for cleaning and aligning the printhead if necessary.
Scan Tests: Checks the scan mechanism, drivers, and registry entries.
Source:Try the HP Print and Scan Doctor for Windows
Click here to download and run the Print and Scan Doctor >>>>> www.hp.com/go/tools
If that does not resolve the issue, post back and let me know if there are any symbols other than green check marks and what they are next to of course. The wrench is not always easy to spot as the wrench and the check mart are in the green circle.
If you see only green check marks (), the tool did not find any problems.
If you see green wrenches (), the utility identified an issue and corrected it automatically.
If you see yellow exclamation points (), the test failed and required user action, but the step was skipped.
If you see a red X (), follow the on-screen instructions to resolve the issue.
I look forward to hearing back from you.
