Scan Resolution with HP 4630?

I have several photos that I want to scan. The HP Printer Assistant seems to limit the scan resolution to 600 dpi. I'd like to get the maximum optical resolution of the scanner (1200 dpi). Is that possible?

Greetings, @MRHJ
Welcome to the forums!
I have a screenshot from my software, could you check your software to see if you have the same option to change the resolution? Let me know if this helps you and if not, please include a screen shot of what you are seeing in your software.

  • Scan resolution of PDF file from HP Officejet 4630

Hi, I'm running Mac OS9.1 and a HP Officejet 4630, and the HP Scan App. Appears to scan correctly, image in the App is good but when I save from the Scan app the PDF image is approx 4 times the size of the A4 page, ie when I open the PDF file only the top left quarter of the scanned page is visible and the text is enlarged and stretched slightly horizontally. I have tried a number of different scan resolutions and color depth options without any success

    Robintonqld welcome to the forums!
I saw your post about the scanning issue you are having with your Officejet 4630 on Mavericks. I have some ideas that might help!
Mac OS X: How to reset the printing system
    Repair disk permissions
    Restart the Mac
Re-add the printer (not the AirPrint driver)
    Test scan
Let me know how that works!

What format are they? Tiif? Jpeg? You can compress them with a lot of apps - including Preivew and just about any graphics editor out there. I'm not sure that 45mb would crash iPhoto thogh, are yo sure that's the cause? I know that some folks have mentioned pixel dimensions causing issues, as can color profiles.

  • Best scan resolution to start with?

What is the recommended resolution of a scanned photo, to get the optimum results from Photoshop's editing (using PSE 3.0 on a Mac)?
My scanner software seems to default to 150 for photos, although I can adjust it higher (when I remember to do that).
Should I be starting at 300 dpi? That is usually the recommended resolution for getting the best prints out of iPhoto.
    Thanks in advance.

Thank you for the prompt reply. I just sent in a 5" x 7" portrait to a developer after having scanned it and worked it up a bit in PSE 3. THEN I remembered (too late) that it was scanned at 150. Both the original and the new request are 5x7, so I will be interested in those results. Between your advice and the results of my lame test I'll likely be bumping the scan resolution next time.

  • HP scan incompatible with Mac OS 10.9 (Mavericks)?

A number of people seem to be having scan problems after upgrading to OS X Mavericks.  Me too.
Working with LaserJet Pro 300 color MFP M375 nw.
I want to use HP Scan from my iMac, connected to the LaserJet, to scan from that printer/scanner to my iMac (to thedesktop), as I've done a thousand times.
When I try, the appearance in the HP Scan window is all as usual.  But when I "send to folder," the .jpeg (or .pdf or .tif) that arrives on the desktop is (1) distorted and (2) partial.
NOTE: If I use the 'General Purpose' setting, no distortion - but with that setting I can't get 300 ppi, which is what I want.
I can also get a *sort of* result with the 3D setting.
However, the 'Documents with text' setting - the one I have always used - gives the same distored/chopped result no matter what variations I introduce.
There do not seem to be any software upgrades from Apple.
I can't find anything on the HP site for downloads to deal with the Mavericks OS.
Is something in the works from HP?  How will we know about it?
    Thanks.

    Hi Everyone,
There have been numerous reports of an HP Scan incompatibility on Mavericks.  Please be assured that we are looking into this issue and hope to have a resolution soon.
At this time here is what we've observed:
    * On many Macs (not all), images scanned in Black & White or Grayscale will not save properly.  The preview looks fine, but the output will be cropped and distorted.
    * This issue is new for Mavericks.  Previous OS versions are not impacted.
Here are some known workarounds that may help you until this is properly resolved:
    * Use Image Capture to scan.  Image Capture can be found in the Applications folder.  This scanning application does not appear to be affected by the file saving issues.
    * Use the HP Scan Print dialog to save the output to PDF using one of the PDF workflow options.
    * Use the "General Purpose" scanning preset.  This preset scans in color and so output is not affected.
    * Change the settings for the "Documents with Text" preset to scan in full color.   You can also create a new preset based on the "Documents with Text" set for color if you plan to use these settings regularly.  Note that if you are not planning to process the documents for text extraction (OCR) then you can lower the scan resolution to 200 ppi to keep the file sizes more manageable since color scans can be much larger than grayscale or black & white.
I will try to provide more details as they emerge.  Thanks for everyone who has shared observations about their experience and configuration as this continues to be very helpful in tracking down root cause for this issue.

  • Poor image quality when scanning coins with officejet pro 8600 plus

I recently upgraded my printer from an HP 2210 to and HP officejet pro 8600 plus. image quality on coin scans is terrible.
I have tried scanning both with the HP software and with windows 7 fax and scan software
I have saved images as BMP, JPG, PNG, and TIFF
I have used resolutions from 300 dpi to 1200 DPI
All give me similar unacceptable results.
Images are better when scanned flat on the scanner than when in slabbed holders, and from this I am guessing that the plastic is somehow interfering wiht the scan. Either that, or there is a very shallow depth of field so that even moving the coin a few mm away from the glass moves it out of focus. But even a raw coin placed directly on the glass has significantly worse image quality than the old 2100.
The first image is  a coin scanned with the old 2100. The second has been scanned in a similar slab by the  8600

    Hi terry_renee,
Welcome to the HP Forums! I am happy to help you with this scanning issue! I did a test with an HP Officejet 8600, at 1200 dpi, and no plastic covering. Just the quarter on the glass, and we cropped it to the quarter. This is the result.
I have a few questions for you:
What Operating System are you using for scanning? Windows or Mac? What version?
What scanning software are you using?
Are you scanning from the computer, or the printer's control panel?
Hope to hear back from you, and have a great day!

  • Variable scan quality with HP Envy 4501

I see my scan quality is variable on different days. Sometimes the same scan comes across granier than other days. I then try restarting unplugging reinstalling printer etc. Works sometimes, sometimes does not
    Any clue what's going on?
See these 2 examples. You see a certain graininess in the second image

    Hi @sidpri,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you are getting variable scan quality with your HP Envy 4501. I am happy to help!
I would suggest, to make sure the printer's power cable is plugged directly into the wall outlet, and not a surge protector, Issues when Connected to an Uninterruptible Power Supply/Power Strip/Surge Protector. This applies to Inkjet printers as well.
Also, to make sure the firmware is up-to-date. Getting Printer Updates for HP Deskjet Ink Advantage 3540, 4640, HP ENVY 4500, and HP Officejet 4630....
Another option is to go through this guide, Unexpected Scan Output Using HP Scan Application for HP Multifunction Printers When Using OS X v10.9.... (This guide will work with Mac OS X 10.10 as well.)
Hope this helps, and thank you for posting!

  • HP Officejet 8600 Pro - how to change scan resolution presets at the printer

I have an HP Officejet 8600 Pro and wish to scan to email from the printer and wish to change the default resolution setting.   I would like to change the default scan resolution so I dont have to remember to change it every time I scan.
If I change it with the HP Windows Printer Assistant software it only seems to change the resolution for this time and only from the computer not at the printer.
Is it possible to change the scan resolution settings at the printer? I cant find detail in the manual or on the printer console.

    bvlusa,
Open the Icon labeled Officjet Pro 8600 on your desktop, and then click on Scan a Document or Photo. When the Scan application window opens you can change the Resolution from the drop down menu.
    I hope this helps.

  • How to increase scan resolution above 300 dpi on Officejet Pro 8620 e-AIO?

Hi everyone, I wonder if anybody can help me with this, as I haven't found any info in the product support options ...
I've just checked the technical specs for my relatively new printer (bought about 3 weeks ago), and on HP's product page, it says that the scan resolution of said model should be up to a max. of 1200x1200 dpi.
However, in the scan window, there's no selection above 300 dpi possible anywhere. I've tried all kinds of different scenarios, eg. scan colour photo to jpeg/pdf, colour doc to jpeg/pdf, but in any of the selected options, the highest I can go is 300 dpi. File size is not an issue, this is about quality of the scanned document, and at the moment, I'm not happy with the results I'm getting at 300 dpi. I've played with additional options, such as Brightness/Contrast, but that's not giving me the desired results either. And besides, it's about prinicple - if it states a higher resolution, where is it?
I'm attaching a screenshot, if that's of any help. Shouldn't I see more dpi options in the drop-down menu, ie. 600 dpi, 1200 dpi?
I'll be really grateful for any insight you might have on this issue! Many thanks in advance.
    Connie

  • Scanning size with HP 2570

I've been having a problem scanning documents with my HP 2570 all-in-one printer-scanner as far as the size goes.
The window that gives the size I want it to scan in as says it's 100 per cent, yet it scans in almost 3 times bigger. When printing what I scanned in, if I set the print size to 36 percent it will print the original size.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing the problem??
    Thanks,
    Barry

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
I don't know if this will fix the problem, but one of the first things you can do is to take out the old software and install a fresh copy and see if that takes care of it.  Sometimes this is all that is needed.
    Out with the Old:
If you are using a USB cable, be sure to disconnect the cable before starting this procedure.
Control Panel > set icon view > Programs and Features >
Scroll down, find the Printer program > Right-Click on the program > Uninstall
Repeat these steps for each occurrence of your printer's name until none remain in the list.
Restart / Reboot the computer and log in
    In with the New:
Install Full Feature Software – Printer
There are more Troubleshooting tips in your printer's Support pages that may provide some additional help, too.

  • Scanning Problems with an HP OfficeJet Pro 8500

I have an iMac running the latest version of Snow Leopard. I have had the HARDEST time, since purchasing my iMac in Dec 2010, scanning documents with my HP OfficeJet Pro 8500 printer. What happens is usually one of two things: 1) Only half of the page fills the scan window, or; 2) The entire document fills the scan window BUT the SCAN button is greyed out so that it cannot be selected!
Yes, I have done the whole delete the current printer drivers, get the drivers through Software Update, reset the printing, etc. None of that has worked (well, on occasion it works for a while). I am not using the drivers that came with the HP 8500; I'm told that you should use the drivers from Apple Software Update.
I have discussed this with Apple Support. They say I need to purchase  Apple Protection Care for them to address this. This is weird, considering that this appears to be a software problem with software supplied by Apple!
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks,

Hi,A phone cable connection to a landline is required for faxing. Generally, a wireless connection only refer to the connection with a computer for printing and scanning, it do not refer to a fax setup. Regardless, the specific device does not support any wireless connectivity but only a wired network or a USB. Regards,Shlomi

  • Changing screen resolution with a button

    Hi,
I would like to ask if there is a way for an interface to change the screen resolution of the computer? I am wanting to build an interface that loads an interactive camera that works with processing however I am needing it to be at the resolution 800*900 as the webcam screen is too small on a full 1680x1050 resolution.
Is there a way for the flash application to change the screen resolution with a button click? Are  there any alternatives to this?
    Thank you
    Jess

It is to display a portfolio at my design school for assessment, they will accomodate any necessary things that i may need for assessment viewing so it is very important to me.
Do you know what programs will work with this? What program would i have to install?
I only need to do this for my assessment so it is almost a desperate search for something that would work.

  • Change scan resolution from HP Scan App iMac

I use the HP SCAN app to scan from my Photosmart.  I like it because it lets me crop to constrained size.  However, it seems to scan only at 200 DPI.  I want a higher scan resolution.  I know how to change it through System Preferences, but HP SCAN does not use those settings. How to I adjust the scan resolution from WITHIN HP SCAN application?

OK, from the HP Scan software click the Scan button. From there click the Down arrow () or the Show Details button to view and change any scan settings, including the scan resolution.
