Scan to Computer using Multidocument feeder

Tried a scan to computer using the document feeder on my brand new Officejet Pro 6830. Paper did not go in - instead it scanned the blank glass! Does scan to computer not work using multi document feeder?

Welcome to the HP Community Forum.
The procedure is supposed to work; the process does depend on a several criteria which are outlined in the User Guide.  Presumably, once these conditions are met, ADF Scan to computer will work as expected.

I just purchased 6830  to use with my imac with Yosemite.  I am able to scan to email but I am not able to scan to computer.  I have installed the latest driver .  I followed directions to access HP utility and there was no way to get to scan preferences.  Any ideas how to scan to computer.  I keep getting message to open up the utility which does not get may anywhere.

    Hi @pfgoodman1,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand that you can scan to email but cannot scan to computer using your HP Officejet 6830 and OS Yosemite. I am sorry to hear this but I am happy to help!
First, I would make sure that the full feature software and driver is installed and not just the basic software.
Then I would recommend the following guides:
Scan From the Control Panel (Including Scan to Email, to a PDF, and to a Memory Device) for HP Offic.... (Select Scanning a photo (.jpeg) or document (.pdf) to the computer.)
A 'No Computer Found' Message Displays for HP Officejet 6810 and HP Officejet Pro 6830 e-All-in-One ....
    Hope this helps!

  • Scan to computer using HP Officejet Pro 8500 produces empty pdf

    Hi,
Since upgrading Windows on my computer from 8 to 8.1, the scan to computer function does not work properly. It produces a pdf file that is 0kb and when I try to open the file it says it is not a supported file or the file is damaged. The scan to USB works fine, and the scan to computer still works fine with other computers on the network that are using earlier versions of Windows.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, run the HP install wizard, run the HP diagnostic utility and the HP doctor. The HP doctor says that everything is working fine.
    What can I try next?
    Thanks,
    Beth

    Welcome to the forums Beth
Thank you for posting in the community. I will certainly do my best to help you with the scanning issue you are running into after upgrading to Windows 8.1. I would like you to try a few things.
Could you please run the HP Print and Scan Doctor again and report back to me with any errors it may show or if it shows the software is not installed. (If you can recall the tool showing if the software was installed or not, disregard running the tool again).
I would also like for you to try scanning by using Microsoft Paint to see if the scan will work that way.
There is a video on this post that will show you how to scan through Paint if you need assistance: Scanning with Paint in Windows 8
Try scanning by using the Solution Center from your desktop and let me know if you see any errors as well.
Hope to hear back from you!
    Enjoy your Thursday

  • Can't scan to Computer using MFPM425

Just bought a new MFP M425.  There is no feature to "Scan to PC" , rather 1) scan to USB, 2) scan to Network Folder or 3) Scan to Email.  I want to be able to use the scanner feature to scan directly to my PC and to a pdf format.  There have been some previous posts regarding using "Windows Fax and Scan" but that does have a .pdf option.  Other posts talk about using the "HP Scan software from your PC"    Is the "HP Scan software"  a separate download?  Any other options?  Thanks for your help.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi,
Scanning to a computer from teh front panel is ot supported on many Laserjet devices such as the M425.
If the printer is connected to the network you may set a shared network folder and scan PDF from the front panel, that an be set as following:
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/doc/public/display?sp4ts.oid=5096243&docId=emr_na-c03463750&docLocale...
If you prefer to use the HP Scan software install the full feature software on your PC, scanning can be initiated from the HP Scan software on your PC, not from the front panel of the printer.
The full feature software can be downloaded below:
    http://h20566.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5096245&swItemId=ma_104479_4&swEnvOid=406...
Then the HP Scan software will be available under Start > Programs > HP > the printer folder.

  • Officejet Pro 8600 scan to computer with Mac OS 10.6.8

I have reinstalled the software, selecting HP Recommended Software.  I have restarted the computer and done a software update.  I can print from my computer to the printer.  But I cannot "scan to computer" using the touchpad on the front of the printer.  When I select it, the message says "No Computer Found."   When I open the HP utility on the computer, under scan settings there is NO "scan to computer" option to select, even though the printer says I need to select it.
I can scan a document using by opening the settings on the computer, but I cannot figure out how to tell it to use the document feeder.  So I figured I would try it from the printer itself.  But I cannot get that to work.

Try scanning FROM your Mac. Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom. Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • HP7520 Still can't scan to computer (Mac)

I've seen NUMEROUS posts from folks with the same problem:
The "Scan to Computer" function on the printer doesn't work, even though all other printer functions between the computer and printer work fine.  Printing works fine.  Scanning from the computer works fine.
The printer's display shows the computer name when Scan-to-Computer is selected.  But when the scan is initiated, I get a message on the computer:
"Scan failed - an error occured while communicating with the scanner"
and a message on the printer:
"No Connection - no computer is connected..."
But of course the computer IS connected!
On the Mac, the HP Utility's "Enable Scan to Computer" button is grayed out, with the explanation that the HP software required for Scan to Computer could not be located.  Nothing I do let's me enable it.
Numerous posts on this forum, for this and other HP AIO printers, say to uninstall all the HP printer software and drivers, repair disk permission, reinstall the Full Feature printer software, and reinstall the printer drivers.
Did all that multiple times.  Same problem.
Scan-to-computer used to work at one time and I used it routinely.  Not sure exactly when it stopped, but may have been after upgrading to OS10.9.
Has anyone actually solved this problem?  All the posts I've seen on this problem seem to end without resolution.

    Hello jonnie_s,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand when scanning from the Photosmart 7520, you receive a message "Scan failed - an error occurred while communicating with the scanner". I will do my best to assist you!
How is this printer connected? Wireless or USB? I realize you did state that your operating system is 10.9, but are you running the upgraded version such as 10.9.1? Please let me know on this post.
Have you performed all the Apple updates on your computer? If not, could you please follow this Apple document here. When you reinstalled this HP software, did you use the CD or the HP website?
I would make sure you have completed every step from this HP document on A 'No Computer Detected' or 'Connection Error' Message Displays during Scanning.
I will be looking forward to hearing from you. Have a great night!

  • Mac not listed in Scan to Computer options

I want to be able to scan documents directly from the printer panel to my Mac.  When I select Scan-->to Computer, using the panel, it only lists my PC computer.  How do I get the All-in-One to see my Mac for this.  I use a wireless connection, and I am able to wirelessly print from my Mac to the All-in-One just fine.  I can scan to e-mail from the printer panel, and that works fine.
    Thank you!

  • ADF function using "scan to computer" function

Trying to use the ADF to scan a document to my computer wirelessly. ADF doesn't feed. Is the ADF useable for multi-page scanning wirelessly? Can't seem to find anything addressing this in the user guide.

    Hi,
The default scan workflow configured to scan documents as Black and White. Make sure to change the scan settings to scan documents with color:
    1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.
    2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".
    3. Click the Scan Tasks tab.
    4. Select the affected shortcut and click on Edit... (or just double-click the shortcut).
    5. In the section of Scan from an HP Device click on the blue triangle or the Show Details button to enlarge the menu.
    6. From the enlarged menu now open the drop-down menu next to Mode
    7. Now select the Color option and then click on OK to save the changes. The next scanned document using this workflow will appear in color.

  • Scanning doesn't use the document feeder

When using the scan to computer option on the printer / scanner it doesn't take the document from the feeder, instead scanning a blank image from the flatbed part. If I use the software on the PC to initiate a scan it does feed the document in, as it does when using the Copy option on the device itself.

I am having the exact same problem. I will add that scanning from the document feeder to my Mac Book works fine. The problem with the document feeder is only whenn atttempting to use the AiO software on my iPad.

  • How do you scan multiple pages to my computer using a C5580 all-in-one printer

how do you scan multiple pages to my computer using an HP Photosmart C5580 all-in-one printer?

    Hi @carolpaige
I would be happy to help you scan multiple pages. What operating system, and version do you have? Mac or Windows?
You will need to save your files as PDF, and when you choose the PDF format you will see an option to have all scanned pages saved as a single file. Knowing your operating system will help me to provide you with more detailed instructions.

    Hi @thostetter,
    Welcome to the HP Forum.
I understand you are having an issue scanning from your officejet 8600 to your new windows 8.1 computer. I would like to help you with this.
On your windows 8.1 computer, goto your desk top.
Here you should see an icon that looks like your printer named HP Officejet Pro 8600.
    Click this icon.
It will open the printer assistant.
Here you should see an option to Manage Scan to Computer.
Select this option and enable scan to computer.
If this does not work or I have misunderstood the issue, please let me know.
Also, how is your printer communicating with the computer? wireless, LAN, or USB?
    Hope this helped

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus losing wireless connectivity, cannot scan to computer

In our office, we have roughly 4 computers using the HP Officeject Pro 8600 Plus, all of which are connected wirelessly. The printer was previously connected to the internet wirelessly with no problems. A couple of days ago however our computers started randomly disconnecting. The printing function would work for a bit, then disconnect. I found the only solution to this problem was to hit the button on our wireless router that resends the wireless signal out for connectivity.
We hardwired the printer with an ethernet cable and I myself didn't see any further problems regarding connectivity but a couple of the other computers had spotty connections.  Again, each time this can be remedied by hitting the button on the wireless router.
Today  however we had an additional problem, after trying to scan a document through the automatic document feeder, the printer said it was jammed (although it wasnt). When we went to rescan, the scan to computer function was no longer working. I can scan by hitting the scan button on my HP Printer Assitant interface, and I can also scan to email, but cannot scan to computer.
I have gone through several forums and haven't been able to find a solution. I personally use Windows 8, but other people in our office are using older versions of Windows. We've tried unplugging, restarting, hardwiring, resetting wireless settings, uninstalling, etc. etc. Before a few days ago the pritner was working fine for a number of months.
If anyone has any ideas they would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi rtaw,

  • Can't use the feeder of a Officejet 6500a plus

I just bought a new iMac (os x 10.9) and with the use of the os x 10.8 driver I could install my Officejet 6500A Plus. Now I want to use the feeder to scan some documents and I want to send it to my iMac but the following notification is shown: "you can start a scan from your computer or scan to your computer from the printer. make sure the HP printer software is installed. Windows only - Network connection in the hp printer software, enable the activate scan to computer function."
Can someone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

    Hello Tim_Aelbrecht,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums! I see you are using the new Mavericks 10.9 OS with your HP Officejet 6500A Plus, you would like to scan from the front panel, but you are not given the option. With the newer 10.9 OS, there were no full featrue software and drivers made, this is why you are getting the error message. To get a better understanding, continue below.
Seeing as there are no full feature software and drivers you cannot scan from the printer control panel without a Full Feature driver, you can still scan without the Full Feature HP software installed on your computer by using a basic set of scanning drivers. These drivers enable scanning from Apple Preview or Apple Image Capture. You can also scan from the Print & Scan window. Find out how here: How to Scan: OS X v10.9
    I hope this helps!
