Scan to encrypted USB Phaser 3635

Our policy requires that any sensitive or proprietary information that is stored on a USB thumb drive must be password protected. With that said, can you scan to encrypted USB thumb drive? I have only tried so far on our Phaser 3635's with must recent software update. We also use WorkCentre 7835 with 1.5 connectkey as well as Colorqube 8700, 8900, and 9300's with 1.5 connectkey. Any guidance would be appreciated. I have no been able to find anything in any of the manuals or on the forum that touches on this. If its out there please provide me the link. Thanks!

Password protected and Passwords are seperate. If the USB key is encrypted, it should work just fine as it would only encrypt the file once it was placed on the drive, the Printer itself has no part in that. Quickest test is to plug in an Encrypted USB stick and verify the printer sees it as a drive, if it does you are good to go. Now if the file in question is to be password protected as well, that is not an option for scanning unless it is being sent to email. (This applies to Connectkey devices, I don't know about the Phaser)

  • Samsung SCN-4826FN Scanning error via USB cable

When scanning from the Multifunction Printer(MFP) user interface selecting Scan to PC the scanner is not able to properly connect with the computer. An error message comes up on the screen and says there was a scanning error. I can scan to a USB memory stick via the front panel USB interface and then plug that into the Mac and use the PDF as usual but this adds an extra step!
The MFP works fine with my older MacBook Pro even with the upgrade to Snow Leopard OS.
I've reinstalled the Samsung printer/scanner software several times and am at my wits end.
I've put an email in to Samsung describing the problem, but I have a suspicion that the Latest Snow Leopard OS-X 10.6.5 is to blame.
    any suggestions would be helpful

  • [Solved] ^has_journal error for encrypted USB installation

    Hi,
I am trying to install Arch on an encrypted USB stick, but i am facing a challenge in the very initial stages.
Its been advised that if installing arch on a USB stick, one should disable journaling. But the command to format to ext4 without journaling fails. Here is what i am doing
    # cryptsetup -y -v luksFormat /dev/sda2
    # cryptsetup open /dev/sda2 cryptroot
    # mkfs.ext4 -O ^has_journal /dev/sda2
the mkfs.ext4 command above gives the following error:
/dev/sda2 is apparently in use by the system; will not make a filesystem here
Instead, when i use the slightly modified version of the original command specified in https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Dm … _with_LUKS, i get the following error:
    mkfs -t ext4 -O ^has_journal /dev/mapper/cryptroot
    Invalid filesystem option set: install.txt
Can you advise whats going wrong with the mkfs.ext4 command?

  • RDS 2012 Encrypted USB drives

So we are about a week into our RDS 2012 VDI roll out. We have made 100% thin clients, in fact we have even replaced the shell. unencrypted flash drives work just fine. They mount up and redirect. However encrypted flash drives are giving us problems.
It works if we drop back into the thin client and deencrypt but since we replaced the shell our end users can not do this. What options do i have here?

    Hi,
Firstly please explain what you want to perform. Additionally are you using BitLocker Drive Encryption on your server? Have you used RemoteFX feature on your server?
“Drive redirection does not provide low-level access to the redirected drive. As such, the following are not supported in the remote session: Managing BitLocker-encrypted USB storage “(Quoted from article).
Meanwhile take a look at below article.

  • Can an encrypted USB drive be used with the Airport Extreme?

I would like to keep an encrypted USB drive hooked up to my Airport Extreme (A1354) so that I can use it for a hand archive of documents I might need to reference on the road or conveniently within my home, mainly because it would be handier than having to plug and unplug a USB device into whatever computer I'm using, and would allow my wife to do the same with her computer. I know most internet providers provide a service like this, but I figured why not just do this with my Airport Extreme?
I've read posts from people who have taken encrypted USB volumes generated from their MacBook Pro, and plug that USB device into the Airport Extreme. The Airport recognized the device exists, but it is you can't actually use it as an encrypted volume. This seems like a flaw on the part of Apple if you can't do this, as this device is a much more expensive solution that what most wireless routers provide.
Has anybody figured this one out?

    Doubtful it's going to work.
Does it see the same disk if it's formatted just Journaled (ie, not encrypted)?
The tehnical article isn't entirely clear . . . it just says Mac OS Extended:  AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule: USB storage device supported formats and protocols
It was last modified June 14, 2011, a couple of weeks before Lion was released with the ability to encrypt drives.
Note that ExFAT is supported on Macs effective with 10.6.5, but not Airport Extremes; there's no reason to think encryption is any different.

  • New Airport Extreme (802.11ac) Support for Encrypted USB Disk

The old Time Capsule and Airport Extreme apparently did not support a filevault2 encrypted USB disk for storing files like an NAS (not talking about a time machine backup).  Does anyone know whether the newly released Airport or Time Capsule now supports the encrypted disk?

I do not think that USB encrypted disks are supported...and would be surprised if they were....but will know for sure late tomorrow.
Will update at that time if no one else has answered before that time.
The fact that Apple still has a USB 2.0 port on the new AirPort products might be a clue as well.

  • Encrypted USB Flash Drive with Lion OS X questions

Like many of us, we don't want our USB flash drives lost with our valuable data on them.  So I've used the encryption function in Lion OS X in Disk Utility to make an encrypted flash drive.  This has some limitations as I read but what I want to know is can I use this usb drive on a DIFFERENT computer that also has OS X Lion?  I don't have another mac w/ lion to test it on.
This is important to me because I've got a laptop and God forbid, but if it was stolen or destroyed, will I be able to access my USB drive with important data on it by plugging it into another mac computer w/ lion?
Also, as a follow up question - I haven't yet made an encrypted DMG file (tho I plan to soon) and place that on a usb drive for multiple platform use, but how functional is this?  Can you add and copy files within the DMG file?  I thought a dmg file, once created, couldn't change in size, MB's, etc.
Basically, I'd like to use the most user friendly type of way of securing my files and data on USB flash drives.  I have tried TrueCrypt and have it installed but I just don't prefer using it.  I like the simplicity of the former approach, though it has it's limitations.

    How about any computer instead?
Hardware based encryption is superior to software encryption which can be hacked or not available if your needs change.
This will work with any computer, and has a nice keychain so you can attach to something like your wrist or retractable key cable.
    http://www.amazon.com/IronKey-Secure-Hardware-Encrypted-Flash-D20402A/dp/B000RXY V5U
There are also hardware based encypted external hard drives with their own keys and password keypads, also work with any computer if your needs are larger then a USB can handle.

  • How to Encrypt USB on Mac?

Can you please tell me how to encrypt a USB? I ultumately want to encrypt my sd chip for my android, but thought that I should test it out on a USB first.

on a empty usb stick - once connected to your Macbook - open disk utility.
select your usb - then select which format encryption you want.  do realize however, doing it this way, your usb will only work on any macbooks running lion or mountian lion.
if that's not what you want - then download a file encryption software that is compatible to what you want to use it for.

  • [Solved] Persistent Device Naming for Full Disk Encryption & USB Boot

Using the following boot option does not work while using FDE (dm-crypt plain) due to the filesystem being unreachable until decryption.
    cryptdevuce=UUID=xxxx-xxxx:root
    sda
    └   root   /
    sdb
    └  sdb1   /boot
This forces the use of /dev/sda for booting, but occasionally a USB device is mapped to sda instead.
Is there a way to use Persistent Block Device Naming for this type of FDE?

MSC wrote:What exactly is not working? It shouldn't matter if the USB device maps to /dev/sda because the partition with that UUID still resides on the same disk.
I guess I should be more clear. The entire sda device is encrypted. This meas that during the initialization there is no UUID is read from the disk because the filesystem cannot be read until it is unencrypted.
This leaves me in a catch 22 where I cannot use UUID until the device is unencrypted, but I need UUID to boot & decrypt the device properly. Here is an example of what the computer sees in the Arch Install.
    NAME            FSTYPE   LABEL                UUID                                 MOUNTPOINT
    sda
    sdb                iso9660     ARCH_201501    2015-01-01-09-54-22-00
    ├─sdb1          iso9660    ARCH_201501     2015-01-01-09-54-22-00       /run/archiso/bootmnt
    └─sdb2          vfat           ARCHISO_EFI    9051-9287
    sdc
    └─sdc1          vfat                                     4EC5-5B7D                        (normally /boot)
As you can see, sda has no uuid.
So I guess what I'm asking is if there is any alternative method because it does not look like I can use anything in the wiki.

  • Can't format encrypted USB

I encrypted an USB stick with Mountain Lion and saved one single file on it. Now I am unable to delete this file (error -50) and even format the stick, neither via Disk Utility nor terminal command. Is there any other way? Maybe a Windows computer (I don't have one)?
Furthermore, sometimes the password is accepted when I insert the stick, sometimes not. it seems that the new encryption in Mountain Lion is beta. Be careful!
    Steffen

I already used the 'dd' command on Linux to write zero's to it and I tried to run DBan on it this night. But that failed as well.
I'm now trying to reset the FDE with the live CD of Lenovo... With no luck. It complains it can't run on a 'real' DOS environment... Which is kind of weird since I boot from that CD and the disk itself is unreadable. So why does it complain about that?
I made a photo of the error: http://www.imagesup.net/?di=5141146011911
I used this live CD: http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds019026

  • Scan and Read USB port

    Hi!
I have USB port in my test jig. So first i want to scan my usb port and it also reads com port number.
what happened, if i connected my test jig with one PC than USB port (COM 4) and some other PC it gives (COM3) through device manager. so every time i have to look device manager and look which port is connected with USB and i have to change port number in program.
so i want to scan usb port and read which com port is connected to USB
    thanks

    Hi swami,
I think there is no way to distinguish between native COM-ports and virtual serial RS232-devices via USB. If you use the VISA VIs to control your serial interfaces, use "VISA Find Ressource" to list the available serial interfaces. As an example you can use it as follows:

  • Encrypted USB No Longer Recognized by iMac

I have a journaled and encryped USB that has worked fine in the past but I have rendered it unrecognizable trying to fix another issue.
Many .pdf files on this USB were not being recognized by Spotlight, so I followed the steps to reindex the drive found here http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2409.
I made it to step 4 and could no longer get the drive to show up in finder.
I mounted and remounted the USB drive a number of times, shut down and restarted the computer, and followed the directions here http://support.apple.com/kb/PH3888 without success.  Now the drive won't even show up under in Utilities - USB.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

After re-installing Mavericks it showed up if I clicked on "Deviced" - "My iMac."  It no longer shows under "Devices" but at least it is recognized again.
