Scanned documents from preview yield blank/black pdf

I have just upgraded laptops and operating systems moving from Snow Leopard to Lion. I am attempting to scan text documents using Preview in Lion as I had done before using Snow Leopard. I am using the same printer/copier/scanner, HP Photosmart C5280, but am encountering different results. When I scanned documents from my previous MacBook using Snow Leopard, I achieved the desired pdf document results. However, when I scan the same document using my new MacBook Air and OS X Lion, the document saves as a blank/black pdf. Does anyone have any idea why this is occurring?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Rysz,
Thank you very much for your prompt reply.
Unfortunately, I ran Software Update and also referenced the HP site to determine the driver for Lion. My driver is up-to-date and no software updates are available.
I am going to keep researching.
Thanks again for your help.

    Hi pascaldu,
Did you choose Czech as the language for OCR? If not, please follow these steps:
Choose File > Save as Other > Microsoft Word > Word Document in Acrobat.
Click Settings at the bottom of the Save As dialog box.
    Click Set Language.
Choose Czech from the Primary OCR pop-up menu, and then click OK.
Click OK again, and then click Save.
Please let us know how it goes.

How do you scan a document from printer to convert to PDF?

Have the scanner connected to the computer.
    Have the scanner software installed.
Check the scanner manufacturer's website for the most recent / updated drivers and install same.
    Have Acrobat XI installed.
While Acrobat XI can make use of Windows WIA drivers Acrobat "likes" TWAIN drivers best.
So, if available, have the latest-greatest TWAIN.
Acrobat can communicate with the scanner via the scanner software.
    An alternative --
Scan directly to TIFF. Then use Acrobat to create PDF from the TIFF.
Some scanners come with software to output to PDF directly; if present you could use that.

This is very odd. Were the images that you scanned before installing Yosemite saved as JPEG? If yes, have you tried saving the scanned image as a TIFF?
Also, if you scan to a USB memory stick from the MX and save this as a JPEG, and then open the file on the Mac, does it also display as black?

How do I copy an entire document from pages into email (not pdf) and have color and format the same as the document created in pages?

Pages ’09 v4.3 and Pages v5.2.2 are entirely different document architectures. Consequently, copying and pasting a table from Pages ’09 circumvents the customary translation process  that would occur if you opened that Pages ’09 document in Pages v5.
Make a backup copy of the Pages ’09 document that has the table in it, and then open this document in Pages v5.2.2. The table is translated into Pages v5 document format and displayed correctly. You can even select this Pages v5.2.2 table, and then copy/paste it into another Pages v5.2.2 document with accurate results.

  • Photosmart C4780 Mac OS 10.9 scan clear on preview, but saves black with white horizontal stripes

I'm having difficulty figuring out why my scanner all of the suddens saves all scanned documents (.pdf, .jpeg, .png) as a black document with white horizontal stripes. The preview scan from the utility looks fine.
I recently updated my Mac to OS 10.9.2
I have uninstalled all HP utilities and drivers and reinstalled them with all updates.
Printing works fine, as does copying.
I scan a lot of forms, so this is disconcerting.
    Thanks for any help.
PS: I see that this is an issue that seems to have been solved for others, but my printer/scanner is not one of the ones listed. Is there another driver to try?

    Hi,
This is a known compatibility issue with the HP Scan application, which is not supported on 10.9.
You may scan using Apple's Image Capture or Preview as listed as a workaround in the following document, a Full Feature Software for your printer is not available for the operating system:

  • Can/t scan documents from HP OJ 6500A plus

Ever since I installed McAfee, I can no longer scan a document from my HP 6500A Plus to my Dell Inspiron desktop computer.  I keep getting the message "Scanner communication cannot be establisheed".

    Hi Greg42,
Thank you for getting back to me again. If the printing is also showing issues, such as the slow printing, it's possible the printer itself could be at fault.
I'd suggest loading about 10 blank pages and make 10 blank copies to test out the hardware without involving the computer in any way. If the copies show problems, the printer has an issue.
If you find that the copies are working fine, run the Print and Scan Doctor from your computer to fix or detect printing and scanning problems. You can save this tool right to your desktop and run it twice (and when needed in the future) for printing and scanning.
Let me know how you make out thus far and we'll go from there.

  • Scanned documents saving as .BMP instead of .PDF

I've had my laptop and all-in-one since June.  I've been scanning my little heart out and saving them as PDF's with no problem.  Until a few days ago when I was tempted to re-enact the printer smashing scene from Office Space.  Now when I scan sometimes it will save as a PDF but most of the time it will save as .bmp.  When scanning documents I select save as PDF but once the document is scanned and I go through the steps to save,  all pages are saved separately as .bmp instead of .pdf.  I haven't changed any settings that I am aware of and I'm not doing anything differently.

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @mistinlaci
I read your post about the scanning issues you're having and I wanted to make my suggestions to you.
    Here they are:
Check for Windows Updates and complete them all:
    Install Windows updates
    Update Adobe:
    Open Reader or Acrobat.
Choose Help - Check For Updates. If a new update is available, it installs automatically.
    Once installed, restart you computer.
Try to print the PDF again.
Run the Print and Scan Doctor. This diagnostic tool will check for any conflicts that could be causing the issue. The tool will show you a report at the end. If there was a problem that the tool could not fix, you will notice it in the results.
Please let me know if the troubleshooting steps helped!

  • Scanning Documents without Preview

Hello! I've been trying to scan documents with my current scanner (an HP all-in-one), but the process goes slowly--mostly because the HP all-in-one seems to insist on showing me a preview of what I'm scanning each time (with a cropping window).
Hence, I'm really scanning every page twice: once for the preview, and then the "real" thing.
    Here's my question:
Is that scanning preview window just an HP thing, or is it something OSX does? How can I shut it off? I just want to scan all of my documents with the same settings each time.
Before I buy a faster scanner with a document feeder, I want to make sure I'm not going to be stuck with previewing each page.
    Thanks for your help!

Although it may not seem like it, there is a difference in time as well as scanner operation between preview & scan modes. Any scanner software I've ever used includes both modes but offer the option to scan without doing a preview first.
I'm not familiar with the HP software, but many offer 2-3 levels of performance. The lowest (novice) level automatically previews, for ex., but the 'pro' setting gives access to direct scanning capability. Have you checked the software out thoroughly to see if it offers multiple levels? It could also be that the s/w is just not offering an acceptable level of performance.
Most of the decent s/w also gives you the ability to save setings as presets files so you can reuse them as desired without having to make the settings manually. Again, this may be available in the HP app if you dig a little deeper. If not, you may want to invest in better quality software.
    Take a look at VueScan - http://www.hamrick.com
It is available in Standard & Professional versions and is one of the most respected scanner packages on the market. The respective prices really aren't bad for what you get, and their support is excellent. You can download a trial version & activate it for a fee if you like it. There is also a compatibility list on the web site so you can determine whether it will work with your current unit as well as any replacement you may be considering.

  • Scanned Documents not previewed in Adobe Acrobat

Until recently when i scanned a document Adobe Acrobat would open with the scanned document. But, It just now started opening up the preview in Adobe Reader. I clicked on "set to default" now it doesn't open any kind of adobe program.i went to the "HP Printer Assistant" and both "Document to email" and "Document to File" both have the "Show Scan Preview" box checked. How can i get the machine to open Adobe Acrobat with the scanned document like it did previously

Hello cfmutton911, Welcome to the HP Forums.  I see that you are having an issue when attempting to preview in Adobe. I have seen similar issues with Adobe in the past.  I suggest that you check the Adobe site to see if any updates have been added.  If you have done any Windows updates recently, you may want to try to do a system restore on your computer as well. Here is the link to the Adobe support site. Thanks for your time.  Cheers,

  • Scanning Documents From File Center from HP Officejet Pro 6830 Not Working with Twain Driver

I just purchased a HP Officejet Pro 6830 All-In-One printer and planned to use it to scan from Filecenter (Lucion Technologies) using TWAIN driver. The Twain driver for the HP shows up in Filecenter, but the scan produces a blank document. My previous All-In-One printer from Dell (Lexmark) scanned to this software with no issues. Are there any solutions to this issue?  Filecenter has different scan modes A and B and Transfer type (Native, Memory and File) and I tried all 6 options and none worked.

    Hi @cyclebob ,
I have brought your issue to the attention of an appropriate team within HP. They will likely request information from you in order to look up your case details or product serial number. Please look for a private message from an identified HP contact. Additionally, keep in mind not to publically post ( serial numbers and case details).

  • Change scanned document from 8.5 x 14 in. to 8.5 x 11 in.? Please?

    Hello everyone,
Earlier this evening, I scanned in several preprinted forms into 3 documents.  The hope was that I would be able to complete these forms by typing them with Adobe Acrobat 9, either as forms, or just the basic typewriter function.  However, the scanned pages are 8.5 x 14 inches, yet the original page size is American standard 8.5 x 11 inches (all pages), 'Portrait' orientation.
How do I get these pages back to their original size, without re-scanning them? [If there is no other way, then how do I set up Acrobat 9 so that it will scan them at 8.5 x 11 inches to begin with?]
I have tried 'page cropping', but this does not seem to be the correct method.  Also, per the directions of another forum poster, I tried 'printing to PDF', but the Adobe driver gives no option of selecting the top of the page as the 11 inches to be 'printed to PDF', and scaling and other methods are out of the question, because these are government forms and must maintain some semblance of their original size.
Your kind consideration and help with my question is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!
    ~Juan Antonio

    Hi,
This is a helpful suggestion, which probably be done periodically as a matter of course.  I will definitely try this when I get to my project today.  Does anyone have other input that they would like to add?  I am going to look, until I get 3 suggestions that might help.  Once it is time for that project, I will try them all.
Take care and thanks for answering my question!!
