Scanned images to documents

After watching the movie 'Accepted' today, I really want to do something showed in the movie. The Main actor scans a document, and it automatically shows up as a document in Pages instead of an image. Is this movie magic or is it possible? I know and have an application that does someting similar, but it didn't look as refined as the Pages document showed in the movie; there were even images in the document. Is this possible? Thanks in advance.

It is possible, but not quite that easy. You will need to use an OCR (optical character recognition) program to convert the pictures of letters into letters. If you have a scanner, it may have come with such as program. Usually, the bundled programs are the "lite" version, but often adequate.
Newer versions of the shareware program, VueScan, are supposed to be able to do OCR. I've used OmniPage Pro X for several years with great success. I had started with the lite version with a previous scanner & bought the retail version when I moved to OS X. It's not cheap, though. Click the Apple tab at the top of this page > Where to Buy > Made4Mac (both in the bar under the tabs). That will take you to http://guide.apple.com/index.lasso (Apple US web site) where you can search for all kinds of software & hardware. An advanced search for software with the keyword OCR returned several possibilities. I've also heard good things about Read Iris Pro.

  • Moving scanned images from documents.........

i scanned approx 50 images from my canon pixma mg5420. they are now located in both documents and 'my image garden' (canon software). is it possible to transfer the images from my documents to iPhoto, and, if it is possible, do you have to do one at a time or can i move the whole group all at once? all this from a mac newbie.

You can select them all and drag them into iPhoto. I can't remember if it makes an event automatically.

  • HP LaserJet 100 colorMFP M175nw scanned images are too bright

    Hello!
Is there a way to change scanner's default image color correction as currently all of resulted scanned images (text documents, graphics, photos) are unnaturally too bright?
I had another HP Ink Jet printer also with scanner and all scanned images have good color correction there.
So I think there is a problem with my current one.
Does anyone knows how to fix it?
    Thanks.

    Hello, Futoji!
    Sorry for big delay.
I did what you've told me and now I am wondering about what I see.
    1) To scan documents I use both HP Scan and Apple Image Capture with default settings (no color correction).
Well it does not matter, though, because I see bright pictures right after scanning them.
    2) I scan documents from flatbed (not feeder), well it is the same for feeder.
    3) So, what I noticed was that printer scanned document and printed it almost exactly as it was only using hardware buttons on it.
But when I did scan using both programs above the same document, it was getting too bright to be real... When I printed such scanned image the result was accordingly bad.
So, what I think is that this scanner works differently for hardware buttons and software or applies some filters on the resulted image...
I found 2 similar posts to mine, they are describing the same problem for different printers, but unfortunately they didn't seem to be solved.

  • How to highlight / draw onto a pdf document that is a scanned image, then save the added elements

    Hello
I'd like to add markings / little annotations or highlight as if with a color marker various sections of a scanned image that has been sent to me in pdf format, which I visualize with Adobe Reader 9 on my PC (Windows). I need to save the changes and then send it back by e-mail to the original sender.
So far I've been awkwardlky making copies of my screen (PrintScreen function) of each individual page of the pdf document, then pasting them into PowerPoint slides, then using various PPT drawing and textbox functions to add my stuff to the, now, PPT file, which then I sent back as such. This is very time-consuming and ridiculous and there's got to be another way of adding these changes within Adobe Reader or another similar software, doesn't it?
Again, the pdf docs that I need to work on are scanned images (medical charts), not actual copiable text (pardon my ignorance of the correct terminology to explain this).
    Thank you for your help,
    Falingo

    So the solutions are:
    1. "Buy Acrobat"....which Adobe Acrobat ?....Stanard, Pro, etc (...obviously I'd like the most basic and cheapest...which one is that?)
    or
    2. "Enable doing that in the Reader"....how exactly am I supposed to do that?

  • I've been sent a scan of a document as an attachment. Clicking on it, I get the message, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum image quality." What is pixel aspect ration and how do I turn it off?

I've been sent a scan of a document as an attachment. Clicking on it, I get the message, "Pixel aspect ration correction is for preview purposes only. Turn it off for maximum image quality." What is pixel aspect ration and how do I turn it off?

It's "aspect ratio", not aspect "ration".
It's what determines whether you have square pixels ("normal") or, if rectangular pixels, what the aspect ratio (width : length)  of that rectangle is.
It's explained in the Help files.  I cannot go into more detail because you have neglected to provide information about your platform and exact version of Photoshop.

  • I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.

I have used Image Capture to scan images/documents and then saved them as either PDFs or PNG files.  For some reason, just this past week, Image Capture will no longer save the file.  It scans, and the Scan Results window pops up, but it won't save file.
The file name has no special character in it, just letters and no spaces.
I have done this in the past and it has worked, but now it will not.
I have not upgraded any software, that I am aware of.
After scanning, the Image Capture pops up the Scan Results with the file name in the window, but neither the Scan Results nor the Image Capture window responds to inputs.  The Image Capture window is frozen, with only the "Overview" and "Cancel" buttons active (but non-responsive).
Is this a software issue or a scanner hardware issue?  I am using a HP Photosmart C6200 series printer/scanner on a network using a Time Capsule airport.
    Thanks.

    I had the same problem.
Got a 90% fix.  Apparently the Mavericks preferences won't work with Yosemite, so I just deleted the Image Capture preferences.
Unfortunately, the "Scan to" folder seems to be permanently set to the Pictures folder.
    1.  Quit Image Capture
    2.  Go to Finder > Go > Home, which opens up your home folder (named after your user name)
    3.  Open Library > Preferences > com.apple.ImageCapture.plist - Drag this file to the Trash
    4.  Start "Image Capture", click "Details" and change all your settings as you prefer
    5.  Quit and restart "Image Capture".   Notice it remembers all your settings except "Scan to" folder.  It insists on saving to "Pictures".
That's as far as I was successful.  I tried changing the "Scan to" folder to "Desktop", but on launch, Image Capture always sets it back to "Pictures".
    This is what I tried:
    6.  Download and install "Pref Setter" from http://www.nightproductions.net/prefsetter.html
    7.  Quit "Image Capture".  Right-click on "com.apple.ImageCapture.plist" and open with Pref Setter.
    8.  Search for "Pictures", which finds "~/Pictures" (the tilde character at the start means your home directory).
    9.  Double-click on "~/Pictures" and change it to the folder you prefer.  I like "~/Desktop"
    10. Choose File > Save then Quit from Pref Setter.  Note that re-opening the plist file still shows "~/Desktop"
    11. Start up "Image Capture" -- on startup, "Image Capture" sets "Scan to" folder to "Pictures"
    I consider this a bug.

  • How scan a text document and save as editable text not image

I have a new ENVY 5660 and a macbook pro running yosemite.  When I scan a text document and try to save it, I am only given a choice of image formats.  How can I save it as an editable text in pages or word?

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I see that you are wondering how to scan a text document, and save as editable text, and not a image, with your HP Envy 5660, on Mac OS X 10.10. I am happy to look into this for you!  According to your printer's specifications, it states: NOTE: Integrated OCR software is available only with Officejet 5740 and 8040 models. Which means, this software is not included with this printer. You might be able to perform this operation, if you are able to get third-party OCR software. Such as: ReadIris.  Hope this answers your question!  “Please click the Thumbs up icon below to thank me for responding.”

How do I scan and email documents on my canon mx870? I have a MAC OS X 10.7.5 and it is connected with a usb cable to the printer. Thank you so much!

Hi, I have 10.6.8 and an HP printer so it may be slightly different but I'll give it my best shot:
    Go to System Preferences.
    Click on "Print & Fax"
Near the top of that page you should see "Print" and "Scan" options. Click "Scan"
A button appears that says "open scanner"
The settings are different between the different scanner models so I'm not sure what the next window will look like, but it should be pretty straightforward from there. It will scan to a JPEG image which you can attach to an email. I hope that helps! Let me know if there's anything ense I can help with.

  • Scanned image in Browser is not getting refreshed

    Hi
We are facing a strange issue. We have scanned an invoice and this is stored in the R/# system. Now when the user clicks on a scanned image the user gets a scanned document that he has opened previous to this. Now once h closes this and again clicks then he gets the correct scanned image. This is being experienced by only a handful of users. I think it might be some Browser related issue. Can anyone throw some light how to solve this issue.

Any answer will be highly appreciable.

    Hi,
In DC10 we define the document type and the default application to open that perticular documents. for ex document type images and default application type JPEG etc.
. now whenever you create any document with Doc type and attach the documents and after try to view the documents system will treat the originals as images of type JPEG and try to open with the workstation application like paint, image viewer
I hope your doubt clear abt dc10.

  • VBA code to import scanned images into Photoshop CS2 with TWAIN

    Hi,
I have to develop a solution that automates the scanning of an image using the TWAIN driver interface. Once scanned, the image appears as a new document in Photoshop where it will be further processed using VBScript scripts.
    The solution so far :
Using the freeware 'EZTW32.dll' (copied into C:\WINDOWS\System\), I am able to open the TWAIN scan dialogue on screen, using the function 'TWAIN_AcquireToClipboard(Me.Hwnd, nPixTypes) from the 'EZTW32' dll.
Once the image is scanned, the TWAIN driver is automatically closed, leaving the scanned image on the Windows clipboard.
I then launch Photoshop CS2 using a shell code :
(It is important that Photoshop runs minimized)
    Dim strPathname As String
    Dim lngShellReturn As Long
    Dim appRef As Object
    Dim newDocRef
    strPathname = "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS2\Photoshop.exe"
    lngShellReturn = Shell(strPathname, vbMinimizedNoFocus)
    Set appRef = CreateObject("Photoshop.Application")
When Photoshop is running, then a new document is created and the scanned image is pasted into the document from the Windows clipboard...
    Set newDocRef = Documents.Add(8.268, 11.693, 600, "New Doc")
    newDocRef.Paste
OK, this works up to a point. The newly scanned image appears automatically in Photoshop.
The big problem is that when the user makes a change in resolution or draws a selection box in the TWAIN dialog, this data is not recovered from TWAIN, so the image size parameters in the new document cannot be set.
A beter solution would be to write code that emulates the menu commands in Photoshop CS2:
File -> Import -> [Current Scanner]
that launches the TWAIN driver for the current scanner (the code must close TWAIN immediately after scanning). In this case, the resolution and image selection parameters are also imported into the new document.
I am currently refering to the Photoshop CS2 SDK. Do I need to request the Advanced SDK ?
Once beyond this point, then I think I can continue the image processing routines using VBScript as per the SDK.
Any help or other pointers to the TWAIN problem would be VERY APPRECIATED !
    Lars

PLEASE IGNORE MY PREVIOUS POST !
I have now fully resolved the TWAIN problem. It works perfectly and is very robust. I am now continuing with the batch image processing for the newly scanned images using the Photoshop CS2 SDK scripting documents, that I find very detailed, well written, and VERY helpful :)
    Peace and love,
    Lars

  • Acrobat X Pro-no scanned images visible

I recently bought Acrobat X Pro and try as hard as I can, I cannot get any scanned images to show up. The pages are gray. A pdf from Word, etc. is all right, but not if it's a scanned image. I went throught a couple of the tutorials on how to scan documents, but so far nothing has worked.  Google Books that were downloaded as PDFs earlier are the same way. Only the 1st page with the Google blurb shows up. All other pages are gray. I can open and read them in Reader X.
    Janet Tanksley

Working now - followed fix in http://forums.adobe.com/message/4775416

  • Reader X displays scanned images as blank, grey pages

I have a great many PDFs (version 1.5) that are now unreadable with Acrobat X. These pages consist of scanned images that were converted to PDF, but now the pages are grey. You can search the OCR of the documents as before, but you can't see the pages. I have other PDFs that were created the same way at the same time, but don't have that problem, so it's inconsistent. The problem does not exist with Reader 9.

In my case: v10.1.1 would not open more than one pdf at a time on a user workstation (although mine did) so I tried disabling protected mode and made sure the large image display setting was correct.
To no avail. Reinstalled version base version 10, checked the same settings...no joy
Also tried repairing the install and re-updated from the base v10...still no love
Solution for me: Opened reader X, under Help-->Online Support, there is an option to generate a system report which availed the following:
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce FX 5200
        Version: 7.15.10.9685
        Check: Not Supported
And of coarse the most recent driver was already present. Had to go back to v9.4
All good now. Hope this saves someone a few hours!

  • Why is the preview or scan images as separate files grayed out? When it was working just fine before

I have windows 8...I have been using this scanner for about a month. My scan/fax/printer is a Brother MFC-8910DW. This is what brothers website says regarding this make and model. "Scan multi-page documents using the 50-page capacity auto document
feeder or use the legal-size document glass for bound materials." For the Full month it has been scanning multiple pages using Microsoft scan a document or picture. I tried to scan this morning and it will now only let me scan ONE page at a time.(( I
have to scan over 800 pages!!) On the lower left corner there is a box I was able to click previously it says preview or scan images as separate files. It is now grayed out and I am unable to select it. I know for a fact it has nothing to do with my printer
because I use it for a month and it worked beautifully. Please could someone help with this issue?

    Hi,
For this issue, I would suggest you update to the latest printer driver, if you have any other related printer\scanner programs installed, please make sure that you have the latest version or reinstall as a test.

  • Number of scanned images

    Hi,
We would like to track the number of images or documents that were scanned by the hp scanner on daily basis.
Could you please help us how to get this information from the scanner software?
    Thanks,
    Banu Prakash

Hello there! Welcome to the forums @Banuprakash
The only way you would be able to see any scanned images from history, would be to check the folder you save the scans to on your computer. If the scans are deleted, they cannot be recovered. The printer does not store scanned history.
I hope this helps, have a great day
