Scanned picture not clear in iPhoto but clear on desktop

Hi,
This is going to be lengthy as I would like to give as much information to the person/s who will please help.
I have iphoto2 and iphoto 4 on different machines. Both work- for the most part just fine. I also have Kodak Easyshare software on my computer. We have to Kodak Easyshare cameras that work just fine. One computer in our house is an old eMachine with Windows ME. The photo program we have on it is a free download- Picasa.
Anyway, I have a Canon scanner- CanoScan 8400F. I have used it and as far as I know and understand it works just fine. I have scanned slides, Poloroid pictures, and other things and they have worked fine. I have also brought these pictures into iPhoto 2 and 4, Kodak Easyshare (on the Mac), and Picasa(on the Windows machine.)
The last thing I did had issues. I scanned a picture of my father that was recently acquired. It was black and white picture taken many years ago. I think what I have is a photo copy of the original. The photocopy still looks ok. I scanned the photocopy into my G4 Mac with Panther. On the desktop when I click on it, (I saved it as 100%jpeg), it opens by itself, at first it is not sharp, but after a few seconds something happens and the photo becomes sharp. It looks really nice.
I imported the picture into iPhoto and it shoes up with thin scan lines across it and they don't go away. The same thing happened when I imported it into Kodak Easyshare. The thin horizontal scan lines are on it- pretty much top to bottom as I recall. The picture works, but I have never experienced this. As I mentioned earlier, with the jpeg on my desktop, if I open it in Viewer? after a second or two it is displayed in top form. Now, I scanned this picture to send to two of my brothers. I was not happy with the picture, so I top the picture (jpeg), installed it on my old emachine, imported it into Picasa, and Bingo- it shows up just fine. I emailed the picture from Picasa. Why was it looking right in Picasa and not with iPhoto 2 or 4, nor with the Mac version of Kodak software?
Thank you for your time in reading this and I hope to get this solved.
Thank you again

Update-
I rescanned the photo and brought it into iPhoto 4 again and it is fine. I brought it into the Kodak software and it is not. I save the file on a pocket drive and loaded it onto my G3 computer with iPhoto 2 again. It is not fine. So it is working only with iPhoto 4- and also on the viewer on the desktop as before.

Here is a quote from a longtime and dedicated Apple OS user.
"The warning will be helpful to others, though it boggles the mind to read that someone who uses CS5, or any version of Photoshop, would want to bother with iPhoto—ever.
The "problem" is not Bridge's but Apple's iPhoto.  It is iPhoto that hides your images in packages."

  • Pictures not recognized by iPhoto

I have just installed Lion and iPhoto 11 version 9.1.5.
Now, when I import pictures they are not recognized by iPhoto. I can see them i Finder.
At first the import seems to work: The import function runs and the event is created. (The name of the event is typed in by me as normally before starting the import).
But when I open the event the pictures aren’t there. When I restart iPhoto the event has disappeared.
    Can anyone help?

I have solved the problem my self
Press the Command and Option key. Launch iPhoto while holding the two keys. A dialog box comes up. Put a check mark in “Examine and repair iPhoto Library file permissions”.

  • Pictures not appearing in iphoto library

I'm using version 2.0.1 of iphoto. Some of the pictures that are in my picture folder will not appear in the photo library. I have "rebuilt" iphoto, but some of the more recent pictures do not appear in the library. Any ideas on what else I could do to get all my photos to appear in the library.
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Some of the pictures that are in my picture folder will not appear
    in the photo library
That's not surprising since iPhoto 2 wouldn't have any way to know anything about photos that haven't been imported into iPhoto. Your Pictures folder isn't the same as your iPhoto Library folder.

  • Newly imported pictures not appearing in iPhoto '08 Library

So, while I was importing a whole slew of photos today, iPhoto became unresponsive (I think because of two RAW images I inadvertantly left on the camera).  I had to force quit iPhoto and when I relaunched it, none of the photos imported show up in my library.  They are available if I browse "All Images," but if I try to drag and drop any of them into the iPhoto Library it says they're already there.
    Advice?

Never access photos that are managed by iPhoto in your All Images search. It's a good way to damage your Library.
Surefire fix: restore from back up.
    Other than that:
Try these in order - from best option on down...
    1. Do you have an up-to-date back up? If so, try copy the library6.iphoto file from the back up to the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) allowing it to overwrite the damaged file.
    2. Download <a href="http://www.fatcatsoftware.com/iplm/"><b><u>iPhoto Library Manager</b></u></a> and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    3. If neither of these work then you'll need to create and populate a new library.
To create and populate a new *iPhoto 08* library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same Events and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, modified versions, books, calendars etc.
In the iPhoto Preferences -> Events Uncheck the box at 'Imported Items from the Finder'
Move the iPhoto Library to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library (Right Click -> Show Package Contents) on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual Event Folders to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.

  • Pictures Not Opening in iPhoto

After rearranging my photos within the iPhoto Library folder, they will no longer open. The thumbnails appear, and the photos will open in Preview. Is it possible to arrange them to my preferences if I keep them in the Originals folder in iPhoto?

    Macinaction
It is strongly advised that you do not move, change or in anyway alter things in the iPhoto Library Folder as this can cause the application to fail and even lead to data loss
so therefore: Is it possible to arrange them to my preferences if I keep them in the Originals folder in iPhoto?
    No it's not.
iPhoto is a photo organiser. It's a database and like any database it will not work if you manipulate the data outside of the application. So everything you want to do you must do via the iPhoto Window. The good news is that anything you need to can be done from inside the iPhoto Window.
To cases: To get iPhoto working again you must return it to the way it was. If you cannot do that, then you need to create and populate a new library. To create and populate a new library:
Note this will give you a working library with the same film rolls and pictures as before, however, you will lose your albums, keywords, books, calendars etc.
Move the iPhoto Library Folder to the desktop
Launch iPhoto. It will ask if you wish to create a new Library. Say Yes.
Go into the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop and find the Originals folder. From the Originals folder drag the individual rolls to the iPhoto Window and it will recreate them in the new library.
When you're sure all is well you can delete the iPhoto Library Folder on your desktop.
In the future, in addition to your usual back up routine, you might like to make a copy of the library6.iPhoto file whenever you have made changes to the library as protection against database corruption.
Some further info: Were organising things to make it easier to find photo files? There are three ways (at least) to get files from the iPhoto Window.
    1. Drag and Drop: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. File -> Export: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. Show File: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
Also the Film Roll view (View -> Film Rolls) corresponds exactly to the Roll folders in the Finder. Rolls can be named, created, photos can be moved between rolls - as long as this is done via the iPhoto Window and then these changes are reflected in the iPhoto Library Folder.
If you need help in achieving anything specific or clarification of anything here by all means post again.

  • Import crashed - files not viewable in iPhoto but on Mac (not importable)

Importing 220 photos from Kodak camera via printer/dock 6000. With 6 left to go it crashed. The photos ARE in a folder in iPhoto directory but do not appear in iPhoto. I tried importing from those folders but get message that they 'could not be imported (they may be an unrecognizable file type or may not contain valid data)". They are no longer on the camera so I can't re download them.

That message is what you get if you try to import files that are already inside the iPhoto library; iPhoto won't do that. If the photos are there in iPhoto library/Originals, you can drag them to your desktop from the Finder. Be careful not to change anything else in Finder, since this is the most common cause of trouble with iPhoto. See if they open in Preview. If so, then within the iPhoto app you can Import them into iPhoto from the desktop.
By the way, it's a good idea to not let iPhoto delete files from your camera, since this is an often reported problem. Better to let your camera reformat the card, both for safer uploading and for better camera card performance (so I've read).

  • Modified pictures not updated in iPhoto

    Hi everyone,
I'm using iPhoto 11(9.3.2) to manage my photolibrary. Best tool ever.
For modifying my pictures, I use the external application Photoshop Elements 10(10.0)
Opening the external app, including the chosen picture works fine. Saving also.
However: if I try to see the modifications I've made (with PSE) in iPhoto: No modifications.
I found out that the modified picture was saved in the 'Preview'-folder (find it through finder)
So: Photoshop Elements seems to save the picture in that folder; not in the 'master' or 'thumbnail', and I don't know why, and how to change that.
Does anyone have a clue, how to solve this?
    Thanks for your advice!

Hi Terence, thanks for your comment so far.
No what I do is as follows:
In the external editor, I make the modifications.
After that I choose Save from the File menu.
    Then this screen appears:
So there is a field named Save as, NO save field. Whether I choose a different name filename, it doesn't make sense.
Now, while I was writing and figuring out the previous sentence, I found out what contributed to the problem:
The initial filename format in iPhoto is *.JPEG
When saving the edited picture in PSE, it automatically calls it *.jpg, so without the E.
If I add this E to the filename, it updates the thumbnail in iPhoto -> Problem solved.
But there is a strange extra to this:
the picture I was modifying was scanned on an HP All-in-one scanner. For these pictures, this problem occurs.
When editing a photo, which comes from either my iPhone, iPad or my Panasonic DMC-FZ38 there is no problem.
So I may come to the conclusion that somewhere in the scanningproces on the HP an 'invisible' tag or flag or something like that is added to the picture which may caus this problem?

  • New Photos not appearing in iPhoto but are in Show Contents

    Hello,
I am have a few issues with iPhoto.
    1. My last two imports of photos do not appear.  the Last import is showing photos from back in 2013.  If I Show Contents I can drill down and see in Master, Original a 2014/04/12  & 13 folder with sub folders and all the pictures.  I made a not of the file names and back in Iphoto I tried to search for the image name but it did not retrn any results
    2. I have had to force quit iPhoto 2-3 times in the past two days
    3. Today when I open iPhoto, the Events do not show photo is is a black box.  If I scroll up and down it then shows some photos, like I would nomally see.
Do this issue seem to indicate a problem with iPhoto, is there an index type issuse.. can I rebuild iPhoto in some way
For point 1, can i delete the folders in the "Show Content" option and reimport them?
    Thanks

For point 1, can i delete the folders in the "Show Content" option and reimport them?
No.  If you know the file name of the photos that are not showing do a search form them with the search tool:
If the image shows up Control (right) - click on it and select Show Event from the contextual menu.
If it does'nt kdo the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
    2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database.

  • How can I see pictures not imported using iphoto within iphoto?

I just got a new iMac and am converting over from a Dell PC.  I have thousands of pictures that I copied over.  I then synced my ipad and all those pictures imported using iPhoto.  I liked the ability to see Events and Faces and ws thinking I might like to bring in all of my older pictures.  Is there a way to do that? Would I even want to? Would it recognize the folder structure I established for each event?

As Léonie pointed out each folder imported into iPhoto will result in an Event with the same name as the folder. In the photos mode with Event titles set to be displayed you'll get this:
Once inside iPhoto you can merge  Events or drag photos from one event into another.
However if you want to create a hierarchical folder organization you'll need to do that in the left hand pane of iPhoto with folders and albums.
That is create a folder and drag events into it and you will have albums in the folder representing the events.  These are only pointers to the original files and not duplicate files.  Folders can hold folders, albums, books, slideshows but not individual photos.  So you could create a hierarchy like this:

  • Can I merge multiple iPhoto libraries in the new Photo's app. This was not possible in iPhoto but is possible in Aperture.

Now that iPhoto is 'Photos' on 10.10.3 is it possible to merge multiple iPhoto libraries. It is possible to this this in Aperture but not in iPhoto (I'm using 10.10.2 and can't upgrade until other software I use is qualified for 10.10.3). Here's the deal - I  changed my drive to an SSD and backed up my old hard drive (which had the original iPhoto library on it. I did a clean install with my new drive so iPhoto created a new (blank) library. This upgrade was done a few months ago so now I have 2 different iPhoto libraries. Note that the newer library is connected to iCloud and if I was to 'Switch Libraries' it will delete my current photo stream. There is a way to do this manually - I could switch to the old library and locate the root folders in the 'newer library', move them to a new folder and import. This procedure is awkward and not my preferred route. So if there's anyone using the new 'Photos' app on 10.10.3 please let me know thanks!

To merge the libraries manually use "File > Export".
To save the high quality originals, set the export panel like this, with "Kind Original":
If you have edited versions with added titles, caption, places, etc, use these export settings to save your work:
