Scanner compatability

Hi guys
does anyone know if there are any problems using scanners with the new intel macs?
I want to buy a Canon Lide but can't find any info beyond what operating system it works with.
Thanks in advance
20" intel iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Look for an Intel Mac compatible driver on the download page of the U.S. Canon website. The European site is very slow at being updated with new driver versions... drivers that have been available for weeks on the U.S. site have yet to show up on canon.uk or canon.de.
Epson has been much better in this regard.

How full is the hard drive that you are trying to save to? Not that it should matter, but have you tried scanning another document?
Is the scanner plugged directly into the Mac? Try it that way.
Disconnect all peripherals except keyboard, monitor, mouse and scanner and see if the problem goes away.

  • Hp scanner compatability?

I have a Macbook OS X with version 10.4.11. My hp scanner is a scanjet 3400C. The software disk is the HP precisionscan LTX with a date of 2000 on it. Is it possible to get a software update and use this scanner with my Macbook? I'm so confused!

    1. Go to http://www.hp.com
    2. Click on "software and drivers"
    3. Enter "ScanJet 3400C" and press enter
and voila, you will be presented by Windows-only operating systems. HP does currently not offer a Mac OS X driver for this device.
However, this topic has nothing to do with Windows/Mac OS X compatibility.

  • Upgrade to Adobe 9 pro breaks scanner compatibility

I have been using Adobe 7 Standard and Adobe 8 Standard to create PDF documents from my flatbed scanner (Microtek ScanMaker S400).
This had been working fine until I upgraded to Adobe 9 Professinal about 2 months ago.
Now, when I try to create a  PDF from the scanner most of the options are grayed out (Black and White Document, grayscale document, color document, color image). There are two options available: Custom Scan and Presets.  The Custom Scan opens another dialog box with some options. When I choose "scan" I get an error saying:
"Error while interacting with the scanner: the selected scanner was not found."
The scanner continues to work normally with other programs on my computer including Adobe Photoshop.
I am running Windows XP SP3 with 3GB of RAM. No recent hardware changes have been made.
I've reinstalled the scanner drivers and have the most uptodate version.

Try re-installing the scanner driver and/or finding the most recent drivers to install.

  • Epson 836XL Scanner compatibility - HELP!

My wife's Mirrored Door G4 died on her a few months back and I got her a MacMini. It works great, but had no room for the SCSI card used to drive/connect her oversized Epson 836XL scanner. I tried to find a Mac SCSI to Firewire or SCSI to USB adaptor but none of them had 1) the proper pin configuration and 2) were supposedly only PC compatible.
I pulled the SCSI card out of her old computer and put it in mine. The computer recognizes it in PCI slot 5 as a SCSI Bus Controller so I'm pretty sure it is still working, even though her old computer motherboard was fried. Anyway, I hooked the scanner to my G4, installed the drivers and tried to use it but it the computer just doesn't seem to be seeing it. I know the scanner drivers were supposedly only good up through OSX 10.2.X but I would hope that it would still be usable under 10.3.9.
I even tried using the optional parallel port connector on the back of the scanner and hooking it up with a parallel to USB cable to my Mac but that didn't work either.
I'm about at my wits end. It worked fine on her G4 under 10.2.9. I would hope that it would work on my older computer even though my OS is a later version. It just doesn't seem to be able to be recognized by my computer. A new oversized scanner runs in the $1500 range and that is a bit more than we can spend.
    Anyone have any ideas?
Here is the SCSI card info, if it can be useful:
    Type: SCSI Bus Controller
    Bus: PCI
    Slot: SLOT-5
    Vendor ID: 0x9004
    Device ID: 0x5078
    Subsystem Vendor ID: 0x9004
    Subsystem ID: 0x7850
    Revision ID: 0x0003
Do I need a SCSI driver for the card maybe? Thanks.

Thanks Dave. You know what? I downloaded the trial version and believe it or not it worked! I didn't expect it to as I thought there was a connection issue, but the SCSI interface seems to work with VueScan. I was hoping I'd be able to get it to work with the Photoshop plug-in but I guess that is not to be.
Thanks so much for turning me on to this, you don't know how much time and $$$ you've saved me. It anyone knows if there any current drivers that will get it to work with Photoshop under 10.3.9 or higher, that would be great too.

    Hi,
You might try installing the trial version of
Vuescan. It says it supports your model scanner.

  • Mavericks seems to break Scanner compatibility.

I can't use my high speed Canon DR2010c scanner after upgrading to Mavericks. It's not being recognized by Image Capture and there are no Canon-supplied TWAIN drivers since (according to Canon) Apple supplies the drivers. The scanner shows up in System Profiler.
According to other posters, Epson scanners are having the same issue.
    Help is appreciated.

How do you edit your own post, BTW?
Withing 15 minutes there should be and Edit link next to the Like and Reply link.
If you fail to find a fix give ViewScan a try.  You can check at its website to see if your scanner is supported. I would be surprised if it wasn't.

  • Scanner compatibility with Lion

I have upgraded my MacBook pro to Lion.  Since this latest upgrade, my epson perfection 2480 scanner is not compatible with the latest upgrade.  How do I make sure that whatever I buy now is compatible?
    Thank,
    Sue

  • Epson scanner compatibility

For years, I've used an Epson Perfection 2400 Photo flatbed scanner with its included excellent EpsonScan software. I can scan photos, negatives, slides and multi-page documents, newspaper articles and more with ease, saving the images as JPEGs, TIFFs or even multi-page PDFs.
Recently, my aging MacBook Pro (2,2 running MacOS 10.6.8) died. I had to quickly find a replacement. I bought a refurbished late-2012 iMac (running MacOS 10.8). It was, of course, inevitable that I would find some things "broken" when I fired up the iMac and started integrating it into my workflow. The Epson scanner turned out to be one of the "broken" items. Epson Scan software will not launch at all now.
Epson tries to funnel MacOS 10.8 users over to Apple's ImageCapture for scanning, but ImageCapture is like going back to the early 1990s when it comes to a scanning workflow. A significant portion of my scanning is multi-page official documents that I scan into PDFs so they can be shared. Epson Scan made that easy.
Am I "fetched up, hard aground" on the shoals of Mountain Lion? It doesn't look like this (scanning) boat is going anywhere. What are my options?

  • Scanner compatibility

After I installed the Lion software my HP 3500c scanner quit working.
    The following message appears:
You can't open the application ScanLaunch because PowerPC applications are
    no longer supported.
Unfortunately HP does not support the latest Apple software, Apple does not
support the Power PC applications and I have to spend money to get a new
    scanner that works.
Here is HP's response to my inquiry:
As per your technical concern, the HP Scanjet 3500c is not supported on
MacOSX 10.7. At this moment we do not have a release date for an update or
patch to get the scanjet working on Lion OS. We appologize for the
    inconvenience this might cause you.
If anyone has a solution, I would appreciate their feedback.

    Never mind. It is.

  • Mid-volume scanner compatibility with Lion?

I haven't been able to find a compatible mid-volume (30-60pp/m) scanner for my MacBook Pro running with Lion. Does anyone have any suggestions?

  • Digital camera compatibility with MAC OS9.x

Some of the new digicams claim to be compatible only with versions of OS 10.x. Does this imply that pics cannot be downloaded and read properly in OS9.x, if read from a camera card thru a [compatible] card reader? Assume it means the downloadable software that comes with the digicam is incompatible with OS9.x, but is that really important for downloading from a card reader, working with [Photoshop], printing etc? I know Canon's new digicams, for example, are not OS9.x compatible according to Canon, and I'm sure there are others.
I hesitate to go the new OS10.4 route as my logitech webcam is only compatible up to 9.2.1 and some versions of 10.2 and 10.3, I believe. Not sure about my Microtech i700 scanner compatibility either. I've still got 8-9GB space avail on my G4 cube, but know photos can sure eat that up fast.

    James,
USB card reader (or PCMCIA card adapter for laptop users). Best things I ever, EVER bought.
Trying to get the pictures off the card whilst in the camera, is slow and eats camera batteries - I can't get all the pictures off a 1Gb or 4Gb card over the USB connection, whilst the card is in the camera, without the batteries running out (so I use PCMCIA for big cards).
Stick with OS9.2.1 if you want. You can also go fishing for OS9 compatible software on all the camera manufacturers websites, Kodak still supply OS8 & OS9 stuff - of course, the licence agreement says you have to have a Kodak camera to use the stuff. But check all manufacturers.
When in OS9 I still use their (Kodak) software - 8 years old now - even with my newest cameras (strangely, same with the battery charger, the 8yo Kodak charger is 10x better than the Olympus, Minolta and Nikon efforts I've picked up in that time).
Let us know if you find anything good.

  • Photoshop CS5 doesn't recognize scanner

    Hi there,
I bought a new iMac G5 (OS 10.6.4) four days ago only to find Photoshop CS5 was not recognizing the scanner on my two year old Samsung SCX 4500 Printer/Scanner (the printer works fine). I downloaded the most recent Samsung scanner driver (1.0) and Photoshop still doesn't recognize it. Both Preview and Image Capture on the Mac recognize the scanner which enables me to scan and then upload to Photoshop, but that adds a step I'd rather avoid. Unfortunately it seems that a lot of people are losing printer/scanner compatibility when they upgrade.
    Any thoughts on a fix?
    thanks

all the components for the mac can be found here:
    http://www.ellert.se/twain-sane/
you want to first download libusb as a binary for 10.6
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/libusb-2009-09-10/10.6/libusb.pkg.tar.gz
    and then install it
then download SANE backends as a binary for 10.6
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/sane-backends-2010-01-17/10.6/sane-backends.pkg.tar.gz
    then install
then download TWAIN SANE Interface as a binary for 10.6 and install
    http://www.ellert.se/PKGS/TWAIN-SANE-Interface-2.9/10.6/TWAIN-SANE-Interface.pkg .tar.gz
    reboot, open photoshop,
you should now have a "sane.." listed as an option as you would your old scanner.

  • Seeking advice on mid-level professional scanner

Have recently opened up my own consulting business, and find that I am creating more and more presentations. My current all-in-one printer is insufficient for scanning good quality images that I can manipulate and import into PowerPoint or Keynote. So, I am looking for a separate scanner that lets me scan images (mainly from magazines or other print matter) quickly and in good resolution. Does anyone have recommendations for something in price category £200/€300? And, is all the great resolution quality of higher-end machines lost if I mainly project my presentations via one of the usual computer beamers? If I am scanning millions of colours is it irrelevant if beamers project using only RBG (or is this logic incorrect?)?

You might want to see if the scanners you are looking for have been reviewed by http://www.macworld.com/ magazine, as well as http://www.macuser.co.uk/
I've also put on a FAQ* some information on scanner compatibility which may be useful:
