Scanner Connection - odd question

I have a Macbook Pro and a Windows PC (sadly). I am using an Airport Extreme with a connected Airport Express. I have a USB drive connected to the USB on the Airport extreme, and a Lexmark X7170 All-in-One connected USB to the airport express. I have all the computers printing to the X7170. However, I would like to scan from the X7170 to any computer. How do I set this up?
I set up the Lexmark locally and it will scan no problem. But when I added it via network, it only allows me to print. What am I doing wrong here?

Welcome to the discussions EricU571!

You are probably not doing anything wrong. It's just that Lexmark and just about every other manufacturer of all-in-one devices only support the print function when the device is connected to the USB port on the AirPort Extreme, Express and Time Capsule.
Lexmark would be the final authority on this, so you'll need to check with them to see whether they have provided drivers to allow advanced features at the USB port of the AirPorts. It's unlikely that they have, but anything is possible.

  • I just upgraded to a new iMac running OS X 10.8.2 and can't scan from by Brother MHC 7820N.  Printer works.  I reinstalled the scanner driver but when I try to scan, the scanner doesn't connect to the imac.  Image Capture says no scanner connected.

    I just upgraded to a new imac running OS X 10.8.2 and am having trouble scanning from my Brother MHC 7820N.  Printer works fine but the scanner won't connect to the imac.  I reinstalled the scanner driver from Brother.com but no luck.  When I go to Image Capture, it says no scanner connected.  Any suggestions?

    You might try a third party scanner software. Printer manufacturers are terrible about keeping their products updated. I'd recommend VueScan, you can get a trial version here and if it works and you like it you can purchase it.

  • Ricoh scanner Connection

    Has anyone been successful in connecting their Ricoh Copier/scanner to a share on a Mac running either Mavericks or Yosemite without going with SMBup or equivalent software?
    Right now the only way I can have the scanner in the copier push files is to a Mac running SMBup. Anything with the Apple native SMB, guest or user, it will not connect, giving authentication errors.
    I also cannot get any Windows users as Guest to connect to a Mac share. They must have the user checked in the sharing box.
    What's your solutions for the copiers to connect to shares?

    Hello @archyp2 , and welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience!
    I understand you're having scanner connectivity issues.  I would love to try and help!
    I would suggest disconnecting the USB cable, and Uninstalling the Printer Software.
    Once it is uninstalled, I would suggest putting your system into clean boot mode within the Microsoft configuration.  You can do so by following this document: How to perform a clean boot in Windows.
    Once the computer is in clean boot mode, I would suggest reinstalling the HP Printer Install Wizard for Windows.
    Make sure not to connect the USB cable until prompted.
    Good luck and please let me know the results of your troubleshooting steps. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums!

  • Odd question

    This is kind of an odd question.
    We have a webcam that we would like to stream video to.  We have the wiring in, and it runs into our network.  The problem is that the network is rather complicated and for some reason the signal from the web camera is getting lost. We need to know if it is an issue with the camera itself or with the network.
    And I was thinking to myself, here we also have this verizon netbook with mobile broadband.  If I could plug the webcam / ethernet system into the netbook and could get an internet signal, then I would know the problems we are having are an issue with the network and not the camera.  At which point the solution would be to just get a second independent fios line.
    So the question is this... is there any way to treat the netbook kind of like a router.  Plug an ethernet cable in, install some software, forward a couple of ports and that is pretty much it.  It really doesn't matter if it runs slow or not, because this is just about testing some systems.
    Thanks

    Using the netbook for the configuration you are requesting is not supported. Only hotspot devices support a similar setup to a router. Examples of these devices would be the following:
    HTC Droid Incredible
    Motorola Droid 2
    Motorola Droid R2D2
    Motorola Droid X
    Palm Pixi
    Palm Pre
    Samsung Fascinate
    MiFi 2200 Intelligent Hotspot

  • Bit Of An Odd Question.

    Hi Everyone, I have a bit of an odd question but my friend gave me his old version of photoshop cs5 with the product key i was wondering if i could register it under my name at all?

    If that copy has been used in any upgrade path, then it is no longer valid.
    Also, Adobe has paperwork, that must be filled out, to transfer ownership of valid licenses. I would have your friend complete that paperwork for the gifted copy. Adobe Customer Support can get them the necessary paperwork. Once, that transfer could be done via FAX, but not sure what the process might be now.
    Good luck,

  • Odd question: retrieving a serial number

    This is an odd question, and I can't find anywhere appropriate to ask it. Is there any way I can look up the Apple products that are registered to me? I had a MacBook stolen last week, and I need the serial number to report to the police on the odd chance that they find it. I can't seem to find the serial number anywhere in my files. Can I get that info from Apple? If so, how?

    Try calling Apple for that info. I don't know of any place on their website that you can retrieve that information.

    i assume that you have some logic to scan an image to forms afterwards (and somehow the twain.dll will be involved Scan documents using twai.dll I would guess that there are some methods in there to check for an existing scanner.

  • A very odd question about accessing cube via HTTP PUMP

    hi there:
      Everything was fine a couple of days ago when I used excel to connect to cube. Today, when I use excel -> from Other sources, I can select the AS database but can not see the cube at all... The odd thing is that if I choose to use Existing Connections
    which contains the connection to the CUBE before, after put my user id and password, I am able to connect and navigate cube data.
    There is a role for the AS database and myself has been granted as Full control ( administrator).  I've also switched to SSMS and access cube over there directly, no issues at all.
     Question: why excel is not allowing me to see the list of cubes for an AS database???
    Thanks

    Hello,
    How have you setup permissions for the HTPP access. If e.g. IIS and SSAS running on different machines, the permissions settings are a little bit difficult. So may a different user is used and that one may don't have permissions to access the cube.
    See Configure HTTP Access to Analysis Services on Internet Information Services (IIS) 7.0 => Step 3: Configure IIS authentication and add the extension + Step 5: Grant data access
    permissions

  • HT1338 printer scanner geberate no camera or scanner connected

    My hp printer scanner generates a camera or scanner not connected error I tried to delete and then reload printer but nothing HELP

    Hello Maddog43,
    Thank you for using Apple Support Communities
    It sounds like youre getting an error message saying no camera or scanner is connected when trying to use the printer.
    First I would see if there are newer drivers available for the printer/scanner in question with this article:
    Printer and scanner software available for download
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3669
    Then, if needed, I would troubleshoot the print system on the computer.

  • Jabber/WebEx Connect SSO Questions

    I've got a few questions around exactly what needs to be done to get SAML working for our Connect accounts to successfully authenticate from Jabber for Windows, Mac, iPhone, and Android.
    We have both a Meeting Center and Connect account under WebEx using Loose Coupled Integration. Just this past week I enabled SAML for our Meeting Center accounts which went off without a hitch with the exception of Meeting Center integration with Jabber, which is now broken with a message about SSO enabled Meeting Sites not being supported (I think this would maybe be fixed if we had Tight Coupled Integration with our two account?).
    Anyway, my questions are...
    For Windows, I understand all clients will need to be reinstalled with the MSI argument for the SSO_ORG_DOMAIN switch I've read about, is that correct? Are there any other switches needed for the reinstall?
    How will this work with the Mac and mobile clients? There's obviously no command line options to specify for the installations here, will they just know to kick over to my IdP for authentication once they see an email address that falls under an org with SSO enabled? If so, why does the Windows client need to be completely reinstalled and not just know to find the IdP from the Cloud Connect service like Meeting Center does with the Productivity Tools?
    We're just doing this for our Connect Web IM accounts, not attempting any sort of SSO with the phone accounts/UC integration yet.
    Any ideas on getting the Meeting Center integration into Jabber working again?

    I'd suggest posting your question over on the Jabber Pilot forum, as this forum is specific to Jabber Guest questions:

  • Easy JNDI + Connection Pool Question

    This is an easy question:
    Once I get the object represented by my connection pool from the
    Weblogic JNDI tree, how do I get a connection from the returned object
    of type weblogic.common.internal.ResourceAllocator?
    I keep getting ClassCastExceptions. I have tried
    ConnectionPoolDataSource, Connection, and DataSource.
    String conPool = "weblogic.jdbc.connectionPool.demoPool";
    try {
    Object obj = ctx.lookup(conPool);
    msg(DEBUG,"FROM LOOKUP" + obj.getClass().getName());
    //DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup(conPool);
    //con = ds.getConnection();
    } catch (NameNotFoundException e) {
    // binding does not exist
    msg(ERROR,"BINDING DOES NOT EXIST",e);
    } catch (NamingException e) {
    // a failure occurred
    msg(ERROR,"NAMING FAILURE OCCURED",e);
    } catch (Exception e) {
    msg(ERROR,"SOME RANDOM ERROR",e);
    Thanks,

    DataSource ds = (DataSource)ctx.lookup(conPool);I think, you must use narrow operation:
    Object reference = ctx.lookup(conPool);
    DataSource ds =
    (DataSource) PortableRemoteObject.narrow (ds,DataSource.class);
    I haven't got time to check it, but I hope that works.

  • How can I use a scanner connected to my old PC?

    Hi!
    Aside from my iMac, I have a PC to which a printer is attached. I used system preferences to connect to that printer (it worked just fine), and now when I click "print" on the mac, the printer starst printing (as long as the PC is on).
    Now, I would like to do the same thing with a scanner, also connected to the PC. How do I do it? (I confess I forgot exactly what I did to connect the printer, as this would probably help.... hehehe.. but I remember typing the name of the PC workgroup and it's IP address somewhere.)
    The scanner is an HP 2400 and USB.
    Thanks a lot for the help!

    How do I do it?
    You would have to contact the manufacturer of the scanner to see if their software allows for sharing the scanner, as Mac OS X has no built in support for that.

  • Remote Desktop Connection Expert Question...

    I am looking for someone with a lot of experience with Windows Remote Desktop Connection to answer a basic question or two...
    I have a WireShark capture (only one side unfortunately) which shows 880 MBytes sent from the client running the Remote Desktop Connection, to the host; but I have no WireShark capture of the packet volume coming from the host to the client IP address. The
    capture is for a period spanning 32 hours. I am being asked to try and determine (guestimate) the amount of data that might have been sent from the host to the client... I know this is a real out there question; which is why I'm looking for someone with
    real Remote Desktop Connection experience.
     Given that if the volume of traffic from the client to the host is 880MBytes over 32 hours; is there any way at all of guessing how much might have been sent from the host to the client?
    Please be kind, this is important and I am presenting all of the information I have.
    Thank you!

    Hi,
    Agreed with T.Murr here. Only based on the networks traces from one way connection, is hard to determine what happens on the other side.

  • 10.6.8 Snow Leopard loses HP multi-function scanner connection when users are switched.

    I've got 10.6.8 (Snow Leopard) installed on an iMac with a USB attached HP multi-function printer/scanner/fax.
    I've removed all HP software and got the latest HP drivers from Software Update.
    The software was able to scan appropriately using Preview and Image Capture until my wife signed onto the computer using her id.
    (She switched users and logged into her account on the same iMac.)
    Upon switching back to my user id, there was 'No scanner detected.'  I removed and re-added the printer.  No luck.
    (In fact, upon re-adding the printer, the connection just showed 'USB' instead of 'USB multi-function', and doesn't find a scanner.)
    Rebooting solves the problem (until the next time we switch users).
    Anybody have any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Jimmy

    Is it possible to run the Macgames Realmyst disc on Snow Leopard10.6.8 at 64bit?
    I believe RealMyst is a "pure" is only PowerPC.  So it doesn't matter whether you boot in 32 or 64 bit but it does matter whether you installed Rosetta on your system (optional when you installed your system) to handle the ppc code.  Even with Rosetta there's no guarantees that app will run in 10.6.8.
    Also RealMyst is for OSX.  SheepShaver is for emulating Clasic OS9 so forget about that.
