Scanner crashes. CanoScan 9000F, 13" rMBP, OS 10.8.4

Hi –
The hardware/software:
13" Retina MacBook Pro running OS 10.8.4
CanoScan 9000F scanner, using MP Navigator 3.1
The problem:
MP Navigator 3.1 crashes whenever I try to scan film - specifically in the Grayscale color mode. Whenever I try to scan film in the Color mode, the software acts completely normal. MP used to work flawlessly, but then randomly the problem arose.
Can anyone help?
Thanks.

On day 3 of mountain lion taming I have got to finding out what still works and what doesn't
My Canon lide 500f works fine with VueScan 9 x32 (9.0.70) - probably actually UB - activated using the TWAIN option in GraphicConverter and after a bit of plugging/unplugging, but nothing new there. That is for the 35mm negative accessory. For Flatbed, the Image Capture option is simpler. No need for non-existant 64bit driver or workarounds.
I very rarely use CS4,(only if layers are absolutely essential), but that works too; no idea what the Java 6 thing is about, just install it. Latest FocusMagic now works in GraphicConverter too in about a 1/10th of the time it did in CS 32bit

  • CanoScan 9000F scanner won't work on my MacBook Pro even though it should be compatible with the Mac 10.7.2 OS.

My new CanoScan 900F scanner won't work on my MacBook Pro even though I've followed all instructions to make it compatible with the 10.7.2 OS. The USB connection isn't recognised. What else con I do?

I have a similar problem with a new CanoScan 9000F which I tried to use without any success on my desktop computer (Mac Pro 5,1) and laptop (Macbook Pro 1,2) both running OS 10.6. Problem is identical on both, viz:
        •    Scanning process appears to start, a message comes on the screen: Scanning do not open document cover followed by Scanning...
        •    This is then replaced by the message: Cannot communicate with scanner. Cable may be disconnected or scanner may be turned off. Check status. Scanner driver will be closed. 2.155.33
I've spent several hours on the phone with Canon support but having uninstalled/installed/reinstalled/updated/turned on/turned off/unplugged/plugged/restarted innumerable times, the problem is exactly the same. The scanner icon shows up in the Printer & Fax System Prefs (though without the little status lights) and shows as being connected in the USB tree. I think it's a problem with the scanner, Canon bods are suggesting the Macs are at fault and suggest I try connecting to a wintel (hawk, spit) and it's 100km to the nearest Canon service centre.
Any suggestions as to what might be the problem/s and what I might be able to do to fix it/them?
    Thanks.
By the way, bought the Canon to replace a HP Scanjet 8300 which I've used for 6 years almost without problems. Any that I have had have been fixed merely by turning the scanner off then on after a 10 second rest.

You downloaded the twain plugin referenced here and put it in the 32 bit version photoshop cs6?
(twain from photoshop doesn't work on the 64 bit version of photoshop cs6)

  • No working buttons on Canoscan 9000F Mark 2

    Greetings CANON forum,
This topic is about the CANOSCAN 9000F Mark2 scanner. I hope the printer category of the forum can be used for that topic.
This scanner is great, but I have a small problem: "the buttons located on the scanner are not working properly".
    These are more details:
    - All settings have been defined in CANON SCANNER utilities in order to attribute an action to each button
    - Each time I press a button, Microsoft Pulisher launches and no other action is undertaken.
PC is Windows 7 family edition X64, all drivers (including the canon driver) up-to-date.
After Christmas morning analysis, I discovered some interesting things:
    - Drivers we download from CANON are declared from 1/10/2013 but if we look closer, drivers are from 10/09/2012 V 20.0.0.5. I hope this is normal, I assume that this is the case.
    - If I open the Windows printer properties, i definitely see (in properties of the SCANNER) that the action attributed to each button is: "Launch Microsoft Publisher", with no possibility to change to something else.
    So my question is:
    - It sounds that the actions attributed to buttons have no effect using the CANON tools. Is it a known problem? Is there a workaround so far?
    Thank you so much!

Please visit the following website, click "Software," and download the "My Image Garden" software.  This should resolve the issue you are having!

  • CanoScan 9000F

I would like to write some software to automate certain tasks with the CanoScan 9000F.
Is there any way to have any API or scripting access to ScanGear?
Failing that, is there any information on TWAIN for this particular scanner so I can program access to the various functions?
For example, I might want it to preview the image, then automatically detect the relevant region and correct for rotation and do a final scan with specific settings based on what type of image I think it is. (And I could, for example, be using images with bar-codes that specify the type of image).

    Hello isaacl.
Unfortunately, we can only advise that scanner is used with the TWAIN driver that is included with the unit.
The Scangear interface that can be accessed for the scanner will allow you to preview images and select your desired portion before making a final scan.  However, there is no such option to automatically select a specific region of an image for adjustment.  This would have to be done manually.

  • Problem with interface between Photoshop and CanoScan 9000f, mark II

I have just upgraded my Mac to OS X 10.9.1, Photoshop to CC, and purchased the CanoScan 9000F, mark II.  I had the CanoScan 8600F previously which came 8+ years ago with Elements 4 but now all this is obsolete with the current software and OS.  In Photoshop Elements 4 and the old scanner, I could go to the File menu, select "Import" and find the scanner listed, going then directly to the Canon ScanGear interface to use to scan images.  This is not currently happening with the new software and scanner.  Under the File menu now I now only see "Images from device..." which takes me to another much less useful interface with the scanner.  How can I get Photoshop to again connect directly to the ScanGear interface?

How can I get Photoshop to again connect directly to the ScanGear interface?
    AFAIK, you cannot.
The direct connection required the less-than-reliable TWAIN plugin to access the manufacturer's scanner driver which was usually 32 bit only. Photoshop CC is going 64 bit only (it's there already on Macs) so Adobe has removed TWAIN from CC entirely.

    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/1245120
Additionally, when in use, TWAIN requires exclusive access to Photoshop so you cannot do anything else while scanning is occurring.
Adobe recommends scanning outside Photoshop (using a 3rd party utility such as Vuescan http://www.hamrick.com/). You can then scan (with Vuescan) and use Photoshop simultaneously. Then import the scanned image into PS CC.

  • Driver Problems with CanoScan 9000F and Mountain Lion?

I have recently taken delivery of a MacBookPro with Mountain Lion. I used Migration Assistant from an older MacBook and all seems to have gone well except for my CanoScan 9000F. This refused to load the MP Navigation software, even though I downloaded the latest drivers. I am a heavy user of the Scanner as I move towards a Paperless Office .
Does anyone have experience of this combination of Scanner and Lap Top? Thank you.

  • Canoscan 9000F One-Touch Buttons: What 'Registered Software Application' Do I Need?

I have a Canoscan 9000F Mark II.  I'm trying to get the scanner buttons to work with it -- particularly the COPY button.  I've installed all available Canon software for Windows 7 (x64) for this scanner.  When I hit the COPY button, I get this dialog box:
So I went into the Scanner Properties for the scanner and found this Events tab.  But for every scanner button including COPY, it says "No application is registered for this event."  It won't let me select anything other than Take No Action.  The other choices are grayed out:
If I go to the original Canoscan 9000F (NOT the Mark II version) drivers and software page, I see this software called MP Navigator EX.  I installed that just for the heck of it, since none of the Mark II apps seemed to want to register as a "registered app" for this function.
When I did that, it actually put that as a choice (the only choice) by Start This Program:
I thought that would do the trick, but then when I hit the COPY button, I get this dialog box:
So I figure that MP Navigator EX is missing from the Mark II download page for a reason -- it's for the original 9000F and is not compatible with the Mark II.
    OK...so...what IS compatible?
What app do I need to "register" for this buttons in order for them to work?
I'm completely stumped.  Someone please help; I'd greatly appreciate it.
    -Thanks

So, I went through Canon Support. The rep not only had no idea how to fix the problem -- he first tried to deny that the problem existed at all, using phrases such as, "it SHOULDN'T need any other app in order to work," "you SHOULDN'T be getting that message from the Canon software," "it SHOULD work as long as you have the Canon Toolkit installed." Uh huh. Except that I obviously do, I am, and it doesn't.
He was also completely unaware that there are TONS of forum messages and other posts on the Internet about the same or similar problem. Tons of them. A Google search came up with 193,000 results. The rep said that this is the first time he'd heard of anything like this. Which means he's either lying or blatantly ignorant.
After about 45 minutes of repeating myself, and then finally pointing him to the pretty screenshots on this thread here (which he first, when I offered to give him the link, quickly dismissed as, "that won't be necessary,"), he finally decided that the problem was going to have to be escalated to the engineers.
That was a week ago. Most likely my request just went into the round file and was quickly forgotten. I'll be VERY surprised if I hear back again on it. Suspect I'll have to call again, get another rep, and go through the same stupid routine all over again.
Nice job, Canon. How about checking your forums once in a while? Do a Google search on this problem, for crying out loud. It's NOT an isolated case, by any means. It NEEDS to be fixed, and PRONTO!
    Ridiculous.

  • CanoScan 9000F Mark II: HP or Dell what graphics card etc are needed to use the 9000F?

My computer is not up to snuff to handle the 9000F scanner.  I am shopping for an HP or Dell unit.  What should I look for in the details to be able to select one that is adequate or better.  Sometimes a graphics card is indicated and I don't know which can do what though I know the one I have can't do it.  What about processors an i5 or i7 intel can do it  I think?. What hard drive capacity is required or recommended?  I am not a techie but would like to be able to purchase something that will get the job done.  I shall be scanning many slides, negs and photos. Thanks

    Hi EddS,
The system that the CanoScan 9000F Mark II will be installed on will need to meet the following minimum requirements:

  • Import in PSE 13 using CanoScan 9000F under Windows 7 64 Bit

I have installed the new PSE 13 on my Windows 7 64 Bit PC. I use a scanner CanoScan 9000F, the most actual driver is installed (ScanGear).
But the scanner doesn't appear in the list when selecting "Import" in PSE.
My last (also still installed) PSE Version was 10. Here the CanoScan 9000F appears in the selection. For this Version I copied Twain_32.8BA from directory Adobe\Photoshop Elements 10\Optional Plug-Ins\Import-Export into Adobe\PhotoShop Elements 10\Plug-Ins\Import-Export directory.
But in PSE 13, no such file exists. Copying the Version from PSE 10 does not work.
Is it right, that Twain Drivers are no longer supported?
    Thanks for any help

  • Images scanned on Canoscan 9000f are not recognised by any applications

I have had a Canoscan 9000f for just over a month, and have had no problems previously scanning pictures to my MacBook Pro. Since upgrading to Yosemite however, none of the applications on my computer (including iphoto, preview, or Canon software) will recognise newly scanned pictures. I have tried updating the scanner's hardware but with no luck.
The pictures have data, and have the suffix .jpg, but Yosemite keeps saying they are in an unrecognised format. Canon has so far been unable to help - Can anyone else?

Update: My Canon All-in-one, Pixma 6350, also produces jpeg-scans that Yosemite doesn't accept.
At least Photoshop gives a hint: SOFn, DQT or DHT-JPG Markers are missing before a JPG-SOS Marker, whatever this means.

  • Can I scan 110 film negatives on the canoscan 9000f?

I am contemplating buying the canoscan 9000f, but I will need to be able to scan 110mm film format. Can I do this on the canoscan 9000f? I have seen an adapter for that film size on ebay and amazon (oddly enough, cannot find it on Canon), but the price is prohibitive. Can I scan negatives without any holder - in other words, just lay the film directly on the glass platen and scan the negatives in that way?

I found a useful article online called:  "How to Scan Odd (Non-Standard) Size Film Negatives on a CanoScan 8800F Scanner -Made Easy".
      Here's the URL:  http://askjoanne.hubpages.com/hub/How-to-Scan-Odd-Non-Standard-Sized-Negative-on-a-CanoScan-8800F
I have a Canoscan 9000f, and I guess it is similar to the 8800f.
Under the scanner lid, remove the white and black background panel.  Center the 110 negative on the glass and close the lid.
When you get into the Canon MP Navigator software, you want to Scan and Import -- Film.  Click on the little box that says "Use the scanner driver."  Then click on "Open Scanner Driver."  That sends you to the ScanGear Advanced Mode settings.
The first time I did this, I could not understand why many choices were grayed out.
You have to click on PREVIEW    !!
When I did this, I got an error message:  "The film could not be detected.  Please check if the Select Source is correct, or confirm if the film is set correctly and execute preview again.  Otherwise, please switch off the thumbnails view mode."
That last part was the key  -- the thumbnails switch is in the upper left corner of the screen.  There's a little Slide icon and a little Negative icon.  Click on this "switch", and when the Negative icon shows up in color, you are set to go.
Now, when you click on PREVIEW, your 110 negative should appear.  Now just "crop" the 110 negative:  move the cursor over one corner of the negative, hold down the left mouse button, move to the diagonally opposite corner, release the mouse button.
Delete the black box (if there is one)  in the upper left of the scan area.
Now click on SCAN.  When it finishes scanning, you can choose to "Retouch and save the image (Close ScanGear dialog)".  When you close ScanGear, you will wind up back in the MP Navigator.
In the Scan Complete box, click on exit.
Then SAVE your scan under a new name (not IMG).
Then you can Open the image in a good photo-editing software.  I use PhotoShop Elements.  There you will need to crop each individual photo on the 110 strip, and save each photo under a different name.
I think you can use the same technique on other sized negatives.
A good article about negative sizes is: "About Film Formats - Slides, Negatives, & Transparencies"  at www.pearsonimaging.com .

I have been using OS X 10.8 in the past and happily got my Canon 9000f scanner to work. I have upgraded to OS X 10.9 and now I can only get  an error. When I open MP Navigator EX 3.1 it throws up a panel with this message.

Try using Image Capture in you Application folder as see > Mac Basics: Using a scanner
Noting that in Mavericks, you may need the ICA Driver Ver 3.1.0 from > Canon Support 9000f DriversAndSoftware to use the scanner with Image Capture.

  • CanoScan 9000F not seen by PSE 10 but is by PSE 8

PSE 8 has been installed on my I-Mac 27 OS 10.6.8 and working fine.
I upgraded to PSE 10.  Both 8 and 10 are on the computer.
I intalled the CanoScan 9000F. It shows up under System / Print/Fax
Acrobat pro sees it with "create pdf from scanner".
PSE 8 sees it with Import
PSE 10 doesn't see the scanner under Import.
    Suggestions?

In PSE 9 and 10 you must install the Adobe TWAIN driver to scan.  Go to Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support Files>Optional Plug-Ins>ImportModules, and move TWAIN.plugin from there into Applications>Adobe Photoshop Elements 10>Support Files>Plug-Ins>Import Modules.
