Scanner Crop

I have a photosmart 6525.  I would like to scan pictures and have them auto crop to the size of the image.  My previous Lexmark did this automatically.  I have not been able to find any way to make this happen with my new all-in-one printer.  Can someone tell me how to do this?  And yes I am loading the image in the front right corner per the instructions.  The glass has been cleaned and there are no marks on the back panel that would be "picked up" in a scan.  Regardless of the image size I always get a 8.5 X 11 scanned image that I then have to crop with secondary software.

Hi,
The HP Scan software does not support auto cropping but only selecting a specfic paper size when scanning.
You may check for a 3rd party scanning software which support a such..
Say thanks by clicking the Kudos thumb up in the post.

  • PSE 11 editor has stopped importing from scanner, no longer permits drag and drop, will not permit cropping, and other bizarre issues

    Windows 8.1, PSE 11
I am having a number of issues including loss of import functionality from scanner, I can't drag and drop photos into the editor any more as well, or at least not after the first one. The crop function stops working after the first couple of photos.  Then some freezing.  A little added crashing.  A plethora of other bizarre issues as well.  This just stated happening a couple of days ago.
    What I have tried:
    Uninstall/Install.
Deleted preferences both before opening Editor (crontrol-alt-delete) and after opening it.
    Kindly advise.  Thanks!

OK! Check it, like I said in previous posts I seemed to have narrowed it down to specific mp3s not converting and playing in their native sample rate which if paired with another sample would give you the "audio midi sync" error and basically screw up your clock! It appears mp3 files converting to mp3 using iTunes would not convert to the correct sample rate if set to something other than 44 in logic and cause this. A tad peculiar Apple iTunes won't work with Apple Logic. I was able to confirm this on two mac's via my friend in Florida. He's running Tiger and tried the same experiment and Booya! Mickey Mouse! It appears this insane week long adventure has came to an end (...god willing) with a super specific unlucky shot in the dark on my part finally revealed to be an perfectly normal function of Logic (obviously one i'm not fond of..) As far as the errors / crashes / system overloads / kernal panics I think I can sort those out to the mackie onyx satellite not being a good choice and trying to add and remove firewire devices in the middle of the sample rate mayhem. Wow! all I can say is, I'm glad it's over
Wish me a lot of luck in the future.. I'm sure i'll need it!

  • PSE10- Possible to multi-crop images from scanner?

I'm taking the task of digitizing hundreds of old photos.  Currently, using my flatbed scanner, I scan 4 pics at a time.  Then I use PSE10 Editor's tool of "Divide Scanned Photo" to split the pictures into 4 different files.  However, sometimes this tools doesn't recognize all 4 pics correctly and I have to crop manually.  This can be tedious to crop, save, open the old file again, crop, save....and do this 4 times.  Is there a way to select multiple crop images from a file and export each to a new file?
Any advice is appreciated on my tedious task.

Thanks Barbara.  I have a really old flatbed HP scanner and am using regular Windows fax & scan to capture the images.  It's my understanding that newer HP scanners come with this type of software.  Didn't really want to invest in a new scanner.  I've tried a few trials of scanning software, but found PSE10 actually does a better job than them in it's dividing scanner pics.  I'll just deal with the ones that it can't handle manually.  Maybe we'll see a feature where we can crop and export multiple parts of a file in a future release.

  • Will Photoshop Elements 8 auto-crop multiple pictures on a scanner???

I have over 90 years worth of pictures I have to scan. 1 at a time is... well... on option I don't want to use. I am new to PS. Will the program allow me to put multiple pics on my flatbed scanner, have them automaticly split up, then put in a folder??? Thank you for any help you have to offer...

It works best when PSE can easily see the edges of each photo, so it often helps to place them slightly crooked on the scanner bed. Just be sure that PSE can draw a straight line between any two photos.

  • Scan in mutiple photos in one file, can I crop multiple photos...

    at same time?
I don't know how to scan multiple photos as distinct file. I scan 5-6 pics it comes out at one file that I import into iPhoto. While it's very easy to crop each photo out of the file, I have to import the file as many times as there are photos
    to crop.
I hope I've been clear. Is there a smarter way to work. I don't see a way to scan
the 5-6 pics as different files in my scanner software.
    Thanks

    Joshua:
Vuescan is a 3rd party scanning application which can do batch scanning but is a little more difficult to set up. It works with most scanners.
If you have a Canon scanner you can scan in multiple photos at one time and have the scanner software crop, not as close as I'd like, each one individually and present to you in the editor of your choice or the one that comes with it.
    Do you Twango?
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've written an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.

  • Is there a way to adjust crop borders on Crop and Straighten?

I'm trying to use Photoshop CS3 to crop and straighten images of postage stamps.  E.g., place a bunch of stamps on the scanner bed and scan them as one image.  Then use Automate/Crop and Straighten Photos to create separate workspaces each with a single stamp image, cropped and rotated appropriately.  This almost works; the problem is it often crops the stamps too closely, cutting off the perforations.  The rotation is not always perfect either.  For example, for the above image I get:
These two are pretty good except the perforation tips are trimmed off.
    This one is a disaster
So I'm thinking if there were some way to specify how tightly the images are cropped, it might help solve the problem.  Any other suggestions?

    We now have a solution.

  • How do I fix problem with linked and cropped image frames not printing properly when spanning pages?

We are using InDesign (ID) to develop and print church bulletins which contain a combination of text frames and graphics. One of the graphic types we use are TIF files which are high-resolution scans of hymns.
A hymn usually has a combination of the musical score, plus the lyrics - with many verses., so the modular structure is 'staff' composed of a treble clef, followed by verses, followed by a base clef.
If the example above had 6 verses instead of one, we would crop the image by adjusting the frame, so that the treble clef and the desired verses showed through the frame.
We would then copy and link the frame - piggy back - adjusting the next content window etc....so we build a custom version of the music as a series of linked frames - each with the same base image, but a different frame position.
So this works fine, when we do this on a single page, but when we then add a 'last staff' at the top of the following page, we encounter print problems with some output devices.
Imagine a two-page spread, with a full page of music on the left, and the last staff (treble clef, verses, base clef) unit as a separately linked frame at the top of the right page of the spread.
It displays correctly, and will print individually as pages correctly, but when we print it as a booklet, the last frame drops out and we have blank space.
I can print the document to PDF and it works fine, but if I print it to a copier or laser printer I get drop out.
    It is inconsistent.
Previews are always okay. Individual page prints are okay, but when you print the entire document, the last frame in this kind of linked series gets blanked.
If we create and name the image differently, and call it in as a new image - (not linked to the previous), but it is still a large image that is cropped to a small piece, then it doesn't print.
If we save the last frame as a different image type (take the TIFF file into photoshop, crop it and save it as a jpg - so it is only the 'snippet') and then import it, it works fine.
So my question to you InDesigners....is there some setting or tip or trick I need to know to be able to link a series of frames with the same base image, but different crops and make it span across two pages properly.
Or do we need to play this game of crop and trim the image so that it doesn't drop out?
Any thoughts, advice, direction would be gratefully received!

I did a lot of such hymn things in the past, but I was alway working on the scans in Photoshop, like adjusting, retouching spots and cropping. And I was always seperating those images to be more flexible so I never run into such a problem.
I am always scanning in a higher quality level than I would need, I scan it in color, this allows me to eliminate paper color easily, even if I need 1-bit images at the end, I do it in color, so I can also turn the image.
I did once run into a similar problem with a scan I have got from a copier-scanner machine (it was not a song). But saving as PSD resolved my problem.
So I would suggest: Open your files in Photoshop, resave them as PSD files and use those instead. If you use 1-bit images (which is fine for this type of images) you should use a resolution equal to the printer's resolution.

  • How to automatically crop images in Image Capture for import into iPhoto?

On my PowerBook G4 / Mac OS X 10.4.2, I'm using the Image Capture 3.0.3 application to capture images coming from scanning photographs with a CanoScan 8400F.
Can I get the Image Capture application to automatically set the crop frame on the overview? Other applications do that, but with Image Capture it seems that after I do the Overview (preview), I have to manually set the crop frame by clicking and dragging, before I can click the Scan button to do the scan?
P.S. It seems that iPhoto does not handle scanning, and you do have to use a different application to scan photos before importing them into iPhoto.
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

If you hide the details pane Image Capture will scan immediately to a specified folder. Other way is to open printers and faxing from the system preferences , select the scanning tab of your printer and click Open scanner. It will start scanning immediately without opening Image Capture. To set other software as default you should open Image Capture, select your printer/scanner and click the scanner buttons. It will then let you chose which program should be launched when you scan a document.

I have an older HP PhotoSmart Print 7280 that can scan photos.  On the PC HP had software that would allow you to scan through the document feeder and batch correct/crop the photos before creating files.  This printer/scanner doesn't have HP software for Lion.  I am looking for a Scanner or Software solution that will allow me to scan through the feeder and to crop in batches.  I have used Image Capture on the Mac to scan.  It work great to crop and edit photos if you put them them on the flatbed.  You can load 3 photos and it will allow you to crop them and to make them individual files.  However if you use the "feeder" setting it treats what you are scanning as a document and you don't have the ability to edit/crop before accepting the files.  So what you get are images that have a lot of white space around them.
I am looking for a solution that would allow me to do this in a quicker manner than 3 photos at a time on the flatbed.  I Don't rule out buying a new all in one printer to do this.  I also looked into other scanning software like VueScan, but it doesn't appear to have a batch edit/crop mode after running through the feeder.
Any advice on how to attack this would be great.
    Thanks

That should be easy to fix with something like SintraWorks PDF Nomand or PDF Clerk Pro.

  • Some photostream images getting cropped on ipad, but not mac?

Not sure where to post this since it involves photostream behavior on Mac vs iPad?  So my apologies if this is misplaced.
Recently some images that were imported into iPhoto on my Mac, and are automatically sent to Photostream, become cropped in photostream, or at least they appear to be cropped on both an iPad and on AppleTV 2nd gen, but look fine when viewing photostream on the Mac.  What's weird is the pic is cropped on the iPad, but it is the same size (pixels) as is indicated on the Mac of the original (1,488 x 1,011).  By "cropped" I mean that only a portion of the photo is visible (just wanted to clear that up since the pixel count seems to be the same, so not the conventional form of cropping).  Several pics behave this way, and they all seem to be ones that started life as scanned images of old prints, although not ALL of the scanned pics behave this way... only a few.
The following description was copied from here:  http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4486http://
What resolution are My Photo Stream photos?
On your Mac or PC, your photos are downloaded and stored in full resolution. On your iPhone, iPad, iPod touch, and Apple TV, your Photo Stream photos are delivered in a device-optimized resolution that speeds downloads and saves storage space. While actual dimensions will vary, an optimized version of a photo taken by a standard point-and-shoot camera will have a 2048 x 1536 pixel resolution when pushed to your devices. Panoramic photos can be up to 50 pixels wide.
Seems like it may be some bug with the 'optimization' process for the iPad / AppleTV?  Has anyone seen this before?
Macbook Pro mid 2009, OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2
    iPad 3
    AppleTV 2nd gen.

No need to do a screen capture.  The cropped image in photostream on the iPad can be exported to the mac.  I ran some samples tonight. Pardon the content of the pic - it is a greeting card... no one i know.
    Scanned B&W and Color, in 3 resolutions:  150, 300, 600 dpi.
I now see that the limits in attaching pics here is pretty restrictive, so i've put them into a smugmug album:
    http://daveyeager.smugmug.com/Other/Apple-photostream-bug/27709278_6Lrgjwhttp://
note that the 150 and to a lesser extent, 300 dpi B&W scans are cropped (filenames are at the bottom of the image in the center), but all color scans look correct.
    The process was...
scan on a Canon MX892 printer/scanner using Mac Image Capture in Mountain Lion,
import the files into iPhoto on the Mac,
    put into photostream from iPhoto,
go to the iPad and export them from iPhoto / photostream as files to iTunes,
attach iPad to Mac to transfer the files to the Mac,
upload to Smugmug.  (sounds worse than it is)

  • 3050A Scanner won't talk to my Mac OSX 10.6.8

I originally had the issue where the scanner was simply scanning a portion of the page (mentioned and solved in another thread here). However, my problem has now grown....
I was temporarily able to the scan images correctly by going through the Applications folders and clicking on the Scan 3 icon and directing the scan from this. However, now even this won't work and the scanner doesn't communicate at all with my Mac OSX 10.6.8 - I can't even get it to scan from the control panel on the product. The printer works fine - however I haven't acutally checked the printer again since doing the following:
I have uninstalled the software and reinstalled. I have checked for updates and it is indicating that I have updated software, yet when I click on HP Utility, I get the following error msg:
Some components installed on your computer were developed for another version of HP Utility. These components will not be loaded and some functionality related to your device will not be accessible. Please click HP Support item on the toolbar to visit HP Online Support site and download the latest versions of HP software.
I did this but I keep getting the msg that my software is up to date. So what now?
I have noticed that there are 2 scan icons in the Applications folder and one of them doesn't register the product at all when clicked. The Scan 3 icon used to work, but now just perpetually tries to open a connection with the printer and never can, when I try to cancel it it then goes into perpetual canceling mode and the only way I can shut it down is to Force Quit.
Any suggestions on how to remedy this before I throw my new HP 3050A off of the balcony

  • Scanning with Scanner interface

I have a user who was recently upgraded from Acrobat 7.0 Standard to 9 Standard.
With the previous version of Adobe Standard, she was able to scan files to pdf using the Epson scanner interface. (She has a Epson 2480 Photo Scanner attached to her laptop.)
Now, with Acrobat 9, when she attempts to scan in Acrobat, she goes directly into the scanning process and is not given the chance to "Preview" the image, so that she can crop it as necessary.
I'm noticing something about "Native" mode, but I'm unable to choose the other mode, "Memory", due to the fact it's greyed out. I'm ASSUMING that Native mode has something to do with NOT bringing up the scanner interface.
Is my assumption correct? Regardless, how do I fix it so that she can crop the image before scanning it in?
Thanks in advance for any information.
    Rich

I have the same problem with Acrobat X Pro.    Anyone have any somutions for this?

  • Cropping a scanned slide automatically

Does Photoshop have the facility to crop a scanned slide automatically? When I scan, I make the scan selection in the scanner a fair bit larger than the slide to accommodate all slides. i.e. if I'm scanning a number of slides they can end up in slightly different positions in the scanner. So as not to have to adjust the scan selection each time, I make it larger than required. Then I have to remove the black that surrounds the slide in PS.
I can do it manually a number of ways. The easiest appears to be to set up a template selection and move it around for each slide. But that takes time. So I'm hoping PS, or other software, can analyse an image of a slide and, knowing that there are four straight sides involved in a slide, accurately crop to the sides. Even better if it could crop to the rounded corners of older slide mounts.
One difficulty will be when the slide itself has dense black on the edges that may be confused with the black of the slide surround. That's why I mentioned straight edges. The software I'm hoping for would know that four straight edges are expected and somehow it would dismiss any dense blacks close to the edge of the slide.

Have you tried File > Automate > Crop and Straighten Photos?

  • How can I automatically crop a photo based on its content (a black border)?

    I scanned hundred of negatives.
The scanner produced .jpg files.  Most of the scanned images show the negatives holder to one side as a black border.  The black border is thicker or thinner depending on the photo.
    Please see pictures attached.
Is there a way to automate the detection of such a border and remove it by cropping the photo?  Ideally I would like the processing to only remove the thickness that is required to keep the photo unaltered as much as possible.
I have Photoshop 12 and I know about Actions.  I just don't know how to tell the engine to only crop if it is required, and by how much.
This could save me days of manual work.  Thankyou.
    Environment Information:
    ·  I am running Photoshop 12.1 *64 bit
    ·  Windows 7 Professional 64 bit
    ·  Amount of installed RAM: 6GB
    ·       Scanner:  Canon CanoScan 8800F
    ·  Amount of free disk space:
                C:\ - OS and Software disk - Total size:139GB showing 20GB free
                G:\ - Data disk - Total size:1.81 TB showing 437GB free
    ·  Make/Model of Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Thank you miss marple for your Image>Canvas Size... suggestion.  I used it to implement a semi automated process.
I programmed a couple of actions:
    - one to trim all sides by 7 pixels
    - one to trim the top side by 7 pixles
Then I assigned a shortcut key to each action.
Since I have to open each photo individually anyway to remove larger scratches (see my other post), it is easy to hit a couple of keyboard keys to trigger the relevant 'border removal' action.
The main thing is that in 95% of cases I don't have to use the mouse to fix the borders, but I use keyboard keys only.  It is a real time saver.

  • Any product like the CanonScan LiDe 600F scanner (doesn't work with Windows8)

I had a CanonScan LiDE 600F that allowed me to enter text right on the scanned picture.  Allowed me to crop, correct red eye, etc.  As I am copying lots of older pictures to do a slide show I would like to continue to show names on the picture so grand children and great grand children will know whom they are looking at.  I can't seem to find a Canon scanner that allows this.
Any help would be appreciated - if no Canon's does anyone know of any others?  I no longer have the 600F as I could not get any drivers or whateve I needed to work with Windows 8 (which I hate).  Doesn't seem to be a scanner forum?

Is this not a W8 driver?
